Love the finished product! I did have a question; what's the purpose of installing the 1x2 shelf and then placing the 1x3 stained pine on top of it? Is it simply for stability? Cheers!
If you just place the battens on the plane wall it just doesn’t look real without the “board” and the overhang towards the baseboards dude no… and bare wires if you would have done a real board and batten you could have hidden the wires behind it … this is a pretty sad job …
Great job... Be great to pull some power to hide the wiring for the lights. Super easy and then it's a bit more sleek. Just a thought. Glad I found this channel, sir. 🙏🏾
I think 1 inch. If you are trying to put a bunch of heavy things on it I would use some screws into the studs instead of just brad nails. But the thickness should be fine the way it is.

Ya exactly. That and for aesthetics.

It’s only sad if it’s your house 😂 Worked for us!

Ya was definitely thinking about doing that! 🙌🙌
Hello! Love the look! Is the board the on top of the verticals also a 1x4? It’s looks bigger in the video but it could be my eyes deceiving me!
I believe so!
How do you attach the shelf at the top please? I can’t get my Brad nailer in close enough…. My shaker panelling underneath is only 9mm thick
I have another one inch trim on top of the paneling. That’s what the shelf is sitting on.
Very good - well done. Psyche aka Psyche Thompson UK 🌹
That’s tricky
@@humediy I don't understand. Do you mean the job you did was difficult? If so it came out very well in my opinion.
Nice
Thanks
So, as illustrated in the math example, your battens were 24 inches apart? That's wider than others I've seen, but it looks good
18 on center, just checked!
@@humediy ah, very good! Thanks. New subscriber
what paint finish did you use?? flat? satin? gloss?
Flat. Satin on doors.
what color is the paint?
jasper - I think it's from lowes. But not positive.
How thick is the board? Does it need to be a certain thickness to be strong for the shelf?

@@humediy so you just brad nailed straight down into the MDF below? It hasn't pulled off the wall at all over time?
@@iamagad nope not at all. We only put pictures frames on the shelf though
The 1x boards are actual 3/4" thick. But he's not using MDF, he's using pine, which is sturdier
that bed! ruins the whole look dude.
Send me 5k and I’ll fix it 😂😂
I think it looks good lol!
