    As an Aussie I laughed my arse off! Honestly as far as indigenous jokes go I met an elder up north who invited me in to a conversation with a bunch of other fellas & we ended up swapping jokes about white people & aboriginal people for 2 hours all of us cracking up at both, in saying that it’s all relative to how serious you take life but us Aussies do love a laugh even at our own expense.

    The biggest misconception with Australian convicts is that they were hardened criminals. Hardened criminals like murderers were hanged. The majority of convicts were the poor who were caught stealing food to survive. The poor were the undesirables-the burden of British society, and the First Fleet was the first step in ridding English towns and cities of the lowest of lower class.

    • @Dr_KAP

      It’s not really why we call them POMs- it’s from rhyming slang - pomegranate/Jimmy Grant/immigrant.

    • @Lnch4ALion
      @Lnch4ALion ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Dr_KAPit is not known what the origin is. Many people say different things, however it is much more likely that pom is short for pomegranate, as the English h ave rosy cheeks. Pomegranate does not rhyme with Grant , or immigrant. Why would Australians refer to the English in general as immigrants? It holds less weight than the other theories

    • @Dr_KAP
      @Dr_KAP ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Lnch4ALion
      Origins: "Pommy" (or "pom" or "pommie") is a primarily Australian (and largely derisive) slang term used to indicate a recent immigrant from Great Britain, or
      a Brit in general. The origins of "pommy" having been lost in the mists of time, someone needed to cook up an etymology for it, preferably one
      equal to the pejorative sense of the word. Accordingly, we now have the story that criminals transported to Australia were designated "Prisoners of His Majesty" or "Prisoners of Mother England" (some versions claim the convicts bore one of these legends printed on the backs of their shirts), and thus the acronym "POHM" or "POME" eventually evolved into the slang term "pom" or "pommy."
      This amusing anecdote is doubtful as anything more than a fanciful invention, as acronymic origins antedating the mid-twentieth century are automatically suspect, and the use of "pommy" has been recorded at least as far back as 1915. Moreover, nobody has yet turned up corroborating evidence that "Prisoner of His Majesty" or "Prisoners of Mother England" were actually common designations for criminals transported to Australia. The best guess at this time is that "pommy" was based on the word "pomegranate" - either because the redness of the fruit supposedly matched the typically florid British complexion, or because (like "Johnny Grant") it was used as rhyming slang for "immigrant."

      Any non-freezing beer has this thing missing from Australia's cold lager: taste. I am an Aussie and a brewer, and I can say our main beers are awful and there is a reason it is served so cold that you can't taste anything.

    • @python27au
      @python27au ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think its a matter of environment. You spend all day working in 30+ heat. Who the hell wants to sit in a hot pub drinking hot beer? I brew my own beer and i think theres nothing better than a cold beer on a hot day.

    • @buchinsku

    I agree. I think we're similar to Brits. We take the piss out of people, and that can be taken as us being rude or disrespectful. But it's the opposite. It's how some of us include you in a group, or welcome you. When I spent a couple months in Scotland, they took the piss out of me completely. Left me high and dry in the jokes department. But they also offered to have me live with them for weeks at a time, then send me off to another relative in another city. The British and Scottish were the most hospitable people I met when I went through 20ish countries. We are very similar. We'll give you shit, then offer you a place to sleep if you need it.

      That's It.. As An Ozzie With All These New Laws We Would Not Get Away With It.. Discrimination. The true stories I could tell you about Aborigines would make your toenails curl up, so when Andrew Schulz came on I couldn't stop laughing I Nearly Pissed Myself 😂 only he & a few other comedians can get away with it ..Yes If It Was You Or Myself Saying This Or A Little Bit More We Would Be In Court Being Sued Or In Prison For A Bit, Or Perhaps Doing Community Service. But I've Heard What Abs Think Of Us lol.. But The Good Part About Being True Aussie Is I Don't Care, Evidently They Need More Help Than Us 😅

    A fare number of Convicts were convicted of stealing bread or food, a brooch and after being pardoned, became Settlers side by side with Immigrants (new Australian Farmers).
    The woman mid-coitus saying, ‘have you slimed yet?’ Obviously had had enough. In other words “what are you doing? get off me”.

    If that guy wasn't half drunk, he may have seemed half way coherent. Truth is: Sydney, Hobart, Brisbane and Perth were all penal colonies, but Melbourne and Adelaide were not. Just imagine the hatred between a host of convict descendants scattered over most of Australia and two colonies founded by rich high born people? Beside all that. The Irish were only a proportion of the convicts sent here, the rest were from England proper, due to the industrial revolution putting them all out of work in the farmlands.

    After this, I think you've had enough of an intro to Aussies.
    Kevin Wilson (Adult comedian like Jimmy Carr but sings) songs are a next ;)

    "Slimed" said no Australian EVER!
    Jimmy writes his own comedy specials and all the jokes found within. 95% of his jokes are entirely made up based on nothing in reality whatsoever.

    Aussies aren't so close to the Americans and without a doubt we are more like the Brits and the Irish.

    The American comedian kind of disgusted me for a few different reasons (partly because he highlighted the racist elements of Australian culture), but the rest were good, lol. I've never heard anyone say 'slimed' in that context though, and I kind of agree with Jimmy, haha. Ew. Maybe it's more common in other regions (I'm in Victoria)?

      His humour is sardonic which is not everyone's cup of tea. Every comedian has their own style. I think he's OK but no Jim Jeffries
