Duke Wellington said that? Wow. What a revelation. I thought it was Blucher and Wellington who defeated Napoleon. The whole Wellington plug is a bit out of place here.
The Vikings weren't anymore brutal than any other adventurers throughout history. The clip is less historical than sensationalist with a lot of fluff.

What attracts people to watch all of these historical documentary is the Setting the scene with dramatical sensionalism. Having a professor in suits giving a lecture does not make for good entertainment. Better to draw people so they can learn.😊

@@eddygonzalez6018 That might be true for a combination of crappy professors and simple audiences. The result is an idiotic jumble that isn't history at all and nobody is learning much. For whatever reason, the TH-cam algorithm keeps shoving this pseudo history trash into my recommended list.

Didn't most medieval boys start learning to use what they had as weapons? Kings were frequently calling up armies.

@@reynardus1359I agree with you. Just like some TH-cam channels. However, Chronicles is produce by Little Dot Studios Network, and Hostory Hit. They produce the most accurate historical content based on historical records, Historians and professors. They carry many other contents besides Medieval. Many are hosted by Drs Dan Johns, Lucy Worsley, Suzannah Lipscomb, and others. This particular channel of Hostory Hit, I trust. I've met Historian and author Patric Wyman. Very knowledgeable man.

As far as I know, it was not Erik the Red, who reached the Newfoundland, it was his son Leaf Erikson. Leaf was blown off course by the storm, while returning from the Norvegian King's service to his home in Greenland.

Lindisfarne were a rescue mission where monks mysteriously had died and the Vikings offered to rescue the valuables.
The Catholic Church were plundering normal people for the sake of riches. Vikings helped redistribute the fortunes not to mention helping the holy men becoming closer to their God....
There's always more than one side to a story.

The Vikings didn't shave their heads. They had long hair (unlike the show ...). Short hair was for thralls (see The Northman for the most authentic Viking looks ever done in film). This depiction makes me question the authenticity of this documentary.

Some of this documentary footage was filmed in New Zealand…. approx 20,000 Kms from where the Vikings roamed. The supposed Norwegian Fiord shown at 24:05 is actually Milford Sound in New Zealand. The producers weren't too particular about using authentic locations for their documentary.

The Viking age, provoked by the Christians.
After many years of attack against non Christians North of France, and then making it forbidden to trade with non Christians.
Finally the Vikings reacted in the same way and for the same reason as the Mongolians did.
And that is the main reason they was specially happy when they could attack and destroy any Christian building or establishment.

And why was it that very young viking boys were trained in battle? Because every viking believe in that dying in battle was an honor. Becoming old man was a disgrade to viking men.
Over all I think there are many facts missing in this documentary. Try to use the Icelandic Sagas as referece next time.
