I visit Ameyoko every time I go to Tokyo. Normally because I bought too many souvenirs and need another bag to lug it all home. This is probably the best place to get cheap luggage among other things. The food is also an excellent value and very delicious. An often ignored Asian / international market is located underground, below the center building. This underground market is one of a few places in Tokyo known to stock halal foods.
My brother told me about it when he went to japan. Sadly he will not take me nor teach me japanese saying i was annoying. I hope i can go when i am older (with my bff's).
KLEY MOORE :That certainly is an option. It's a difficult balancing act of size, weight and cost. In most cases mailing it home would be very expensive. For example, this most recent trip i brought home a Balmuda Toaster, a Takoyaki grill and a ton of candy and cosmetics for friends and family. My Delta Sky Miles lets me take 3 over-weight bags with me so buying an extra suitcase for $25 is a better option.
i want to visit Japan so badly 😣 that Takoyaki looks amazing, they are big, good priced balls, and you can put the sauce + katsuboshi on it by yourself...yum 😍 oh and that deep fried cheese 😉
Im not fancy enough to travel to this amazing country and have the best connection you could have to a foreign culture, so I couldnt be any more thankful that these videos are out there!
Congratulations on another great film about the hidden wonders of Japan. This place is being added to my Tokyo adventure list for when I (one day soon) cone to explore. Fried cheese, katsudon and all that candy, YES PLEASE!!!
Kaisendon! Not Katsudon. Katsudon is a totally different dish involving cutting up and frying pork cutlet served over rice with a tangy sauce, and an egg cracked over the whole thing. In fact there are several videos on TH-cam that show you how to make katsudon if you're interested. It's actually pretty easy to make. Just make sure that you know the difference before you go to Japan, after all, you don't want to accidentally get the wrong dish.
Awesome!!! Definitely Japan is in my bucket list, I enjoy watching your videos every time you upload here in your main channel and when you do the live streams in your second channel. Keep the good work, your content is amazing. Thanks as always John. ☺️
I was sitting here with my mom; we had just finished sharing a bowl of pho and a banh mi when I got a notification that you were live on Instagram. Haven’t watched the full video yet; we will when we get home. We’re stuffed but I suspect we’ll be hungry after the episode!
ok you hit all of my favorite foods in one vid-- cheesy potatoes, takoyaki (!!!!), sushi!, oysters, AND chocolate. shaved ice is pretty amazing too. i need to go here.
We need a John Daub for every nation on the planet! I love your videos! Really appreciate how you present your experiences in Japan. I could easily go and enjoy the things you do, but I could never present it to an audience the way you do. Thank you for doing this all these years John!
Jason Bourgeois thank you Jason for the nice letter you sent Gretchen. She sent me a photo of it - she was glowing! Very thoughtful :) she 150% appreciated it according to her Instagram message!
@@WaoryuONLYinJAPAN Thank you for passing that info along John. Am pleased to hear Gretchen liked it. This community is so great and Gretchen (and John Pawbs 🐻) is one of the reasons, an inspiration to us all.
What I like about your videos is how you show people from outside Japan that the people are not so formal, and there is a fun element to Japanese culture..

Honestly John, your videos are always like an entire travel experience themselves! They are so informative and they always leave me wanting for more :-) That street food looked amazing, but was the Korean cheese stand really named Arirang Hot Dog? :D That's how you know it's definitely Korean :D
Thanks for listing prices, helps a lot. You are the real MVP! just one question, I don't know any japanese, will that make it difficult to shop around that area?
Which street food was your favorite? Which would you avoid? 😂 leave me a comment below. If you’ve been here before, what was your favorite street food? Share your experience and I’ll pin the best one to the top tomorrow! Ameyoko is (without a doubt) the best street food market in Tokyo! -John😋
John, Love the Hyperlapse intro of your walk in Ameyoko. What you covered are places that I and perhaps any Foodie tourist would be interested in visiting Tokyo, Japan especially the shop where one could find discounted food items to take home as souvenirs. Great video that targets the Food Travelers.
