2024 Seasonal Stewards Lecture Series
The Stewardship Department hosted a lecture series open to the public on August 8, focused on our forest managment. The presenters were the Seasonal Sanctuary Stewards/Invasive Specialists which are completing their 2024 season. Each Seasonal Steward selected a topic of their choice that they observed or directly worked on during the season. This season also commemorates a decade of intense managment in efforts to preserve the Sanctuary's biodiversity. The Sanctuary owes a great deal to ALL the Seasonal Sanctuary Stewards for their hardwork over the years. Here is to a "Decade of Biodiversity Building and Beyond"!

    B-R-A-U-C-H-E The verb "brauchen" means to need ("gebrauchen" = to use, "verbrauchen" = to consume) and a "Brauch" is a ritual, a tradition, a habit. Btw: AU sounds like the English OW, just like in "braun/brown" or "Eisenhauer/hower". So "Brau(che)" sounds pretty much like Pow.

    My maternal grandmother always told us our ancestors were "dutch", but then my mom researched our lineage and it turns out out ancestors were German Lutherans who settled in Lancaster County PA in thev1730s, then migrated to Kentucky shortly before the beginning of the Revolutionary War.

    • @billhaddad2953
      @billhaddad2953 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Your maternal grandmother probably was told that her ancestors were "Dutch" without realizing they were Pennsylvania Dutch, who are actually Germans. My moms family is PA Dutch.

    • @thomasphillips8539
      @thomasphillips8539 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most of us, PA Dutch, headed north and northwest, searching for farmland after arriving in Philadelphia. A minority went south.

    If only all American Kestrels would predate primarily upon the invasive Starlings instead of just in the practice of falconry. It does present a bit of irony that they could win in a predator/prey scenario but be losing the war at nesting boxes.

    7:10 The dinosaur shown as "ancestor" is not a raptor. It's not even a theropod. It's a relative of Triceratops (probably Protoceratops). It's NOT an ancestor to birds.

    Hey where is that repo? Is it private? Instead of a video we could do the birds and make them fly in different patterns in threeJs? Or using the dom and some sprites! :/ would love to be able to handle a Pull request with a different front-end tactic.. I've been missing out going to Kekoldi in Costa Rica and helping out in the count! :)
