I am 84 and don t fish anymore - however I did keep one baitcasting reel reel. An old two speed Abu Garcia which I have owned for 40 or 50 years. It remains as a keepsake. My favorite bait caster was the Shimano Calcutta which I used in the kelp beds off San Diego.
There is always a lot of work to make these cast testing videos. Glad your dad can help out to save you from walking back and forth. Very informative for the fishing community.
That Tatula SV is so hot right now!!! I am going to have to pick one up. The Tatulas are so easy to get dialed in. I would love to see a Tatula comparison. Old 100, new 100, old SV, new SV, 150 and a 150 SV.
I appreciate what you did by comparing others to the custom pro. I bought one and got it in the mail before Christmas. Still haven’t casted it yet . Can’t wait to see what it does out on the water this spring
I love all my Diawa and Shimano reels. My 3 favorite reels of all time are the Diawa Tatula series and the Shimano Metanium DC previous gen and the 2024 Metanium DC.
Daiwa is my go to, has been since the TD-Z. Procedure with all new Daiwa reels for me is: (1) remove spool bearings and flush completely. Add one drop of Yellow Rocket Fuel. (2) Reassemble reel. (3) Adjust spool tension until there is BARELY any side-to-side play. Yep. It's pretty free. (4) Set Magforce to the middle setting on the dial. Number will vary depending on reel and what version of Magforce you have. (5) Test cast and adjust as necessary. (6) Feel froggy, reduce Magforce and let 'er rip tater chip. Remember to thumb as necessary.
I've been pretty excited to see about that Lew's Custom Pro. I'm glad you got your hands on one. You'll give the most honest review of it IMO. Hey, who knows, maybe you'll get rid of that fugly gold with one of your Debo Custom Paint Jobs. 😂. Happy New Year's Bud!
Not a bait casting fan, just don't feel like I have control of my line. If I was to use one, probably the low cost bait caster, it seemed to hold it's own. Happy New Year, Devon! Go Hawkeyes!
What a New Year’s Eve treat! Glad you had a nice day out casting. Gramps and Pops👍, will have to try just to practice. My go to baitcaster’s this year were the Daiwa Zillion and Shimano Chronarch MGL. And both are still as smooth as new.
Thanks Debo. I picked up the revo sx rocket for froggin last year. While it doesn’t cast as far as some of my other reels, it’s a great reel for skipping. Most of my froggin is making short casts to matted vegetation around docks. The revo sx rocket is perfect for it.
Happy New Year. I've been using 2 Lews, 1 JM and a Shimano Calcutta 400s for all my baitcaster needs. I use the Lews for open water, but whenever it comes down to pitching in the heaviest cover, I'll never go away from the Shimano. I've literally brought in floating tree trunks the size of telephone poles while bank fishing at Ft. Patrick Henry Lake with it and 60lb braid. There's something about forged aluminum that's more durable than plastic.
Cool video Debo i love all my Daiwa reels. The zillion and steez are the best reels on the market. They can cast small lures all the way up to the heavy stuff with ease, also not backlashing in the process. I’ve had days where I’m fishing 8-10 hours and not backlashed one time. Also on Amazon Japan you can get a JDM zillion for under 200 bucks 🤯 you won’t find a better reel anywhere for that price. As always thank you for the video, I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in 2025. Have a safe and happy New Year’s Eve, I’m really proud of you Debo your channel has been nothing short of amazing and you deserve nothing but utmost respect. I wish you nothing but happiness and health for the new year thank you again 🙏 👍
Well first I love the casting battles and second you can get a nice Tatula for a bit over 100 bucks and 300 for a Lews to me insane unless it’s Magnesium maybe and still no way I’d pick it over a Shimano or Daiwa. Think of the Shimano or Daiwa excellence you could buy for 300 bucks Lol I’d get 2 Tatulas or 2 SLX-MGL’s maybe. I did really like the LFS I had that got swiped it was an incredible Reel. Have a stellar safe New Year’s Eve my friend.
I'm also a big fan of daiwa. I do like Abu Garcia as well. I do have the abu Garcia Revo SX. It's a little over-braked possibly. I have the brakes all the way off but as you know they're truly never off. But it's an awesome reel. Happy New Year's debo 👊
I'd love to see you try the ARK Gravity 9 reel. I bought a couple of the spinning reels, and am pretty impressed. These test videos are great. Thanks for the content.
Just got part of my Christmas present. Daiwa XT Med 7" rod with a Daiwa Tatula SV103 reel on its way. Excited to get that combo out in spring!! We did get a couple casts in on Monday because its been abnormally warm but its back to 20 degrees here in Wisconsin. Caught one two pound small mouth. Curious to see how the SV compares to my CT reels.
Fun video Debo. I would have thrown that lure over the fence a dozen times or more myself. Or hit my Dad in the head. lol. Good to see you took Stubbie dog along for the trip too.
Daiwa sv100 hands down is what I’d pick. It’ll be my next purchase for a reel. The new frame on the SV100 finally makes daiwa palmable for me. I love the daiwa braking system …. I’d be interested to see how the Ark reels would do. I have the Ark gravity 3 which is $129 but Ark is constantly running BOGO sales so $65 / reel. I was surprised because it’s an aluminum frame, great fit and feel for me. I run the spool tensioner a lot tighter than my Shimano and Abu Garcia reels, but with a smooth casting motion, it sends baits of all weights equally well. Brake adjustment is a bit touch and go initially, but once you get the spool tensioner in the reels sweet spot I can cast it with barely any brakes on. I had one day when I forgot to check the brakes, ended up casting 1/4oz free rig on setting 1 for most of the day.
Great video, as usual. LOL! I'd be interested in seeing a cheap vs expensive line casting test. Same rod, reel, bait but different lines. I realize this will waste a lot of line if you don't have duplicate reels though...
@ 6’10 medium 8-17 lb 1/4-3/4 it is blue like ocean sky looking blue I have a travel 7ft medium heavy for fishing anywhere in the world. Got the 6’6 trout/ pan 3 price one of my favorites too with 1000 Vanford whole thing is like 9oz.
I’m a big 4 fan, Abu, shimano ,lews and diawa. A lot of the 300+ dollar reels perform the same as the ones from blister packs, but a year later the performance between the two will be wildly different, if you fish as hard and often as I do. Buy once cry once
Great video Debo. Please do another video when you can with the SLX MGL 70 and other Shimano's vs budget as I am waiting for a major sale in the future to pick up an SLX MGL 70, Curado MGL, Curado BFS, Metanium MGL and hopefully an Aldebaran BFS if the prices come down. Haha.
Order from Japan. Ive ordered 10 reels from Digitaka.com because of the exchange rate, most reels are 25 to 40 percent cheaper. Plus they will ship the reels to your house in 3 days. It's incredible.
@slickdaddy8408 I am in Ontario Canada so if in USD we get absolutely crushed when converting back to CAD. Have a buddy that is waiting for an industry discount that happens once a year this Spring so hopefully it is a decent one. Lol
I got some giftcards for christmas. I already have topwaters and texas rig stuff. For a kinda weedy pond from the bank in the midwest what lures would you suggest me picking up.
My cast would have went to that grey building on the right .. the tree on the left .. yeah I’m still trying to cast more precise For a budget reel , 100’ is plenty . And for a older but more expensive reel , it’s still kicking butt when going up against the newer but budget reel
I am actually surprised. Daiwa never wins the distance cast competitions, but then again, the sv boost spool. Ivee said a few times before, but I am quickly becoming a Daiwa fan and phasing out the non-Daiwa reels, though I do have a soft spot in me for the Abu's. in fact, I just picked up the new tact z.
yo debo I got the Curado 7'2 med light for like half off and now i can't find it on the tackle warehouse so I think they discontinued it and I got a steal
Hey Dedo: Interesting comparison. Been curious as to why so many anglers are obsessed with casting distance with a reel? Also why does it seem to be so easy to backlash a baitcaster? Thanks…🎣🤔🐝😎
Happy new year Debo, I'm looking to buy the GF her first baitcaster. I already bought her a 7'3 MH rod to throw spinner baits, crank baits jigs and so on. I am looking at Daiwa and was wondering what your recommendation would be for a beginner. I'm looking at the tatula CT, Fuego CT, and last years discounted Tatula sv tw. Or do you think a slx xt150 would be a better first reel. Thank you
How can you use the same piece of line on all those different bait casters/ different brands? There is no possible way that each one, to be optimally filled, would be the same amount of line. Line. Some reels must have been overfilled and some must have been underfilled. You did say you use the same piece of line and switched it to each reel when testing, correct?
All my shimanos are as tight as my daiwa reels. No back play what so ever especially my curados. But they are all smoother than my daiwa reels. My revo4 reels cast with my daiwas but are short compared to my shimanos lol even the stock shimano mgl spool reels. I upgraded all my abu reels with apec7 hybrid ceramic bearings. My shortest casting decent reel is the shimano slx out the box. Upgraded spool bearings and it casts with all but the other shimanos I own lol. I get 40 yards easy with my shimanos with upgraded bearingsand mgl spools, daiwa fall just short of my all my shimanos but are imo easier to dial in. My lews lfs (multiple) and abu revo4 x/ s all have upgraded bearings so they cast better and are smoother but bearings are loud lol.
I’m eye balling that SV 100. Jerkbaits. Think it’ll do it. Jerk bait. 🤔🤔. Most jerkbaits between 3/8-1/2oz. Nice too hear how good it did small weight lure.
Its funny that having experience allows us to hear the backlash before we can see it in the video. HAHA. Oh so that new Lews is basically a Daiwa clone.... HAHA... Daiwa will always be king IMO.
I may have gotten a little more distance out of a couple of my Diawas, but I've never gotten the durability and dependability out of anything like I have from my Shimano reels.
I am 84 and don
t fish anymore - however I did keep one baitcasting reel reel. An old two speed Abu Garcia which I have owned for 40 or 50 years. It remains as a keepsake. My favorite bait caster was the Shimano Calcutta which I used in the kelp beds off San Diego.
I love the budget vs expensive
I 100% guarantee I would have wrapped the lure in that fence a million times 😂
I did one other time, got lucky it wasn't more LOL
There is always a lot of work to make these cast testing videos. Glad your dad can help out to save you from walking back and forth. Very informative for the fishing community.

Tatula comparison yes👊
Yeah, the SV is awesome! I'm thinking about doing a comparison like that soon!
Before I buy anything fishing related, I always listen to your opinion first. Thank you for the awesome information and insight! Happy New year Debo!
I appreciate what you did by comparing others to the custom pro. I bought one and got it in the mail before Christmas. Still haven’t casted it yet . Can’t wait to see what it does out on the water this spring
Hey Debo, Ending the year in epic Debo fashion with a casting comparison. Love it!!! Tatula fanboy. Easy choice for me. Happy new year buddy👊
I always look forward to reel comparisons and learning more about gear from Debo.
Happy new year debo!!!!
Really good video Debo. Happy New Year my friend. Daiwa or Lew's or Shimano, all winners.
Thanks! I agree, you can't go wrong with any of those brands.
I would give the props to American Legacy Fishing. I have been buying from them more and more. Happy New Year Devon!
Need to finish this video off with the 70. Great video tho Debo happy new year 🎆🎊
I know, I'm pissed i blew up the reel. I'll do another test soon!
I was not expecting much out of the Spro but it really surprised me. Not a bad budget reel. Thanks for the comparisons and Happy New Year to you.
I really like those comparisons on casting!
A lot of work but it's fun!
I love all my Diawa and Shimano reels. My 3 favorite reels of all time are the Diawa Tatula series and the Shimano Metanium DC previous gen and the 2024 Metanium DC.
Loved the video Debo, feel like i learned a lot from a fairly short term.
Thank you for the lesson and entertainment.

Hahah appreciate that a lot. Yessir, I'll give you my honest thoughts!
Love dad coaching you on backlash videos 🤣
thank you for geting me into bass fishing fully i i cant thank you as much as i want
Ayeee! Thanks for watching and welcome to the addiction!

Great stuff Debo!!
Thanks for watching!
Cold, windy, miserable here in New Germany (New Jersey).
Hope you all made it into the New Year unscathed 💯🎣👌🏻👍🏻
What a New Year’s Eve treat! Glad you had a nice day out casting. Gramps and Pops👍, will have to try just to practice. My go to baitcaster’s this year were the Daiwa Zillion and Shimano Chronarch MGL. And both are still as smooth as new.
More than pleased with my CT, 100’s, and SV reels. Best brakes on the market hands down.

Awesome video, DEBO! We need a Bfs reel casting showdown.
So you're the one that bought the Cores at ALF. I was eyeing both of them.
Thanks for the info Debo. 👍
Happy New Year to u and the family
Happy New Year to you too!
Love these comparison video's Devon, I really like that Lews "Horrid Gold", @ 5-2, and very small hands, that reel looks right up my alley....what ?
Happy New Year. I've been using 2 Lews, 1 JM and a Shimano Calcutta 400s for all my baitcaster needs. Great information I agree i don't like the gold color on the lew's reel i would like put the kastking speed demon elite 10.5 baitcaster in the lineup

Best of Diawas reels.
MGL 70 didn't make it, but I absolutely love that reel. Happy new year feeshin friends!!
It's a sick reel, I'm a big fan!

Excellent viDebo! Do love me some Daiwa reels…guess I’ll have to join the Daiwa fanboi club too!
Welcome to the club! 😂
@ thank you! 😆
Debo is fired up and I’m here for it
Thats a cool experiment man! I recently just bought a lews too. Hopefully it will do just as good as the one you had there.
Glad to hear you got one! Hopefully you love it
I'd love to see you try the ARK Gravity 9 reel. I bought a couple of the spinning reels, and am pretty impressed. These test videos are great. Thanks for the content.

I've had daiwa multiple shamanos and currently keep picking more Lews which i really really like smooth a great bang for the buck
Need to test that SLX MGL reel... I think that will be the best in the pack you tested, especially given it's price to performance.
Like you Debo, I love my Daiwa’s, also have the new SV, but being in Wisconsin no bueno until spring.
The newest cronarch is amazing got multiple 5lbs and one 8lber 6’10” tfo amazing combo
Which TFO rod do you have?
@ 6’10 medium 8-17 lb 1/4-3/4 it is blue like ocean sky looking blue I have a travel 7ft medium heavy for fishing anywhere in the world. Got the 6’6 trout/ pan 3 price one of my favorites too with 1000 Vanford whole thing is like 9oz.

Got a Tat 200 for a crazy deal on eBay for swimbaits. Wow what an easy reel to dial in.
That is a sweet hoodie
Would go with Lews 100%
I'm a SLX fan, I do not have the mgl yet , but that would be my pick
Great video Debo! What websites do you recommend to buy used and semi-new reels? I'm thinking about trying to import it to Brazil

Debo have you ever used the Okuma Helios sx baitcaster? Ihave a Diawia Exceler baitcaster still working well
Yeah, the helios was a solid reel!
I got some giftcards for christmas. I already have topwaters and texas rig stuff. For a kinda weedy pond from the bank in the midwest what lures would you suggest me picking up.

My 15 year old Curado e50 is still a machine.
I was impressed with the lower budget reel

Do you use backing line on your reels
Here is didn't but normally I do
Need an updated Shimano for a fair comparison. Nice video though. Go Hawks!

Do you have any long-term experience with the pacifun alloy M?
Zillion is still the best! #Daiwa
It's such a good reel!

What shirt are you wearing?
NOTHING beats a Shimano...low too high...best there is..period...have 25 yr old reels that are still silky smooth and NEVER a failure ever
😂😂
I may have gotten a little more distance out of a couple of my Diawas, but I've never gotten the durability and dependability out of anything like I have from my Shimano reels.
The only thing I think that beats a BIG chunk of shimanos reels is the Zillion.
25 yr old reel that are still silky smooth?i guess you fish once a year 😂😂😂
I've had Curados and SLX's that were geary and loud after a year of use even with proper maintenance. They all wear out eventually.
Daiwa Tatula 103 SV TW best bang for 200 bucks on sale at bass pro for 149.00
I have the one hundred it's the best tatula
My revo sx wont cast that far for some reason.
If you put a little oil and not grease on the side plate metal ring you'll get further
@ thank you. I’ll try that
I’m eye balling that SV 100. Jerkbaits. Think it’ll do it. Jerk bait. 🤔🤔
