Jay R is the King of RnB here in the Philippines and his female counterpart is Kyla. If you want to have an idea of why the Filipino singers are having a hard time penetrating the West, watch the interview of Waleska Herrera (YTuber) Feature Friday with Jay R and Jaya. Jaya started her career in the US and she had a song that entered Billboard top 40 in the 80s. Jay R grew up in the US and tried to have a career there. In the interview, You will find out how the US entertainment industry bans them from revealing that they are Filipino. And how they come home to the Philippines to start a music career. It’s an all English interview.

These three other guys with Daryl are also star artists in the Philippines. Another collab you might want to see is that of the trio of Jayson Dy, Jay R, and Jaya (the one you saw with KZ in a duet, she's an OG) doing their version of "Officially Missing You". Jaya is not just soul, she puts on exhibit here her RnB chops. And speaking of Budakhel, if you want to know how great they are live, kindly watch their live jam sessions that happen just about anywhere.
Jason Dy is a champion of the Voice PH. Daryl Ong was in the same season of The Voice Ph. Erik Santos was the first Grand Champion of Star in a Million. Jay R is R&B king!!! All of them were once regulars of ASAP’s Soul Sessions. If you have watched a lot of ASAP shows, they rarely use IEMs. Gary valenciano and Martin Nievera are the ones I see who consistently use them. Yes, ASAP put the artists in different groups every week depending on the theme.
wWe should not forget, these gentlemen are individual artists with varying singing styles and genres , but they were able to make great a ensemble, without losing individual qualities.
Officially missing you by jaya, Jason Dy wearing stripes on this video and Jay R wearing red shirt on this video. Amazing as well! Thanks for appreciating Filipino Talents ❤
Your child-like authenticity is what's adorable about you guys! Filipinos would not mind jamming with you, regardless how good you are. Filipinos just LOVE to SING whether they are good or bad at singing. May God bless you both!
Eric Santos( the fellow in the denim jacket) was a champion in one of the most respected singing competitions in the Philippines. Kindly react to his solo performances and be amazed!
Bruno Mars will be performing in the Philippines sometime middle of this year. His mother hails from Cebu City where Morisette also comes from. Bruno’s mother was a singer herself and built a singing career in Hawaii with her Puerto Rican husband!
Yay! Thanks so much for giving in to mine and the others request! Told you, you will not get disappointed. First time I heard this collab of these amazing guys, I knew it's lit and I really think this collab is a gem. It's really nice to hear both your take on this. Glad you both enjoyed listening and supporting our many talented singers. I really think your idea of interviewing some of our fab singers on your podcast will be great.
I always wonder why we have so much talented artists here but we didn't got the chance to penetrate international market...but I can slowly see now that we are trying to, SB19 and Zack Tabudlo are doing great so far. I hope it will continue to progress coz I believe we have what it takes to be big.
from left to right: Daryl Ong, Jason Dy, Erik Santos is the Philippines' Prince of Pop, and Jay-R is the Philippines' King of RNB! glad you reacted to them!🥰
To be honest the reason why I subscribe is because of the "discussion" I like it when the both of you geek out in analyzing a performance. I learn more from you guys than my music teacher.
Darryl Ong one the top 5 finalist of the voice Philippines, and Jason Dy. Eric Santos was a grand champion of one ASEAN Singing Contest. , Jay R is an R&B legend. Thumps up for there talents. Try Sarah G's rendition of Creep👍👍👍
I’m a sucker for collabs where the voices are all men. The levels of pleasure that resonate in my ear soothes my soul. These guys did a fantastic job. First time listening to this. Filipino artists hit you in a different way after you’ve watched them long enough especially in collabs. It’s about getting out the BEST of a song to the masses collectively, using their individual talents and skills to make their magic and produce gold. That’s what makes them proud and why I love and prefer listening to them instead of much of mainstream U.S. music today and I am not from the Philippines. Thank you for this reaction again. Great ear and great discussions always. P.S. Think it’s time you listen to some of the jam/practice sessions of Budakhel. I think you’ll enjoy how they don’t need much tweaking but just enjoying the insane voices of the Filipinos outside a recording studio.
Josh and Lucas, another discovery eh!... These artists are a mainstay and well-known in the Philippines. This music video is quite old. And, by the way, Jason Dy, his last name is pronounced DEEE, not dye. You are just scratching the surface of discovering the talent in the Philippines. No tune enhancements; just pure raw talent. As the world is discovering this phenomenon that is rather unique in the Philippines; it must be the water"...ha..ha..ha... And, Filipino/Filipina artist love to collaborate with each other. You did allude to that uniqueness amongst Filipino/Filipina artists; the friendship and the desire to encourage the other as opposed to just thinking of one's advancement (common good), is uniquely Filipino. Thanks, guys for loving and enjoying these artists from the Philippines. Cheers: American-Filipino here on the West Coast of the USA.
Jay R is actually from the US as well as Kris Lawrence but they opted to go to Philippines to make it. It probably was the right choice as there were a slew of Filipino-American vocal bands in the US such as Kai, Droppin Harmony, Innerlude back in 2000s but they never made it big. It’s normal for groups not to make it, but it’s especially difficult for Asians in the US, I think. Not until BTS, did I think it was possible for Asian males to be big outside Asia. If the Koreans can do what they did in Korean. I’m thinking, Philippines is a powder keg of talent.
Wow. This performance will be in my treasure trove of great performances. I wouldn’t have known about their collaboration if it wasn’t for your reaction. Thank you. Made my day already.
Thanks Josh and Lucas for supporting the Philippine artists. Something very special is definitely happening in its music industry...Billboard is even going back to set up shop once more in Oct after packing up in 2018.
These guys are so authentic! I appreciate your authenticity! Please start the podcast already! Please! Can’t wait anymore. Like 20-30 minutes is just not enough! I support you 💯%

"it's the American Music Industry that's stopping it", "stopping anybody from anywhere else attempting to chart". Indeed, that's exactly what really is happening. "Do you think because they're not American?" "100%, there's definitely some xenophobia there". This is very true. You guys are good. 👍👍
The way you guys analyze music industry as a whole is just vivid and truthful. Indeed a lot crappy music is fed into our system that is not even worth listening yet they are popular 😢
Good day. Hope to see you react to them, too! 1. Cater 2 u - katrina velarde, eumee capili, monique lualhati 2. Weak - kyla and daryl ong 3. Officially missing you- aicelle and jed madela Lots of love. Thank you
They've been singing together for almost a decade that's why they sang in unison. They are called the "sessionistas" in ASAP show. They master each other tones, that why there tunes blends in nicely. ❤
The guy next to Daryl is Jason Dy who together with Morissette performed on the Wish Bus Diyan Ba Sa Langit. hope there is a closed caption. their collab was superb.❤
Your conversation reminded me of a tweet I saw from Kalen Allen last month (Kalen is that funny gay guy on the Ellen show) where he posted a video of Whitney Houston singing All The Man That I Need live, with the caption: "Our parents grew up with excellence and now we’re stuck with 30 second TikTok sounds…I genuinely don’t know how we allowed music to regress like this... Like…do y’all hear her?! The music?! The quality?!"
I really liked this quartet rendition when it first came out, hence it was a real pleasure to see your reaction here. However, more than your reaction (which was great by the way), it's your discourse on the current state of the US music industry that resonates with me. It is a sad truth that xenophobia has prevented a lot of really talented artists from getting their break into the industry. Jay-R (on the far right of this video), who grew up in California, had the talent and enough connections to get his demos listened to and acknowledged by some of the record labels back in the early 90s but they wanted to package him without mentioning his Filipino heritage. As fate would have, he went to the Philippines, got his break, and became the OG male R&B artist there. In so doing, he inspired a whole new generation of male R&B artists to come after him. Erik Santos (2nd from the right) got his break by winning a singing competition of the ABS-CBN network in the early 2000s and has become one of the top balladeers in the country since then. He sang most of the melody for this quartet because he actually recorded this song (a remake of the original by the Neocolours, an all male band from the late 80s/early 90s) as part of the OST for one of ABS-CBN's TV series. Daryl Ong and Jason Dy (pronounced as "DEE") are among the younger generation of R&B artists who are making a name for themselves in the industry. This quartet was another brilliant collaboration of four artists who really have individual careers that span two generations: Jay-R and Erik are two of the OGs while Daryl and Jason are two of the youngbloods. That they were able to come up with this performance as a group was a testament to their talent and their humility to harmonize instead of trying to outsing one another. A true treat for us who love good music.
Adding to your point bringing a Filipino talent and conforming them to the label is Charice Pempengco. She was signed to a major label but gave her a pop song instead of giving her a power ballad
I like how Lucas thinks, and I totally agree with him. If I had financial capability, I'd totally give the best exposure to all these super talented singers.
12:15 "soulful acapella" That's a good way of describing this, although it has an instrumental backing track so it isn't actually a capella. But to have four voices harmonizing this way is so different from traditional/classical/baroque SATB polyphony or barbershop or the kind of college a capella groups that Pitch Perfect turns into comedy. The arrangement is very intentional, they could be helping create a new genre.
There was this one time that regine Velasquez shared a stage with mandy moore.... But america was not yet ready for her or any of the other Filipino artists then.... But she was recognized somehow....
Yeah!!!enjoyed watching your reactions!Thank you very much... 2/4 on the list I gave out...After the 4, I'll put up another 4 soon..Still thinking what other sounds you might be interested in🙂...I'm actually excited and looking forward to your reactions.. Thank you for giving support to Filipino artists.. Bless you both...

Love your reaction as always... Another favorite of mine is daryl Ong 's rendition of the song RUDE and a cover of the song WEAK with a powerhouse RnB kayla. Like the riffs and runs are overwhelmingly good. It's too much in one song yet it sounds so good. Voice acrobatics is what i can say.
You should try watching old videos of Daryl Ong and his former band voices of 5. You will see that they dont need in ear monitors. Try "knocks me off my feet "by voices of 5 😊
You mentioned about KZ and her work with Jaya. Thanks. KZ is my best. Have you tried her covers from China Contest titled "I Am Singer?" I hope to see your reactions as I can see you yourselves are authorities in Music.
During the pandemic, a lot of Filipino artists did collabs. You should also try watching Filipino talent shows especially Tawag ng Tanghalan which is a part of a noontime show here in the Phils. Gigi was a contestant there
Josh and Lucas watch the duet of Daryl Ong and Wonji of Jim Brickman 'My Destiny', they were apart while singing, they stayed in each country. Thanks for both of your reactions. ❤️🎶🇵🇭
Jason & Eric are champions in 2 diff periods while Daryl is a finalist. But I know that Daryl Ong is a vocal coach to many male showbiz actors trying singing. JR is a crooner in himself. He became big bcoz of his talent.
Discrimination is very alive in the United States! They even attempted to ban Lea Salonga for playing the lead role in Miss Saigon. The English production executives refused to budge and was willing to withdraw from the New York production . Lea ended up winning the coveted Tony Awards for that year after winning the Lawrence Olivier Award in London the previous year. A lot and I mean a whole lot of Filipino artists were outright banned or discriminated in the United States. Surprisingly, they do well everywhere else in the world. Does that tell you what it is truly like in the United States?
Sadly, pure talents have been brushed aside here. Filipinos used to love listening to the good music of the best singers in America. From there, I think a lot of us have adapted our talent for singing. I hope Charles Darwin's theory is not true. If generations now would listen to autotuned and not-so-good singers like KPOP, there would be no great singers like these guys in the future in the Philippines. We have lost our hopes of making it into the limelight. These pure talents are just happy making covers, and I am very glad that guys like you truly appreciate them.
You really hit the point talking how Filipino artist cannot penetrate the U.S market with their talents. It's also what i learned during Jaya and Jay-r's interview. I enjoy watching your reaction video. Thanks for appreciating Filipino artist

I enjoy your talks and your discussions. I really love how you appreciate Filipino singers. Thank you! Been binge watching your videos 😊
Hahaha i love that terms he got some of the water 💦😜🫢(for Bruno Mars)
12:56 that's 'filharmonic.' They were in pitch perfect movie and James Corden show.
You can see them all together in ERIK SANTOS THE GREATEST MOMENT CONCERT ❤
You should try watching old videos of Daryl Ong and his former band voices of 5. You will see that they dont need in ear monitors. Try "knocks me off my feet "by voices of 5 😊
Jason Dy Won The Voice S2, and Erik Santos won the Star in a Million S1
Your reactions and opinions are on point. Thank you guys!
More power to your channel!💪🙏🙏
Erik santos my all time favorite🎉❤❤❤

You mentioned about KZ and her work with Jaya. Thanks. KZ is my best. Have you tried her covers from China Contest titled "I Am Singer?" I hope to see your reactions as I can see you yourselves are authorities in Music.
During the pandemic, a lot of Filipino artists did collabs. You should also try watching Filipino talent shows especially Tawag ng Tanghalan which is a part of a noontime show here in the Phils. Gigi was a contestant there
Are you guys familiar with the Philippine Madrigal singers? Might be fun to check out a world renown Filipino choir.
yes please. Maybe they can start with Izar Ederrak (The Beautiful Star) in France
Soda by James Reid next, please. Both MV and WishBus versions are a vibe.
Up
looks Morissette - Panaginip LIVE
Reo Brothers next please
i want to hear what you can say about this talented group..They are Beatles in the Phil.
ON POINT REACTION as always,,, MORE POWER GidKidDad
Discrimination is very alive in the United States! They even attempted to ban Lea Salonga for playing the lead role in Miss Saigon. The English production executives refused to budge and was willing to withdraw from the New York production . Lea ended up winning the coveted Tony Awards for that year after winning the Lawrence Olivier Award in London the previous year.
A lot and I mean a whole lot of Filipino artists were outright banned or discriminated in the United States. Surprisingly, they do well everywhere else in the world. Does that tell you what it is truly like in the United States?
Had to Google what barbershop quartet means. 😅
Jaya, Jason Dy and Jayr - Officially missing you
Budakhel - heaven knows
One of the GOATs of OPM.
Please react to Daryl Ong and Kyla's cover of the song Weak... thank you!😘😘😘
i so like your dialogue, keep talking and we keep learning
Thank you so much for watching!
Please do "officially missing you" with jaya, jay-r and jason dy...
