Man I competed in Masters 2 at Medium Heavy a few weeks back. Lost all my matches. Super nerve wracking and drains all your energy. Big props to you for competing and fighting till the end.
I just signed up for my first IBJJF tournament to take place in July 2017. I am pretty nervous. I am a white belt, medium heavy, and Master II (I'm 43). How did you find the experience?
Hey there. All I can do is share my own experience, which has been great. I've had heartbreaking losses, huge comeback wins, and everything in between. The only real advice I would give you is to keep telling yourself that, no matter how confident someone might look, they are just as nervous as you are. Burn that anxiety like fuel--picture it as a big pile of lumber that you are carrying on your back, and set it down and light that baby up. Just that simple visualization helps me a lot. You probably roll with tougher guys in practice than the guys you will fight, so don't doubt yourself. And remember, regardless of the outcome, there are over a billion people in China who don't give a rat's ass. :)
Thanks for the info! I am actually experimenting to see if I could cut weight to get into the lower weight division. I have time. Sounds interesting....how many fights do you have at a typical IBJJF tournament? I figure everyone has nerves....usually people do before contact sports (I used to play rugby). Do you think the IBJJF tournaments are well run? Thanks!
hey dad its me and i wanted to let you know that i think this is great!!!!!
