Animal Crossing: City Folk - A Day in Forest (30 minutes of gameplay)

  • What's my typical ACCF gameplay session like? This video will show you, although I did encounter something I rarely see in this game. But I also speak with villagers (and meet a former starter who has returned), check the shops, do a favor or two, get an item from a special visitor, find the money rock, visit the city, and more.
    This video has over 30 minutes (32 minutes, to be exact) of continuous, uninterrupted gameplay, with no mid-roll ads. Even though I share my thoughts in on-screen text, I have not added any sound effects or other edits. So if you'd like to have a half-hour of old-school Animal Crossing gameplay sounds/music for background noise, this should be perfect for that.

    I want to get this game and I don’t know whether or not I should get a Wii to play it or a Wii U, I know it works on both but is there anything extra you have to do for the Wii U or is it basically the same except you need a Wii controller? Please tell me what I should choose maybe give me a pros and cons of both or something (sorry about this long message)

    • @jvgsjeff
      @jvgsjeff  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you'd need a Wii controller still, but it's otherwise the same. You do have to go to the Wii menu first though, you can't load Wii games directly from the Wii U menu. But that just takes like five extra seconds.
      Advantage to Wii U: Uses HDMI cable for better picture quality (vs. composite/component on Wii)
      Adventage to Wii: You'll be able to find a Wii for much cheaper than a Wii U.

    For anyone wondering, I believe the reason why there are so many paths is because of “animal tracks”, a feature unique to city folk and new leaf, but worse in city folk. Every time the player walks over a patch of grass, it will deteriorate until it becomes dirt. The idea was that players would create paths following their daily routes, but for people who play the game a lot, it can lead barren patches of dirt. Let me know if I made a mistake here. I don’t have much experience with city folk.

    It's really interesting to get a chance to sit down and see all the variety in NPC interactions NH lacks, but also the anachronistic mechanics and features that the newer games clean up and make more manageable. Thanks for another great video, Jeff!

    city folk was my first animal crossing, so it holds so much nostalgia for me. i love the simplicity of the game, it really feels like animal crossing at its core: making friends with the neighbours, planting trees, breeding flowers, catching bugs and fish... i really love it. and the music! its all so great. thanks for this, Jeff!

    You're not alone...I don't like requests for specific things either. And when I do eventually find the thing they want, they tell me to forget about it, because I took too long to complete the request. To make matters worse, they have to walk off angry or sad. Why can't they understand that these requests are almost impossible?
    I remember when I only just got lucky to find a T. rex skull that Merry the cat asked for.

    I notice that town doesn't have the final Nook store upgrade (IIRC you can change it on occasion though when Nook does his "sigh" animation) - but for all those lamenting that they can't get the upgrade with the official servers being down, it IS possible to get it using a second Wii / WiiU and any model of DS (including 2DS and 3DS) - just load up City Folk on the other Wii system and choose "DS Briefcase" when speaking to the guards at the town gate. Now select "Download Play" on you DS and you'll be able to use the DS system to temporarily move a character over to another town for a single visit.
    Just boot up City Folk on the system you want to unlock Nookingtons on and choose "DS Briefcase" when starting up and follow the instructions. Just use that character as normal, and buy a single item out of the Nook's store, then send them back to their original town.

It's unfortunate I don't have my copy of the game any longer, but even just hearing the animals speaking in this and how villagers would go straight into dialogue remind me of the Iwata Asks interviews where the developers discussed changes they put into it. How does it work for a villager like Gabi who once lived in a town to move back in? do you have to cycle through a bunch of new villagers or is it purely random?

    • @jvgsjeff
      @jvgsjeff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not entirely sure, but I think there must be a cycle of some sort. Because when former villagers have returned, it's always been at least 4-5 years later (and usually much longer than that).

    Oh no, Harry lives also in your town? He is why I currently don't play. 😅 I like Gabi though. One of my starters in NL.

    • @jvgsjeff
      @jvgsjeff  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But if you don't play, Harry won't have a chance to move out. 😛 This town is from the game's launch (November 2008). I've reverted the shop to Nook 'n' Go because it has better hours (open until 1 a.m.). The tiny house you see at 11:03 is an empty house; mine has been fully expanded for many years.
