After working for a year in an underwear factory sewing the gusset into bikini and hip huggers we burritoed the front like a sausage then sewed across the front of the gusset. It was great when the jersey was more curly so it would almost roll on it's own! Notice how you have wings on the bum side of the gusset, if you slightly stretch the gusset as you sew it on to the bum it gives you the natural curve to cup your bottom and no wings to clip off after. If you placed the leg lace a wee bit over the edge of the fabric you could have just coverstitched over the top of the lace. I got a piece of shelf liner that you would use in a caravan or the stuff you put under a small rug so it doesn't slip around and put it under my foot pedals. I just wish when they are lined up side by side under my table that when the sewing machine turns on there's a light on the pedal so I know which is which! lol

Great scrap buster Rachel, you could use the burrito method on the gusset saves twisting and stitching!

High Rachel! I am in the process of making a batch of underwear! My first pair was disastrous and the second one was spot on, so I'm cutting out and stitching up more undergarments. your look nice also.

I love making my own knickers. I have quite a few cut out and matched up with elastics ready to go. If I’m looking for something quick to sew I can whip up a pair. Vanessa on the crafty Gemini has a quick tutorial on a small mat, that goes under your foot pedal to stop it from moving around the floor. I’ve had mine for a few years and it’s fantastic! 😊🌻

Great tutorial and a great pattern! The Stevies are my go to knicker pattern as well! I tried the MN Acacia first but they didn’t suit my body in the way I liked, the instructions are superb though! I have since adjusted my Stevie Knickers pattern to use fold over elastic to finish and sew them following the instructions of the MN Acacia as I love the burrito method of sewing the gusset (enclosed seams for the win!) & find it easier to sew elastic in the round.
    Love your channel!

Great tutorial! I sewed one pair and it came out okay. Not my best but I did make it from what I had on hand aka old t-shirt, leftover mask elastic and voila! A wearable pair of knickers. I have another pair planned this week but I also need to lift the front and fill out the butt😁 It will also be from what I have before I cut into proper fabric and supplies.

There is 'liquid rubber' to put on the socks of children so they don't slide on the floor.
Put some drops on the bottom of your pedals.
You could even use sanitary silicon

Thanks! I have some jersey scraps and now have a project to use it up. Love the idea of elastic lace waist band too which should eliminate the line around my tummy under my more fitted clothing.

Great tutorial thank you Rachel. I use a small square of the rubbery mesh that you can place under mats to stop them moving under my pressure foot. You can pick this up in Boyes or Wilkos 😊

Great video. I can relate to the slipping sewing machine pedal issue. I have cut out a piece of non-slip drawer liner (the slightly rubbery ones) or anti-slip rug under mat (they look the same) slightly larger than my sewing machine pedal. The pedal sits on it and doesn’t move on my hybrid laminate flooring when I’m sewing. No more of the pedal running away when sewing!

I have never tried making undies, but why not? I have a brand I like to wear and think I will cut a pair apart and make a pattern from them, as they fit so well. Thanks for the video. You have inspired me to give it a try.

    • @TheHaymeadow

Good idea to keep in mind manufacturers have access to fabric that can be much much stretchier than we may be able to find. That’s why our RTW knickers are ‘small’ when you make them with readily available 4 way, they will look bigger (frighteningly so 🤣) but will in fact fit a treat! Good luck, I also have a favourite style that has been difficult to find as patterns (boy leg).

    • @seaside2001
      @seaside2001 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@TheHaymeadow I thought it would be worth a try. I Stretched the ready made pair to gauge stretchiness in comparison to my fabric remnants and then choose from my remnants. I have a lot of 1/4 yard pieces that would be OK for undies. Worth a shot with little investment. Going to make a pair this afternoon and see.

So, we are just leaving the basting stitches in, correct? I like your method. Most tutorials have you zigzag TWICE around the whole circle, but it is very tedious to try to zigzag while also stretching the elastic, and it ends up with too much thread everywhere. I am going try basting foldover elastic on one side, and then cover-stitching it from the front, because I found it very stressful to stretch the FOE and try to keep the raw edge tucked into the wee fold at the same time. Thanks for the nice lesson.

On the pedals: I'm using a piece of the kind of anti slide mat we use under glasses in boats an such. It helps some, but too much dust, and the pedal (and anti slide mat) starts to move around again. Perfect for the tidy housewife. Haha☺
