@@spidamitchell8311 It's a team effort. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good. The Cowboys not only failed to trade up for Paxton Lynch, but got jumped by the Raiders who took Cook ahead of them.
Those of us from Mississippi who are familiar with Mississippi State are proud of Dak. He's gone a long way for a 4th round pick. Maybe he's not elite, but he's usually good enough to get in the playoffs. Lot's of teams only wish they could do that.
I remember that my Dad was upset when Paxton Lynch and Connor Cook got drafted by someone other than the Cowboys. As a Cowboys fan I would like to once again thank the Broncos and the Raiders for their poor choices when drafting QBs in 2016.
I'm sure it's already been said a ton, but Dak was actually the Cowboys 3rd choice. Jerry's on record saying they were preparing to take Cook 101 before the Raiders traded in front of them. The even wilder part wa that Dak was basically just a desperation pick because we missed out on the other guys, I remember a few of the teams beat writers that year predicting he might not even make the final roster over Kellen Moore!
Neither were busts though. Wentz was the biggest reason that the Eagles were able to get the #1 seed and without that they likely don't make the run they did. Goff on the other hand was good enough to get them to the Super Bowl and was at least able to be packaged for Stafford
The Rams Superbowl win was because the NFL was so desperate to make the Rams relevant in LA, they gifted them a superbowl win in their own stadium. Too bad it didn't really work though lol.
It came down to Dak or Jeff Driskel after failing to trade up for Connor Cook. Scouts wanted Driskel, Wade Wilson, QB coach, pounded the table for Dak. The luck involved in the selection of Dak was borderline universe intervention level.
Brissett was mad underrated. There were people in New England who thought he should have taken over as the starter when Tom was done. My dad thought this and obviously he was wrong but still very serviceable qb.

That's why in fantasy football, I usually don't even want the number one pick, cause you're basically forced to pick the guy that's a "guaranteed breakout" but I feel like more often than not, the number one fantasy pick busts
The guys at 2-5 are all still options and could still be solid picks. Sure Taylor wasn’t great last year but if you got someone like CMC or Jefferson (who was #1 on my board last year) I think you’d be happy with your pick
I mean, no one is stopping you from picking from 1 like you're picking from another spot. If you think a guy might be a landmine, let someone else take that.
I'm probably biased, as an Eagles fan, but Wentz deserved MVP that season. The problem was he missed his games at the *end* of the season - for an injury he sustained scoring a go-ahead touchdown against the team challenging us for top seed in the NFC - whereas Tom Brady missed his games at the *beginning* of the season... which I guess the voters forgot was for cheating. But, yeah, after seeing his backup win Super Bowl MVP, I think that just sorta lived in Carson's head. He got *much* more prone to hero ball after that point, and that turned from "great improvisation" to "too reckless with the ball", which is where he is now.
Here's a stat that might surprise you: Jeff Fisher is ranked #11 amongst NFL head coaches for most regular season wins. He has more wins than Bill Parcells, John Madden, Jimmy Johnson, Tom Coughlin, Sean Payton, Mike Tomlin, and... well, a bunch of other, far better coaches. He's also ranked #2 for most losses, so clearly longevity has worked to his advantage. (In case you were wondering, he has only 8 more wins than he has losses, in a total of 338 games.)
Dak Prescott is a guy I never understood why he wasn’t rated higher. I remember watching his highlights and whenever his o-line blocked, he would scan the field and make decent throws
Dak gets more hate than he deserves. The guy is easily one of the better QBs in the league and is pretty consistent. Maybe if Dallas's defense could step up, then maybe they can make a deep playoff run and/or win the Super Bowl
*AUSTRALIAN HERE:* And even we know Tom Brady was pick 199 way back in the 2000 Draft. Looking at that draft Pick 17 Oakland Raiders Sebastian Janikowski (NOT A QB but a kicker) Pick 18 New York Jets Chad Pennington (1st QB taken) Pick 65 San Francisco 49ers Giovanni Carmazzi (2nd QB taken) Pick 75 Baltimore Ravens Chris Redman (3rd QB taken) Pick 142 Oakland Raiders Shane Lechler (a punter) Pick 163 Pittsburgh Steelers Tee Martin (4th QB taken) Pick 168 New Orleans Saints Marc Bulger (5th QB taken) Pick 169 Cincinnati Bengals Neil Rackers (another kicker) Pick 174 Chicago Bears Paul Edinger (another kicker) Pick 183 Cleveland Browns Spergon Wynn (6th QB taken) YES the collective wisdom of the NFL Picked 3 kickers, 1 punter and 6 other Quarterbacks *BEFORE* Tom Brady. Which means every team in the NFL had multiple chances to draft Tom Brady AND DIDN'T. The Pats can't even claim they knew what they were doing. Not only did they pick 6 other players before Brady but even we know that most of the Patriot recruiting staff told Bill Belichick *NOT to pick him.* ESPN made a documentary called "The Brady Six" about those QBs. My 49er's contribution to that was Giovanni Carmazzi who was with the 49er's for 2 years and after that a German Team and then a couple of Canadian teams. By 2011 according to ESP he was a famer in Northern California who practiced yoga and owned 5 goats but NOT a television.
I will never forgive the NFL for making sure that the Rams went to the Super Bowl in 2018. I truly believe that the NFL was trying to form its fan base because Los Angeles doesn’t seem to want football. The Saints were amazing that year and deserved to be there. I still don’t understand how the ref so blatantly kept the flag in his pocket on that disgusting pass interference. He was right on top of that play. And Drew Brees would’ve scored more than three points in the Super Bowl. Disgusting.
The saddest draft in Browns history. They traded out and despite not wanting a QB, passed on Bosa, Zeke, Ramsey, Staley, Buckner...even if they had did what they did, the 14 wasted picks...there were so many solid players to be had immediately after the guys they wound up selecting.
I'll never understand the hate that Dak gets from us cowboy fans, he has done everything he is supposed to and with the recency bias with Tony Romo this is career versus Dak is fair to say they're roughly the same player, but everyone loves Tony Romo in hindsight.
The Cowboys have many issues, and their QB isn't one of them. As a Panthers fan (and a Cowboys fan as they are my #2 team) I wish we could be in their shoes, especially last season...
2016 was my fav draft as a Jaguars fan. Getting Jalen Ramsey, Myles Jack and Yannick Ngakoue felt like steals and looked like steals until everything came apart in mid 2018-early 2019. Tom Coughlin and Dave Caldwell ruined that team quicker than it was built.
I think Goff has done more than enough to earn the respect of players and fans alike. I admit I couldn't stand the guy and thought the trade to Detroit was going to destroy him but he has turned into a MVP candidate and a great player/leader so ya gotta tip your cap to him.
The "Wentz only had one good season" thing is way over blown. He dragged the eagles to the playoffs the next two years and set the franchise record for passing yards in 2019 with no receivers. He was a legit top 10 QB for several years. Also, nobody mentions that in 2020 when he played like shit the eagles had no OC. He hasn't gotten it together since, so something definitely went wrong upstairs, but I do think if they never drafted hurts Wentz would still be a decent starter in philly
Let me premise by saying I’ve always been a cowboys fan at birth. However I didn’t get into football until 2016, Holy Crap did we got a break with Dak Prescott after seeing this draft disaster. Now over the years my trust in dak has diminished but part of me still knows he can be that 2016-2018 duel threat dak. LETS GO COWBOYS!!!!
I don't fault LA for their decision. Goff has been great so far in Detroit, but the Rams really didn't have the window of opportunity to wait that extra time for it all to come together in Goff's head. They took their shot, and got the QB that was ready to make the big play in the big game right then. It worked out for both teams; Rams won their Super Bowl, and Goff is hitting his stride right along with the rising Detroit Lions.
I would definitely have to agree that the Goff/Stafford trade was a win-win trade absolutely!!! Goff has lead us to our first NFC North Division title and now we're heading to the NFC Championship game for the first time since 1991!!! Oh yeah!! A win-win trade!!
Jared Goff is incredibly underrated. I hear far too many people say that he’s an unviable bridge quarterback that will be out of Detroit in two years. But I cannot disagree more with that assumption. For one, he’s 28, and still has some room to grow and improve.
Of the list, Dak Prescott and Goff have had the best careers so far of the bunch. 2014 was another year a ton of QBs were drafted - 14. Only a couple came out of that draft as well. Derreck Carr is well known and successful. So is Jimmy Garopolo who has an unfortunate knack for injuries. After that the draft really did nothing as well.
Brandon, you miss one small detail, the Cowboys were going to take Connor Cook, but the Raiders traded up to get him, so Dak was, actually, their 3rd choice.
He settled for Prescott but yet he kept him for all these years since they got him. I hope they keep him forever!!! As long as they have him the Eagles just can't lose! Go Dak!!!!! Yay DAk!!!!!
If I'm not mistaken, Jerry Jones was going to take Conner Cook as well before the Raiders traded up ahead of Dallas to grab him. Two bullets dodged for Cowboys fans in this "QB Draft"
I feel like I consider this draft the biggest mistake for the 20 teens raiders If we took Dak instead of Cook we would’ve had a playoff run and potentially kept Jack Del Rio instead of leaving him for John Gruden who got rid of Cooper and Mack. Without Gruden we wouldn’t have had to elevate our special teams coordinator who being a special teams coordinator wasn’t going to get the head coaching job permanently. This stops us from getting Josh McDaniels
I like where you ended up with this. It was a series of small steps that led up to us stepping into 💩 with the H.C. we have now....(I can't even say his name without getting sick)
As a Cowboys fan, I hate Dak. We would have won the super bowl that year if they had put Romo back in the starting lineup when he was healthy. He has to win a super bowl for me to forget that.
You missed that Jerry Connor Cook after missing out on Lynch. The AFC West single-handedly gave the Cowboys a franchise qb. But also Dak wasnt even the top qb on the Cowboys' draft board at the time

It could have been different. The Bears traded up 1 spot to draft Turdbiscuit. Nobody was jumping them to take him lol. They could have stayed put and got him or Watson or Mahomes. No they take Turdbiscuit. Buffalo could have had Mahomes too. It was their pick that KC traded up to take him. Then Buffalo wouldn't have had to draft Allen what a year later.

Cowboys having a roster loaded with talent on both sides of the ball gets them into the playoffs.
I remember that my Dad was upset when Paxton Lynch and Connor Cook got drafted by someone other than the Cowboys. As a Cowboys fan I would like to once again thank the Broncos and the Raiders for their poor choices when drafting QBs in 2016.
Nice to finally see some positivity when it comes to Dak Prescott
I'm sure it's already been said a ton, but Dak was actually the Cowboys 3rd choice. Jerry's on record saying they were preparing to take Cook 101 before the Raiders traded in front of them. The even wilder part wa that Dak was basically just a desperation pick because we missed out on the other guys, I remember a few of the teams beat writers that year predicting he might not even make the final roster over Kellen Moore!
Crazy that Philly and LA both ended up winning super bowls without either of those QBs. How often does drafting a QB bust result in a super bowl win?
Nfl is rigged
Neither were busts though. Wentz was the biggest reason that the Eagles were able to get the #1 seed and without that they likely don't make the run they did. Goff on the other hand was good enough to get them to the Super Bowl and was at least able to be packaged for Stafford
The Rams Superbowl win was because the NFL was so desperate to make the Rams relevant in LA, they gifted them a superbowl win in their own stadium. Too bad it didn't really work though lol.
@@isambo400 It really is rigged and for a looooong time now. Since superbowl 3 that Joe Namath "guaranteed" they would win.
@@nuraby_9228or the rams just threw all or nothing on that season
It came down to Dak or Jeff Driskel after failing to trade up for Connor Cook. Scouts wanted Driskel, Wade Wilson, QB coach, pounded the table for Dak.
The luck involved in the selection of Dak was borderline universe intervention level.

Could you imagine that Denver defense with Von Miller (at the time) and Chris Jones on the line? Even more scary.
Brissett was mad underrated. There were people in New England who thought he should have taken over as the starter when Tom was done. My dad thought this and obviously he was wrong but still very serviceable qb.
he scored 0 points a big fat goose egg when tom was susspended for 4 games and jimmy g lit it up in the first 3 then got hurt. He got a go and shit on the pot BAD

This is how this year’s class of qbs will turn out too. Young could be good, but its gonna take work.
Not to mention he had no WRs to throw to
Lol I am a Steelers fan and didn’t even know Paxton lynch was ever with Pittsburgh
If Goff was in sf at the beginning of his career he would have been so different

Can you make a video about the USFL Draft Picks/Off Season? USFL Kicks offs in 3 Days and I think the people deserve an update!
Brissett is pretty underrated I would put him over a lot
Of starters
*AUSTRALIAN HERE:* And even we know Tom Brady was pick 199 way back in the 2000 Draft.
Looking at that draft
Pick 17 Oakland Raiders Sebastian Janikowski (NOT A QB but a kicker)
Pick 18 New York Jets Chad Pennington (1st QB taken)
Pick 65 San Francisco 49ers Giovanni Carmazzi (2nd QB taken)
Pick 75 Baltimore Ravens Chris Redman (3rd QB taken)
Pick 142 Oakland Raiders Shane Lechler (a punter)
Pick 163 Pittsburgh Steelers Tee Martin (4th QB taken)
Pick 168 New Orleans Saints Marc Bulger (5th QB taken)
Pick 169 Cincinnati Bengals Neil Rackers (another kicker)
Pick 174 Chicago Bears Paul Edinger (another kicker)
Pick 183 Cleveland Browns Spergon Wynn (6th QB taken)
YES the collective wisdom of the NFL Picked 3 kickers, 1 punter and 6 other Quarterbacks *BEFORE* Tom Brady.
Which means every team in the NFL had multiple chances to draft Tom Brady AND DIDN'T. The Pats can't even claim they knew what they were doing. Not only did they pick 6 other players before Brady but even we know that most of the Patriot recruiting staff told Bill Belichick *NOT to pick him.*
ESPN made a documentary called "The Brady Six" about those QBs. My 49er's contribution to that was Giovanni Carmazzi who was with the 49er's for 2 years and after that a German Team and then a couple of Canadian teams. By 2011 according to ESP he was a famer in Northern California who practiced yoga and owned 5 goats but NOT a television.
Brissett is the next generation of Fitzpatrick
Never forget Hackenberg's drive against the Giants in the postseason 💯
goff is so underrated
That was a really good episode!
That Kobe line killed me
A ton of work went into this video, so many clips. I also enjoyed the XFL mentions, as I am a big fan of that league coming back this year.
Every video is gold perna 🙌🐐
2016 was my fav draft as a Jaguars fan. Getting Jalen Ramsey, Myles Jack and Yannick Ngakoue felt like steals and looked like steals until everything came apart in mid 2018-early 2019. Tom Coughlin and Dave Caldwell ruined that team quicker than it was built.
Favorite part was at the end when he acted like we didn’t know it was Dak when he name dropped him in like the first 5 mins. Lol
Wasn’t the same after the concussion
@@snake57 you know I've never considered that but the concussion probably played into his headspace going down hill
NFL fans just suffer from EXTREME recency bias
100% facts
Let me premise by saying I’ve always been a cowboys fan at birth. However I didn’t get into football until 2016, Holy Crap did we got a break with Dak Prescott after seeing this draft disaster. Now over the years my trust in dak has diminished but part of me still knows he can be that 2016-2018 duel threat dak.
LETS GO COWBOYS!!!!
The QB drafted in 2016 that hasn't been cut, traded, or retired is Dak Prescott
I don't fault LA for their decision. Goff has been great so far in Detroit, but the Rams really didn't have the window of opportunity to wait that extra time for it all to come together in Goff's head. They took their shot, and got the QB that was ready to make the big play in the big game right then. It worked out for both teams; Rams won their Super Bowl, and Goff is hitting his stride right along with the rising Detroit Lions.
Trevor Siemian was goated still sad we didn’t keep him
7:21 They also got the pick they would use on Denzel Ward too
Lmao the BCS reference
Imagine your legacy is getting outplayed by Brock Osweiler.
I am glad to your background important information on NFL players teams playing records. Keeping up the important information on players in NFL teams.
Ty for recognizing the lions fire this year. You should an arron Roger's video of him loosing his shit in that game lol
I don't know if I should be proud or worried by the fact that I knew all of these QBs names.
LOL....Go with "worried"!😉

It is absolutely wild how many years in a row the browns messed up their draft
Crazy enough, both the Eagles and the Rams got a Superbowl out of it.

If I'm not mistaken, Jerry Jones was going to take Conner Cook as well before the Raiders traded up ahead of Dallas to grab him. Two bullets dodged for Cowboys fans in this "QB Draft"
I feel like I consider this draft the biggest mistake for the 20 teens raiders
If we took Dak instead of Cook we would’ve had a playoff run and potentially kept Jack Del Rio instead of leaving him for John Gruden who got rid of Cooper and Mack.
Buddy is a broncos fan. I love reminding him about the Paxton lynch pick lmao
Good video, Perna!
As a Cowboys fan, I hate Dak. We would have won the super bowl that year if they had put Romo back in the starting lineup when he was healthy. He has to win a super bowl for me to forget that.
Do you think if Kellen Moore hadn't gotten hurt, he could've led them to a 13-3 record?
You missed that Jerry Connor Cook after missing out on Lynch. The AFC West single-handedly gave the Cowboys a franchise qb. But also Dak wasnt even the top qb on the Cowboys' draft board at the time
Holy Shite Balls! What a fantastic vid. So much info and so well written. Love the Balls Deep stuff. BTW…I still have waking nightmares about Paxton Lynch and all the ripple effects of Elway winning that bid. 😫😖 Now we are stuck in Patrick Mahomes hell for the next 8 to 10 years.
If he keeps putting ketchup steroids on everything, maybe longer.
Well done! Thanks!
Just another example that drafting a QB is a total crap shoot. The fact that so many people wanted Paxton Lynch blows my mind
I don’t understand how anyone can blame Goff for the SB Loss. McVay didn’t bother to make any adjustments the entire god damn season.
Yup, Dude was never embraced here in L.A. One reason (maybe) is/was compared to "Motor mouth" McVay, quiet, and McVay has an outsized personality while Goff doesn't.
