Adding my experience for the benefit of whoever reads it. Unfortunately, it'll always depend on the TSA agent. I traveled with my Leatherman Style PS over a dozen times and there was rarely an issue. I was stopped twice and after way too much fiddling with it, the agents let it through. A third time in JFK, however, three agents checked my stuff. One was patient, heard me out and saw that there was no knife, the other two literally yelled at him that it could not go through. He tried to explain it (I remained silent to not rile them up) and they went "NO NO NO IT DOESN'T MATTER, IT DOESN'T PASS!" and there went my discontinued TSA-compliant multitool. I carry tiny Knipex pliers and I've been stopped for them as well. They haven't taken it away because it's literally just pliers, but it goes to show how much it varies from agent to agent. Many are respectful and courteous, but some are assholes, some are exhausted and some are just clueless. Flying with a multitool is knowing you'll have to replace it at some point. Until they get discontinued... I'll have to fly with separate tools from now own.

I fully agree, unfortunately I mainly fly in ASIA, short trip very often only with handcarry, so no chance to check in my tools I would like to carry. I have the same Jetsetter as in the video for several years and so far quite lucky. But I always wait until they found it and than I explain that it is not a pocket knife, no blades. But I also agree that the configuration should be much more and better to use as multi tool. Hopefully their will be a new version.

That is one of the biggest problems with TSA. For 5 years, I traveled every week, and my load out was basically the same, yet my interactions with TSA were all over the place, and I had pre-check, and executive platinum.
I once spent 5 minutes explaining to a TSA agent that I was allowed to travel with a portable battery back. I once got a Gerber shard confiscated, jajajajaja.
There is zero consistency it is all arbitrary, and the agents have zero training.

Another good option for travelling is a Victorinox Swiss Card, I had one and I just took the knife out of card for a flight. There were no problems several time, but then, in Thailand on the control, when I said, there weee no knife there, they said: yes, but the scissors! So I lost scissors then, but still, it is easy to buy separate scissors and knife, well, may be so. The other case was at Astana airport, Kazakhstan, on a local flight I forgot to take out classic from a keychain. So the said I couldn’t take take it onboard, and I asked them to make it with all rules, like with the documents etc so I could pick it up another day. So they thought a while and said: ah, you may go. Lucky me but this was rather exception.

I think it’d be a good idea to have some kind of detachable blade, that way you can just detach the blade, and it becomes tsa compliant. Preferably something like x-acto blades since they’re fairly common.

I went through TSA with a Gerber Artifact with the X-acto blade removed, (forgot it was on my keychain until I had already checked my bag). The TSA agent had just had a training that mentioned them, but not that the blade was removable. He spent about 20 minutes trying to find the blade with another agent and a supervisor.

Hey nice to see that you got it through- i used to carry one with me on my flights. I am an airline pilot and I had carried this with me for years. Hey Marcus, just bought one for myself, for a work carry, and my 9y/o (as a first multitool, as you know Irish knife laws are stringent and depend on the Garda!).
I bought victorinox mini pens to see if i can jam them in the toothpick slot or find another was to include them, but thats definitely the big missing link!

What you need is the SwissCard Nail Care. It has most of the tools you mentioned with a larger nail file instead of a blade. It’s also supposedly TSA friendly. I haven’t taken one on a plane yet, but have read some threads online and not only has it gone through, but they didn’t even question it. So I think I’m going to try one next time. My concern with the Jetsetter is, as you say, the tools are pretty sparse but the fact that it looks like a knife, so TSA will say “it’s a knife” and I think you will always have to explain it, whereas the nail care SwissCard has a chance to slide right through with no hassle.

Something that gets overlooked is a TSA compliant Multi-tool. Leatherman and Gerber both had TSA compliant multi-tools that they discontinued. As a frequent flyer myself I wanted something more than the Victorinox Jetsetter (I wanted scissors and pliers) to carry so i modified a Gerber Dime by removing the blade. Later I found out that Kilimanjaro makes a TSA compliant tool, but have not traveled with it. For my money my modified Dime has everything I need all in the single tool.

For a mini travel SAK, I'd like a metal file (the type seen on the bigger models), flashlight, magnifying glass, scissors, Philips and flathead screwdrivers, digital clock with timer and alarm + world time function.
I guess with all of that, it'd not be so "mini" but I'd like to see them try it anyway. Maybe it'd be similar size to the mini champ.☺️
Wouldn't it be cool if they took custom orders like that? They'd probably double, maybe triple the price but I'd bet it would be a big hit! ☺️

I've had multiple experiences carrying a Victorinox pocket knife through airport security, full knife and all. The first few times, I got through no problems. Then eventually, one TSA checkpoint would only let me keep it if I let them break the knife off. They stuck it in between a crack on the floor, and broke the knife off. So now this just became my traveling pocket tool. But then I was traveling through Japan and they confiscated it, even though I explained to them that there was no knife. They said that the appearance of a knife is enough of a problem. I kept my tweezers and toothpick, though, since I'm always losing those...and promptly lost them.

Just posted this review to Tbilisi airport:
First airport in 10 years of travel that decided to make a problem out of my Swiss Card credit card size pocket tool with a less than 3 cm puny scissors and flimsy knife of also 3 cm. (And that is only because i lost the first one i had...)
Had to throw them away and now all I got left is the toothpick, needle, pinset and nailfile.
Rules change all the time and I might be in the wrong here, but at least on the pages of Norwegian airlines which is a major european airline states at moment of writing that blades less than 6 cm is OK.
    Security guys were polite enough.
Serving pegasus airlines which is all about cheap flights without checked in luggage this should be looked into.
    Edit:
We flew on to Istanbul for our nex flight, where in the shops in the tax free zone I saw for sale nail files that were of the same design as my little knife, 6 cm long, just a little bit less sharp but just as pointy...
