- The Siberian Husky is a medium size working dog breed that originated in north-eastern Siberia, Russia.The breed belongs to the Spitz genetic family.It is recognizable by its thickly furred double coat, erect triangular ears, and distinctive markings.
The Alaskan Malamute is a large breed of domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris) originally bred for hauling heavy freight because of their strength and endurance, and later a sled dog. They are similar to other arctic breeds, such as the Greenland dog, Canadian Eskimo Dog, the Siberian Husky, and the Samoyed.
Working dog, sleigh dog and racing dog.
Character: Lively and active but as an adult behaves in a reserved way.
Particularity: During the winter of 1925, Leonhard Seppala, a Norwegian driver and his huskies brought diptheria serum to Nome in Alaska in a heroic and successful drive to prevent an epidemic. -

Agreed, Extra big fluffy butts. Take a look at our walks and my Malamute is a good looking man with that big fluffy butt. My husky is just mischievous and very independent but all forgiven with her happy goofy grin.
The Jämshund (Swedish Elkhound) is a sharp-looking canine as well. Owned one. Regret getting rid of her, she was a great dog. I was just young, irresponsible and stupid.

I have a Siberian Husky named Togo and I think he is the best looking, his right eye is black and his left eye is blue although I have to say he looks a bit scary.
I have one of each both are great companions no faults they are perfect!

These dogs presented in the video are not huskies or malamute or Eskimo dogs or even f-1 hybrids. And yes, the type really does make a difference as to how they are run, managed and even kept alive.
These short haired dogs don't survive -30° temperature even if they instinctively knew how to burrow in the snow to save themselves.
These German Shepard and Akita crosses also don't tend to last long as they don't know instinctively how to follow the pack hierarchy so they get torn to bits.
All that said, huskies and associated breeds are the best dogs ever.
It really is up to the owner to be worthy of them.
People cross them for speed nowadays don't they I think the call them Sun dogs?. The older pure bred breeds and are slower but stronger.. Now they are used for racing so they crossed them for speed.
Not true. Those presented are in fact a husky and malamute. Perhaps you have never been around either.

That was Togo folks, Not no damn Balto. Balto was Not a relay dog! In 2011 Time Magazine released the true identity of the doh and revealed that Togo was the true hero. Not knowing what had just transpired, the people who greeted the serum actually assumed Balto did all the hard work and everyone since 1925 just ran with it! Togo is the true hero 🦸♂️

All the dogs on all the teams were heroes. It takes a team. Number one rule in mushing is your only as good as your worst dog.
I work in sled dog racing. It really needs to be illegal. Its just as hard to be a sled dog today as it was back then thanks to these races.
Mushing and dog sleds are great. But making it a race leads to a TON of messed up stuff. You literally wouldn't even believe me. Even just accidents. Its not like these people are evil. But theres alot of holes in what it takes to build a winning team.
Look at the HUGE number of sled dog rescues. There aren't even that many mushers in the world. Everyone breeding to maintain a winning team leads to too many dogs. Plain and simple.
Back in the day people would just shoot em' But people are getting less willing to do that so you just have all these dogs sitting around.
People do still shoot them though. "the whistler massacre" was just ten years ago. That sorta thing happens on a small scale all the time.

haha thats really scary. I went to film school. And now I work in sled dog racing.
I feel like the medium I love and respect so much is contributing to normalizing pretty extreme animal cruelty. I LOVE disney. But gosh dang it, they need to back off with the sled dog stuff.
Mushing is GREAT. Theses dogs are super tough and love to run. They can do it.
But Dog racing is Dog racing. We need to make these races illegal. You gotta look at all the dogs that age out, pass away, don't make the team. Its nuts. Breeding too many dogs is just built in. Im not trying to be a bunny hugger or buzz kill. But seriously. There are ALOT of sled dog rescues.
That mainly stems from racing culture. Get rid of racing you don't get rid of sled dogs. There is still a place for these guys. You just remove the incentive to push them so hard. Add incentive to treat them better.
