    Please don't be misled by some comments below. This video does not say we can see future. It says Einstein's mathematical theory, tested by clock experiment, also tells us that future and past always exist like the present! However, this does not necessitate pre-destination. "Now" is not deterministic as we know from Quantum Mechanics, so neither future nor past! Click • Quantum Theory - Full ... to understand Quantum Mechanics. Wave functions evolve as time goes by. However, time does not collapse wave functions; observation collapses wave functions. Your wave function (which represents you) corresponding to your future has not collapsed yet. It will collapse in the future. As things in your life are probabilistic right now, they are probabilistic in the future too. Your past wave function has collapsed though. But your future one exists as a probability cloud in a sense. Here is a discussion I had with Avicenna10 about the topic

    A comment from my exchange with axypolyas on why illusion of time does not require predestination:
    +axypolyas Not sure why you are bothered by all these; perhaps it is because of your choices in life. Let me tell you something which will bother you more. You might know already, however, anyone who is reading this exchange will highly likely not.
    The "scientific" description of you, me and everything is "energy". We don't know what energy is. We can quantify it, however, in essence what is it? we have no idea. And energy takes different forms, like elementary particles, which in turn become atoms, molecules and part of the end result is "us". We know energy is governed by laws and constants which naturally takes us to the inevitable conclusion: we are governed by those constants and laws. Before discovery of quantum physics, this would mean we are completely deterministic objects. Quantum physics showed us that we are not 100% deterministic. We are limited by laws but still we are unpredictable (we can calculate probabilities of what we might do next, but we don't know what we will do next until we do it). What do all these mean for us? Who are we? or what are we? Why do atoms and molecules pile up and "make" us? to live longer? All the atoms in our bodies are almost 15 billions of years old. What we call life is just another state in which they continue existing; nothing more; nothing special about it. How can we make sense of all these? Can we make sense of all these? If we are only, and only, condensed energy, there is no such a thing as making sense of things. There is only energy going through one state to another state "mindlessly". Pretty scary and dark explanation of our existence, is the pure scientific one.
    Science is only a tool; only a methodology we use to "make sense" of the universe. It does not tell us why things are the way they are. It tells us how we can construct theories and how we can use methods to test them, so that, we can do all these in an objective way. Science is an extremely limited way of looking into existence. Are my feelings objective? No. Are they scientific? No. Or, should I greet my neighbour every morning? Should I have an extra spoon of ice cream today? Or why do we do science? Do we have to do science? Say for our survival? Our survival has no meaning given particles making up our physical bodies existed for billions of years and they will continue to exist, perhaps longer.
    I will jump to my personal understanding, rather than "destroying ourselves" using science. To me, existence of The Creator makes more sense than anything else, including my own existence. The Creator, who logically must (and interestingly described as such in Islam which I have chosen as a path to follow) be All-Knowing, All-Powerful, capable of creating a free agent (my soul for example) with life, creating a universe in which those free agents can grow up, examine, study, learn, make sense of it... freely... is the only logical answer I can think of. We don't see the Creator, or souls, or anything which would "force" us to believe and accept. Creator made us free and as part of making that choice freely, we will always be bothered by our existence, but we will never find an answer. That will remain as a matter of choice and it has always been like that.
    "The knowledge of truth as such is wonderful, but it is so little capable of acting as a guide that it cannot prove even the justification and the value of the aspiration toward that very knowledge of truth. Here we face, therefore, the limits of the purely rational conception of our existence." -- Albert Einstein

    +Mr Meow The time mentioned here is the dimension of space-time we understand using mathematical equations. When someone says "what time is it?" the question means "what is the agreed measure we use to distinguish our location (like latitude or longitude) in space-time?" It is another unit we use to determine/communicate our location in space-time. The difference from other dimensions is: if you don't move on the surface of the Earth, your latitude and longitude won't change but things constantly move in the time dimension. Things move from what we call the past to the future. Before Einstein, we thought past would be gone and future would come into existence along the way. However, Einstein realised and showed us that the past, the present, the future all exist in the same way even though we feel a flow from the past to the future.

      dingojerk The only way you can understand that is to understand this first: time is a dimension like X, Y, Z (say corresponding to width, height and depth). So, yes, there is a number on the time dimension which corresponds to your location which happens to be in the future, as well as in the past or at this moment. Your past, your now and your future exist in the same way. However this does not mean your future is predetermined. It is very difficult to understand this; perhaps impossible for humans at the moment. Watch my other videos regarding Quantum Mechanics (illusion of distance, rigid objects etc) which will help you develop an intuition about nature of reality. No one fully understands these, so don't worry if you can't.
      If you are wondering my personal thoughts on all these: The Creator, who must be independent of creation logically and by definition, has created everything in the same way ie. from a higher perspective; now, past, future.. they are all the same. But we, as the creatures who are part of the creation, are experiencing, learning, understanding and appreciating the unimaginably immense creation bit by bit, piece by piece, step by step, by moving along the time dimension. Once I ran into an article by a physics professor which was saying that discovery of Higgs Boson would mean that there is a force field in the universe and at some point in the very far future a disruption will emerge somewhere in the universe. It will propagate at the speed of light. It will wipe away the universe as we know it. Then universe will transition into a more stable state. Sounded pretty much like Doomsday and afterwards of the final judgement. I find all of these truly fascinating!

      ***** I appreciate your post. I think of the theory described in vid as something that is immaterial to time travel/future divination and thus real world application. If I were in Russia I would be 8 hours (24 hour day reckoning) ahead of the US but it does not follow that a lottery number that had been picked 8 hours earlier in US would be recorded in my Russian newspaper 8 hours ahead of time picked due to that difference . I wager this is more smoke and mirrors than science with no practical value as we know no means of overcoming the speed of light...but before light is transferred or emitted there must be a time/place to do such. No matter how I cut it it is only logical to me that one can become aware of what has happened in the past, in their real time, only from emanations from light/radio etc waves that has preceded the search for such regardless of what the individuals clock might read. I guess I am agreeing with you :) tis my laymen's concept of how time can be perceived in a cause / effect universe. Thx for post.

    It’s only slightly less disconcerting to think that the future already exists as well.

    Most people think I'm crazy. But I've believed, since the first time I took LSD, that time is merely an illusion shaped by my own limited perception. I've been able to experience days in what seemed like hours, and I've been able to experience weeks in what seemed to be months simply by changing my mindset. "Reality" is truly the most beautiful concept imaginable.

      @Random -- of course the past nor future exist, only now exists and that applies to everything in the known universe. Now while the past does not exist, the ramifications of the past do exist, if you step on an ant and crush it now, the past will always maintain the integrity of that cause and effect, that ant will remain crushed forever. The future is different, like the past it does not exist but unlike the past, events of the future can't reach back and alter the past regardless of the experiments that seem to show that photons appear to go back in time and change their state, wave or particle depending on if they happen to encounter a slit. I certainly don't have the math chops to tell them they are wrong but I have very confident that it does not mean the future can change the past or present, like this topic, that is in my opinion a bad interpretation of the lab results.

      I don't think you're crazy dude - when I did LSD many years ago one of the main things I experienced was what one can only call distortion of time....at different stages it felt like hours had passed and it was actually only minutes and vice versa. My conclusion then, is that time is only a matter of perception.

    Put even simpler, think of a film strip. Watching a movie, you experience the film as having a start, middle, and ending. But, if you take the film off the projector and stretch it out...you will see that all the frames of the movie exist simultaneously.

    • @23lsdx49
      @23lsdx49 6 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Steven Crittenden that’s exactly what I think. life is like a straight line and the past present future all exist simultaneously like you riding a bike for the first time at the age of 6 exist right now it still there happening you can Apply this to any specific time in your life before and after. Like when you die exist right now and when you were born coming out of your mother’s womb that specific moment is still there

    • @tinav8432
      @tinav8432 5 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      If you take out a film strip then there are two ends on the film strip, a start and a finish. Even though there is a start and a finish they and whatever is between them exist. To apply this analogy on the space time continuum of our universe we have a start (big bang) and a finish (second big bang or cosmic acceleration) and whatever is between them exist at the same time. But there is nevertheless "frames" or "slices" that are infront of or behind another slice or frame.

      I think the point he was making is that time gets extorted with motion. For example, their is a Russian cosmonaut that holds the record for most time spent in space aboard the iss. The iss is flying through space much faster in relation to everyone on the earth. The faster you move through space the slower time progresses. Therefore after crunching all the numbers the cosmonaut once back on earth is literally living a fraction of a second in the past compared to everyone else on earth.

    This is one of my all-time favorite explanations of a challenging physics concept. It’s mind-changing and life-changing, to realize that eternity - the sum total of past, present, and future - is real. Brian Greene explains Einstein's insight with a simplicity and clarity worth of his predecessor's genius.

      Past, present and future is how human sense defines time, as a continuum. In REALITY, there is no way to capture the present within the framework of time because time is never present. It only deals a past or a future. ETERNITY has nothing to do with time at all. Eternity doesn't mean a very long time. ETERNITY is timeless. Often human sense defines certain terms only on a limited basis because human sense only deals with the finite, the observable or the measurable. The word infinity means nothing finite, or not finite, meaning there is nothing there to measure. Having no beginning and no end INFINITY is completely without reference points. ALL is either all, or there is no ALL at all.

      It’s like the loaf of bread. If you take an iPhone and set the setting to 10 snapshots. Every one of those snapshots is a “now” but each snapshot is of you mid-movement into the future. So the picture of now keeps moving and centered the entire time. So confusing to me

      @@jamesdoakes4956 NOW has nothing to do with what appears to the so-called finite human senses. NOW is not the word NOW. NOW is not stuck between what appears as the flow of time. A so-called past is a speculative thought, and a so-called future is a speculative thought. NOW is REALITY. There is nothing prior to NOW, nothing after NOW as IT is not in time at all. Time never stops to be present, never stops to "be", thus time does not exist. BEING is a synonym for the word EXISTENCE. Both terms speak of what is the same ONE. The can be but one ALL, one INFINITY. There is simply nothing else present besides NOW, the PRESENT ITSELF.

      @@jamesdoakes4956 Not quite. NOTHING is moving. Try this analogy: You map all of spacetime -- which includes all pasts, presents, and futures -- onto a phonograph record. You place it on a turntable, but the turntable never spins. All of space time is there - space being the record, and time being a point on the record; all of your life is there; all of the "now" configurations of your brain are there - each with a memory configuration that tells a "then" "past", a "then" "now", and a "then" "future". Now, still without the turntable spinning, lift the arm with the playback needle off its holder and move it to any spot on the record and lower it onto it. That point on the spacetime record become "now". Pick up the needle and move it anywhere else. That then becomes "now". Your sense of movement through time is a complete illusion. The needle could be randomly bouncing all over the place, and you wouldn't have a clue. At every point, you'd have a sense of a past, a sense of "the" present, and a sense of an unknown future. But with the phonograph record analogy, you clearly see that there is a fixed future, even if it's not "yet" in your memory. Move the needle a bit forward, and a bit of the future will then be in your brain's memory configuration - your then "past". Note that time isn't moving and the needle never needs to be moved onto the record for all of spacetime to be there existing. HOWEVER, the needle is significant. More on that later.

    When your a baby you don’t even realize time passes and those years are gone in an instant, you can also barely move. As you grow you become more and more active seeing and doing more things, in general living faster. Then you grow up more and you slow down and reflect on what you’ve done before, how you felt like it would never end in the moment and how it now feels like the end is only coming faster. Then you get even older and reform back to a slow life, and at that point your gone in an instant just as fast as you were here from a baby. When someone tells me time is relative or time is a construct it makes sense to me because even on earth we perceive time differently depending on how we are acting. During quarantine I wouldn’t leave my house for a month or two at a time and lost all sense of time other than whether it was dark or light outside. You don’t live a seemingly long life by being motionless and hermetic, but by living fast and experiencing new things.

      +Nifty Fingers ok if you don't know anything about it like you claim, then keep your opinions to yourself? it's not a "drug" in many senses, more of a key to the door of a passageway into hyper perception of true reality. There are so many things happening around us in this present moment that our brain tunes out naturally. With chemicals like LSD, psilocybin, and DMT, those frequency blocking brain switches are flipped and we become aware of the true nature of the reality in which we live. Time definitely does not exist in a heavy psychedelic trip. But it's as if all things that have happened and will happen are happening at once within your relative perspective depending on where you are or what you're doing. If you are listening to someone speak, you will hear/see/understand an entire idea at one moment, rather than listening to each word said aloud and slowly piecing together the words in order within your mind. I hope this makes sense. DMT is the most intense thing in our known universe. You inhale it's smoke form and you are immediately tuned into all possible dimensions of our universe at all places in our universe, at all times in our universe. you can literally see another person/alien/entity who are also in the dmt plane-whatever it is. I'm excited about what we will learn about and from these chemicals.

      Ryan Cook my point was that LSD is no substitution for hard work. I agree I haven't done it I can't comment on it, but what I do know is that if you can't speak a language, LSD won't teach it to you. The guy above said "its all happening at the same time" multiple times to people and no one got it. Whether or not he understood the advanced physics of time and simultaneity, we will never know, unless he COMMUNICATES his understanding to us. And that communication requires the language of math and physics, which you have to study to be fluent in. LSD can't do your study for you.

Because it's a video tape, all the information is already on it. The beginning and the end is already written. Time is just " playing " your tape at the same speed as everybody elses tape is being played, in the same dimension. Time travel is only possibly without having a physical body. They should have definitely explained the mechanism that allows time to be observed by us, which is light of course. Obviously the graphic simulation had implemented that aspect as an implication, but anyone trying to understand this without that knowledge is going to have a hard time putting these pieces together. The reason why time is observably different is because when you move away from light, you technically delay the time it takes for light to hit your eye for your observation to be changed from the previous moment, and vice versa for light moving towards you.
    This could also just be an exert from the full episode, I'm not sure though.

Moreover him being in the past whilst those he left behind were still living normally, meant that all time periods sort of existed at the same time. So I finally came to the conclusion that time is like a house where all rooms, that stand for different moments, exist simultaneously.

Yet we persist with it and have to invent new particles and devices in order to explain our calculations. Don't get me wrong, I love maths, and have studied it to degree level. But I think we'll look back to our current time from the future and quietly laugh at our explanations of space and time, just like we do at our ancestors. James Halleluyah Weird, but interesting! Did you catch my reference to a Simpsons episode where Homer experiences a different reality when he kills a bug, and with other things he does? When you say "shifting back and forth...", does that mean you also believe in reincarnation?
      There are a couple of Star Trek TNG and Voyager episodes that deal with time shifting. There's also an episode were Data refers to alternate universes, where everything that can happen does happen in each alternate reality.

    • @jameshalleluyah8133
      @jameshalleluyah8133 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I did not catch the reference, sounds like a good episode. By shifting I meant gears as in reverse then forward. According to the video movement towards and away from the distant alien causes you to move forward and backwards in time in relation to the same alien.
      I'm a Christian so no on reincarnation. I look forward to something much better than being reborn God knows how many times and as God knows what.

      James Halleluyah Yes, it was actually a good episode. Oh, OK that's what you meant - I found the whole concept a little hard to follow. Maybe it's because it was so late at night and I was tired.
      Ah, OK, so you don't believe in reincarnation. I guess we'll all find out in the end exactly how many things work in reference to time, that we don't understand while we're still on Earth. I've read that actually, God sees time the way they were talking about in the video, because He's outside of time, and can see past, present and future all at once. It's only we who exist in relation to time and space.

    Everything is happening at the same time. The battles of the 1700s are still unfolding. It's like folds on a piece of paper, the fold covers over but the paper still exists. To time travel, to the past and future and back again is to experience time on an objective level. The way we go through time traditionally is to experience time on a subjective level, however, it appears the other way around. Buddha said life is an illusion. This is what he is getting at. Television does a good job at depicting an objective experience of time with the time flashbacks, etc. Jet lag is a result of an objective experience of time clashing with a subjective experience of time. O = S objective = scientific, subjective = opinion. A statement that supports a subjective experience of time is "You're never on time." Statement supporting an objective experience of time: It's gotta be 5 o'clock somewhere. I think I'll have a beer NOW."

    I'm pretty new to most of these concepts, so sorry if this is a dumb question...but if the alien is moving away from earth and is carrying a particle that is entangled with a particle here on earth, does that mean they're sync'ed over his "now line," meaning he could affect the entangled particle's behavior back in the past? And moving towards and away from earth would cause that particle to zip back and forth through time...?

    • @_paralaks_

      That's a very good question which I had to think about it a while ago. I don't know the answer because I don't know it it is possible for entangled particles popping up into different locations in the time dimension. If it is possible then particle might not zip back and forth through time but it would imply, past can be changed since it can be linked to future.

    • @noneofyourbusiness5451
      @noneofyourbusiness5451 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In an atomic clock it would still effect the atoms of the clock and the period of oscillation
      you might even have a doppler effect as movement through space is going to blue shift the oscillations in the direction of travel and red shift the oscillations in the direction the clock is moving from
      if the detector is at a right angle to movement of the clock It shouldn't pick up a doppler shift
      But if the detector were placed in the line of travel it should be effected by doppler shift
      NOW if you had 2 detectors one in front and one behind you would be able to measure the doppler effect and it should concur with the speed of light
      At the quantum level nothing is continuous
      they can't tell if it's analog or digital but they have a measure of the smallest time frame anything occurs in
      so
      anything moving through space it isn't a homogenous continual movement
      it appears so because every particle has it's own moment it's period occurs in
      so instead of thinking of moving through space as a continuity think of it as a process of increasing and decreasing frame rates with no change in the image itself
      as you approach the speed of light your frame rates are going to compress on your advance and be spaced out more behind you
      you are probably also going to experience blue shift in one direction and red shift in the other.
      yeah your metabolism is going to slow down along with the movement of the particles that make you up and you are not going to age as fast as someone on the ground
      but "time" isn't going to change for you.
      you are still in the same now as the guy on the ground.
      your physics are just functioning differently due to transiting the ether.
      Now this leads to a novel experiment...
      the question if your consciousness is because of your biology or because of a divine spirit
      the supernatural (if it exists) exists outside of the natural
      If you have a component of your consciousness that exists outside of the natural in the supernatural then you should be able to observe a difference between biological time and spiritual timelessness.
      someone who cannot handle contemplating the supernatural would say as your brain slows down you could not perceive yourself slowing down
      but from the supernatural perspective you SHOULD be able to discern your body and your thoughts slowing down.
      there would be some spiritual sensation of lag.
      extremely fast travel might have some spiritual ramifications for some people.

    The illusion of 'time' - past, present, future, the key to accessing such, consciousness, via the mind. Everything is energy, frequency, which cannot be destroyed. Extrapolate from this - no such state as 'death', one step further, other incarnations offers the probability of being born into what we perceive as past and future timelines.

  • @simimy97
    @simimy97 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    There is no time. There only is the speed of passing the time relative to. The only "time" that exists can be considered archived in a single frame/moment that is not relative to anything is the existance of present, future and past at the same time. And that is a moment relative to nothing that contains all moments relative to everything.

    I already believed future past and present exist together. I mean future exists just like present. Think of this as a thought experiment-
    You can communicate with yourself in the future at this present moment. It's only that it won't be a material talk. Now, imagine that you are talking to your future self right now. Suppose for simplicity, tomorrow and also think of the time. And at same time, say to yourself(present) that you are going to reply to your present self when you are in that time you thought of in the future. So somewhere in some timeline, your future self will actually be replying to you at the present moment to your present self.
    It may seem absurd but it is true I think.
    And when you are in the future, I mean when you are at the time you thought of just reply back to yourself in the past. Because in the past you are talking to yourself in the future. This is that future which is 'now' your present. And that is that past which 'was' your present. And all these three - present, past and future exist at the same time.
    Don't go nuts, it's just a thought.
    Nevertheless, they explained beautifully in this video.

    Could this mean that the reason we can’t find life on distant planets, is because when we observe them we’re observing a different now from that with which alien civilizations would be present on those planets? Could we be looking at the past and/or future of these planets? Rather than the “now slice” that actually contains life?

There could be no point of reference because a person would be moving so fast away from that point they wouldn't even see it let alone witness being at the speed of light. If a person were to be moving towards something at the speed of light would one even be able to determine how fast they were moving? Probably not. We don't have any true instruments to measure such an event. I agree we would be nonexistent with witness around us because they would not be moving at the same speed if they were in the same place stationary next to us as we passed bye, lol.

People often think the way they perceive time is objectively correct, but that's just the rate they perceive information. For example; A dog perceives time around 25% slower than we do. If our perception of time was objectively correct then we would all perceive time at the same rate. Past, present and future all exist as one, we just don't experience it that way. Our lives mainly consist of us trying to compose an understanding out of the world around us.

If alien is traveling at what is currently considered to be a realistic speed toward us but far enough away to be significant, do the calcs show him seeing something happen before the "us" in the same time slice as him perceived it?

    Here's the theory that's gonna blow your mind:
    Have you guys ever heard of "Cyclic Universe" theory which says our universe has been infinitely recycled over and over again (Big Bang --> expanding universe --> contracting universe --> Big Cruch --> Big Bang again --> new universe --> so on).
    Who knows after the new Bing Bang, all the things that ever happened in previous universe will happen again exactly the same way in the new universe...
    Who knows there will be the same you (maybe slightly different) doing the exact same things (maybe slightly differently) in the next universe.
    And who knows when we die in this current universe...we'll actually feel like waking up in the next universe as the same new-born baby as we were in this universe. (We actually have to wait trilion years for the new universe to come & to be born again...but we won't feel it coz when we die it might feel like deep sleep) #MINDBLOWING
    And during that trilion years of waiting, our body (our matter) & our energy will always be converted into something/someone else until this universe contracts and ends up with the new universe.
    any thoughts on this? ^_^

    Adding my two cents I would have to ask - isn't our concept of time based on our rotation and orbit around our own sun? So in the alien example - our perception of time would require the alien's planet and position in it's solar system (assuming there was one) to be relative to ours? Or would we base the findings using our own concept of time?

    I feel like this would also have to include the different distance from person to person or being to being because if I am sitting still and someone is walking, our "now" is different due to the statement of "motion slows the passage of time." Going back to the alien biking away from earth, his "now" is different and his now are things that happened in the "past" that happened on Earth, but biking in the direction of Earth, meant his "now" was going forward, towards the "future." So what this tells me is that distance and direction, depending on which "reality" (assuming there are different lifeforms and which ones you are using) also plays a factor in how each individual person perceives spacetime. So my bottomline questions are, who's/what distance is being used to determine the current "now," and if motion slows down the passage of "time," would speeding up cause "time" to go "faster?" As well as has the question of "why does motion slow the passage of time?"

  • @MrMinecrafter49
    @MrMinecrafter49 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    im confused so if moving small distances distorts time so much when extremely far apart then wouldn't planets moving very fast on the far side of the universe be constantly shifting billions and trillions of years into the past and future in a very small amount time in our now? and wouldn't we be able to detect something like that if that is the case?

    • @enderyu
      @enderyu 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it is not constantly shifting, it is shifted by maybe some thousand years, but if the planet does not accelerate towards or away from earth, there is no shift, therefore, if it is ,say, 10 years ahead of our "now", then it will still be 10 years ahead after as many years as you want

If reincarnation really exists, are we living our past, present and future lives at the same time? Where is "past" actually happening? Or "future"?

      No, we can't go back to our past. But we can slow time for ourselves and live longer relative to others. However, from our perspective, nothing will change. I'm not saying "time doesn't exist", however i do have a question:
    If we're limited by the speed of light, wouldn't you think that "present time" or "real time" or "now" just doesn't make sense?
    Since "we" claim that nothing travels faster than the speed of light and our brain is an electrochemical "device" by the time you form a tought, it will be already history......
    This is what bothers me lately.

    • @axypolyas

      Thank you for all your efforts, but i knew all this, that's why i have the question.
      I have something to say to you, ask you. Therefore i'm typing with my fingers using a few muscles in my body to allow my toughts to reach you on your screen sometime. The toughts i am to write down are formed or created in my brain. By the time i form a tought is it already past then? I'm not investigating how much time goes by when a light source or a reflection reaches my eyes, then goes through my nervous system to reach the proper regions of my brain. And i'm not investigating how much tim goes by till i have my toughts on the screen.
      I'm having trouble understandig how this works the other way around. If we're limited by the speed of light........ one of the 2 is untrue.
      Your toughts are created in the "now" and the limits of the speed of light doesn't exist
      OR we always live in the past all of our toughts are formed before we acknowledge them.... and we're limited by the speed of light.
      This is because our brains using electricity to work. What do you think?

    • @_paralaks_
      @_paralaks_  8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

We can quantify it; however, in essence, what is it? we have no idea. And energy takes different forms: like elementary particles, which in turn become atoms, molecules and part of the end result is "us". We know energy is governed by laws and constants which naturally takes us to the inevitable conclusion: we are governed by those constants and laws. Before discovery of quantum physics, this would mean we are completely deterministic objects. Quantum physics showed us that we are not 100% deterministic. We are limited by laws but still we are unpredictable (we can calculate probabilities of what we might do next but we don't know what we will do next until we do it). What does all these mean for us? Who are we? or what are we? Why do atoms and molecules pile up and make us? To live longer? All the atoms in our bodies are almost 15 billions of years old. What we call life is just another state in which they continue existing... nothing more and nothing special about it. How can we make sense of all these? Can we make sense of all these? If we are only, and only, condensed energy, then there is no such a thing as making sense of things. There is only energy going through one state to another state "mindlessly". Pretty scary and dark explanation of our existence, is the pure scientific one.
      Science is only a tool, only a methodology we use to "make sense" of universe. It does not tell us why things are the way they are. It tells us how we can construct theories and how we can use methods to test them, so that we can do all these in an objective way. Science is an extremely limited way of looking into existence. Are my feelings objective? No. Are they scientific? No. Or, should I greet my neighbor every morning? Should I have an extra spoon of ice cream today? Or why do we do science? Do we have to do science? Say for our survival? Our survival has no meaning given particles making up our physical bodies existed for billions of years and they will continue to exist, perhaps longer.
      I will jump to my personal understanding rather than "destroying ourselves" using science. To me, existence of The Creator makes more sense than anything else, including my own existence. The Creator who logically must be (and interestingly described as such in Islam which I have chosen as a path to follow) All-Knowing, All-Powerful, capable of creating a free agent (my soul for example) with life, creating a universe in which those free agents can grow up, examine, study, learn, make sense of it freely; is the only logical answer I can think of. We don't see the Creator, or souls, or anything which would "force" us to believe and accept. He made us free to choose and as part of making that choice freely, we will always be bothered by our existence, but we will never find an answer.

    • @axypolyas

      *****
      Thank you for your comment!
      Looks like except for the Creator we're in the same boat. And this is why i'm bothered by these.... i can't understand why the "big brains", professors, smart people can't see further than they nose and deny everything that they can't answer immediately. Ego slowly destroys us yet we'd be capable to rise above ourselves faster than ever before. And this is not happening. And this is my problem. When you're trying to make a point, the so called (by themselves) "highly educated people" try to tear you apart, instead of thinking about the fact that you're alike and you have something to discuss perhaps for a reason. Not knowng who you are and what you know.... They go into self defense mode because you bring something up that makes sense but it's "magic" so they can't comment. Instead they'd burn you for witchery right that moment. ;)
      Or, the other scenario is that i'm gone mad for good. But i don't think that's the case.....
      I have a some good people around me, they'd also tell me :)
      As for the Creator, i'm still looking for an explanation... I don't think that there's such thing as one "superior being". I think it's something in all of us. But it's "magic". So there's a catch 22 in this world at the moment.
      But we've drifted away from the original question by a notch i think..... it might will have cosequences...
      Peace!

    • @_paralaks_
      @_paralaks_  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** Big brains and biggest scientists like Newton, Einstein, Ibn al-Haytham etc. were all believers in the unseen, unknown; they were fascinated by the harmony that they tried to explain. It has always been like that.
      "Every serious and reflective person realizes, I think, that the religious element in his nature must be recognized and cultivated if all the powers of the human soul are to act together in perfect balance and harmony. And, indeed, it was not by any accident that the greatest thinkers of all ages were also deeply religious souls, even though they made no public show of their religious feeling."
      -- Max Planck (he is a very important physicists if you haven't heard of him yet).
      On the other hand, whatever you say about those big brains, professors, smart people is actually valid for you. From my perspective, I don't understand why you can not grasp all existence can happen either by a) someone who made it or b) a totally random process.
      For case b, if everything was random (totally random it means), then simultaneous construction and destruction would take place all the time. A planet would pop-into existence out of nothing for no reason; totally random. Then at the same time, half of planet earth would pop-out of existence, back to nothingness, for no reason. In such universe nothing could survive. Nothing would exist long enough to produce life. So randomness is not an option for existence. Then it must be a. That is the rational, logical explanation.
      I think you will enjoy this documentary. The scientist you will see is quite the opposite of so called big brains you mentioned. "What We Still Don't Know: Are We Real?" th-cam.com/video/oyH2D4-tzfM/w-d-xo.html

    Anyone remember Mr. Rogers fantasy land segment with the clock with no hour, minute or second hands ?!
    A Russian monk once explained how to develop a sense of timelessness . For example , in my free time i am working on making a model(of whatever it was, i forget) out of small wooden pieces . During that time i take of my watch and have no clocks to look at . This doing things or just thinking is vital to reduce stress of following the passage of time .
    I personally am retired . I don't have a clock in my home . Even in my laptop i hide the clock in the left hand lower corner . And I turn of my cell phone . This feeling of being off the treadmill of time is a wonderful feeling . I often feel this sensation when i wake up in the wee hours . I have such positive or creative ideas and so on. One advantage is that it is dark outside and you don't notice the shortening or lengthening of shadows of the sun with the movement of the earth around the sun . cloudy days are cool in this way too . In summer being outside on a sunny day at noon also makes you forget about the ticking of the clock
    If i need to make an appointment on the same day i set an alarm on a portable time piece in my pocket or in the house on a loud alarm clock turned to the wall . I set it 2 hours before i have to be somewhere

      Universe itself is history...whatever you're seeing in the space using a telescope or through naked eyes is actually the past.....this happens due to the limited speed of light which is a pathetic speed in the comparison of the universe....for example let's say the polarish star (pole star) which is 433 lightyears away from earth...if an event occurred at the star at the ''now moment'' like it collide with other star,supernova or it explodes....we will get to know about that event after 433 years....so the pole star we were watching at night is actually its past....the hubble space telescope can see upto 15 billion light years which means it can also see the events that occurred 15 billion years ago..
