      It's my plan to retire abroad. I plan to make my money in the USA. Then, my wife and I will travel (just as we did for about 3 years when we got married) while we still have our knees. Likely, I will purchase a small property in a developing country...as a home base. And then, as I become less mobile, I can live comfortably with affordable services and in-home care. I could retire right now, actually, if I sold my real estate holdings. But I'm stick in the thick of my earning years.

      True but it is amazing (most of the year) SMA remains very peaceful and extremely livable. Cudos to the city and all, that strive to maintain that! The old Colonial Homes downtown started getting "mined" in the 70's and 80's and now very expensive like you say. Want another dream of a city to start "mining" the houses - where it hasn't got expensive? Try Durango, DUR.Mostly smaller old Colonial homes, but beautiful within walking distance of main town plaza. An old mining town - sister city to Durango, CO. (which got then name from Durango, DUR.) Great museums, great cafe society, and culture - couple of live theaters, etc.
      Caution though - it does have 3 seasons and is up high at 7000 ft elevation. AND, you're only 2.5 hours drive to enjoy "La Perla del Pacifico" = Mazatlan for short stays!

    there's nothing wrong with wanting to live in Mexico, the problem is when these foreigners start moving here its makes it harder and more expensive for locals. there is a reason why you think it's "cheaper" because in the U.S you have the privilege of making more income. in Mexico it's not like that, people here sometimes only make $5 a dollars a day depending on what they do, and you guys come here to take advantage of how cheaper it is. the system was not make for you. but if you live here respect my people, culture and always support the locals. just don't come because its benefiting you, that's just exploitation of your greed.

      @sandiraygoza1514 2 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      @Abbs M, completely agree that most of the Mexican citizens are struggling to survive. If their government allows so many foreigners buying up properties that are sold in USD, that is mostly unattainable for the local citizens to purchase. Many of the foreigners I've come across in my travels to Guadalajara, Jalisco end up living in the best places like Lake Chapala, Ajicic, etc.. and many live in gated communities. Overall they live in safety and the healthcare in Mexico is much more affordable than in the USA. Another thing I noted upon my travels to places like Acijic is many US citizens living there have created an artistic community but they are not promoting the local Mexican artists but themselves. You'll notice this video has English names for coffee shops and other businesses, that is very telling in itself.

    • @abbsm8873
      @abbsm8873 2 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      @@sandiraygoza1514 yes, and its infuriating that these foreigners get the privilege to enjoy the beautiful Mexican land while , the actual Mexican citizens have to live in under-developed areas, barely making ends meet. and they come here making business and as you said communities that only benefit them and exclude the Mexican people in their own land. plus the housing market is ridiculous like how you going to give all these foreigners the right to buy homes in Mexico with the the basic house needs and not actual Mexican citizens who sometimes don't even have running water or a sustainable roof/home. the government needs to wake up and make an affordable housing market for it's people.

    The american-canadian population has been growing really fast in the past years in San Miguel, making house prices go up insanely fast cause some of them buy multiple properties or real state agents only sell to foreigners, getting into the point where locals can't buy or rent and are forced to leave their hometown , i have nothing againts americans or canadians, they are just moving to what for them is a better place, just the way many mexicans go to the US o Canada, but the mexican goverment should do something about it, like controlling how much properties foreigners can buy, etc.

      Many U.S. citizens have the same complaints about Mexicans and other foreigners buying and renting properties in the U.S. which makes housing unaffordable for U.S. citizens. Stop sending third world populations to our doorsteps in America and Americans wouldn't have to move to Mexico. The third world invasion is pushing many Americans over the edge as the population is growing unnaturally without any signs of stopping. Blame yourselves for causing the issue and allowing illegals to pass through Mexico.

    My wife and I moved to Sayulita, Mexico (Puerto Vallarta área) when we turned 50. We built 5 rentals and our own apartment using our retirement money. We use the rental income to fund our living expenses. We are now thinking about spending the summers somewhere else as it gets very hot and humid down at the coast. it is possible to escape the rat race.

      @@gabrielapiccott3397 Most of the ejido members, true locals, in Sayulita are doing very well from their land holdings and businesses. However, the worker who moved to Sayulita does face an uphill battle to save money. Rent and food cost more in Sayulita than most of Mexico. The key to economic success in Mexico is to work for yourself because most Mexican owners do not pay fair wages. The entrepreneurial spirit is very strong in Mexico.

    I’m a Canadian who owned a condo on the beach in Mazatlan in 2016. It was $104,000 USD. I put $25,000 in renovations into the condo. It was a nice condo but being just above ground level it was plagued with ants and cockroaches. Normal things to deal with in hot weather climates. It just wasn’t something I could deal with as well as the language barrier was challenging. The time spent there on vacations was amazing at first but soon the novelty wore off. It’s not for everyone and takes a lot of thought to make such a huge move. I ended up selling my condo in 2020 and am happy I did. I know that I’ll miss the hot weather in the winter and I know that retiring in Canada will be challenging. Yes I could have kept it and rented it out but then it’s having confidence in someone to look after it for you while you’re away. For me selling it was the best decision. Yes I would have had far more in Mexico but moving away permanently from my children and grandchildren was the deal breaker for me.
