  • In this webinar recording, Matt Bowers, Spring 2022 HMS Conservation Science Trainee, discusses his exciting graduate field research in Kenya.
Throughout the world, people and wildlife are forced to compete over a limited amount of resources, and this can create conflicts that put both human food security and wildlife conservation at risk. In southern Kenya, endangered African savanna elephants not only frequently raid farmers' fields, but they are also "ecosystem engineers" that modify habitats used by other species, such as raptors. Matt will be discussing these interconnecting components that make up his master's thesis as a member of the Elephants and Sustainable Agriculture in Kenya (ESAK) project, a collaboration between Western Kentucky University, Wildlife Works, and Earthwatch Institute.
