Keep up the good work. Disney and the rest will have to listen eventually. Long live sanity and meritocracy! Good show all round.

it's worse than that. Mae told her sister she would kill her rather than let here join the Jedi, then locked her in her room, set fire to the place, then sealed everyone inside. If Sol hadn't killed her mother, she would have perished in the fire anyway, along with all the other witches. Fortunately for Mae, she got a pass for that thanks to the actions of the Jedi who actually acted in good faith. The only bad Jedi in the end was green lady, who decided to pin everything on Sol. She was a horrible person, Osha and Mae were both horrible. There was nobody in the show who you could empathise with. Not surprising really, it was written by sociopaths who lack the ability or the awareness to empathise, so to them, it was just a fun romp in the Star Wars universe, and they don't understand why anybody else would fail to enjoy it.

I know it did. That was part of my point.
RoP was such a unique brand of offensive and terrible, I watched the entire show only through TH-cam critics; found a specifically non-Amazon bookstore to buy the Tolkien books, and read them as I never did as a kid because I was reading Foundation and Dune instead.
And now I have a love for Tolkien that retroactively makes me hate RoP.
As far The Acolyte... I haven't been able to tolerate *anything* Disney has put out. People keep saying how awesome "Andor" was; I saw the opening datestamp/planet title in the show and noped out because dating an episode with "BBY" is like stamping a coin with "BC".
Man, seriously, I saw The Empire Strikes Back in cinemas with my brand new glasses. I only watched The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi via piracy; and couldn't bring myself to watch The Rise Of Skywalker even that way. Rogue One, Solo... all that crap didn't just leave me cold, it left me nauseous and occasionally furious. So by the time "The Acolyte" rolled around, it was just "oh yeah, still yet more crap so who cares" and I was able to just nitpick and laugh my way through that garbage... while weeping for the Extended Universe and begging Jar Jar for forgiveness.
So I guess at some point I stopped measuring degrees of Disney suck and just lumped it all into the "who gives a faecal".
Disney put out a Star Wars cookbook with "fried tip-yip", emulating some planet fowl cooked in a starship's engine exhaust. You know, consisting of particulate radioactive heavy metals? I wish Disney execs and modern fans would eat those, seriously.
Don't get me started on the "Doctor Who" or "Star Trek" I loved since I was 7. In 1978. Juuuuust don't.

Do you remember the movie, Batman starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson where the Joker and his gang ruined all the paintings, statues and artwork, thinking he's an artist, claiming he makes art until someone dies AKA a homicidal artist? That's what Leslye Headland and Kathleen Kennedy did. They took George Lucas's art and ruined it, claiming their art is as good as his and like Kim Basinger's character, Vicky Vale, we say, "You must be joking." Wow, I had never heard the "villain romance" thing encapsulated like that before - that the hero will sacrifice you to save the world, but the villain will sacrifice the world to save you. Holy moly, such an intense concentration of delusion, narcissism and utterly detached moral compass! Which plays right into this show. Here's a short version of The Acolyte: A Morality Tale:
Who wins? Bad guys, murderers, betrayers, evil, liars, turncoats, viz: Smilo and Osha in the sunset
Who loses? Jedi, those who died, those doing their duty, good people, naive schlubs (Yord, Jecki etc), Mae, the truth
Who is compromised? Vernestra, the Council, Yoda, Mae, undertaking or progressing a cover-up
Yep, a show for kids that is. Set aside the beefcake, a show in which "no one is ever really evil" - as LH just reiterated in another astoundingly stupid interview - is just not for kids.

Qimir being possessed was clearly setting up season 2 to reveal that Oshas mother is acting as a guardian angel of some sort. Plageus being there was just shamelessly exploiting the legacy characters to elevate her own show. Were suppose to want to see "where this goes" and find out Qimirs backstory as an abused apprentice just to have him eventually die out of his love for Osha....despite the fact that the sith dont love.
Why her sisters mind had to be wiped makes zero sense. This is some of the worst writing Ive ever seen and based on the budget cant but help think its just a money laundering op.

The “Apocolyte” is exactly what its talentless makers intended it to be: a self insert vanity project designed to trash Star Wars, not become an extension of it. LH has clearly stated that she is Sith sympathetic and made this “show” to kill Jedi and elevate evil to “good.” She herself said Ep. 5 is her favorite and it’s easy to see why, with Jedi dropping left and right. The most graphic of these being Jeckie, a young woman Jedi, and I believe this is LH’s favorite moment, suggesting she is rather misogynistic herself. After all, she had no problem funneling young women who were more attractive and more talented than she is into HW’s “inner office.” The “Alcoholyte” was made as a subliminal expression of jealousy toward the people with actual talent, ability, and creativity who made Star Wars. Lastly, its complete failure financially is no impediment to a continuance of it, indeed it almost guarantees it in today’s “modern” Disney. Expect more. Unfortunately.

The show itself is trying so hard to Question the morality of the Jedi but fails miserably. It's like they're trying to say that if I break the Jedi down and make something new it will be better. The problem is that breaking something doesn't make it better rather than simply making it broken.
Then to make matters worse, the writers go out of their way to try and fundamentally change characters in order to make their way of thinking work but it just comes off as incredibly jarring and nonsensical.

I'm assuming given how long Osha was unconscious for that she probably has brain damage. Headland has given the jedi touches of nobility (self sacrifice, agreeing to punishment, adhering to a code), but it's lost in the mix. Between non-sensical stuff and swooning for Smilo (in a matter of hours), it's difficult for the audience to give her any benefit of the doubt. It doesn't sound like they've done the work to establish that Osha has lost her soul. And Mae agrees to a memory wipe seemingly to indulge her sister and Smilo (who is something akin to a serial killer).
It doesn't sound like they tied Smilo to the Witch coven. Given that he oversees Mae on a murder spree, a cleaner motivation would be revenge. If he's enabling her to kill people who don't really deserve it to draw her in, then that's absolutely psychotic. Unless you think Charles Manson is a viable boytoy love interest, then it seems unhinged.
To pursue the Rashomon link, I think Rashomon was an inspiration for 'The Virgin Spring' which was an inspiration for 'Last House on the left'. The Virgin Spring had a gravity to the act of revenge and allowed you to trust in the skill of Ingmar Bergman. Last House was probably meant to be a sleazy piece of B cinema. It was widely denounced as morally loathsome. The acolyte is currently nearer to the latter. It doesn't seem to aspire to having a deeper level of having something to say about inviting an audience along on a revenge spree. Ultimately, can you trust a filmmaker given their moral ambiguity included the mother turning into a smoke demon? If more of the character details made sense, then maybe you'd have confidence that it was going somewhere worth getting to.

FWIW: I only saw the first three episodes of the show -- lucky me 🤭 -- but I have watched NUMEROUS reviews of all the other episodes.
I also freely admit I have NO TALENT WHATSOEVER for reviewing TV shows & movies the way _NerdWord_ and so many others do so well here on TH-cam.
ALL THAT SAID, here {in no particular order} are PLOT HOLES which I IMMEDIATELY picked up on watching the three episodes I saw:
    (1) Osha extinguishes a fire in space. You cannot have a fire in space due to lack of oxygen. However, you COULD if whatever was burning was supplying both fuel AND an oxidizer to support combustion. But then it would be MUCH MORE DIFFICULT to extinguish a fire like that.
    (2) [This one is more a case of _they could have written the scene this way_ and it would make more sense.] Osha surviving the crash of the uncontrolled prison transport spaceship could have been explained by her overloading the ship's _inertia damping system_ to keep her and the ship in one piece throughout the crash. The STAKES could have been up by the fact doing so would almost certainly cause the spaceship to explode on its own, but she had to do it. Then after the crash the ship didn't explode, but most of the systems on the ship would FRY, meaning she would have to abandon the ship to avoid FREEZING.
    (3) Sol saves Osha from falling off a ledge by using The Force DIRECTLY ON HER. Later Sol tries to save both Osha and Mae from a collapsing bridge by using The Force TO SUPPORT THE COLLAPSING BRIDGE THEY ARE BOTH STANDING ON instead of just supporting both girls.
    (4) STONE AND CONCRETE DO NOT BURN.
I know these are all GLARINGLY OBVIOUS, but the fact someone like ME would notice AND REMEMBER THEM after only one viewing of each episode is significant.

One of the things that made me laugh was in the last episode Sol, manages to deflect to incoming spinning lightsabers his not even looking at while pushing back Darth Teef. This punches holes all over the Acolyte defenders arguments on Indaras death being relevant. Many of us already knew Jedi Masters could deflect things they couldnt see using the force but a simple distraction became an undoing, but here Sol proves Jedi Masters can use the force on objects that are coming at them but not seen. I hate how many Consumer fans there are just sitting down eating this bowl of lukewarm cat shit and exclaiming "Best Star Wars ever!"

I neither loved nor hated "The Acolyte". And I always listen to the points made by both sides. But this video is so willingly blind to what both The Acolyte and the sequels were telling that I have found a new channel to avoid, thank you.

I thought Riannnn Johnson was bad. Headland told him to hold her beer. I'm 67 and this has to be the biggest piece of shit show I have ever seen. This is a new low for Star Wars folklore. No I can't even call it that it comes straight from the horse's ass literally. Kennedy continues on her path to destroy SW. If Dave and John went along with this shame on them. It's awful.😢

The ultimate irony is between Rogue One and Andor the best parts of DSW have absolutely nothing to do with the Jedi, the force or any of that stuff. I watched the original trilogy for the first time in awhile recently and they still hold up and are great movies, but that’s all they are now. Unless they remaster the Rogue Squadron games I don’t care about Star Wars anymore and after s2 of Andor I’m tuning out. Ultimately the only recourse is to do what Obi-Wan said: let go.

Well said, NerdWord! The Acolyte wouldn't even be mediocre fan fiction in the Star Wars EU. It is everything that you said it is. It's divisive, preachy and boringly predictable social-politics in the form of an overpriced Star Wars TV show that lacks the acting, writing and production quality of a Star Wars TV show. It's like someone wanted to make a big budget yet highly-political and DEI version of THE STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL but under the pretense that is "impressive" because it is supposedly "feminist" and "subverts expectations" despite it showcasing terrible female talent and being exactly what most Star Wars fans feared it to be. It's like getting tickets to a Joe Biden or Kamala Harris speech while hoping for the best and expecting the worst....only to find out that it is even worse than the "worst" that we expected.
Apart from the next season of The Mandalorian and Andor (or, maybe, Ahsoka), Star Wars is kind of dead to me now. I already know what to expect from STAR WARS going forward. It will be preachy melodrama with bad acting, questionable cast hires that we are somehow supposed to "celebrate" because they are "diverse" and predictable storytelling where the writers are so intent on being non-predictable that we see everything coming. Yes, STAR WARS is now a fading memory for me with a few moments of nostalgia. At this point, I am actually surprised for the few TV, game or movie productions in which STAR WARS doesn't have preachy melodrama with bad actors and terrible stories.
At this point, the only thing that could have save STAR WARS would be for the Force ghost of Luke to tell a protagonist that the afterlife has taught him that everything he said to Rey and Company in THE LAST JEDI was wrong. Yet, given Kathleen Kennedy's well-publicized views, Disney's virtue signaling and Mark Hamill's weirdly pompous sociopolitical diatribes, that is unlikely to ever happen. So, we're just left with great memories of the original trilogy, mostly good memories and hopes for the prequels and some good memories from Andor, The Mandolorian and a few video games and cartoons.
    Rest in Peace, STAR WARS.
It's a shame that rabid social activists posing as filmmakers patted themselves on their backs when they killed you.

I am done with toxic identity politics, garbage writing and antagonism towards fans. I will content myself with Lucas era shows and movies, like Clone Wars, and the EU books I am currently buying. And games like KOTOR and Fallen Order. There is a lot of good Star Wars out there, even before I was born, and I would rather enjoy that instead

Even though you don't share political views, you need to figure out that Lesyle Headland does not have any respect for George Lucas. Why a vast majority of people who call themselves "fans" believe that she has respect for George Lucas? When in all her interviews, she didn't stop to talking about how George Lucas was wrong in how developed Anakin, or the fact that it was misognystic go with George Lucas and asking him questions about his universe.
Are not these clues about what Lesyle really think about George? I can't believe that just because she said that "Star Wars" saved her life, people decide believe in her.

This show left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm glad it's done and I hope it's not renewed.
I never understood the motivation of the twins! It seemed to change from scene to scene so I could never lock on to how I was supposed to feel towards either girl. An impossible role for Amandla Stenberg to pull off!
Vernestra is the worst and I don't understand how she had so much independent authority. Her autonomy was implausible, her leadership questionable and her decisions outrageous!
Why did Bazil sabotage Sol's pursuit?
Lee Jung-Jae was amazing throughout and I was appalled at his death and the maligning of his character by Vernestra.
Qimir was well-acted by Manny Jacinto and intriguing as a character.
Dafne Keen is always a pleasure to watch and was very likable as Jecki.
The spaceship chase through the rings was a cool scene.
The lightsaber duel was well-done as was the major battle in Episode 5.
I enjoyed seeing a kyber crystal get corrupted in live-action.
Always nice to see David Harewood even though he was playing just an obnoxious Senator rather than Plagueis!
Having Darth Plagueis and Yoda show up was fun but extremely problematic. It should have been Tenebrous because Plagueis is too young at this point and Cortosis was Tenebrous' thing. Yoda is now a co-conspirator with Ki-Adi-Mundi in this cover-up.
Headland's flagrant disregard for continuity was sloppy and disrespectful.
Headland's overt hypocrisy in objectifying her handsome leading men was irritating.
Headland's intent to tarnish the Jedi was a confusing failure! All the actions of the four Jedi in question were justified or misunderstood. The witches needlessly escalated the situation with their actions. Nothing to commit suicide over.
Headland's appropriating the Vergence concept to outdo George and trump Anakin was supremely arrogant and never fully explained.
Headland's skills as a storyteller leave much to be desired as this narrative was poorly-paced, nebulously-motivated, confusingly-explained and unsatisfying.
This show needs to be swept under the rug and forgotten as bad fan-fic! What a multi-million dollar fiasco!

in ep3 the witches know that Jedi are around and are moving away from the sttleement, while in ep.7 the Jedie more or less wander aimlessly around until they stumble over the witches...
Other stupid stuff: In ep1 one ship is used to get to Osha, but two ships (jedi ship and prision transport) leave, etc
Continuity is kinda problematic in the series...

The Acolyte makes me sad because... it had all the ingredients necessary to be a good show. Maybe not the best, but at least fun. But the people behind it are not good writers and I am not saying that to be spiteful. I say it out of kindness: they aren't good at what they do. I still cannot figure out the plot, none of the big questions got answered and the ending gave the impression they didn't know what to do so they just slapped something together in a rush. This is passed the point of not respecting the lore. I'm left asking if the people even knew the basics. The cherry on top is that the one good characters that came out of it being Jedi Master Sol was cheated as a character because he underwent true character development, had a real struggle, a real story and was genuinely trying to do the right thing in a difficult situation yet... we're expected to believe he is in some way the bad guy? He was NOT. Who knows what kind of life the twins would have had being raised in a cult. The problem is, you can't reason with crazy cultists so their first reaction is to be hostile. Everything the Jedi did was self defense. The one bad thing they did was keep secrets and even then... Sol was planning to sit down with Osha and tell her the truth the right way. Sol was not in on keeping the secret to save face. He did it to not cause further trauma to a child who was too young to handle the truth. Point is... It was a case of a reverse Midas touch. They started with gold, but then turned it into rocks. And it's sad because Disney can do better, has done better and once employed better to do the writing.

The Acolyte was BAD not because of the female leads, not because of the minority principals, not because of the LGBTQ identification of the show's producer/director/head writer! For a showcase of HOW TO REIMAGINE a female focused narrative of a previously male centric story, reference FX/HULU's Shogun. This series kicked a$$ and had very strong female characters and excellent story telling and thematic elements of a strong feminist nature AND did NOT come with the hefty price tag of The Acolyte.

What bothers me is that there are some really interesting story ideas in this show, but it is so badly executed through dialogue, acting (really just singling out Stenberg here, whom Headland called "genius" lol), character development, pacing, editing, overall narrative arc and so on. Now, I blame LF management for some of this because it seems the showrunner was told to make it 8 episodes, and limit runtime to about 30 minutes. That said, a competent runner or script team would use that extra time to more fully develop these characters. Sadly that didn't happen, so we instead got this mess of a show.
    Anyway, great breakdown NW.
Oh, one thing I will say, though, is I wish serious reviews such as yours would stop using the phrase "lesbian space witches" since it, in my view, horribly taints your legitimate critiques of the show and makes them political. Its become a buzzy catch-phrase, but it distracts from true commentary about the show and paints it like the "-ist and -phobes" other media paint critiques of the show as hateful. I don't care what sexual orientation this witch coven is, indeed, I did like the tender moment between the two Mothers. It shows their preference in a way that isn't stupidly and in your face, as in, these are two people in love, as well as being leaders in this group of religious outcasts; in short, its just one aspect of who they are. Unfortunately the writing in this show doesn't develop these two, or the coven for that matter, much past the surface level, but you can feel compassion for them. Does the show include an array of human diversity, yes, that's awesome! Including aliens, great! Other orientations, wonderful! Are they the main aspects of their characters, no, that's how include these groups and it not be the defining feature of their characters. Its fantastic! Sadly, other aspects of these characters are woefully lacking, as previously mentioned. Anyway, I'm rambling. Cheers and thanks for coming to my FredTalk.

They literally took a boy brand and forced it to be a female feminist brand and chased the supporters of the franchise away. It's a bastardization of what was once something amazing and beautiful. By people that hate it and the fact that it brought joy to many and brought them together. I'm old enough to remember the 70s a time with alot of anger and divided people, and then star wars came and it brought people together. Disney, kk, and lucasfilms want to divide and make consumers angry and bitter

Now for the main actor no emotion and this show failed from the start cause they got a lgbtq member to push this lgbtq show now being lgbtq isn't bad but when the show pushes for it it loses its main plot a siths acolyte but no and I saw someone on Twitter say they loved the sexual tension between the student (osha or Mae who ever was good) and master gimir now if that's what keeps people attention then this isn't star wars its just p**n and for a Disney show it's just sad.
