It's not only a battle between Jonas and Tadej rather than UAE und Jumbo. And UAE looks much stronger.
Jumbo without Kuss in the mountains is week considering the domestique's they have to compete with team UAE. A battle for considering Tadej's exhibition today.
the difference is vingegaard went against a podium contender (adam yates) a vuelta contender(ayouso) Almeida sivakov and soler while having no prep and having a extremely bad crash (fractured collarbone and multible ribs, a pulmonary contusion and a pneumothorax) staying in hospitial for 12 days coughing blood and olny having a month to "prepare" (training himself up and getting the fear away from the crash) vingegaard is crazy to be at this level with all the obstacles so it aint the same bro

It's interesting, on the top part of the descent, where it was wet and where you would expect Jonas to have more nerves descending, he lost very little time--the gap opened up on the lower part of the descent and on the subsequent end of the stage. So I'm not sure the argument holds up that Jonas was particularly hesitant on the descent, rather Pogi is a stronger rider on lower inclines or flat. We saw that in the relatively hilly TT last year when Jonas absolutely smoked everyone. I'm rooting for Pogi, but I think anyone saying that he has it in the bag now is sorely mistaken. Visma is still strong, especially tactically and I think Jonas could gain a lot of time in ITT, especially on the final on stage 7 or Nice, final stage (although Pogi probably knows this course super well as he lives in Monaco).
Yeah, Jonas was NOT hesitant on the descent. He's always been at least as Pogacar as a technical descender, usually choosing more confident lines. Most of Jonas' time loss, as noted in his post-race interview, was on the straighter section "where you get more benefit from gravity." It's also possible that Jonas just fatigued more than Pogacar over the pedal-as-hard-as-you-can section of the descent.
jonas himself said in an interview that further down the descent its more straight and that benefits (the heavier) tadej, in his words "gravity helps you more"

Question from a cycling newbie. Is it possible that Tadej would try to win Vuelta? As far as i know it never happened before to win three big tours, but considering his strength, would it be physically possible?
He isn’t going to win the tour 😢😮 if he does somehow pull it off, the Vuelta will be an absolute must try, but too many happenings between now and then to speculate.
I think that’s something to discuss when he has finished and won the Tour. Many things can happen until the end. If he wins competing at the Vuelta would be possible. Pogi would also probably be the favourite at the Vuelta but there are still many ifs even after he has won the Tour. For example: Can he keep his form at the Vuelta? Who is the competition (for example if Jonas gets better during the Tour and feeling good maybe they will send him to the Vuelta with Kuss that would be incredible hard for Pogi after a long season)? Will the preparation and race go well for him. One mistake is enough for him to loose the Vuelta and unfortunately even more. Who would UAE send to support Pogi? Their Tour team is incredible. However they probably won’t send all of them to the Vuelta. So yeah no one can answer question currently and no one can say if it even will be a question at the end of the tour.
I’m surprised, but think Jonas has it. I’m happy because I wanted him to come back and take it but wasn’t sure. I’m pretty certain now he will take him down when the climbs stack up and get bigger/steeper.
Wout was already dropped by Politt pulling. He isn’t exactly a climber and doesn’t seem to be on the best form. And when it comes to climbing Domestiques Vizma just doesn’t have the strength UAE has this year. While the last years Visma was stronger this year in the mountains UAE‘s Domestiques are just unbelievable, while Visma is missing Sepp Kuss. And even if Sepp was at the Tour UAE as a team this year would probably be stronger in the mountains because well having Solet, Ayuso, Almeida and Yates as Domestiques is an ungodly amount of firepower. And Sivakov, Wellens and Politt were cruel to the peloton and crucial for delivering their team to the mountains today as well.
