  • Thanks for tuning into my podcast! I am your host, Diana Hawthorne, and I am obsessed with wool. I do all types of fiber crafts but I spend more time knitting, spinning, and mending than anything else. I also machine knit, sew, crochet, weave, quilt, felt and dye as well so any of the above may come up on my channel.
Find me on Instagram and Ravelry as Delaware Spinster!
    FOs:
    - First hand knit sock! It’s sock week and I finished a sock by hand - Summer Lee’s Afterthought Heel sock as a shortie with self striping sock yarn by Tia’s Terrific Threads (Beach Please) and contrast yarn from Nanette Wake Studio.
    - Granny Square baby blanket with Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend (Chai Latte) and Hobbii Twister (Sunset) finished with a crab stitch border.
    - Hand dyed sweater quantity in Knomad Ivory.
    WIPs:
    - Still working on knitting the Handspun dress and Scotch Broom top by Wool & Pine. Still spinning all of my projects that I shared during Tour de Fleece.
    - Advent plan with coordinating yarn and snacks for my household - I talked about dyeing a lot today because I have been just having a ton of fun dyeing this week.
    - Continued sock knitting since I only made one sock last week!
    - Mending projects including socks and jeans.
    Acquisitions:
    - Summer Lee’s book The Sock Project - this helped me get excited about trying different basic socks this week!
    - Undyed yarns from knomad for the purpose of advent season. I got cones of fingering weight sock yarn (Snowdrift Select) and lace weight mohair silk (Cirrus) to use as background yarn or hold with the advent skeins.
    - Preorders - I am very excited about my plans for my own advent as well as other purchased indie dyer advents. I have been curating a collection of yarn and have almost no “minis” so I am embracing the yarn advent idea and starting to plan patterns! I love a scrappy, marled, gradient project!

I am not sure anyone uses yarn as fast as they think they will. 😂

Hi, thanks for sharing your makes. Out of curiosity, what kind of machine do you use to crank socks?

Hi! I got my CSM last year and it is an Erlbacher Speedster which I absolutely love. It feels like it will hold up for my whole lifetime, and that was my goal. I know plenty of people have been thrilled with other CSMs too, and I’m glad there are more options now than when I started looking. I saved up for this after seeing it years ago in person and it certainly is living up to my expectations!

@@DelawareSpinster thank you, this is helpful. I love to hand knit socks, but it would be so nice to have the option to also crank some at times. I've been looking at Erlbacher and almost have enough saved. My hesitation is - not sure how difficult it will be to teach myself to use it. Thanks again.

@@lauried1919There is a learning curve, but they include a really helpful manual and Greyson is super responsive. I found it took a few tries for sure but I think it is definitely a skill you can learn from a book and online videos!
