Very poignant memory, thanks for sharing. Being born in Los Angeles in the 90s, I never got to experience the Disneyland of the late 60s and early 70s, but I know enough to figure that it was a golden age for the park.
Wow, we used to do the SAME thing! Loved watching Disney on Sundays, the only problem was the next day was MONDAY and we had to go back to school, lol. Thank you for reminding me of a wonderful childhood memory!
I was there watching Disney on Sunday nights too. Can't remember if it came on before or after Mutual of Omaha's wild kingdom. Life was much more wholesome back then.
Same with me at my grandparents,....except it was at 7pm on the East Coast....we didn't have color TV though and I didn't understand why the narrator kept talking about 'color, color, color'...Remember the Ed Sullivan Show too....
Our family was at Disneyland that day because we have pictures of the Osmonds wearing those brown sweaters looking down from the 2nd level of a double decker bus.
We were also there while they were filming that episode. We didn't see the Osmonds, but my parents told me they were filming while we were there. I think they were filming over a few days there, not just one, although maybe the Osmonds were only there for one day.
Those were the days when you could get to Disneyland in the morning, see the entire park, have a nice dinner in the Tiki restaurant beside the Enchanted Tiki Room, sit through A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow when you were tired, take the buckets over to Tomorrowland and get on the people movers! Then you could stroll around in the evening after most families with little ones had gone home and have a romantic ride on Pirates of the Caribbean! Oh to live a day at Disneyland in 1970 again!! I can hear the sternwheeler horn blowing in the evening too....MAGIC!!!
This is the Disneyland I remember. My family went about once a month in the early 70’s. I got to skip school so we could go during the week when it was less crowded. It really was magical back then. I remember when America Sings opened too. Those songs are still stuck in my head. Remember The Old Gray Nag?
I loved when Disney did this and had the vault/classic episodes usually late at night. I remember that intro circa 2000ish. Was disappointed when they dumped showing these classics. Some of this can be found on Disney+ these days, but not everything.

Every time I see the Haunted Mansion, I always think of my husbands first time ever riding this one during his first trip to USA last year and his first time ever going to Disneyland. This ride blew his mind so much, he grabbed my arm cos he was so afraid of the part before the doom buggies. Bless him, now he loves it so much, such good times!!! :D
My favorite ride at Disneyland was The Haunted Mansion, followed by Pirates Of The Caribbean, and the rollercoaster, I think it was called Thunder Mountain or something. An old fashioned coaster made of wood, clicking and clacking, racing over the ups and downs so fast that your butt lifted right out of the seat. My Grandmother LOVED "It's a Small World" because she could sit down, and she loved boats. She also loved children, and would point out the animated kids during the ride, where they were from, and comment on the costumes. Disney was an amazing place all right. We could see the fireworks at night, from our backyard, during the summer season, when the park was open later for the tourist season. They didn't set off fireworks every night, but we could see them clearly from our yard when they did. I still have never seen anything like them all these years later. When Disney does something, they do it better than anyone else!! That is for sure!

I loved the Vault Disney opening so much, and the old Wonderful World of Disney opening from that era as well. I was just about Donny's age when it aired and my brothers and I loved it when they did shows inside Disneyland. We went on vacation once a year during the summer, and would stop at Disney every year, sometimes twice, or go there and then to Knott's on our way home. We waited for YEARS for The Haunted Mansion to open---I was a little scared riding it, but loved it! Thanks for uploading this treasure!

One of my favorite episodes. And the boys were right 2 minutes exactly with "Down on the Corner." A time when Gate prices were no more than $8 and Tickets Books were what you needed to get on the rides.

They were shown on Disney Channel a lot back in the day and were also released on VHS in the 1980s. Remember -- before he was an adult star, he was a child star and even appeared as a kid on an episode of Gilligan's Island as a jungle boy!
I was about five when I first saw this broadcast on TV. For the longest time I thought it was a mixed up memory because The Osmonds were singing a CCR song with Kurt Russell in there somewhere. I also remembered the guy saying the wall was about yay-high when they came into the foyer. Watching this just now was both nostalgic and eerie. Thanks for putting this up.
"Arlene Rounce" that was the real fun part of the plot. I guess a lot of young people could identify with that. Donny is lucky his brothers and the guy who is always worried about being on time, did not thrash him.
Pat Boone Father called Pat and said they reminded him of him and his brothers. He said it would be great to have them on his show. Pat called Andy and told him to watch them. Andy loved their singing.
"Kurt" is Kurt Russell, before he was famous. 46:27 - The face and voice of the singing bust are Thurl Ravenscroft---the original voice of Tony the Tiger, and the singer of "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch". 48:00 - The ghost host is voiced by Paul Frees---the voice of the Pillsbury Doughboy, Burgomeister Meisterburgher, and many, many other characters. 50:43 - The seance voice belongs to Eleanor Audley---Cinderella's Stepmother and Maleficent.
Some of Paul's other fine voice roles were Boris Badenov on "Rocky & Bullwinkle", and John Beresford Tipton on "The Millionaire". And he also originally did Disney character Prof. Ludwig von Drake.
Wow, this brings back memories. Donny and I were the same age. I had a slight crush and played their songs on the piano. Went to the Disney World first week opening growing up in Florida.
I remember the Haunted Mansion segment the most. When I visited the Magic Kingdom for the first time in 1972 and its Haunted Mansion, I recalled the scenes from this program.
This gives me a chance to see parts of Disneyland when I was only 5 years old and lived 10 minutes away from it! Because I never got to go there until I was 12 and saved up my own babysitting money; our family was just too poor!
Very good job fellows!! Congratulations. It's amazing to see the Osmonds walking freely in Disneyland & their not getting mobbed! This was during their younger days. 😊❤️
I was 5 years old back in 1970. That was the year I went there for the very 1st time. I remember the haunted mansion like it was yesterday. It scared the bejeezus outta me! Last time I was in Disneyland, was with my late wife back in 1988. I’m finally going back this year after Christmas! Can’t wait to see all the new rides there! 😊
Aw. Hope it brings back new, happy memories. I went when I was 5 in 1971. I remember me crying in my mom's lap, pleading to not take me into the Haunted Mansion, while my brotherstill and sisters went through.
The Haunted Mansion is taken over by Jack Skellington and The Nightmare Before Christmas during the holiday season. I drove my daughter nuts wanting to go on it again and again. It was my favorite. It has all the imagineering of the standard Haunted Mansion, just jazzed up with a Halloween and Christmas twist. If you get a chance to go during the holidays to see it, I think you’d like it if you’re a Haunted Mansion fan.
I remember watching this show and it was my family's first time going to Disneyland that year. I loved the little white lights in the trees at night. Miss the old Disneyland.🌠.
I miss a lot of the old rides that are no longer there. The People Mover, the Sky Buckets, the original location of the Rockets, the original storyline of the Submarines, the original Tom Sawyers Island.
I knew the writer for "Sugar sugar " ! I did anmial voice overs for a friend of his. This was an episode I missed. Back then there was maybe 4 channels on T.V. reception wasn't the greatest. I watched the Osmonds on Andy Williams! Watched Disney every Sunday.
Aw man this is old school way back pre Donny and Marie. Guess any osmond is better than none! I talked to Alan I think, a few weeks ago on here, when he commented on a post of the osmonds side by side.
52:04 Ah, THERE you are. And just in time. There's a little matter I forgot to mention. Beware of hitchhiking ghosts. (spooky laugh) They have selected *you* to fill out quota, and they will haunt you until you return.
I went on the Haunted Mansion ride in 1975. Some men were saying ,even, then, that it had been toned down. They said that it was really good, when it first opened.
"Melissa Gerber" yes, that is the paradox. A lot of the original characters, ride-themes, and movies that Disney made had very creepy ideas behind them and a lot of very young kids would only be freaked out for life.
The heads that popped up from behind the tombstones used to scream really loud so they removed the scream a long time ago. I can't think of any other changes.
The quality on this video is EXCELLENT. It's very good for analog era videotape. It's obviously NOT VHS! LOL Oh, we all know how well VHS ages!!!! Very nice job on the remastering of the tape. It looks pretty good. It does not look like old, worn tape. About as best as you could expect with the average TV set back then, pre-HD, pre-LED. Too bad Beta didn't do better but Sony has always been awful at marketing its exclusive format product. No question JVC won the videotape format war because they were more willing to "share the secrets" and their product was cheaper to make -- and again, it SHOWS on VHS tape!!!! For nearly 40-year-old tape -- Disney Channel was launched in 1983 --, this is very, very good quality. And yes, the programming was better back then when the Disney Company was not the bloated, authoritarian empire it is now. The night and day difference in programming! They weren't afraid to show a bunch of things and they still talked about their founders. The company today is greedy and completely out of touch with the mainstream.
"AvengerII" Thanks for the info about different film or video or tape. I hear that Disney used to be for kids of all ages, but as of recent decades it mostly has been katering to pre-teen girls with lots of "Princess" type context. I don't know about "greedy," I would surmise money has always been a pursuit but there has been a decline of the quality of its entertainment and / or a dissenting of the kind of entertainment it originally became famous for. It even has made or been involved with the making of R-rated movies. Of course it is ironic. I have heard that a lot of kids who saw Pinocchio or Snow White back when the movies were in theatres, have memories of being scared of the cryptic and eerie nature of such stories.
42:10 The Making of the Haunted Mansion I have heard of the Osmonds before, but never seen them or heard them sing, until watching this. I had no idea that Donnie was the youngest. I looked this special up because I heard a bit of trivia that Donnie had studied in the Haunted Mansion when this was being filmed. It's amazing how pure this is, and how it is not an overt advertisement for Disneyland, but still shows off that magic of the park. It's great to see all the classic attractions and characters, and too bad that a number of them are no longer at that park.
Go watch some of the video clips of them performing: Hold her tight, Down by the lazy River, Yo-Yo, one bad apple. And if you want to see them jam, go watch crazy horses and listen to that hard rock sound they tried out. Amazing stuff!
"Captain Sarcastic" Yes, this episode was fun to watch as it was not some overt movie or advertisement even though the plot was acted out and it was meant to show the behind-the-scenes things about the making of the Haunted Mansion. The Osmonds and Kurt Russell and EJ Peaker were real people, real performers. I recall seeing this when it originally aired. I had not heard of The Osmonds then. I forgot much of the episode as the years went by and after the Osmonds became recording artists whose songs were played on radio, I thought back to this Disney episode and wondered if the performing brothers on the Disney Showtime episode were really them. Now that I can watch this old broadcast on TH-cam, I can see how much I had forgotten. I recalled that it was Alan who was "breaking the fourth wall" and talking to the camera about the making of the Haunted Mansion, not Kurt Russell. Or so I thought. Also EJ Peaker in this Disney episode looks like Barbara Eden.
Remembering the 3 Swiss Alps mountian climbers once upon a time on the Matterhorn, the mule ride, fire dancers. I forgotten all about Disneyland way back then. My 1st job after HS was in the Main Street Electrical Parade. Best job I ever had, got paid for 5 hour breaks in between parades. Got to hang out in park and go on rides between parades. It was a fun summer job...then I had to get a real job...Pacific Telephone Company.

When I was a kid I would try to stay up as late as possible to watch the Vault Disney block. It felt so cool, being up late, in the dark, watching these old shows about stuff that I knew and loved presented from a different time. I was so bummed the night I stayed up and instead of the awesome Vault Disney intro they just reran Lizzie Maguire.
At 30:36 on this stage, I remember watching, with my family, Gladys Knight and the Pips perform. My parents were fans and were so exited to see such a group live for the price of a Disneyland ticket.
@@peteyb00 1. It's in the area of what is now the front of Space Mountain. The stairs in front of Space Mountain and the ride itself, now occupy most that stage and audience area. 2. As an aside, at Knott's Berry Farm, by the bumper cars, there was the "Good Time Theater" where popular performers did shows and paid guests could enjoy, for the price of admission. I sat front row center for a "Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds" concert. Miss those times. 3. And at Magic Mountain, we saw Tanya Tucker perform at their amphitheater, during the time she was dating singer Glen Campbell. After the show, we were standing outside the theater, when Tonya Tucker and Glenn Campbell walked (more like jogged) right past me. I assumed they did not want to be accosted by fans on their way out the park after her show.

So much fun. With all those teeth on the Osmond brothers, you need sunglasses. :-D
Osmond brothers got their start by singing barbershop at Disneyland. Andy Williams discovered them and had them on his show.
Pat Boone Father called Pat and said they reminded him of him and his brothers. He said it would be great to have them on his show. Pat called Andy and told him to watch them. Andy loved their singing.
I never realized how textured their harmonization was
"Kurt" is Kurt Russell, before he was famous.
50:43 - The seance voice belongs to Eleanor Audley---Cinderella's Stepmother and Maleficent.
thank you
Eleanor Audley is my spirit animal.
Kurt was famous already with several Disney movies under his belt...The Computer who wore Tennis Shoes" was one!
"Pattie" interesting information. Where did you find this out?
Some of Paul's other fine voice roles were Boris Badenov on "Rocky & Bullwinkle", and John Beresford Tipton on "The Millionaire". And he also originally did Disney character Prof. Ludwig von Drake.
My niece married into the Osmond family. Wonderful people.
Who's your niece
Wow, this brings back memories. Donny and I were the same age. I had a slight crush and played their songs on the piano. Went to the Disney World first week opening growing up in Florida.
Hi Sandy
man, I loved this as a kid. Back then I had no idea it was The Osmonds and 'American Institution' Kuer Russell.
I remember the Haunted Mansion segment the most. When I visited the Magic Kingdom for the first time in 1972 and its Haunted Mansion, I recalled the scenes from this program.
Oh I love this!! Seeing the park at this point in time makes me so nostalgic!! Especially the scene on the stairs in New Orleans Square!
What a treasured memory.I absolutely love This video ,back in the day. I loved the osmond's as well.😂
I'm digging EJ's bus dancing. Dang, 1999 commercials are nostalgic for my senior year lol.
This gives me a chance to see parts of Disneyland when I was only 5 years old and lived 10 minutes away from it! Because I never got to go there until I was 12 and saved up my own babysitting money; our family was just too poor!
My eyes still widen with awe, the way I did so as a child, while watching The Wonderful World of Disney introduction. 💫
I was 4 in 1970 and it scared me too…now I love it especially the nightmare before Christmas overlay. It’s not the same but still magical.
Used to watch these shows on TV as a kid! What a different world it is now. 😢
I sure miss the days at disney with my sister and my children.what great memories.
Damn what piece of history. Thank you for posting!
This was fun to watch
Kurt Russell was a staple on Disney films.
Check out poor EJ, she put little Donny Osmond in front. She was definitely spooked.
*EJ
My God, how great they sound, perfect harmony ❤
I remember watching this show and it was my family's first time going to Disneyland that year. I loved the little white lights in the trees at night. Miss the old Disneyland.🌠.
The dancer in the bear suit was awesome.
It was a theater attraction called Country Bear Jamboree.
How cool! I’ve never been to Disneyland, but, what a place❤
I enjoy this every time I watch it! ❤️
Hi Karen
All those beautiful old fashioned cameras.
This video is great! Even has a commercial for Disney Quest (Chicago and Downtown Disney ;) ). Thanks for posting.
Better days at Disneyland and the entire Disney company. Beautiful video! Thanks for the upload!
I enjoyed the people watching, just regular folks having fun. What a time capsule.
Look how young Donny was. I was 12 in 1970.
Can we please have a 'Love Bug' parade again?! That would be Far Out.
The beautiful vintage cameras.
When Disneyland was at its best.
I absolutely love the Haunted Mansion!!!
I miss Vault Disney so much.
Me too!!!
Ditto
You’d think they’d upload complete runs of Wonderful World and World of Color to Disney+ but so far, no.
@@jaredjlinden And your point is--?
Why did you waste bandwidth to tell us all something relatively meaningless over 2 years later?
42:10 The Making of the Haunted Mansion
I have heard of the Osmonds before, but never seen them or heard them sing, until watching this.
Jimmy is the youngest, but yes Donny is the youngest in this video.
Great, very good quality transfer. Thanks
Betamax, as mentioned in the description. I know what it is. Now I feel so old.
Thanks for uploading! Im watching at work and going to Disneyland after work!
That show is why I became such a rabid Disney fan!!!
it was great being a kid in the 60's and 70's Would not trade it for anything. 63 now and loving life to the fullest!
That was really neat. I think I was around 7 that was made. Thank you for putting it on TH-cam.
The boys are all so cute.
Say! The beautiful blonde, strolling around, with the Osmonds Bros. looks a GREAT DEAL like "I Dream of Jeannie" Barbara Eden!!
I watched this when it originally aired. Those Disney Days are gone…..but not forgotten
Thank you so much for this video. I just Love Disney classic shows. Those were the good old days.
And thus began one of Hollywood’s great love triangles - Kurt Russell, Merrill Osmond and EJ Peaker.
Sounds like you went from a fun job to a good job. Lucky you. You were living the American dream. How long did you work for the phone co?
@@loki6253 5 1/2 years...then most of us got laid off. I had a choice to go with Pac Bell or AT&T...wrong choice. 😕

I know what you mean after 19 yrs I left employment from a state job. I regret I stayed that long and did not go on as I had intended to went I first started. I did my internship there. 🙉🙈🙊😒😒
I wish I could have seen these things.
Wow !!!! This was so fun to watch 🙂
50:54 The happy haunts have received your sympathetic vibrations, and are beginning to materialize. They're assembling for a "swinging wake" and they'll be expecting me. I'll see you all a little later.
I'm fairly positive that the man helping guests board at 49:30 is Paul Frees, the voice actor behind the ghost host.
I loved this! It takes me back to 1970 and being an afraid, hormonal gay boy with a big crush on Donny Osmond and Kurt Russell! Lol.
At 30:36 on this stage, I remember watching, with my family, Gladys Knight and the Pips perform. My parents were fans and were so exited to see such a group live for the price of a Disneyland ticket.
What stage was that? Where was it located in the park and what stands there now?
This is actually really great
This brings back so many memories.
Sunday nights! Mutual of Omaha followed by the Wonderful World of Disney!
This was right around the time Kurt took time off acting to play in his dad's Portland baseball team. Man, America was great back then...
🙄
happy birthday Haunted mansion 🎂👻
