We live in a oil service area, and business owners are often called blue collar millionaires. If you see a jean/tshirt guy meeting with two suits, that's the owner meeting with his accountant and lawyer.

Same. We live in Texas and have had our business that is heavily involved in oil and gas. We have a nice ranch and a beautiful home on it. We make a lot of money, but if you see us in town, you'd never know it. My parents started the business in the early 1980s, and then we bought them out. As it is in the oil industry, we've had peaks and valleys, but we rarely splurge during the peaks. Our big splurge last year was a 2020 Newmar King Aire as we love to travel.

      Everyone's priorities are different.
My sister goes on vacations, likes to go shopping, get nails and hair done, and throw a fancy party once a year.
I'm very minimalist, and prefer to spend on my health, gifts, charity, hobbies, and save as much as possible. It makes me feel good to have a cushion in the bank.
But those are my personal priorities.
My brother spends their $ on starting up small businesses. Everyone is different. We shouldn't resent ppl for their savings or their outward lifestyle as long as it's not hurting us, they're welcome to use their $ as they see fit in life.

We worked on building his new home......5 million dollar home. He payed it off in 5 years ! To see him you would NEVER believe he was worth that much. I asked him why he went into anesthesia, after spending 6 years becoming a physician, ( another 5 years to become an anesthesiologist)..... he said " because I can wear levies to work. Less than 10k. I have 2 vehicles that are over 10 years old, but I'm the only person who drives them and I take extremely good care of them, they are far from flashy but they get me anywhere I need to go. So... No rent, mortgage, car note, child support, or anything else I can't afford. I have everything I need tho. I hope to be a millionaire by the time I retire which hopefully I will be able to do in less than 10 years. Friends, family, coworkers, and even my neighbors ask me idiotic questions all the time, like why dont you get a newer vehicle? Why do you live in this neighborhood? Why are you not married, don't you want kids? These are the same people who are deep in debt, divorced, have children who don't even respect them, drive vehicles they can't afford etc. I love my life, I love going to bed and waking up knowing I don't anyone a damn thing, not even an explanation lol.

Almost to a fault they live in very expensive homes (usually one of several they own) that are looked after by staff, drive very expensive cars, one has a nanny who drives a Bentley because it's a safe vehicle to transport their children in for example. Quite a few own private jets, or a netjets share.
They don't think about flaunting their wealth, it's just the way they live their lives.

It amazes me how many goons THINK they have a real AMG 😂🤣. We have had many since the earky 90's and know the difference as a enthusiast and purest. Also some real M cars too. Those who are your target buyers are NOT those walking around with all the flash (logo clothing, huge logo purse, giant jewelry, over the top cars, etc). True wealth with deep pockets, is subtle and most of the time very understated. They favor clean lines, solid basics worn in a very tailored but low key way. Hand made shoes, fine not flashy jewelry. They are quiet, not loud and showy. Quaffed yet tousled. They have good skin, great teeth are rarely if ever impaired in public and usually very polite, soft spoken but generally not patient and don’t tolerate inattentiveness nor the uninformed.

We shared a car, shopped sales, etc. Our neighbors sold their home at the same time. They had owned their home much longer than we had. Their children all got new cars at 16, all wore designer clothes, all went to expensive schools. We made a lot of money on our sale (which we shared with our children, since they had all helped build sweat equity). Our fancy neighbors had "harvested" their equity and had to do a short sale.

Friend of mine lives in a small 2 bedroom cabin in stuttgart arkansas, drives a 15 year old truck, and honestly has very few possessions other than his guns and hunting gear. The place was built in the 50s with no insulation and is basically just a duck hunting cabin. You'd never know the dude is worth about 70 million. All his money goes right back into his business. The man is happy living simple and doesnt need to impress anyone. I pretty much follow a similair philosophy, hell, I still drive the truck i bought when I was 18 because it runs just fine. Im 42.

True. A millionaire visited the wearhouse I work in and besides having a jeep worth around 150K or so I couldn't guessed the guy had money. He wore regular jeans and a shirt and he talked and acted like anyone or maybe even closely to one of the wearhouse workers.
My point is the ones that actually have much money don't need to show them off. I think If you identify yourself with money then you will show off your money like the amount of money you have is the amount you are worth in society. But if you only see money as a means to live then showing off is not of your concern.
Also I think showing off depends somewhat on how you got rich.

It's so true 👍 💯 People show off so many things they haven't even paid for yet, they have it on credit, and swimming in debt. They are typically stressed out, depressed, and have sleepless nights wondering how they will pay for everything and have an underlying fear they will loose everything 🤦🏽‍♀️

My friends and mentors will seven figure net worths (from $2 million to $9 million) don’t look any different from the average American. Except when they pay cash for a new car 😊. They intentionally look poor, and aggressively buy income producing investments/assets.

When you see an already expensive car off the factory line, but the person put very expensive rims on it for no reason, he's very broke. It's a compensation maneuver.

The millionaires I have business dealings. are old school, humble and polite. Cell phones are filled with business contacts and family. Nothing else. And post nothing on social media. Some of our best clients. Best part, extremely philanthropic. And eternally grateful for everything they taught me.

It’s true. I work in the lending industry and people who make $30k+ a month or more are always taking out a 2nd mortgage to consolidate debt.
My BIL is a franchise owner, and while he brings in quite a bit of money each month, he dresses posh, has a snobby attitude, upgrades his vehicles every couple years, goes on 4+ vacations a year…etc, he’s also at least $2 million in debt.

  • @BM-pg3bg

Yeah I learned that from my parents. Both self made and we’re pulling in 200k plus together by the time I was 10. Never been abroad. Most expensive vacation was a cruise to the Bahamas. I would always be mad we didn’t have super fancy stuff.
That’s until I took financial literacy courses. The reason we never had fancy stuff was because we really didn’t have the money for it. 401k, college funds for 3 kids, 20 year mortgage.
Theyre split now but they’ll retire each with around $2 million and 2 houses not in debt.

Tell that to my husband who is impressed by fancy cars, brand clothes and looking “fly!” He grew up in a poor country where luxuries were lacking and has NO concept of money now. He sees tourists visit his country and assumes they are wealthy because they come and stay at fancy hotels and do expensive excursions, not realizing that some of these people saved for YEARS for that vacation or have put it on a credit card and will pay it off for years.
