  • SEAT Ibiza FR 1.8T - Ideal First Warm/Hot Hatch? [Cheap Thrills Ep.3]
Hello guys, welcome back to Car Obsession, and welcome to another episode of 'Cheap Thrills', the series in which I cover fun cars for under £5,000. Some of you may recognise the car featured this time around as it's a 2006 SEAT Ibiza FR that used to belong to me and now belongs to my dad.
The FR, which stands for 'Formula Racing', acts as a halfway house between a standard Ibiza, and the fire-breathing Cupra, and even to this day that is the case, although Cupra has become its own brand of course. Sadly, there's no current Cupra Ibiza, but let's hope that comes in the future.
Under the bonnet of the FR is a 1.8 litre turbocharged four cylinder petrol engine offering 150hp, along with 220Nm of torque. 0-62 comes in 8.4 seconds, and the top speed is 134mph. This power is fed to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual. For those thrifty amongst us, there was also the choice of a 1.9 litre diesel.

Everytime I see this car it makes me miss my old one. Fun little car because of the lightweight. Too small for me now but i don't ever regret having my mapped pd130 173bhp and 319 ft lbs of torque

Own one as well. I think it also needs a 6th gear or a longer gear ratio in 5th gear for more comfort on the Autobahn. Anyways, great car! Really love mine 🥰

I just sold my 54 reg 1.8T Cupra, a really good car and I think I slightly regret it. I did sell it in favour of 2006 Cupra but the diesel 160hp version which is around 240hp with all of its modifications.

I have the possibility of buying a cupra with a few tasteful performance mods… I hear loads about handling being a little weak point on these. The purpose of the car is a track toy, weekend warrior! I have enough budget for a Cupra (big brakes etc) or a Type R FN2. Head is telling my FN2 for handling and vtec, heart it’s telling me cupra with turbo wooosh! Any thoughts appreciated!!
