    Law firms often take on cases "pro bono" which is free for the clients. There is an expectation that large firms must take on a certain number of "pro bono" cases a year as part of being a responsible firm

    aside from Sara of The glory appearing on this episode, the child actor who plays as the daughter of Park yeonjin is also playing as the young Woo young woo 😎

  • @rhubarbs
    @rhubarbs ปีที่แล้ว +67

    FYI about the whole clan preferential treatment, in Korea since there’s only few common names shared across the whole population with Kim, Lee, Park being really common. They differentiate among themselves using clan name + place of origin (eg: Andong Kim vs Gwangsan Kim). This indicate shared paternal ancestor and avoid marrying within the same clan. I think it also plays a role in hierarchy, a 26 y/o female might be the Great Aunt to a 45 y/o male and she has to be treated as his elder.

      Shows difference in culture. As a Filipino, things in k drama like wives being abused by their husbands and still staying is easy for me to understand and can relate to in some level.

    • @EscargoTouChaud
      @EscargoTouChaud ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@Jack-pl1bz In some cases, culture hac little to do with it. Sociopaths and narcissists often have few problems getting a partner because they're experts at charm and lovebombing at first. I'm from one of the most gender equal, democratic countries in the world, and yet got caught in an abusive relationship. I don't have a low intelligence or even bad self-esteem, but I had no training or experience in how to handle this type of person.

      It's the kind of thing that's hard to understand unless, you've been in a similar situation. it's the whole when being a star vs seeing a far away constellation this. It's impossible to be objective when you're in the situation and people not involved can see all the steps you should take but are utterly lost on how to help you actually do it cus they've just never been in that position. In fact, even when you've been there and escaped, it's hard to understand how to help others.

    • @catewright1575
      @catewright1575 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      It's not really to show they care about cluents, it's to make the firm look better. Besides being about the money and working for high dollar cases, helping poor clients now and then helps their reputation in the public eye.

    • @fordhouse8b
      @fordhouse8b ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Pro Bono is shortened form of the Latin phrase Pro Bono Publico, For the Public Good.

    • @sleepytoons2155
      @sleepytoons2155 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@catewright1575 i think that’s basically what they meant tho. Not that companies actually care about all their clients but to make it SEEM like they care, thus making them look better.
      It’s the same as bigger companies/celebs sponsoring charity events to “show they care”. Obviously that’s not usually the case but it helps their public perception and especially gets sympathetic ppl to buy into whatever they’re doing. “Show they care” or “Show their support” doesn’t mean they actually care. So u and the original commenter are basically on the same wave length, just worded differently

    public case
    to protect the poor, some lawyers take on the cases for poor people, free of charge
    i think it's something like playing violin on christmas season at the old men's house. some students do it to make their academic record/school resume look good, others do it because they really wanted to help the old people
    in this sceneario, that north korean defactor was really lucky, i think
    if you watch some other k-movies like "miracle in cell no 7", you will find some sxxt lawyer doing the public case badly coz it doesn't bring him much money
    also, that man shouting at the dinner table was furious coz he knows that the company won't get a cent even if they win, but ended up losing rich clients like "the glorious doctors of justice and freedom" or something like that
    oh, btw, "miracle in cell no.7" is recommandable. it's like a fairy tale for grown ups. i bet you'll cry at least once. it's a beautiful movie, tho a bit childish 🧚‍♀️

    How the mom can afford Hanbada? In Korea the law firms can do public interest cases for people who cant afford lawyers. It is good for their reputation and profile, something like a social responsibility thing for their firm. They are not paid for it, thats why the other senior dude got mad because he lost the billions over this $0 money case.

    To ensure fairness and good corporate relationship with society they request Law firms to take "pro-bono" cases, on which they get "payed" by the goverment, as you can see the perception of an individual or companuy can affect decision in court. Basically because public defendants are very very scarse in Korea (the money vs Law firm salaries its ridiculus, and Korea is competitive as f)

    This is like in the States, where the lawyers can't just go and talk to a judge whose on their case. Really inappropriate. Also think the judge was inappropriate asking about the lawyers' families. Even though family is important in Korea, I wonder whether that would be something it was okay for the judge to do. (Judges here do a lot of inappropriate things too.)
