Some of the high ISO sample images I used in this video were shot in my recent video "ISO12800 Portrait With Olympus E-M1 Mark III" here: th-cam.com/video/DS51w0lvXj0/w-d-xo.html
Wow! Why didn’t I watch this when I got my EM1 mk2. Watched all the lens reviews, setup reviews etc, etc. Watching what you can do with this software is amazing. I’m away at the coast this weekend and I think I’ll have a raw plus jpeg weekend to see what results I can get. Thankyou Robin for all the videos, always great help and a source for inspiration 👍👍👍
thank you very much, Robin, for sharing your knowledge about Olympus Workspace! I downloaded it and I'm hoping to use it effectively with my newly bought E-M10 Mark III. I'm fairly a beginner so this journey with my first Olympus digital will be very interesting.
Hi Robin, I normally switch off when I get to post-processing videos but as I had to download Olympus Workspace to download some firmware for my new 100-400 'Beast' I persevered. Very interesting tips and it's so much easier when pitched at a reasonable pace that my 70 year old brain can handle. One lesson I learned over the weekend was a third thing that blurs images. I had been out the night before and was using very high ISO in a window-less room. I then forgot to normalise the ISO to 200 when the following day I went out in the good light of day. I found that when I focused on a landscape with lots of detail in the grass and brush things looked perfect but once I took the shot all of that detail merged into a slightly blurred shot. It took me ages to work out my mistake. Just telling the story here in case you think it worth using in future. Stay safe and keep these great videos coming. 👍👍👍
Great video, great glasses! I learned one or two nice tricks from this video. To put in my two cents: The color palette is available for older cameras, like my OM-D E-M10 MKII, after exporting to JPG image. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Robin. I'm on the point of going 'Pro' at Flickr, so any advice on good post-processing is very welcome in that context. I'm not going to pretend that I'll use every tip you demonstrated during the video, but I saw one or two that may come in handy.
Excelent excelent, excelent! Just loving it. This was what we wanted and you gave it. Thanks Robin. I do use olympus workspace, but really learned a lot with your video
Fantastic review thank you very much for such an in-depth explanation of Olympus Workspace. I think this programme will service me for quite some time, and it’s free. Keep up the good work. A.Phillips
Really great video and fascinating to watch. People are always keen to tell me about the limitations of Olympus cameras, but the results speak for themselves and your photos are some of the very best. It's easy to get lost in the hype around the tech, but the importance you place on the user and lens is all that matters. Fantastic!
In regard to the Milky Way photo at 27 minutes, I'm glad Robin you finally got a chance to see it. Where I live in the dry, light-free northern wilderness interior of North America, it's a common sight, especially on very cold, no moon mid-winter nights. I noticed in the close-ups that the motion of the stars is visible at a 25 second exposure. I recently photographed a halo around the moon at a two minute exposure, and the movement of the stars was large. The sky is turning above us at a rapid rate, but we're generally not conscious of that unless we see it in a photo. For a sharp image of the moon, the shutter speed has to be faster than 1/25th second. By the way, I love your macro photography. You get to do it year round, whereas our insect season lasts only half a year.
Thank you Master! You really are! I'm very new to this software, always using Elements, but to have a dedicated one specifically for my cameras its the most, I really learn a lot trough your video, now...practice! " let's do this..."
Thanks Robin. As someone whose got back into photography in the last year and trying to understand post processing through trial and error this was very useful. Usually my attention span is 10-15 mins for TH-cam videos but this was really informative. Thanks - tips like these are very useful.
Thank you for this Robin. I am quite proficient at PP, but have a friend who has invested in some great Olympus gear, but who has been intimidated about processing her very nice images and has not been doing so. I have been showing her how to improve her images with examples and encouraging her to do so. she said she has Workspace but has not used it This tutorial is perfect for her and I sent her the link. Thanks, for a friend...
Thanks Robin. Just to add, if you shoot some 4k video, the Olympus workspace has a great frame by frame function that allows you extract 8mp jpegs. I'm sure other software does this, but I haven't seen one that does it so easy
12:50 the image of the bird is sharp! I do have a question that the safety shutter is 1/320s since the focal length is 150mm but u using 1/40s and the image still sharp as well how u do that? 🧐
This was excellent--just what I needed. Thanks! I've been experimenting with all sorts of free or open source photo editing programs, and found them either much too complex or much too simple. Workspace is a good middle ground to learn on! I find the stamp clone tool rather awkward, though, and I sometimes want to use layers--but there are other programs for that. I also notice that there are more tools available for raw images than for jpegs. Guess I should start shooting in raw (once I upgrade the computer). However, I can adjust colour on a jpeg even though I have an EM10-II. (The manual isn't very good, either, so these videos are a great help.) I really appreciate your comment about camera discipline--some people brag that everything (except focus) can be set in post-processing, but my own limited experience is that you can't make a lousy photo look great. Every now and then, in discussions about whose equipment is better, someone invariably points out that the skill of the photographer makes a huge difference! Thanks for sharing your skills.
I see what you mean Robin by trying harder with your camera and taking great images in raw, and spending less time editing. That can be a little boring for some (including me). Great advice and thank you 🙏. I will dream of taking photos as good as you though Robin, you give me inspiration , regards, John.
Nice video Robin. I wonder if you would share your opinion about the recent explosion of NR software when compared to OM's built in AI NR and noise filters.
Very useful video. Thanks a lot Robin! It is very nice from Olympus to include full and very capable raw converter. May be some people will find it lacking some features but it has two major advantages over other raw converter: support full capabilities of Olympus cameras such as HiRes shots and built in lens profiles for Olympus lenses. Yes, other raw converters has same features. I am using SilkyPix and love it but for example in order to convert 8mm Fisheye Pro shots to wide angle images Olympus Workspace is irreplaceable. If you just starting to learn how process raw images, this is excellent starting point and it is included with a camera!
Less is better - always the right way ... I just downloaded it and Remote a windows box from my Linux desktop. Works well! I agree 100%, using the camera is way more fun than post. Get the pic as good as possible in camera. Remember that biblical wisdom ... You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
Hi Robin, thanks a lot for introducing Olympus Workspace. I´ve worked since now with Luminar 4 and Luminar AI. But I think that I am going to work more with Olympus Workspace. It seems to be a quiet good workspace. Hope you are well. Stay healthy and best regards from Cologne!
That looks like great editing software for any Olympus user. I have been using Lightroom but am going to give this a try. Lightroom does not render images the best. I have seen this when I have used the free capture one for fuji. I imagine Olympus workspace renders the images much nicer than Lightroom as well. Thanks for sharing your beautiful images with us and the demo.
Happy to see that Olympus had software and it's capabilities only with small sensors camera itself does it's sharpening and noise reduction. Am I correct
Thanks a lot for this video. I have questions: 1) why the superfine jpeg exported from there is smaller than the super fine one generated in camera? Which one is better? 2) I have a £ 2500 MacBook Pro with dedicare graphic card, and this software is a lot slower than how I see in your video. It’s probably faster on windows and in your workstation, or I probably missed some settings (I only enabled to use the graphic card). Olympus develop it again, I thought from scratch to improve performances but I see not a lot has changed
It took me quite a while to see the benefits of Workspace, but once I did a side by side comparison of how various software deals with Olympus raw files, I can't be without it.
Thank you for this. I'm not a professional but an enthusiast photographer, and most of what I do is for me, so I do not make any money at it. Since my MAC upgraded to Catalina, my prints have suffered. I have LR, but I have Affinity, Apple Photos and Olympus Workspace. They all gave me bad results. I used to use Picassa, but it isn't upgradable and will not work with Catalina OS. Fortunately, I have other computers, and have not upgraded to Catalina on one. So I'm still using Picassa on that one, in order to get my projects done. BUT, I am looking for other options. (Getting away from the monthly LR fee is a bit of an attraction, although I do like what LR can do!) What you have done with Olympus Workspace has helped me tremendously. I know I will still have to make tests with computer (and Catalina OS) -- photo editor -- printer to see the results. That is time consuming, and slows down my projects. Again, thank you and I hope you do more of these on Workspace.
Everyone seems to be moving to these lightroomesque interfaces. I tried Workspace, coming from using Olympus Viewer and couldn't quite get used to it. One other problem I had was when I made adjustments, the preview would render in a lower resolution so I could not really see the fine details anymore. As I had to learn new software anyway, I made the move to Corel Aftershot. Since I now use cameras from Olympus, Lumix and Canon, using one RAW application was an improvement for me.
Thank you Robin..Can you explain the significance of the two color ( white and green ) in the Live View Histogram in the Em 1 mii.. thank you... your tutorials are excellent help ... Mike
Robin this is an excellent video thank you. Can you maybe do a video on the live view histogram explaining the significance of the two colors that are used namely green and white and what exactly are they showing. When I use the The live view histogram, my resulting image Histogram, does not match the LIVE VIEW histogram that I had in the EVO AT THE TIME THAT I SHOT THE IMAGE.. I have tried to find the reason WHY the pre shot and post shot histograms don’t match and thus I don’t no whether they should and if so what adjustments the camera affords me to make them match. I have looked both in manuals and on line and have not been able to get an answer.... Thank you Mike
Thanks, Robin. I learned a lot. I usually take advantage of Workspace simply as a raw to TIFF converter. Then, I export to CS6 for editing. However, after I see what you are doing here, I will spend more time with some images, editing with Workspace. The program seems quite robust, and able to nicely edit most images that don't demand heavy lifting in post.
Hi Robin. Hello from France. Very interesting, but In my Olympus Workpace, i don't have Custon WB Option. Can you ask me why ? I take my pictures with my PenF. Thank you
Thank you, Robin. That was most helpful. I bought the first EM5 on your recommendation, still love it. I am using ON1 for additional processing, but very rarely feel the need. I am still not as good as the camera, so am fighting the urge to upgrade to EM5 iii!
Hello Robin, have seen your video on TV screen. Perhaps I missed it at viewing - but my question is: how to save the processed image from Olympus workspace (and transfer to SD-Card for print at shops)? I always used unprocessed JPEGS to print - sometimes only with processing in camera by artfilters or so. You see: I am an absolute beginner in using image processing, sorry, excuse me for this banal/trivial question...
Super interesting! Question for you Robin: What do you software/workflow do you recommend for someone who only has access to an iPad? I’m currently using Lightroom CC.
Hi Robin, Thanks for your videos and tutorials, one question about Olympus Workspace, in White Balance Tab, the only option I have is Custom WB, Nothing else is there, Do you know how I can add them to options? Many Thanks
Hi Robin, Thanks a lot for those advices. Do you know if the use of OW improve the quality of images taken by older cameras. In other words, does OW make better Jpegs from raw than those old bodies ? Best regards
Thanks for the video Robin however the reason I don't use it that much is that you don't exactly see the changes to your image quickly enough when using the sliders as highlighted by you when you were making any adjustments (the lag is really bad). This is where other editors win as you can see the effect of adjusting the sliders even by a small amount almost instantly. Hopefully Olympus will work on this issue in future releases?
Thanks a lot for this tutorial. I use it a lot. In case of local adjustments I use the NIK collection (also free, at least when I downloaded it) and voila: a combo of free and great post-processing software. Ideal for the beginner and intermediate photographer...
Hi. Thanks for your several expert Olympus gear reviews. I usually use (not much) the AC/DC editor but, recently, I wanted to try Workspace to play with color filtering tranforming an original image into different images with different colors. I made the changes I wanted in Workspace but then...how do I Save As the image? I was hoping I learn this is this review but I don't mention it. Please help if you can. Thank you
Hello Robin, first of all thank you for your videos, it helped me a lot. I'm an Olympus user from Germany and you sold me the brandnew EM1 Mark III. Today I tried the Workspace Software and I have a simple Question. Do I have to save each foto as an Export File, or can I save them at the end of a working Session? What means the Symbol of a flopy disc in the right corner? Thank you very much. Best regards from Germany. Matthias
Hi Robin! Olympus should release also de Linux version of Olympus Workspace. We are not all Windows users. I use RawTherapee to import the raw files as it suppots the ORF format and to apply wb, lens distortion and some other corrections and GIMP for more advanced processing. I would have preferred to be able to use the Olympus software.
I worked a little bit with Olympus workspace. It's very nice free software, the only problem for me is that is super super slow, it's at least 10 times slower than my Lightroom, that is already slow. It's not normal to need more than 30 seconds for 1:1 preview of a RAW file. I tried external RAW with E-M1 III and works great, but it's not normal to work with the camera as a GPU all the time. I hope Olympus will address that in future versions, but for now, it's a great to start.
Robin, let me first say thanks for having such a great channel! It is a must for every Olympus user! My problem with Workspace - I am using E-PL8 and when going into the Basic tab, the Adjust Color is dimmed and cannot be used. You mention that all models younger than Pen F have this feature. Can you clarify this? My second question is regarding the Histogram - Is there a way to see warning (usually in red or black) for over Shadows and Highlights, like in Lightroom or Capture One?

Hi Robin. I'm always stuck with the problem with the results edited image via Lr which give over sharp or image get look grain when preview. Please do give me a light. Thanks.
Hi! wonderful video...i am new to this and i am very confused as to why after i edit the photo on my desktop it does not seem to appear on my camera? i usually post on instagram via my phone (which i import photos from the OI share app) but after editing the photo from Olympus workspace...how can i get it on to my camera?! thank youuu
VERY GOOD(Olympus Workspace), MAY I KNOW ROBIN SIR, ITS ALL YOU TUBE VIDEO QUALITY YOU SHOOT IN OLYMPUS MICRO FOUR THIRDS BODY? AMAZING YOUR VIDEO QUALITY.
i have a question, i use this program recently because i bought a olympus camera. But it seems they removed a lot of functions from the program or can i get them back by changing certain settings? Thanks
Excellent tutorial as always. Given OW is slower (and much cheaper :-D), do you think in terms of image quality is better than Lightroom? I'm aware LR is much better in terms of classification, but I don't know what's the level in processing the image of OW. Thank you!
I bought the original EM1 when the Mark II came out and found the camera quite lacking compared to my Canon 5D MIV (but that’s neither here nor there). After watching your reviews of the EM1 MIII and reading articles, I bought the new body and love it! I normally use DXO to process my RAW into DNG, then fine tune in Lr. But they haven’t come out w modules yet for new EM1, which is why I downloaded Olympus Workspace. I learned several great lessons from your tips, but can you explain why refreshing images with my edits takes so long? It often takes 20+ seconds to see the changes I’ve made, which is maddening. I’m using an iMac with tons of RAM. My DXO and Lr don’t lag even when I’ve got other programs running. I’ve turned off most of the programs to see if OW will refresh faster, but I’ve seen no improvement. You can imagine how frustrating it is to have wait and wait to see if your choices were correct, etc. Your tutorial was so helpful (thank you), but can you think of why my OW is so slow?
OlympusWorkspace is not optimized enough for the moment, at Olympus, they are not aware of it, it's a shame, be careful also with the occupation of the disc by the caches etc ... it's really a shame that these points are not taken into account enough by software publishers ... and especially the most serious in my opinion, not enough documentation on this crutial point which is where the software will hide files .....
@@yac1066 Thx for your reply. On the topic of Olympus not alerting the purchasers to key things: 1) I had to think to go online to find a manual for my new body; the scant literature that came with it didn't direct me to the Olympus USA site for the PDF; 2) I also had to logically figure out that there must be a downloadable software for processing the ORF files because the literature never directed me to do that.
Hi Robin, Thank so much for this video; it really helps to see how a pro uses it and how much fun it is to use it. My question is what do you usually do when you need to use advanced techniques in Capture One software? Do you do basic editing in OWS and then transfer the results as TIFF or JPEG? Or is there a way to use the updates to ORF files done in OWS in Capture One where you continue your post processing when the need arises? Andre
Totally appreciate your video work Robin. Must ask if any of the Olympus capture or the workspace software is able to be used in the Mac OS ... I understand that the latest version of Mac OS Catalina only will support 16 bit programs and Olympus software is still 8 bit... ?
Sorry totally have my information wrong ... I don’t think Olympus has updated to 64 bit software compatibility for Mac Catalina yet .... please excuse my error
Hi. Thanks for this, great to get the hang of this. However, I seem to have version 1.1 which doesn't have some of these settings. What version of workspace is this and how do I get this version?
hi Robin, if i'm taking jpeg on my em10 MKii is that possible to make it also? by the way is there any tips on using RAW & JPG how to manage it? or just shoot RAW?
Some of the high ISO sample images I used in this video were shot in my recent video "ISO12800 Portrait With Olympus E-M1 Mark III" here: th-cam.com/video/DS51w0lvXj0/w-d-xo.html
that cooking analogy made a lot of sense! I will keep that in mind when I edit. Thanks Robin!
Wow! Why didn’t I watch this when I got my EM1 mk2. Watched all the lens reviews, setup reviews etc, etc.

Awesome Pictures and a nice explanation of how to do basic editing. Thank you!
Thank you for confirming the limits of the software for astrophotography. Still very impressive!

I see what you mean Robin by trying harder with your camera and taking great images in raw, and spending less time editing. That can be a little boring for some (including me). Thanks for your efforts.
Shooting discipline - critical focus accuracy and Olympus lenses. Don't settle for less.
Hi Robin
When adjusting photos and your happy with the adjustments how do you save the image.
Thank you very much Robin - world class explained
Excellent video, Robin! This will be of great help to people just starting out with any basic photo editor, but especially OW. Stay well.

For most basic needs the Olympus Workspace is more than good enough. And you take advantage of Olympus' great JPEG engine.
Many thanks! It seems to be the best editing program I've seen
Hi Robin. Hello from France. Very interesting, but In my Olympus Workpace, i don't have Custon WB Option. Can you ask me why ? I take my pictures with my PenF. Thank you
thank you for this Robin. Life saver!
Oooh, that Color Adjustment is quite powerful. Works for my E-M1 ii images!
This was really helpful. Thank you so much!
Many Thanks
Thanks heaps for this one. I’d given ow the cold shoulder but will be a bit more patient and work it out lol. Just wish it had masks and layers..
Hi Robin,
Thanks a lot for those advices.
Thanks for the video, it was very helpful.
Great tutorial, however, I am struggling with the slowness of this software in my mac
Thank you
Thanks - I learnt a lot from this.
Thanks, glad I could help.
AWESOME video, I just need one of your eyes now so I can manage this stuff :D
Very informative, Robin.
Cheers
Wonderful images and great tips, thank you
Thanks for a very good video, and excellent overview of the software
Thanks Robin, much appreciated!
Hi Robin. Am Hin from Penang. I just downloaded Olympus Workplace. I cant get the view page as the one u r use.
Thank you for this information
very good - but how do you save the image please
Robin, let me first say thanks for having such a great channel! It is a must for every Olympus user! My problem with Workspace - I am using E-PL8 and when going into the Basic tab, the Adjust Color is dimmed and cannot be used. You mention that all models younger than Pen F have this feature. Can you clarify this? My second question is regarding the Histogram - Is there a way to see warning (usually in red or black) for over Shadows and Highlights, like in Lightroom or Capture One?
Enjoyed that very much. Loved the salt & spice explanation for postprocessing. :-)

Hi Robin. I'm always stuck with the problem with the results edited image via Lr which give over sharp or image get look grain when preview. Please do give me a light. Thanks.
Hi! wonderful video...i am new to this and i am very confused as to why after i edit the photo on my desktop it does not seem to appear on my camera? i usually post on instagram via my phone (which i import photos from the OI share app) but after editing the photo from Olympus workspace...how can i get it on to my camera?! thank youuu
hi, is there a way for olympus workspace to blend images taken on exposure bracketing?
Hi, a simple question from Workspace beginner - what I have to do if the image is very underexposed, dark? How to easily make it much more lighter?
Can Olympus Workspace also edit photos taken by other camera brands, eg. Nikon & Sony ?
VERY GOOD(Olympus Workspace), MAY I KNOW ROBIN SIR, ITS ALL YOU TUBE VIDEO QUALITY YOU SHOOT IN OLYMPUS MICRO FOUR THIRDS BODY? AMAZING YOUR VIDEO QUALITY.
I just installed OM Workplace to process some pictures taken with my old Olympus E-420. But the Highlights & Shadows are greyed out. Why?
i have a question, i use this program recently because i bought a olympus camera. But it seems they removed a lot of functions from the program or can i get them back by changing certain settings? Thanks
Hi Robin, I would like to know if the capture one software is equivalent too or better then adobe ps?
Fantastic video Robin thankyou 😀
Hi Robin, Thank so much for this video; it really helps to see how a pro uses it and how much fun it is to use it. My question is what do you usually do when you need to use advanced techniques in Capture One software? Do you do basic editing in OWS and then transfer the results as TIFF or JPEG? Or is there a way to use the updates to ORF files done in OWS in Capture One where you continue your post processing when the need arises?
Andre
Hi Robin - would you be able to do a similar video for post processing with Capture One ? I’m getting this program free with my new Olympus camera 👍
You can basically still apply the exact same principles in Capture One, based on what I have adjusted in this video.
Hi, how do you do crop in this software, I did try to crop but I don't see how to finish the crop
So useful! Thanks Robin!
Totally appreciate your video work Robin. Must ask if any of the Olympus capture or the workspace software is able to be used in the Mac OS ... I understand that the latest version of Mac OS Catalina only will support 16 bit programs and Olympus software is still 8 bit... ?
Olympus Workspace is available for 64bit operating system environment.
Robin, really appreciate your answer to my question ... if you have a moment to add that this is a recent update (since Catalina)? Thanks
Sorry totally have my information wrong ... I don’t think Olympus has updated to 64 bit software compatibility for Mac Catalina yet .... please excuse my error
Great video, thanks!
Hi. Thanks for this, great to get the hang of this. However, I seem to have version 1.1 which doesn't have some of these settings. What version of workspace is this and how do I get this version?
You can updatebyour software to the newest version.
hi Robin, if i'm taking jpeg on my em10 MKii is that possible to make it also?
by the way is there any tips on using RAW & JPG how to manage it? or just shoot RAW?
