Thanks for doing this… I’m broke but I’m definitely going to do more once I’m back on track but thanks for the incredible knowledge I appreciate it so much
Great lesson Stitch! This is integral to David Gilmours style as well as playing melodically. The other big secret he has is manipulating rythm. He very often will change his rythm into triplets, play on the offbeats or play out of rythms entirely then flow back into it. Also his ending solo in the song "on the turning away" is arguably his most melodic and a great study. It's worth checking out!
'The Beard' has schooled his 'Grasshoppers' once again. Pinball analogy is perhaps the greatest teaching analogy ever (especially for those on the Autism spectrum)! Educational, concise and entertaining (trifecta!)...
Superb. IMO, these types of videos are SO much better than the typical videos teaching how to play a solo note-for-note -- sure, you'll learn to play THAT solo, but you won't learn WHY it works in the process. By contrast, students who follow your videos will become able to learn any solo on their own, by applying these analytical techniques that you use and explain. Bravo. I like the pinball analogy for hitting chord tones -- though I'd have thought you'd tie pinball into that OTHER British guitarist (Pete Townshend) rather than David Gilmour :-). And do I spy, with my little eye, a Neverlost Live Workshop binder on the piano behind you?
Got the chord charts with it, a great lesson , after seeing Gilmour live in 2016 I was stunned how he can do these solos without effort the best i can describe his playing live is honey rolling off a spoon, he takes you to different place, as for the lesson it's tricky I am still learning only 2 years in but I like to push and challenge myself as a way of learning, manipulation is key skill I really want to get under my belt, in my goal to improvise on the guitar, thanks Ian cheers Brian, :)
You're amazing! I was just thinking this morning, "Gee, I wish Stich would do more on Gilmour." Then I open up TH-cam, and... Damn, it's like you can read my mind. Are you reading my mind? Well, ignore all those thoughts about my second grade teacher. I mostly over that! ;-) Thanks for the great video.
many thanks for the lesson. u r an amazing teacher who uses simple English and simple musical language for novices like myself - really enjoyed that one - its about using the basics but using 'em well by understanding them and this is exactly what makes you great - RESPECT
Loved the lesson! I never tried to play this solo because in my mind it would be to difficult for me, but just by seeing this lesson and knowing the song and the solo by heart (from a lifetime of listening to it) I could kinda make it sound like the original. At least it gave me a starting point to look for the notes and the ideas (arpeggios) to cover some of the sounds. Thanks a bunch!
He plays by intuition, the digit counters fall, that Stich kid sure plays a mean pinball! Another great lesson, those chord tones are so tasty in the second part, that I understand all this in theory is encouraging!! Loving the tone you got too 😎
This should have a million likes. Great improv class. I learn a lot from you. Would you ever consider doing and inside the mind piece on Michael houser?
I have been playing for over 35 years.... self taught. I really dig your pinball analogy! I learned the Time solo last year (as close as I can get it!). Funny... that's how I played lead forever! You remind me of the long haired t-top trans am driving teacher I had at 15 years old for 2 months. He got fired for not following the Mel Bay Method. Instead, he taught me Rush! 2112!
Also.... I don't see this as an instructional video but an inspiring video! Cheèrs from an old fart who just started teaching myself lead 15 years ago! Thanks!
i'd say that f# minor pentatonic is a safe pick for the chord progression 'cause it is the relative minor of A and is conteined into the dorian mode of E
First like , though seems like missed the first comment ....was practicing Blues on your backing tracks when the bell rang !!! Thanks a ton for your videos ....they are amazing . Sorry for being greedy though ....would like to request a : In the mind of Gary Moore ( Loner ) . Thanks again .....Namaste from India !!
Ooooh, Congrats on the Aqua Epiphone Dot, Dave! I've been ignoring my selfish want for a dot ever since I saw Johnathan Long rocking a vintage Gibson 330. 🤤
Another great one! My favorite series anymore, hands down. You GOTTA do Ride On! I gotta know how he's chases tbose fifths thru the major and minor. I dont wanna PLAY it, I wanna THINK it... Please?
Hey, this is off subject a bit... I was watching Richie Kotzen speak about using a C# scale (Natural minor?) to play leads that are in key wherever you play the scale. He compared it to the black keys on a piano keyboard. I didn't completely get it, I'm very familiar with neverlost now, it's it in that realm? Do you know what he's talking about? Cheers
Most youtube guys would would play a strat and a Twin. Here's my PRS with p90s (Hollow Body). BTW very helpful. I knew bending up to chord tones is the sound I'm hearing, but it's great to have someone show it.
I am now happily working my way through all of your videos. In one of your early Q&A's, you said "to be a good lead player, practice all of your chords". Could you please elaborate? Do you mean play the A major in all positions or all of the chords in the A major key or play all the extended shapes in one position or should it be multiple chords. I am new to this concept. Can you give couple of examples of practicing all your chords?
Yeah. Learn your chord scales. Leads are derived from the chord tones as well as modes that go along with each degree of that major scale. I don't think that answered your question. Lol
I've been listening to this album for 45 years. Not continuously... But it's practically spiritual to me. Us and them never fails to make my eyes well up. I picture those young men climbing out of the trenches and throwing their lives away against the opposition machine guns. For what? "God only knows it's not what we would choose, to do"
1) How much of Gilmour's technique do you think was an intentional pentatonic manipulation and how much do you think was muscle memory from "Crap! Wrong note! Bend up!" ? I'm very Gilmour-esque in my improv due to those last-minute bends. 😜 2) How has the looper pedal changed your teaching approach? I assume you WERE the looper for your students in the past, just playing a progression over and over again while they practice over it. Do you think a looper could be a crutch in any way? (I couldn't live without mine!)
Yeah it's one of those albums when you put something else on you just can't get into it no matter how much you love it. You gotta listen to dsotm till you just can't take it anymore.
I'm lovin' it...but, I have a bit of constructive criticism. I would have liked an F#m pentatonic as Gilmour instead of lumping all the lessons in one. It reminds me of my old teacher that gave me 5 new lessons in each session, and I would forget 4 of them. Hey, man, we have time! I was getting lost and it sounded great...
I am sorry about my post. I just watched the In the Mind of Stitch Interview and I am afraid my post may have "grinded your gears" by mentioning Sean's video. Apologies. Everything you do I love and I hope you didn't take offense. I was just very excited.
Iam a bit jealous. You make look easyyou sound great.🎸🎶🎵🎵 Me on the other hand i sound like that dog that got hit by a car🙉🙉🙉.thats before i switch on the🙉🙉 amp..

David Gilmours best solo imo. Every single note feels so right!
Emotion lvl 10000
Every solo David plays is his best solo!
Oh yes I agree.
My personal favorite
You are the best teacher of electric blues theory that I've seen. Thank you for your work.
As a layperson guitarist, Gilmore’s work on this album is one of the most expressive things I ever felt.
Gets me every time.
The pinball analogy is pure teaching brilliance.
Whoever said better to express than impress must love David he's so good never overplays or shows off technique just plays expressive great solos
The pinball machine might be my all time favorite Stich analogy
You have a gift for explaining and teaching. Thank you for all you do.
Perfect description of what any lead should sound like. Lead! Lead the listener to the next chord!
Great lesson Stitch! This is integral to David Gilmours style as well as playing melodically. The other big secret he has is manipulating rythm. There is no better teacher on TH-cam! Great lesson!
The pinball analogy is like the brick wall not lining up analogy are both brilliant and in my head forever
'The Beard' has schooled his 'Grasshoppers' once again. Pinball analogy is perhaps the greatest teaching analogy ever (especially for those on the Autism spectrum)! Educational, concise and entertaining (trifecta!)...
That pinball analogy is absolutely 👌🏾
That was freaking awesome! One of the greatest lessons I've ever had!

Great video... Even without a guitar in hand, I was able to learn something! Excellent breakdown of it.
I've only gotten to the pinball part of the explanation and I can already say.... Absolutely genius!
Thanks Stich. There is always something to learn from you!
many thanks for the lesson. u r an amazing teacher who uses simple English and simple musical language for novices like myself - really enjoyed that one - its about using the basics but using 'em well by understanding them and this is exactly what makes you great - RESPECT
Love your teaching style. You got it all together. Thank you for your dedication.
One of your best to date! Clear, concise, short and sweet. Outstanding!
Absolutely best guitar teacher in my opinion, thank you for all you do!
Hey, you are an incredible teacher.
Thanks for the awesome video. Learned a lot.
You are a awesome teacher and player. Thanks for your time my friend.
Loved the lesson!

U sir have a good week... Another seriously helpful lesson.. Thanks
The pinball analogy was great
Thankyou so much. This song is my favourite and got me playing guitar in the first place

Who plays by intuition ?
@@skatetodeath666 the pinball wizard..
Tim Williams There has to be a twist

Great vid Stich, love your - in the mind of series, please do more of them
Sweetwater is the best.
Yes! Thank you! Been waiting and hoping you'd do a video on Gilmour!
I have a Gilmour Vid on Comfortably Numb as well. Rock on
I guess Shine on you crazy diamond is next. The best song for sure ;) awesome video. Love you so much!
Love the pinball metaphor!!!
That was really awesome, quite helpful. I’m sorry I missed you live. Thanks for a great vid.
Pentatonic Riff Raff! Hellz yea! As always thanks for the free lessons and keep rockin!
Happiest fingers on the youtubes.

Thank you again!
You're a great teacher. Keep it up!
phenomenal tune , and so hard to get that tone right,,,, really good description, thanks
i'd say that f# minor pentatonic is a safe pick for the chord progression 'cause it is the relative minor of A and is conteined into the dorian mode of E
Dude! I get it! Thanks.
Thanks for the knowledge!
This is so helpful. Thanks 🤘
Great lesson stitch. I was down your way last week and bought a telecaster from Rick A - now you give me something to play on it.
What?! I wish I knew you were here!
Good luck with the seminar. Know it will be great.
Thanks.
Still lovin your content.

Leo Knightus well, I ain’t got a stray, and I ain’t got a twin. But I do got the lesson😬
How does Gilmour use rhythmic subdivisions to get the iconic vocal-like phrasing? Great video! Thanks
I’ll answer that question in my live feed👍

Asked and Answered in Learn Minor Chords All Over The Guitar Neck. Fast and Guaranteed! This is fun.
Yeah. Learn your chord scales. Leads are derived from the chord tones as well as modes that go along with each degree of that major scale. I don't think that answered your question. Lol
Great lesson, we’re not worthy

how do you get that unique Gilmour reverb sound on a budget, is there a specific foot pedal?

MaynardOwns, I agree.
Who is David Gilmour?
He played with Bowie.
Sean this guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about, Gilmour was a member of Gwar.
@@StichMethodGuitar That's right Gwar how could I forget but he started out in The Yardbirds I think.
Yes! That’s right a founding member of The Yardbirds, can’t believe I missed that. Any which way, he’s a pretty obscure dude.
I always dug his stuff with the monkees.. but he finally really hit it big as Taylor Swift's sideman so who knows where you might know him from..
