Hi Rachel! Love the natural beauty of Hawaii😃. I do miss your family boating videos from Cape Coral though….so inspirational. Will you be reposting them some time? Be well 😊

We are planning a trip to the Big Island and want to do this hike and camp. Is it safe to park your car at the trailhead? We aren't sure yet how we will get from the Airport to the Trailhead unless we rent one.

Hello, I use to live in Waipio for a time and I can tell you this. Don’t. I’d find a spot closer to honokaa that works and hitchhike to the trail. People are usually pretty nice about this sort of thing.

It shows online now that the campground is closed. Were you able to camp with no issues during covid?

So awesome! You guys inspired me to do it with my kids now. But they are 15 and 16. They can carry their own weight. What time of year was this?

that's awesome! we went in october and lucked out with no rain and good conditions. i would suggest summer! or during a time you know the weather will be nice.

Really bad idea to drink the water without treating it. I caught Leptospirosis drinking the waterfall water in Waimanu and literally almost died. If not for the seldom seen military helicopter that happened to fly over and land(!), I would not be here. First night in Hilo hospital was touch and go.

Tough trip family, 45 years since, loved the experience. My grown children still visit the mana there, although they have access by sea now, occasionally they do the walk.Enjoy its existence and give care. B. C. Big Island

Spent 3 months in Waimanu 47 years ago. Been back since; really want to go again. Have a home now down toward Hilo in Pepeekeo.

Bad idea! I would do it little kids….don’t do this just just because they did…I’d choose a more family friendly trail…this is steep and only Jeep’s can go all the way down to the valley…nope not for toddlers…I don’t think these people research it before they went

You have an amazingly beautiful family! You look like a fake polo catalogue family! (Total compliment not an insult) so my question is, we are not as capable at outdoorsy stuff as you guys, so would a hike just down to the valley from the lookout and walk around the beach there be worth it? And hopefully it can be done in less than a half a day?

Try taking a surf board. I think it might be harder than taking 3 kids. I won't be doing that again, ever
