Soo beautiful. My first car was a 1973 Nova back in 1991. Motor was sized and already had performance stuff done to it. Zero rust and it cost me $50!!!!!!!
My guess the box thing inside the trunk is an insert/housing for a charcoal canister for EEC (Evaporative Emission Control). Supposedly additional smog equipment that started in '71 ('70 for CA cars). This is mainly speculation from what little I have read around online however.
Nice vid here and a gorgeous Nova. So, I'm a car fanatic and not only did my mom have a killer '77 light blue Nova with an 8 (not sure if it was a 305 or 350) under the hood, but my aunt (her older sis) had a '73 Nova in yellow w/the black & white checkerboard seats. I wish so badly I could have gotten one of those cars. I love GM & love 70's Nova's. My dream Nova are the rare Yenko Deuces, those were unreal.
I believe that doohickey in the trunk is part of the evaporative emission control. Several tube line ran to and from a charcoal filter that was part of the original motor.
Where was this video and car. A year ago? Hell, I woulda bought the car as it sat in this vid. I had a 72, my 1st car. Was my granny's original purchase I got when 15. Staright 6 built(wasn't allowed to get an 8cyl) , built th350, redid body at highschool body shop classes. Like everyone who ever had one I regret selling it. Was forced to because parents wouldn't let me keep it as a 2nd car sitting in driveway when I was ready to turn 18. They figured it would never leave their driveway I guess but they were wrong. Loved seeing this car. Mine was pee green though.

Love everything about the car, it's a vapor canister that is linked to the vent in the gas tank and charcoal canister that was under the hood
That was my guess.
