Do you think that the coronavirus crisis has shown that the state does have the option of restricting the fundamental rights of individuals if the state deems an emergency situation to exist? In other words, the state theoretically always has the opportunity to disregard the basic principles of liberalism. And because it theoretically always has the chance, we theoretically do not live in a liberal order. Is that the right way to understand it?

Any state always ‘theoretically’ has the option to impose force. After all they have the force, so they can exercise it. The point I think we ought to draw from the lockdowns is that people don’t have to tolerate it. Culture is ‘live’ and it’s the responsibility of individual citizens to continuously act in the reaffirm ethical action.
