  • Thanks for tuning into my podcast! I am your host, Diana Hawthorne, and I am obsessed with wool. I do all types of fiber crafts but I spend more time knitting, spinning, and mending than anything else. I also machine knit, sew, crochet, weave, quilt, felt and dye as well so any of the above may come up on my channel.
Find me on Instagram and Ravelry as Delaware Spinster
No FOs or WIPs today! Just sharing my haul from Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. I had a great time working the fleece sale and hanging out with other wool lovers, and I was able to get a lot of yarn, tools, and treats that I wanted as well.
    Acquisitions:
    - Kim Dyes Yarn - spinning fiber in "Bunch of Zinnias" "Moody Forest" "Mushroom Hunting", a skein of Streusel Boucle in " Mushroom Hunting" and a sweater quantity of Smoothie silk linen yarn in "Moody Forest"
    - Jill Draper Makes Stuff - Kingston DK Targhee yarn in "Elmendorf" "Flatbush" "Gage" and "Forsyth"
    - Jennie the Potter - MDSW mug
    - The Lion Potter - honey, pumpkin butter, soaps
    - WeeOnes - MDSW stitch marker
    - Good Time Health - hibiscus earth tea infused with mushrooms (I tried it today and liked it!)
    - Fleece show and sale - a beautiful Romney fleece! Still cleaning this and will share more in future podcast episodes as I work with it
    - Daedalus - not pictured - my big acquisition was a Daedalus Magpie with Aqua trim and I am very excited to be spinning on it already
Feel free to share any comments or questions!

I’m so glad to find your podcast… we want the spinning😉. I was at MSW and bought 2 fleeces.., absolutely great fleeces and the vacuum pack was so helpful… thank you!

Oh yay! I think the fleeces at MD Sheep and Wool have been fantastic and I expect that will continue! I am so happy to be part of the spinning community so I'm glad you are here too!

What shawl pattern did Jill use for her Kingston?

I think the sample I saw in person was her "Distant Mountain" design which is available in an e-book on Ravelry.

Just curious.. what did you pay for your fleece? I raise Romney and cvm romedale, and am selling some this year…

Hi! Prices are highly variable from what I have seen. This fleece was 7 lbs and $120 (which we split 2 ways) I don't always pay that much but it has 4-5 inch staple, had been coated and had very little vm, was well skirted, has a softer hand than a lot of Romney I have spun, and we both felt it was worth that price. I would love to hear more about your cvm romeldale since I don't currently have a cvm fleece but I am on the look out for that!

I have totally charged way to little in the past. I’ve also wanted to sell it, but it is heavily skirted. I asked 10.00/pound. The whole fleece for 8/ pound. The fleece are roughly 6 pounds. The cvm fleece are beautiful, so very soft

It sounds like you could make more on these fleeces especially if they are well skirted. Best of luck! Keep me in mind when you are selling the cvm especially!

I am going out to skirt them this afternoon. I’ll take some pics😉
