I agree, but I think I might be misunderstanding, but it feels like more of the hatred comes from the purists (real hardware or none at all) vs emulation in all forms, rather than software vs FPGA. It feels like, especially in the speedrunning community, there is a large amount of animosity towards any sort of emulation. FPGA or no. Which is a real shame. I would like to disagree that there is hatred or animosity towards emulation from the speedrunning community. Emulation seems pretty accepted to start out if you want to learn a game and develop skill to get to the competitive level. At the high levels of speedrunning though it seems software emulation is just way too inconsistent to make things fair since each person could be competing on different emulators and hardware builds. I get that they could require you all play on a certain spec PC with a certain emulator but when it comes down to it playing on original hardware more or less eliminates that factor and ensures a fair display of skill. Just my two cents on it. @@TheDarkestPhoenix

Awesome overview guys! This will be helpful for when mine comes in :). I think they should have a community settings mode where the system can automatically adjust to optimal video settings based on community contributions on a per game basis. Similar to how the Steam Controller was going to work with its community mappings. Your recommended settings are appreciated and what I plan to use on mine. Took a screen shot :)
I like how the system designed its cartridge slot so that it can show off as much of the cartridge's label as possible. definately gives it a unique look.
Honestly, I have never owned a Sega Genesis myself growing up (I'm 36 now). Once I knew Analogue was working on this device, I knew I had to preorder since I own a Super NT. In the past 2-3 weeks, my Genesis library went from 0 to 17 (all my games have at least the hardbox included).
@@PrinceMarcusWilliam If you already have a Genesis with an OSSC you would have the exact same image quality using the original hardware instead of this clone, and use it with every other retro console. With the amount you spent with those two clones you could have bought and OSSC, a real SNES and one or two more consoles.
@@PrinceMarcusWilliam the point is the same. Oh man, I'm sorry. Should have got the MiSTer FPGA instead. It does way more consoles, also arcade cores, and computer cores as well, and it's Genesis core is more accurate than the Mega SG's core. Can change between Model 1 and Model 2 filters, and also change between the different YM chips.
@@jackbootshamangaming4541 I'm on the fence about this. Do I buy Analogue SG where I know it will work out of the box and play all my old Mega Drive games, or do I buy something I don't understand and will probably face frustration and disappointment trying to replicate, as I have had with every single emulation product I have ever tried? I have never got the hang of emulation there is too much faffing around involvded for the end result to work properly! How easy is it to setup and configure MiSTer FPGA? I find all this stuff so overly complicated.
@@rafaliciousbmx Bruh, if you can't set up a MiSTer, then you shouldn't even be using electronics. Misteraddons, and most other vendors, even send you a pre-flashed microSD card, so all you need to do is run the script that connects to the net, and then the one that updates it, called Update... If you have to set a card up yourself, you literally just download the image, use a USB mount tool, mount it, plug it in your DE-10 nano, let it install, then run the update script, which you select from it's On Screen Display with just a click of a few buttons. It's super Easy. If you really need help setting it up for some reason, I'm willing to upload a fully setup SD card that all you'd have to do is download the .rar/.7zip for and just unpack it onto your SD card. DO NOT blow money on Analogues hardware, which is a weaker FPGA inside, for more money
@@SilentShadow-ss5xp Except there is a lot to cover for the OG Xbox. There's a number of quirks to the system that many people are probably unaware of. For one, certain revisions of the system handle component video differently (later revisions break 480p on certain games like Panzer Dragoon Orta, Quantum Redshift, Gun Valkyrie, and the standalone disc of JSRF, just to name a few). Theres also the differences in hardware revisions that changed out parts like better disc drives and removing the notoriously leaky clock capacitor. Another issue is that not every game supports 480p as widely reported (Final Fight Streetwise to name one). There's also the issue of third party cables not being as robust as the first party cables. There's also RGB which is supported via an RCA converter for European systems. And let's not forget Xbox originals on the Xbone. That's quite a bit to cover for a video. And of course, there's the copious modding the system is famous for, sone of which can fix the aforementioned broken component output on certain models.
Indeed it is! Although for me its achilles heel is its peripherals. The s-controllers I had always had drift and being able to plug in a modern controller would be a godsend. (Brooks are you listening?)
This was a really outstanding video showcasing what to expect and more from the Mega SG. The speech at the end was especially great, although I see it didn't stop certain armchair experts from blindly hating on the SG and chiming in to show their "knowledge". To all the know-it-alls claiming that it's "cheaper" to simply get a Framemeister, put your money where your mouth is and actually show me and everyone else here where you can get a Framemeister for less than the cost of the Mega SG. I would love to see that so I can buy one. Not only that, but one must already OWN the console and the Powerbase converter to even come close to the value of the Mega SG. The Framemeister was discontinued in 2017 and is extremely expensive today, costing more than SEVERAL Mega SGs just to buy, and that doesn't go into the costs of modding your consoles for RGB to even make use of the thing (although thankfully this is not an issue with the Genesis/Mega Drive). The clones are simply a cheaper and less dedicated alternative to importing an expensive upscaler and having your consoles modded for RGB. Like some other comments have said, I for one am happy to see these alternatives. Many consoles and CRTs are dying out, making them harder to find in working condition. I'm happy to see there's alternatives and I'm glad the retro gaming community is so alive! This is all coming from someone who has never even bought a clone console.
Having watched five video reviews of the sg since yesterday, I need to say that this one is by far the more in-depth, technical, detailed and complete video of all. There is a difference between saying "It also has a nice dithering option, cool, yeah!" and your explaining how this dithering option works, the algorithm limitations, toggling the dithering detection sensitivity and more. You are lightyears ahead!!
superspecky4eyes, my answer to that is not if you don't buy Paprium from the asshole that fucked it up for the people that paid good money to get a retro game made, as it was his fault for committing massive amounts of fraud to people. I'm surprised that the FBI and DOJ haven't filed formal arrest charges against him yet.
Oh it will run. Just that the thieving asshole behind the game doesn't seem to want to work on the game nor give Paprium to the public. Screw that guy.
I agree that the breakdown MLIG has is the best for hardcore fans. I think Game Sack is better for those that just want to play their old library of games.

I got three different channel notifications pop up on my phone for Mega SG review vids today......This is the only one I’ll be needing to watch though! Great job as always guys....
Analogue released the new 4.9 firmware on May 4, 2023. Seems to fix a lot of outstanding bugs, including Sega CD issues. It might be worth one last video to check the state of the Mega Sg with what I assume will be its final firmware update. Thoughts?
Man this video reminded me of how much I want a sega cd XD. And I think part of the charm of retro gaming community is the variety of people in it. Curiously enough I've watched most of the rgb series and I play on a regular old crt. I guess we're all nostalgic but our nostalgic pressure points are pressed in different ways.
Mines is coming this week to my doorstep and words can barely describe how excited I am right now. Much like the release of the Mega SG, this episode came in sooner than expected. As usual, I love your attention to detail. This is why you are still considered to be one of my top go to channels for anything retro gaming. Like I said in one of your past streams, thank you for all you do.
I love your videos, so in depth. Makes me glad I still have a CRT TV to play my Genesis and other old consoles on though. I just want to put in a game and play it, not sit around and mess with dozens of settings to try and make the games look as good as they do on a real CRT. This is great for people who don't want or have room for big old TVs though.
Amazing machine, about time someone upped the quality.I really want one.Well worth the high price.I was a megadrive player and have never seen the games look so good.
Yet another awesome video, guys. So I have an aspect ratio related question in regards to 256 x 240 games (which actually only fill out 224 lines, just like the SNES)... in this video (at 16:52) you determined that an ideal width and height for non-integer scaling on a 1080p display was 1482 x 1150, which works out to an aspect ratio of approx. 1.289:1. You said this was based on the OSSC's generic 4:3 sizing. However, in your Analogue Super NT video (at 15:44) you determined the ideal to be 1365 x 1149, which works out to approx. 1.188:1, which was based on the aspect ratio of your Sony PVM-20L5. There's a bit of discrepancy here and I was curious as to which aspect ratio you would prefer to go by: either the OSSC's generic 4:3 definition or the PVM's produced aspect ratio. I also noticed in the Super NT video that your PVM didn't appear to show any overscan; is this pretty easy to produce with PVMs in general? Thanks!
Wow, this is a monster of a video! I appreciate the filled-screen WxH settings you show off around the 17-minute mark. I also love the vintage video effect you guys do for the shot when detaching the Sega SD. Keep up the awesome work!
I always come back to this video just in case I might've missed something important about the Mega SG, so I can play around with the features I have yet to try out. For now, I'm just collecting loads of Genesis/Mega Drive and Master System games, and firing them up on my Mega SG.
I love your video's and all the detailed information provided, but I feel like I'll need to take a Calculus for Engineers class to keep up with all the settings. :D
The closing comments of the review where my exact thoughts. The retro gaming scene is so awesome these days with emulation and fpga solutions along with scalers and flash carts. Feels good.
The dithering consideration is an interesting case. It's nice that it has the option of blending them together for those who want it. Personally, I am of the mind that the dithering was primarily a result of the limitations of the system, and weren't utilized specifically to make use of composite blending but was more a case of implementing certain features as best as they could. Many other systems that used RGB or eve LCD screens (computers and hand-helds for example) used dithering to much the same effect to create shading or mimic half-toning and even though they too would "blend together" on composite output, they were not designed for it at all, so it doesn't seem to be a foregone conclusion that the Genesis graphics were.
There are a plethora of Mega SG Reviews that have come out today, and with my excitement for the Mega SG I have watched them all. I have to say that your review is the best released, not only do you guys go over the features in detail, but it's obvious you did your research, and testing. Kudo's guys. This is why I will always reference your videos for the retro info that I'm looking for.
Holy crap, I thought the Super NT had a lot of options, but the Mega SG goes way beyond! I love all the different audio options, this is pretty outstanding. IMO, out of the box the Mega SG sounds better than the original Genesis (and there's a ton of variations with the original hardware, so I don't necessarily consider "authenticity" to be more desirable over something that sounds better), but I love that there's so much available to tweak. And again, it sounds great without tweaking so it's not absolutely necessary to do so. I definitely will be buying one of these soon and placing it right next to my Super NT!
The Mega SG is just that damn good! I had mine for about two weeks, and I absolutely love that console! I recommend it to anyone who still owns their Genesis, Mega Drive and Master System cartridges, or are starting a collection! You'll love it! Get one whenever you get the chance! I still have yet to get a Super NT! Someday I will!
@@craigjuan5744 Hey, thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I love my Super NT, it's freaking awesome. You and me are the the same boat, but on different sides, I can't wait to buy a Mega SG because as much as I love the original hardware, I love these FPGA consoles and their options and ability to play on modern televisions. Get the Super NT if you can, it's absolutely awesome. The Turrican Director's Cut is the icing on the cake.
The SMS games loses one vertical line of tiles in the left side of the screen in games who uses horizontal scrolling (vertical scrolling or static screen games don't loses this line of the screen). I don't know why this is happen. In the otherside, almost all Codemasters games for SMS uses 248x224 of screen resolution against the standard 256x192, who gives four more tiles in the screen's height (Micro Machines, Cosmic Spacehead, Fantastic Dizzy and Excellent Dizzy Collection. Dinobasher is the only exception). I miss the screen tests with those games.
Received mine in the UK yesterday, up to now the only slight issue i have found is a low hiss from the headphone jack. Out of the box there was no start-up audio and Ultracore was missing, then I noticed a tiny sticker on the wrapping that said it needed an update and that solved that problem. The one thing I would love to see would be future cart adapters for Atari 2600 and 7800 (not sure if 5200 is possible) along with a jail break update to run those systems, the controller ports are already Atari style so this shouldn't be a big issue. What would be cool is if they made their own CD Rom drive add on that could play mega cd , Saturn and perhaps dreamcast all region free, it could be styled after the mk2 cd and attach side by side but use a front opening off the shelf drive from a reliable brand such as Samsung or LG to keep the cost down.
I would really like to buy one these and a Super NT one day or just be able to use one, as I would still prefer to be able on a CRT. It kinda sucks that the NT Mini is discontinued. At least a lite version would be great but completely discontinuing it does not make any sense to me. Regardless, I still really like the idea of these FPGA consoles (which I like to call Hardware Simulators, as that is what they are doing). I can't wait to see the next episode of you guys.
Thanks for covering the timing with the zero lag mode and all, because you are exactly right that the timing discrepancies will make it unusable for most speedrun rules with serious time out in.
That's a great review if I've ever seen one, super in depth and thorough. Great job guys. I can't afford one of these babies right now, but it's on my wishlist thanks to you.
The best way to play mega drive games on a modern tv without question. Obvious the original model 1 on a crt will always be king in my eyes but this is easily the next best thing. The fact is it actual hardware and not emulation is a huge selling point and makes the gameplay and audio amazing
Marc and Coury, another great video guys! I saw this console announced when I was on my honeymoon in October, and I've been chomping at the bit for it ever since. Unfortunately I haven't had the money to pre-order it just yet. I hope to get it soon, and I'm really hoping they release the Game Gear adapter soon as well. That's one of the biggest reasons that I want it. My Game Gear screen is shot, and I've always wanted to play a Game Gear on a TV console.
Outstanding work again, guys...as usual! I absolutely love your channel, and have been waiting with baited breath for this vid. So excited for the Mega SG!
[Try4ce] Yes, sorry! This was one of the easier comparisons to make in the episode, so I apparently didn't spent enough time looking at it before moving onto the next! Whoops!
Hey I have the Mega SG set to boot to the menu. If I select Run Cartridge, Genesis games run exactly as expected; Master System and Game Gear games apply the Genesis profile settings. If I re-enter the menu using the hotkeys after the game has booted, and select Run Cartridge again, then the Mega SG applies the appropriate core settings I’ve entered. For the Master System, the scaling is slightly different and I have the crop settings turned on to get rid of that large overscan border the Master System used. For the Game Gear, I have a 7x scale set, so it’s pretty apparent when the Mega SG boots with the Genesis profile of settings. If I go into the menu after booting the Master System or Game Gear and look at the settings, I do not have a Core Settings selection available unless I restart the game by selecting Run Cartridge again. Also, if I go into the menu after selecting Run Cartridge the first time, all the settings I can see are those I set for the Genesis when I configured that yesterday morning after I installed the 4.7 firmware. After going into the menu for a GG or MS game, and hitting Run Cartridge a second time, the game shows the right settings, plus if I go into the menu again, the core settings option is available as are the specific settings in video and audio for the given system type.
Glad you guys were able to put out such a great episode with the short time frame you had. It's a good episode when you keep checking the time left, hoping you aren't near the end. :) I do think it looks weird attached to a Sega CD with the mouse pad looking spacer underneath. Was hoping for a more aesthetically pleasing look. Also was hoping for more coverage on the Sega CD when attached to the Mega SG. Like picture quality of Sega CD games running through the Mega SG's HDMI. I am not upset over the lack of 32x support because that is only 40 or so games and most of them I have checked are unappealing to me. If they do come up with a solution for 32x at some point, maybe a more pleasing looking addon for both 32x and Sega SG would be great. Hoping there is a firmware updating for either the Mega SG or Mega Everdrive to eliminate the need to swap regions whenever I boot up another region's game. I wanna stay out of the menus as much as possible. An all around settings solution is what I hope to dial in the first time I boot the game up and never have to touch it again. Isn't the 8bitdo 2.4ghz wireless controller supposedly less latency then the bluetooth version? If so I think that is the controller I will get.
[Try4ce] That's what I've heard, it's less latency, yeah. And it also connects instantly, no seek time. Much more positive experience in my opinion over the Bluetooth versions. I intend to use it as my main Genesis controller going forward, whether on the real system or Mega Sg. I can't say the same for the other 8Bitdo Retro Receivers, which I like, but ultimately the little hassles have caused me to not use them much compared to my wired controllers.
Wait, you can use the Mega Drive cartridge slot and Mega CD disc slot simultaneously!? WHAT THE HELL!? No way! That’s incredible! You could use the cartridge for gameplay and faster loading, but stream audio and even video from the CD! That’s super cool! Why did no one use that back in the 90’s!?
I really hope Analogue still brings out the other cartridge adapters. I have hundreds of original Game Gear, SG-1000, and Sega Card games I want to use with the Sg.
I really love all the love that Monster World 4 gets from you guys these days. It's always featured in your video's as well as the music from it. It really is a fantastic hidden gem for the Genesis/Megadrive is it not?
About psycho-acoustics in audio comparisons : if you switch between A and B while both tracks are synced, any difference will be hard to detect. But if you restart A and B from the beginning every time you swap, the differences will be way easier to detect. I don't know why, it's weird, but that's how the brain does. I suppose the effect can vary between people, but I confirmed this with everyone I tested.
Excellent video as always. I agree that 480i is probably a low priority at this point, but many of us have fond memories of Sonic 2 split-screen. Personally I'd love to see a "bob"-type deinterlace added at some point to get rid of that ugly combing. I'd also like to see if the audio could be tweaked to better mimic a Model 1. The examples in the video don't quite have that bass-heavy, rolled-off "grit." Of course, the community is still getting acquainted with all the unit's functions so it may take a while for someone to develop some well-defined profiles. I'm sure it'll come, I'm in no rush. :)
Man, the idea of even writing the script for this review is mind boggling. Great vid, in depth as all hell. I do eventually want to get this and I had no idea the Sega Cd would work too
[Try4ce] Honestly I don't understand how we did it either. It was a real team effort. We had several weeks of experience with the system, but didn't start writing the script until 2 weeks ago today (when we learned the embargo was 2 weeks away). A head start with testing the console helped, but it's a miracle we pulled it together, especially when it ended up being twice as long as we imagined it would be.
Just got my preorder in for one of the last batch mega sg's! Big hyped. Wish I could have gotten the super nt as well but I'm ore then happy with the mega sg, cuz sega do what nintendont 😎
I wonder if they could run the Nt, Super Nt, and SG in their native frame rates if they used Variable Refresh Rate (which I bet people using these are also using TVs which support this). They should at least have an option to choose this.
Thank you for mentioning that the system doesn't include the controller. Analogue's website shows a controller in the picture on their Store, making it look like it does include one. That's pretty lousy marketing on their part and I hope they fix it.
[Try4ce] Yeah we made that mistaken assumption ourselves despite previous systems not including controllers, so we figured it was worth a passing mention.
Regarding the tip at 40:00 to unplug the MegaCD, be aware that if you do this there will be a significant voltage drop on the base unit. This is enough to cause the MegaEverdrive X3 to fail to POST on my Mark 1 Genesis, for example. The severity will depend on your console version and power supply but I would not recommend this, as you'll be stressing the power supply of the base unit.
I've seen a lot of reviews for this over the past few days, and this is by far the best, most in depth review out of them all. I don't know if Analogue sent you the machine for free, but going off the standard of your review, I'm guessing they didn't. Well done guys, excellent video.
[Try4ce] Oh they did send us the systems to be clear (I say so early in the video), and we offered a lot of pre-release feedback as well (most of which was thankfully implemented through updates). But certainly we were under no obligation to give a positive review. This video passed no one's approval but our own.
16:53 Why don't I have the same items in my Width & Height menu? I don't have the top two items, I just have "Width (Square Pixels)" with no separate sliders for different widths. Was this an addition in a firmware update?
You should reconsider how you present sound comparisons. Several key sounds have been recorded in the two versions, but appear only in the video on one version. The example around 32:24 is a good example of this. Just pausing one video while the other is demoed, then switching it around would help a ton.
I absolutely love my 16-bit Analogue consoles. Since the release of the DAC, I think that my favorite way to enjoy them both is pretty much exclusively on my Sony WEGA CRT. 5 years later, if Analogue kept offering these consoles, they would definitely make bank, but they seem to like the Nintendo method for hating money.
what a review!! I only missed a 4player adapter test, especially the one with fixed connectors - does the mega sg ports have similar distance to og hardware?
Isn’t it time Analogue went back and produced a price-appropriate NES console, in line with everything else they manufacture now? I need this to happen.
Make sure you update your firmware. I had a lot of issues with stability out of the box, and it turned out that my unit (one of the first shipped) had a firmware that was so old it pre-dated anything on the website by several version numbers. I've only had a few problems since then with specific versions of a few games when using an everdrive, but none with about a dozen real cartridges. The SMS with FM sound support is a great feature. I can finally enjoy Phantasy Star with better sound!
Geez, EVERYONE is dropping Mega SG reviews this week! If I hadn't gotten my start in the sixth generation of videogame history, I'm pretty sure I'd already have one pre-ordered one of these by now. :D
Woohoo Virtua Racing! Right now my Framemeister and SCART cable to either my Sega CDX or Genesis M1/CD M2/32x works extremely well with my 4K Visio TV. The Mega Sg would probably be a bit more convenient and less cables though. But for me I think my purchasing decision would be based more on the adapters to play the other Sega systems, since I have no issue with my current setup with real hardware. Plus I also have a MiSTer. :) Of course, the options for both video and audio on the Mega Sg is quite impressive. Tweaking things with the Framemeister is kind of a pain to me.
I wish you’d use play the same audio twice for each audio analysis rather than playing different sections of the same song, which really doesn’t work.

@@rafaliciousbmx Also the MiSTer's genesis core is more accurate than the mega SG
An Xbox original episode would be great. (just like the previous ones on the Playstation 2 and the Gamecube)
This is a very fun system to play on.
Alexis Maltère I would love an original Xbox Master Class episode!
Indeed it is! Although for me its achilles heel is its peripherals. The s-controllers I had always had drift and being able to plug in a modern controller would be a godsend. (Brooks are you listening?)
I saw a few other reviews but I came here for the REAL scoop. Thanks for always making the best content.
That sermon at the end, it bought a tear to my eye. Peace, brother!
I watched a few reviews for this system. They were entertaining, however yours is reference material and entertaining. Thanks.
Excellent work as always, guys! I can't think of anyone else that's as thorough as you.
Can't wait for tomorrow when mine is supposed to arrive. I will use this for a reference. Thx guys!
Well done guys. You guys provide such a valuable service to the gaming community. Same goes for Analogue too :)
The amount of details and technical aspects you go into just makes me gush. Thank you!
Will anything be able to play Paprium? That is the real question :P
superspecky4eyes, my answer to that is not if you don't buy Paprium from the asshole that fucked it up for the people that paid good money to get a retro game made, as it was his fault for committing massive amounts of fraud to people. I'm surprised that the FBI and DOJ haven't filed formal arrest charges against him yet.
Paprium can't even play Paprium.
Oh it will run. Just that the thieving asshole behind the game doesn't seem to want to work on the game nor give Paprium to the public. Screw that guy.
What is Paprium?
Nobody will ever be able to play Paprium on any hardware.
The only review you need to check on YT for the Analogue Mega SG period
Great video guys! and as always, very detailed and helpful.
I agree that the breakdown MLIG has is the best for hardcore fans. I think Game Sack is better for those that just want to play their old library of games.

This is quite an engineering feat, Kevtris is a genius. Awesome video. You guys talk kind of fast but your production values are impressive. 👍

I got three different channel notifications pop up on my phone for Mega SG review vids today......This is the only one I’ll be needing to watch though! Great job as always guys....
Always incredibly detailed and on-point, will be using this as reference in future, well done guys!
I love how in depth these videos are. Seriously, I appreciate all the side by side examples.
Analogue released the new 4.9 firmware on May 4, 2023. Seems to fix a lot of outstanding bugs, including Sega CD issues. It might be worth one last video to check the state of the Mega Sg with what I assume will be its final firmware update. Thoughts?
Still waiting/hoping on jailbreak 4.9 :/
Man this video reminded me of how much I want a sega cd XD.
And I think part of the charm of retro gaming community is the variety of people in it. Curiously enough I've watched most of the rgb series and I play on a regular old crt.
I guess we're all nostalgic but our nostalgic pressure points are pressed in different ways.
I'm glad there are so many active developments going on.
Now if Analogue will make a new NES FPGA in line with the the SNES and Genesis/Megadrive. A nice TRUE nt mini......
@Wizzy Wambo it is. It is still listed on the home page, but it’s not available for purchase
A spectacular overview as always. I'm watching it a second time already :D
I get my SG on Wednesday, so I think once I get some quality playing time on it I will watch this overview again about 10 times.
I always come back to this video just in case I might've missed something important about the Mega SG, so I can play around with the features I have yet to try out. For now, I'm just collecting loads of Genesis/Mega Drive and Master System games, and firing them up on my Mega SG.
I've been waiting for this episode since the announcement of the mega sg.
I really appreciate the complete and in-depth review of these systems! Your hard work, genuine care and quality is noticed.
As always, an very informative and in depth video, with a very good editing on top!!!
Thank you guys!!
The care taken to put together those videos is incredible. Amazing work.
36:44 that’s the 3rd time I’ve heard the Dragon Wang death jingle
finally in depth review for mega sg, a really great video MLIG :)
Awesome video, you are the reference in retro gaming reviews. Thanks from Germany!
Not gonna lie, out of all the mega sg review video's that popped up in my notifications, yours was the best.
Thanks for covering the timing with the zero lag mode and all, because you are exactly right that the timing discrepancies will make it unusable for most speedrun rules with serious time out in.
I've been waiting for this video just as eagerly as I've been for the console's actual release! So pumped. Thank you!
Great vid I can tell you really put it through its paces and tested every possible feature and spent a lot of time making this vid very informative
6:32 I'm pretty sure the right was meant to say Interpolation ON? Another great video nonetheless! :)
[Try4ce] Yes, sorry! This was one of the easier comparisons to make in the episode, so I apparently didn't spent enough time looking at it before moving onto the next! Whoops!
@@mylifeingaming All good! Always appreciate your videos. :) Much love from the retro gamers in Singapore.
9:53 the 8 blank pixels on the left side of the screen is to cover artifacts when scrolling horizontally since the nametable is only 32 tiles wide
Glad you guys were able to put out such a great episode with the short time frame you had. It's a good episode when you keep checking the time left, hoping you aren't near the end. :)
I do think it looks weird attached to a Sega CD with the mouse pad looking spacer underneath.
My Mega Sg will arrive soon. So much hype, it's like being a kid waiting for christmas. Can't wait!
Excellent in-depth review and video. Looking forward in purchasing one in the near future. Great job!
Video: "I wonder if the Mega SG will be able to play Paprium"
Me: "I wonder if anyone will ever be able to play Paprium..."
The BEST video ever: so exhaustive!
Thanks: I will use it to set up my Mega Sg.
THANK YOU!

Even though there's no way i can afford this, i find these videos fascinating and informative! Very well done.
I just got stupidly excited when I heard a Terminator CD tune fire up!
Great video as always. I think I need one of these things.
Spectacular overview gents. Thanks for all you.
I bet a low-pass filter could help out with that noisy FM chip on the adapter you guys mentioned. And great video guys! :)
I wonder if they could run the Nt, Super Nt, and SG in their native frame rates if they used Variable Refresh Rate (which I bet people using these are also using TVs which support this). They should at least have an option to choose this.
Maybe FPGAs aren't powerful enough to handle such a feature. Still an awesome idea, though.
Update: Yes it was the firmware.
My Mega SG is being delivered to my house in 2 days! AHHHHHH excited!
You should reconsider how you present sound comparisons. Several key sounds have been recorded in the two versions, but appear only in the video on one version.
The example around 32:24 is a good example of this. Just pausing one video while the other is demoed, then switching it around would help a ton.
At 26:20, the Sg actually sounds better than the Genesis hardware for reproducing SoR tracks!
What a great and informative episode as always 👍.
