A good find, and at 200,000+ miles, it's just barely broken in. I drive heavy class 8 trucks like this for a living, and usually a truck with over 1,000,000 miles is when it needs some serious love. Good to know she is in a loving home now.

I'm from the UK but Knight Rider was huge here in the 80s. Me and my cousin were obsessed with it when we were kids. What you guys do is fascinating. It's great that you put so much energy and enthusiasm into keeping the Knight Rider story alive. Keep doing what you are doing

      b. get the computer running so you can export the data from its original environment.

Great find. During the 70s and 8os I was a Police Officer in Pontiac, Michigan. The GMC plant in Pontiac was where the GMC Generals and Astros were produced. They used to roll off the line drive across South Blvd. and be parked in the shipping company's lot. It was quit interesting to see. Later in my career I worked a case where 2 GMC Generals and 2 Astros were stolen right out of the plant. Pontiac Motor Division was also located in Pontiac but I am not sure at which assembly plant the KITT car was born. Often times when I worked at night I would see the prototype test cars being brought back to PMD from the GM proving grounds in Milford Michigan. At one time GM was responsible for over 40,000 direct jobs in Pontiac. Sadly, those days are now gone. Best of luck in your search for the trailer.

Everything was great! People were much healthier, smarter, and the federal government did nto try to micromanage absolutely everything. Today, the federal government is a dictatorship in comparison to what it was back then. I would gladly go back if it were possible. Nations did not try to run other nations. prices were realistic even given the inflation difference. People cared about their physical health. The internet was still military only and the World Wide Web did not exist. (that part has good and bad to it) You could be who you wanted to be without some idiot telling you how offended they are because you used a simple term like, "black coffee," or, "white bread." The engines were not as reliable. But the car designs were more beautiful, comfortable, and durable. Imagine a modern engine and transmission in a huge 1985 Fleetwood!

The habit of staying in top shape stayed with me and today I still look like a swimmer, albeit ugly from the neck up. I can do nothing about that. But the healthy habits I made as a kid have kept med extremely healthy today. Today, kids have an obesity problem at nine years old. By 18 they are morbidly obese. It is not only very aesthetically disgusting, it is extremely unhealthy. But they do not care in the slightest. As somebody that is trying to preserve the history of an automotive factory, my hats off to you. It takes a lot of work, money and drive. I know the drama too. In my case, I mostly failed and only saved two vehicles, two buses from this partocular factory. Neither were movie vehicles, although one was owned by a secret govt agency and transported foreigh dignitaries after the collapse of the USSR, as well as special forces in Afghanistan.

I worked in the Special Effects Steel Shop at Universal when Knightrider was shooting. We rigged the KITT car to have a hollow driver's seat so a stuntman could sit inside of it and make the car look driverless.. we worked on the semi trailer rigging the wenches that lowered the fake door down to allow KITT to drive up into it... The way trailers get beat on it’s entirely possible that trailer is scrap metal now. The mid 2000s is about 15 years ago and knowing that older trailers can have rot issues as well it might have been junked already. So here’s what possibly happened. The new owner removed the ramp and put it in service as a moving van. He probably used it till it wasn’t worth fixing and sold it to a scrapper ( a scrapper would have cut it up for the metal value) it might be rotting away in a salvage yard used for random storage. Or it might have ended up a tool trailer for a construction company. You’ve got a make of trailer, so now you need to track down crash records of any that were destroyed in accidents to rule them out. There’s always an outside chance it was just abandoned like the general was

I'm not sure if u watch the goonzsqaud they bought a property with a trailer left on it full of scrap. Very often trailers that are no longer legal for the road are used as storage units and sign boards near highways. The way the ramp is on this trailer makes it unsuitable for either use and not being weather tight or easy to swing open and grab something.

The mileage of the truck when it was handed over to Universal looks to have been 22 miles...not 1,201. The 1201 number is the "DATE IN", meaning it was returned on 12/01...with 1,523 on the odometer. And if you look at the next line, it was sent back out to Universal on 12/01/84, with 1,524 on the odometer. I would have LOVED to been involved in gathering this data from the old equipment.
