- In this episode of BlacktipH, I go fishing for Striped Bass near the Statue of Liberty by Manhattan, New York City. We were bottom fishing with live bunker, aka menhaden, where the Hudson River and East River meet the ocean. I had no idea that you could catch these big fish right by New York City!

Thought the stripers moved out already and are ending south. I went up there 2 weeks ago and didn’t get anything and the locals all said the best fishing has passed.

Striped bass fishing is awesome that’s one of the things I miss about Jersey . Working bunker schools at first light right to the beach or surf casting for them is awesome . Only thing that sucks is the cold weather

Josh should come up during spring trophy season and catch the 50" fish in the Chesapeake. He had a taste of huge Red Drum in Va. Another great trip would be to come up for 100lb. Black Drum near Cape Charles. In May when they come up.

I work at the Statue of Liberty (my boat was the one you showed Statue Cruises) and Im almost certain we saw you guys out there that day! Had no idea it was you obviously, but we saw the camera and bunch of guys fishing!

As a New Yawker.. this is our premiere game fish, compared to Amberjacks, Josh is probably thinking this is nothing.
You should come back to the New York area in April when tons of Monster Stripers come up the Hudson River to spawn. Especially near West Point/ Mid-Hudson Valley area of the river.
NYC has some good fishing! I slammed black seabass in the East River from the esplinade and bluegill fishing in central park was great!
Nice catches, back in the 70s me and my dad always wanted to go fishing in the Hudson, but we thought what's the point it's too risky to keep with all that mercury and garbage in the water. The joy of catch and release is awesome and a good sport but to us were out there for keepers.
You should get out to the triple wrecks about 70-80 miles offshore from nyc they are hammering yellowfin right now

Striped bass are so fun to catch. My dad and I went to catch them and slayed them. I caught the biggest one at 20 pounds
Largest striper I've ever caught was 46 inches. I was 10 years old, and my dad had to hold me on the boat while I struggled. Truly an awesome fish

You should do a episode in lk cumberland KY for stripes, and a lot of good all around species hook sets. Its beautiful there. We go every year its a amazing place. Biggest stripes you will find out side open ocean water. Huge lk trout, cats, smallies also. Sturgeon starting to be a thing to. Endless channels and cove's to fish,its a pretty rad place. The history and way they made the lk is pretty interesting also. Rent a house boat and do a couple day trip with episodes each day.
I live in the area and fish that same body of water all the time. You HAVE to come in May for the spring run the stripers are up to 50 lbs. basically a striper feeding ground

Bro, I’m super surprised that you’ve never caught a striper. We don’t have too many super good fisheries up here on the Northern East Coast, and the striped bass is one of those consistent, close to land, and really good fisheries up here.

Try using fish finder rigs and next to Bayonne ( mot bay ) I have fished very close to were this video was filmed. The rocks around the statue are great to fish also. Great video thanks.
OH MY LORD! I was on a different boat fish in that same spot! But we were going for fluke on the boat “ The Prowler 5”. I caught a huge sea bass and three undersized fluke. It was my first time fishing out on the ocean.
