This was on a VHS tape I got at a Blockbuster in Buena Park, California. That tape also contained two other parodies: Hardware Wars and Porklips Now. Thank God for the internet bringing such historical treasures to contemporary society!
I too saw this in the 80’s as a kid. I have alwayed quoted: “this means something” in the voice of this character. Today my wife saw it for the first time and she finally gets to see where I got it from. My life is complete now.
My brothers and I still occasionally sing the mailbox "Gotta build a mountain..." song. Our wives are convinced mental illness runs in the family ... they may be onto something.
I remember seeing this when I was a kid. For decades all I could remember was the bubbles in the truck scene but no one else ever knew what I was talking about. Good to have finally seen this to show everyone!
I’m actually in this “movie” 👍 - it was filmed at my Godfather’s House. My father was the special effects and producer.... I still love mashed potatoes :)
Corey Burton did the narration and all the voices for every character in this film. He went on to do the voices for Shockwave(Transformers), Captain Hook, Buzz Light Year and tons of Disney cartoons. He's amazing!
THANK YOU! I’ve been looking for this forever. I used to watch it in the early 80’s on a VHS tape called Hardware Wars and other film farces. The voice dubbing is still hysterical!!
This is a classic. There was another parody made around the same time called "Hardware Wars", a spoof of Star Wars. Check it out if you have not seen it before.
My favorite....."Brown ALERT, Brown Alert!" It'll leave you speechless with sheer naked horror! He "blows" out the flashlight after Vader! So many GREAT things in this film... All of it.
I was introduced to this in high school in the late 90s. Our art teacher sometimes had crazy videos to show us and on an off day nears the years end he played this. The whole class was losing it laughing. We all requested it the next few classes. I heard several kids ask if they could buy it for him and others wanted to take it home to make a copy for themselves.
HBO memories. This was put on when a movie finished with a few minutes to spare before the next one started at the top of the hour. My favorite parts still, the singing mailboxes, the French scientist, (who must have grew up where Steve Martin's wild and crazy guy did lol) and the musical number with the mothership pie. I didnt care how many times I saw this as a kid, as soon as I heard that fanfare at the start, I could be in the next room and would run as fast as I could to do a home run slide on the brown shag carpet in the living room to end up in front of the zenith floor model tv.
As a kid my sister and I watched this 5 seconds 1:03 over and over and over and over and laughed our asses off. I think at the time it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen in my entire life and the nostalgia is just unbelievable.
I love hardware wars and this one omg takes me back to being a kid back in the late 70s 77-78 I was like 10-11 year's old and we saw this elementary school OMG too funny 🤣🤣 good ol comedy hands down 💯 thank you for This 💯
For some bizarre reason, this video popped into my head while driving home from work tonight. But the name of it wouldn't come to me right away. Finally, as I was taking the elevator up to my apartment, it came to me: Closet Cases of the Nerd Kind! I Google searched it as soon as I walked in the door and here it was. Such a classic parody!
I somehow missed this growing up, even if "Real People" had played "Hardware Wars". ... ... ...man, that first musical connection with the mother pie sure had a good techno beat. It NEEDS a remix.
I've loved this since I first saw it at a Star Trek convention in the early 80s. It has made me laugh far more than 3.14159265 times, especially when that vicious shark shows up. The movie "Mr. Mom" ripped off the "Jaws" vacuum cleaner gag. The expression "brown alert" was adopted by my group at work for when management "movements" were questionable.
I saw this YEARS ago in '79 or '80. We lived in Idaho and it was on tv! I never knew the name of it and had NO idea what it was spoofing because I'd never seen the real film. I'm glad to have seen it again.
I saw speilberg and lucas in the 80' movies that inspired me to become a movie director ...this short sold me..and gave me hope..it was priceless and still is.
I just realized, I've been saying "these lights are so bright!" and "zut alors!" in that funny voice for years, and had forgotten they were from this film!
My first time seeing this was HBO like early 80s it just brings so many memories.. I always like the part Darth Vader on the motorcycle and says you're blocking the road..😅😂🤣😭👽
Gonna build a mountain . . . (scatting) Gonna build a mountain (gonna build a mountain) in your living room (in your living room) you’re gonna build a mountain (gonna build a mountain) and it’s gonna be keen!
Here’s one I totally forgot! But the pies in the face and especially the mailboxes were still there in my memory. Definitely saw this once or twice on HBO back in the good old days.
Since this video use to air on cinemax, I think that voice has been in the silly part of my personality and sometimes vocabulary from time to time, and in the guys voice, "What does this mean!!" , with an annunciation on the "N" in mean. lol.
While this is definitely higher resolution than others I've found, the color is pretty degraded, and it's cropped quite a bit. Is there a better film transfer somewhere?
"Excuse me, Mr Sanitation Worker, S'ara Loo anywhere 'round here?" ----------- "What does it mean?" Not a double rainbow in sight **sigh** ----------- The epitome of evil represented by 3 legends: Derpth Vader, J'ause 2, & Penny-why's ----------- Steve Erkle was in this 11:50 ----------- Singing mailboxes that resemble bouncing magic mushrooms Dang! This film has it all!
Good stuff I was 12 watching this as a kid laughing my butt off! Coooooooo caaaaaaaaa COOOOOOOOOOO CAAAaaaaaa your blocking the road! Darth Vader on Harley!!!!!!!
Mashed potatoes! I say this in a squeaky feminine voice every time I see it on my dinner plate since the first time I ever saw this in my 6th grade classroom in the late 70s.
This was on a VHS tape I got at a Blockbuster in Buena Park, California. That tape also contained two other parodies: Hardware Wars and Porklips Now. Thank God for the internet bringing such historical treasures to contemporary society!

Man, that Anakin Skywalker could sure pilot a mean Harley. 🏍️

Lol I quote the same part but I could never remember what it was from.
I remember seeing this when I was a kid. For decades all I could remember was the bubbles in the truck scene but no one else ever knew what I was talking about. Good to have finally seen this to show everyone!
The bubbles are from the Lawrence Welk Show.
I've been singing the "Mountain" song for almost 40 years!! My kids are grown now and still don't know why! Bwahahahahahaha
This means something......
Us too!! My siblings and I do it every time we're together!
Gonna build a moun-tain....
This is absolute perfection. Watched it a million times as a kid, and I might enjoy it even more as an adult.
Brilliant.
Thank you!!
I saw this back in the mid 80's when cinemax would show this type of stuff between movies. What a blast from the past!
I think HBO had some of these too. They were do funny.
I remember seeing it on HBO. A classic
Yeah I think I saw this on HBO
Lol this, Hardware Wars and Bambi vs Godzilla lmao
First time I saw it, it might have been on HBO. They showed these between movies
I’m actually in this “movie” 👍 - it was filmed at my Godfather’s House. My father was the special effects and producer.... I still love mashed potatoes :)
Kristen Anderson Thanks awesome! My brothers and I quoted this film for years. “Mashed Potatoes” was our favorite!
Do you appear in this? If so, where?
Where do you show up in the video?
That's freaking awesome. It's been a favourite of mine since I was tiny!
This means something!
I missed those singing mail boxes, good times 🙂👍
Corey Burton did the narration and all the voices for every character in this film. He went on to do the voices for Shockwave(Transformers), Captain Hook, Buzz Light Year and tons of Disney cartoons. He's amazing!
There were two voice actors, actually. The other was Sandy Stotzer.
It sounds More like The Late Hans Conried narrating this piece.
I remember seeing this on a VHS rental tape from the video, which also had Hardware Wars.
@@collegeman1988 it was on VHS , distribution through Warner Home Video/WCI
OG Shockwave was Frank Welker. It's basically his Dr. Claw voice with a vocoder effect. He's demoed the voice at cons.
Awesome to see a watchable print of this classic. Mine was a fifth generation 6 hour VHS bootleg. Thanks Gator!
I haven’t seen this in about 40 years and it’s even better than I remember it. Genius.
My favorite....."Brown ALERT, Brown Alert!"
It'll leave you speechless with sheer naked horror!
He "blows" out the flashlight after Vader!
So many GREAT things in this film... All of it.
Somewhere in a box in my storage, this MASTERPIECE is enshrined, in it's original glory, on a BETA tape, recorded so many years ago.
I could literally post this exact same comment without lying.
@@Shutterbun4 Any chance of either of you uploading it?

The singing mailboxes. 😂
"This means something!" has stuck with me for years!
I distinctly remember watching this in primary school. They pulled out the old projector and played this, as well as Hardware Wars.
And HBO classic from the early '80s. So many memories attached to this one. Thanks for the upload!
I remember in the 80s watching HBO, funniest thing ever.
You just don't see this kind of creativity anywhere today.
I remember watching this as kid all the time on HBO...Still hilarious!!!
I remember seeing this at Ad Astra Con in Toronto. I had forgotten all about it! Thanks!!!
It's weird that this video played House Music 3 years BEFORE House Music came out!!!!!!
I'm here for the singing mailboxes. And the dancing railroad sign.
Love the Singing Mailboxes! Gotta build a mountainnnnnn in your living room!

They had this on HBO and I remember my mom cracking up when she saw those mail boxes singing
I love those singing mailboxes! They're so cute!
"Gonna build a mountain" has lived in my head rent free for 4 decades
The Railroad Crossing sign always makes me laugh so hard I pee.
You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll kiss 10 bucks goodbye!!!

It all came full circle, didn't it? 🤠
Just showed my wife this video. We both started singing "Rock n' roll Martian" when the monkey appeared.

We used to have sleep overs as kids and would laugh so hard when they would play this sometimes on Saturday nights. Good Times!❤ wow!
I just realized, I've been saying "these lights are so bright!" and "zut alors!" in that funny voice for years, and had forgotten they were from this film!

This was the best blast from the past!
I never got the "pi/pie" joke when I was a kid.
The narrator is possibly the best.. ever!!

Here’s one I totally forgot! But the pies in the face and especially the mailboxes were still there in my memory. Definitely saw this once or twice on HBO back in the good old days.
In the mid 1980s, we rented a videotape of movie parodies that had this film, Hardware Wars and Bambi versus Godzilla.
oh I KNEW I wasn't crazy when I saw this as a kid!!
I`ve been saying "mashed potatoes" and "this means something" since I first saw this as a short on HBO in 1980!!! First time I`ve seen it since!
My favorist part was the dancing and singing of the mailboxes!
Wow, great quality. Thanks for this.
The guy doing the French scientist is playing him as Steve Martin, doing his "wild and crazy guys", act from SNL.
I wish Great Movie Stores Done Tacky was real.
Been looking for this, thank you:)
This is better than the movie!
I think I've conflated this with the movie it parodies in my memory!
First time seeing this. Datsun radio in a dodge truck....must have been an upgrade
The 80’s Steve Martin influence looms large in this.
These lights are SOOOOOOOO bright!

The vaccum cleaner with the Jaws theme, didn't "Mr. Mom" do that?
One of the best of all time
I loved this on HBOwhen I was a kid
Thanks for uploading! I could not stop laughing it up so much!
I was a scientist before I became a bad actor.

During the mailbox scene; why does the truck radio say Datsun? I didn’t think they made big trucks
It only took me 43 years to get the Pi joke. Also the first House tune?
I made my kids watch this. Now we can't eat mashed potatoes without saying, "This means something..."
