  • Hike to Twisp Pass located at the Chelan Sawtooth Wilderness and North Cascade National Park boundary. This hike was filled me with wildflowers and a sense of solitude. The beginning of the hike passes through a burn zone but once you cross the bridge the views of distant mountain peaks abound.

    We did this a few weeks ago and it was spectacular! Unfortunately, there was a 50k race that weekend so didn’t get to shoot much of the rest of the hike. I wish we had 3 days in this trip to summit a 2 or 3 of the WA Bulger list right in the sawtooth loop. Great vid as always!

    My wife and I did that beautiful hike about 40 years ago. Happily, we had our mosquito head nets, as the area around the pass was thick with them. Views are still the same, I see.

      Hi Lee, how funny. That area hasn't changed much because the mosquitos were pretty bad at the pass. Fortunately, I went ahead a little bit where there was a breeze so I could eat my lunch in peace! All in all a beautiful place though. Thanks for the comment.

      @@cascadiahiking You're probably aware that one can angle up and west from the pass to Stiletto Lake, which is a spectacularly scenic spot. Even way back in the day, there was a pretty fair boot track to it. From what I've seen on TH-cam, it's a bit more heavily travelled these days (what isn't?). From the lake, it's fairly straightforward getting to the old lookout site at the west end of the ridge, if you're so inclined. The whole area is at its best in the fall, when the larches are glowing gold. Makes a great two night backpack, in good weather, of course.

      @@leestamm3187 Thanks for the tip as I forgot about Stiletto. Pics of it look pretty amazing, I agree, fall would be a great time to visit that area when the Larches turn gold. I plan to go back to that area and spend a couple more days exploring. Cheers!

    Is it possible to camp here and if so, do I need a permit?

    • @cascadiahiking
      @cascadiahiking  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question. Short answer is yes. Twisp Pass itself is on the boundary of the National Forest and North Cascades National Park. On the National Forest side it's just a trailhead permit (easy). If you continue past the pass (for example to Stiletto Lake) then you are in NCNP. You will need a national park wilderness permit to camp. I would think it's much easier to get a permit for this area of the park since it's not as busy as other areas. Hope that helps.

      @@cascadiahiking another question, is a trailhead permit something you can get at the trailhead?

    • @cascadiahiking

      @@VinWeston89Hi James. Yes, you just fill out the tag at the trailhead, detach part of the tag in the provided box, and attach the rest of the tag to your backpack. Cheers!
