    Dude you have me sold. So much SUV for the money. I want black with red seats. It sounds amazing and so many useful features with a great layout.
    Funny you mentioned the A/C struggles at first to cool it down. I've oddly noticed that about many Honda vehicles. Love the thigh extensions, the camera button on the wiper stick, the pop up charger. If ot we're a Jag or BMW it would be like 120k.

    Hey Mike, we currently have a Silver Type S Advance on order with the Blue Leather. I did notice, when we test drove, the touch pad mimics the screen. No need to swipe. Just press on the touch pad where the icon is corresponding to the screen. Very easy once salesman told us that. Cant wait to drive the Type S. Won't be getting it until at least January.
    Great Review, not many people have been doing them!

    I just bought a silver 2024 mdx awd type s adv package last week and the AC works great. Yesterday we got in it after sitting in the sun 90 degrees was so hot in the car but cooled off fast. I absolutely love this vehicle but if i had to change anything it would be to have the touch pad AND the screen be a touch screen. I wanted to purchase a 2024 bmw x4m and the dealership had the exact one i wanted but told me it was someones special order for $98k it was fully loaded ,So I told them if they don't pick up the car I will take it, he called me yesterday that they didn't take the car so its mine lol I told him your a week too late I ended up purchasing the MDX after I test drove it .I was sold and i saved over $25k not getting the BMW.

    I bought the MDX Type S Advance in May 2022 (in white -red interior). So far I have to say this is the best SUV that Acura has made which strongly competes with other luxury brands however, there are somethings that Acura missed with this car.
    First the bad.
    I think they missed the boat with this MDX Type S, as a Sport version of the MDX they should have given it at least 400HP and a higher top speed (again, there is an S in the name for a reason).
    With a top speed of only *111MPH* ,this is slower than most cars in the category and *slower* than the TLX Type S, of which it shares the same engine.
    With less than 400HP it has less power (while being somewhat heavy) than the Genesis or Audi Q7.
    Lastly, I hate the infotainment system - move it forward (closer to the driver) and make it a touch screen.
    Other than my issues above, I love this SUV, the massage seats, els sound system, air suspension, panoramic roof and interior space is very nice.

    • @theyadmire511
      @theyadmire511 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don’t think the Q7 is lighter than the MDX. The lightest Q7 weighs 4,817 lbs compared to heaviest MDX that weighs 4,788 lbs. I agree with you that the MDX should make more power 355 hp. 355 hp is ok for the TLX Type S but it doesn’t work as well in the MDX because the MDX is 500 lbs heavier. At the minimum Acura should have tuned this engine to put out 375+ hp in the MDX Type S and have the standard MDX use a 310 hp (with matching torque) version of the V6t instead of the NA V6.

    • @metamorphic75
      @metamorphic75 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theyadmire511 you are correct, the Audi Q7 is heavier than the MDX.

    • @wongchai807
      @wongchai807 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      355 for reliability most likely. Thry can always tune it up for newer models. The engine is built for much more power. There is a tune if you want to go that route.

    • @CoralSea
      @CoralSea ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do you think the AC is not cold enough? I test drove the regular MDX and I think the AC is not adequate for hot climate like TX. The vents are tiny and loud when I turn it up.

    • @metamorphic75
      @metamorphic75 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CoralSea this is the concern that I have heard before, however, so far I have not had a problem with the AC and it was really hot this summer (well, hot for PA).
      what I think is underpowered is the seat cooling - I can't really feel it but I do hear something, but I think it is ineffective.

  • @gestebu
    @gestebu ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Mike, that was such a good idea to show the phone on the dash. I expected it to vibrate off not long after you placed it there but, no, it stayed put. A testament to the ride smoothness. How did you feel about the bold blue exterior color? It's nice but is it something you might get tired of because it's so bold? I was disappointed to hear about the a/c system struggling to keep you cool. That's one reason I'm looking to upgrade from my 2018 Kia Sorento V6. It takes 20 minutes of steady driving to cool down sometimes.

  • @TheFragranceJock
    @TheFragranceJock ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I have this same spec, only it's a 2022(Apex Blue, White interior w/Advance Package). My only complaints are the gas consumption and it could have a smidge more power too. Otherwise, I love it!

    • @boozmd12
      @boozmd12 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really? That's crazy as Honda makes the best engines in my opinion. I wonder why it is so bad? I mean Honda and Acura aren't really known for high horse power, maybe that's the reason. It's what like 380hp? How is the shifting with it? Is it smooth and quiet?

    Great review, extremely detailed. Being the flagship to Honda, Acura is no doubt a premium product but $72.5k is reaching unattainable for most people... borderline ridiculous.
    One note about road noise, looking at the window sticker and seeing 21 inch tires is absurd. Being an "S" type i get it supposed to be Sporty, but 21 inch rims leaves very little rubber between the rim and the road, hence 40 series tires. 19 inch rims with 50 or 55 series would be better

    • @ii_dynasty
      @ii_dynasty ปีที่แล้ว

      30k miles in 3 years is definitely not gonna be half. It's more like 10-15k off in 3 years. And you gotta be old to think 21/40 isn't enough, or maybe your roads are just bad. The Accord has 19/40, putting bigger tires isn't gonna help much, the suspension still does all the work.

    • @stephendibari5010
      @stephendibari5010 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ii_dynasty you’re right on the depreciation. I revised my comment. The amount of rubber between the rim and the road makes a huge difference in ride comfort. My 2002 Lexus ES300 Has OEM 60 series 16 inch rims. Don’t feel anything compared to a tire with 40 series on a 19 inch rim.

    • @ohrandyrandy
      @ohrandyrandy ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TaiwanGolfer Love it John. The fuel economy sucks but all my cars are like that. This SUV’s ride rivals the best in ANY class. The drive modes are noticeably discrete, the air suspension is smooth, the drivetrain can be luxury or sporty, and it looks like a million bucks.
      I can’t recommend the base MDX because it’s sluggish and the brakes are crappy. In fact, I would even say pass on the base MDX Type S because for an extra 5-grand you get more than FIFTEEN extra features in the Advance trim… a real bargain for 75K, IMO.

    Mike, great overview of the MDX Type S. I watched the two videos while on vacation at Oak Island last week. Funny to see you driving around just south of there around Ocean Isle! The two videos on this vehicle are very helpful in learning about the features. I really appreciate you taking the time to do such a detailed analysis. I've looked at every SUV similar to this one - Genesis, Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volvo and even others in my opinion not in this league - Palisade, Telluride, Highlander, Sequoia, Tahoe, etc., and have determined the MDX Type S is the best value for quality coupled with performance. It looks like it will give my 3.0 liter Audi a run for its money. Looking forward to putting it to the test.

Also with Type-s Advance it missed digital rear view mirror :( which is a common feature in most of the cars of this segment.

      @Snookynibbles ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Intriguing how pickups & SUVs (conventionally based on a truck chassis) are measured against breakneck acceleration speeds when they're primarily people & gear haulers for soccer moms, not sports cars. Also, understand that the Type S badge intent is to differentiate itself from the base model. The base MDX 290 hp V6 clocks 0-60 at around 6.5; the S model is good for ~ 5.8 to 6 seconds. Either model features plenty enough power for legitimate road purposes. Seriously, are 5 seconds & under in a SUV chassis really essential?...practical, even safe? Get a sports sedan or sports car.
      OK, for the small crowd that must, 'P2R Power Rev Racing' already offers mods that assuredly boosts your Type S power north of 400 hp.

    • @Snookynibbles

      @@theyadmire511 ...when modded., Yes, reiterating, the Honda J30AC engine is capable of well over 400 hp with mods presently available; new mods will continue to become available. “P2R Power Rev Racing” is the manufacturer of several of these available mods. The “Science of Speed” co. also makes the JB4 engine tune kit that’s calibrated for the new Honda engine.
      The new Honda engine has been described as capable of handling way more power than per the factory stock level. The block was built particularly strong with 6-bolt main caps whereas the Honda V6 J series SOHC motors were not built for extreme power mods though there are builds extracting substantial extra hp from those engines.

    If Acura added a hybrid option to the new Acura MDX, they would have sold a lot more. Missed opportunity.

    • @SFAvgeek
      @SFAvgeek ปีที่แล้ว

      They discontinued hybrid because they wanted only Honda to do hybrid and Acura to do full electric

    This is on par with the luxtory of a GLE 450, priced WAY above this mdx type s, I’ve seen this said MANY times about this car, if you car mostly about speed, and 0-60, go get a bmw……. If you want a healthy mixture of speed and Luxury get a Mercedes, if you want speed, luxury, and reliability, get a mdx type s😂

    For that price-point, the mere fact that Acura is still slapping their NAV/infortainment tablet atop their dashboard instead of taking the time to actually incorporate it into the console - hard pass.

    My 2015 MDX tail light looks a little better than those 2023 MDX type r taillights still am loving those quads tip's and the new front grill in black 🖤 over all 🚒 this looking super nice 🙂 interior and exterior great 👍 reviewed still learning mine

      The taillights look wayyyyy better in person. They're quasi '3-D' (think Mercedes S-Class rear lights or Porsche).

    Makes no sense that Acura underpowered there Type S line up. EV's are on the way, just let ICE go out with a bang! Should have dropped in NSX engine without the electric motors. TLX & MDX Type S's should have been banging out 500hp. If they thought that's too much, they could have detuned them to 450hp. But why, at least, couldn't they gave 400hp!!

    That front emblem and the center of the grill looks absolutely hideous how big they make the A. I wish they were old school size from the early 90s.

      Better than the stupid looking sensor shield on the TLX. I'll take the big emblem over that shield any day. Looks like dog shit.

      The size is necessary to hide sensors.

      I just bought a 2023 Honda pilot trail sport for 50,000 😆 practically makes sense. The performance of the MDX type S sucks in my opinion. If your looking for Performance for 70,000, get a trail hawk. 700-800hp that's getting your money's worth for a Performance vehicle 😃
