How to do 3 colors in one row without getting yarn all twisted. I saw one of your videos with 2 colors and no twisting of yarn, but how to knit more than 2 colors in a row. i am knitting the tea cozy from your book. thank you!

As always, I love your tutorials. I do a lot of colorwork, but am never happy with the way my colors show through on the right side of my work - even though I know this trick in not doing the floats on top of each other. My ultimate knitting goal though is to knit as well as Arne. ❤️

Arne purls different than I do. I learned from my Norwegian grandma an I don’t do that many twists. Does it matter? I’ve been knitting for more than 50 years and I think my things look ok.

Hi boys! Love your video, as always, I learn so much from you. I have a question though. I have just started knitting properly, and I have learned how to do the Norwegian purl from you, Arne, in another video, but in my current project, I have to do regular P3Tog stitches. While this is easy to do in both English and "regular" continental styles, I can't get enough motion to twist around and pick up the working yarn when I try to do it Norwegian style. Any advice? Thanks, as always!

Thank you once again for another informative episode. Always interesting and so talented!....
One comment and I don’t know if this a TH-cam feature or the way the blog is filmed. Often you show beautiful photos at the end your episodes but lately they are obscured by “annoying” (because I want to see the images) suggestions as to what to watch next.... Is there a way of putting these on the last screen shot or not at all (as TH-cam show you these anyway)? But thank you for all your information always 🌿

Hello! Thankyou so much for this helpful video! I am a new knitter and have become obsessed with it! I have only knit top down sweaters in a single colour so far, so I am very excited to try some colour work! I have found some patterns which I just adore, but some of these are knit bottom up! Maybe you could do a video about the difference between knitting top-down and bottom-up, and why some patterns are done these ways? Is there a benefit/negative to approach!? Thanks again!

What a revelation! the slow down button is amazing. Arne and Carlos you never cease to amaze me. Your knitting brings back memories of the intricate jumpers my mother used to knit for us, she was from a place called Modena in Italy and enjoyed her skiing of course the jumpers were always very bright and colourful with some beautiful designs, and she never used a pattern.

Ok, this was actually kind of spooky that your subject was catching floats. I only recently got up enough nerve to try stranded colorwork, and just last night was complaining to myself about the back of my work looking messy, and some color poking through to the front! You must be mind readers! THANK YOU for all your help.

Arne, I love watching you knit and purl, especially purl. I am a throw knitter and am trying to learn to how to hold and thread the yarn from the left when doing purl stitches. Thank goodness for the "setting" button which let me slow the speed to .25. I could then see how you hold the yarn in back over the left finger as if you're knitting and then you go back and as you make a purl you go back and hook the thread from the finger, wrap it around the needle and bring it back through the stitch as a purl. Working from the left hand is awkward for this throw knitter and being able to see your needle and finger movement in slow motion really helped me understand your technique. BTW, I love all your videos! You two are fab!

Q&A.. maybe on your next Q&A I wonder if you two have considered “project kits”( example: Wool and the Gang sells kits at Joanns, or something like the yarn/project monthly subscriptions)? I live in Florida, and yes it’s always hot here 99% of the year...but when it does get cold it’s a very bone chilling, wet/humid cold. My daughter and I love wearing sweaters (year round believe it or not) scarves, etc. Her high school is always too cold, even when it’s in the 90-100 degrees out she easily wears her beloved sweaters :) I’m sure it would take a lot of time you two don’t have , but I bet you would make a fortune. Kits could set you up where you could knit something for yourself for a change , or finish up some UFO’s 😂😂

Curious if you carry a float on a row that doesn't use that color at all, or do you bring that color up the side. For example on that sweater you showed I saw a row that was all color, no black line at all.

I am doing my first stranded knitting project, in the round. I am a little confused about the idea of three stitches and then catch and in the next row two stitches and then catch or something like that. My confusion seems to be that the pattern has different amounts of color stitches in the different rows. So I am not quite sure how to work this out. Maybe it just takes some practice and experimentation on my part, perhaps my uncertainty is my novice status.

  • @susanvanvleck3957

do you think twisting has advantages over keeping yarns APART all the time so never having yarns twist? You can keep yarns apart wtih continental, Portuguese and English method----not ever have to remember to twist one way or the other

as an English style knitter this looks really odd however when I slowed it down I do catch my threads the same its just a different method. I'm trying to learn your style of knitting but I am too slow still for a full project. Doing a colour work jumper for my daughter at the moment.

Panicked there for a second when you purled as I couldn't keep up what you did there. Then I realized it was the Norwegian purl. Which I learned last week 🤣 So I clearly need more practice with that one lol

can you please do one where you show catching the floats from the right side? I've gotten so frustrated trying to follow what other people are showing on YT.. their techniques are just not working for me, so I would really like to learn yours properly, but I can't tell how to do it from the front

I did not get the technique the first time and looked for the "wheel" to slow down the video. Well, I found the video and it does make a huge difference in understanding the technique that Arne was demonstrating. I was so focused on the technique, but when my concentration relaxed and I then went to the general video it sounded like you two were smashed. I had to start laughing. 😂

You two are wonderful! I’d like to learn about blocking. Is it important? How do you block? Thanks!

Yes, we always say finishing touches is what makes the garment, must never be skipped! Our episode on steaming/blocking will be published in May, so stay tuned!

how come i cannot find videos on how to carry 5 or 6 different colour changes for floats. there are alot out there in patterns. i am doing a reindeer stocking right now. please help with tutorial. thanks very much.

That's probably because we are knitters from Norway and in our Scandinavian culture, traditionally, we do not knit with that many colours - usually 2 or 3. Maybe you need to look for tutorials on fair Isle knitting - Fair Isle is the knitting style done in the Shetclands and is a bit different from Norwegian colour work.

How do you catch the floats when there are purls on the right side of the work and in the round? I always wind up with gaps in my knitting when it comes to simply twisting the strands to keep the floats on the wrong side.

can you do a tutorial on steeks? a lot of people don't know what they are so they won't knit any garments that call for them. They also don't understand when they are used and why. Also please show how to cut and reinforce so the garment doesn't unravel
