The goal is to get 21 or to be the closest to it, anything above 21 is a bust and you'd immediately lose they're the basic rules it goes deeper though I'd suggest looking into it if your interested

Well many casinos are now doing dealer hits soft 17 as it gives them a slightly better edge over the player, although I will say you most likely won’t see it in a high roller room.
