Bought a 1 year old one, 2k on the clock. Saved a third o the list price. Cheaper tax and insurance than audi and more stylish. Very happy with it and plan to keep it forever
Lol I just drove one before hahah. My dad bought a white one 3-4 months ago, we had a Jetta 8.5 yrs well looked after and got written off then dad bought the Arteon amazing car very smart well priced and for its size it gets up and moves. We all love it, myself Mum and of course dad :) It has the styling pack so 20 inch wheels, sunroof and upgraded stereo awesome car
It is truly to my eyes one of the best looking cars on the road. Pricing in SA is tough, but consider it as a Golf R with a GT body rather than a performance Passat and it makes a little more sense. You could compare it to the Audi A4/5 but neither at the price point will give the all wheel drive or power figures. Compare the Passat to an Audi A4 and you have a clear winner as a value proposition, but it's never been a great seller and I fear neither will the Arteon. We expect our Volksies cheap!
Just a few corrections: -> A4 is MLB.Evo, A5 is MLB, - which are longitudinal engine placement platforms. VW Arteon is MQB, and the engine sits transversely. Not the same. maybe that explains the difference in comfort even better. -> The interior of the Arteon is actually most like the Passat's. The analog clock is therefore not unique to the Arteon.
It's too expensive but man it looks good with black wheels and gold paint. I don't see the problem with having Golf 7 bits in it. Golf 7 is a quality product unlike the Focus
The Arteon in Poland starts at +- R460.000 with a 1,5TSi 110kW engine, 6 speed manual box and front wheel drive and... it doesn't ride on 20" rims... :) wonder why VWSA doesn't bring the cheaper models of the Arteon range to SA. Surely that would boost the sales without being common?
But you do touch on the question many manufacturers answer wrongly and then cancel sales in this country when the car isn’t successful. People want certain things that carmakers intentionally ignore then scratch their heads when cars fail to sell. This is a stunning car still, but it’s tough to convince people to ignore the “premium” germans for the price they’d pay for this.
@@mlulekideandladla There are luxury cars, there are budget cars, but there are also just normal car as well. This is not a luxury car. This is just a normal car. I have one of these with a 2.0, 140kW engine. It’s just a normal car. Better looking than my previous Passat B8, but still not a luxury car. I guess the pricelist as of February 2022 in SA proves a point. I don't see the Arteon in the SA pricelist anymore. I guess other people also realised that this is not a luxury car and just didn't buy it. This time VWSA not only shot their foot. They took the whole knee cap off... :) :)
We’re do u get this info from? The Arteon Is certainly not based on the Audi A4 or A5? Audi is based on the MLB platform were this is based on MQB? Hence the different ride quality..
Thank you for your review. I am in the US and patiently waiting for the release of the Arteon in late summer. I am also looking at a $50k pre-owned '18 Audi A4 (with less than 10k miles). Pricing I have seen for the A4 currently ranges from $36.5k to $40.5k. If the Arteon is priced in that range, it will be hard for me to spend that much on a NEW VW. Knowing that most interior parts come from the Golf, it will be a tough decision. I am looking to purchase an AWD or 4 Wheel Drive car, but I am not set on just sedans. My ideal budget is not more than $35k in a couple of months. Time will tell.
I forgot to mention that certain features are a must such as: heated leather seats, heated steering wheel, upgraded sound system with sub woofer, advanced safety features like blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning and braking, keyless entry with remote start (at no extra cost), nice wheels, and reliable.
It's not the same MLB platform as Audi A4/A5. It's based off the MQB - same as golf/Audi A3 etc. If you look at the engine bay the engine is placed transversely as opposed to longitudinally in the Audi A4/A5.
And when ciro said this is the front door i thought he was going to open the bonnet, i love how this arteon's bonnet is designed and how "out of this world" it opens.
It's really a likable car... I'd choose it over its rivals really coz it's refreshing and different but at that price I'd wait for the upcoming Touareg...
I see there are many, I mean too many people who commented on this cars resale value back then, please comment below to let us know what you think now. It seems like it is performing better than it's equivalents of the time on its resale value. High mileage examples are going 470- R500k. Low mileage ones are selling anywhere from R 550k-R699k depending on spec and how low the mileage is. Now compare to this to the equivalents...
Just a tip: If you're gonna make car review videos, when describing the car's practicality and how much stuff you can throw in, instead of showing a profile view of you opening the boot, you should actually show the inside of the boot. Same for other things you mention, like the rear leg room.
Love to see review of 2023 version vs c class and a5, in Australia you can get a full spec arteon for 72k, a5 low spec 85k or loaded is 100k (discouned prices) c200 is 85k and c300 well over 100k and merc are now fixed price
I watched this video twice and just got that joke at the end. The VW accountants said, yeah, go find some parts and make it cheaper, then they all got in their Audis and went home. LOL! Great one!
Geno Chetty the cabin is nothing like the Passat. The cabin is a carbon copy of the mk7.5 gti and R. Basically what this car is is a golf R sedan. And when you think of it that way it actually makes sense.
We can't sell a Passat, what should we do? Let's launch and sell a CC at a higher price. Oh damn, we can't sell that too, what now? Let's launch Arteon and price it even higher. This is a great car that never sold
Matthew Savoy it would be great because the car itself is brilliant and VW makes great cars. Has VW regained the acceptance of the consumers in America?
That's a great feedback, nothing happened here in South Africa as well. Sales continued as normal. This Arteon is definitely not going to fly though at that price; Audi is too strong here then you have the popular C Class and 3 Series as options. It will struggle alongside the Infinity, Jaguar XE, etc.
It might be country dependent; here the C Class is one of the best in holding value and would no doubt beat the Arteon hands down in that regard. Also both cars would come with full maintenance plan for at least 5yrs which levels the playing field in maintenance cost. Beyond that, the Merc would still be comparable, unless you have to do a repair, then you would sweat
Damn you drive; you actually circle the earth twice in a year. I only do about 22,000 miles in a year. Anyway I accept that in America a C-Class will drop value much faster than the Arteon. Here if you bought the two cars on the same day and drove the same mileage, after a year the C-Class would still hold a much better value than the Arteon, by a long way
I would any day rather take the most expensive Passat - it's about R40 000 cheaper than the entry level Arteon. The interiors are very similar and that's what matters most to me. What I really don't like is that satnav is extra on both models. BMW now includes satnav as standard on all their new cars.
So the downside for this car really is price... I think if it was 500k with all the additions than it'd be a perfect option if you wanted something different than a BMW, Audi, Merc
I think it’s a better choice than The Golf R because it’s the same performance and it’s a bigger and more stylish sedan only for R35k extra. It might be better than the A4 and 3 series but still it won’t sell like the fusion and cc
I’d buy the Mini S Class ... Yes the C Class for that money! And there’s actually nothing wrong with the build quality of the C Class. You probably managed to get the very few that aren’t built well, something all manufacturers struggle with!
As someone who also doesn't reaaaaly identify with the usual luxury brands, I used to love the CC. But for 700k plus, I'd bargain with Volvo to give me a new S90 diesel sedan, instead of a Passat that consulted a grooming expert.
I do wonder how many more vehicles manufacturers would sell if cars were 5-10k cheaper than what they ask for and how much of a profit would offset the cheaper prices. Most cars are not worth the asking price.
I'm driving the 2018 Audi A5 252hp. The interior is way better than the Arteon, was thinking to buy the arteon when i was sitting in, it was not the same class like the Audi. The 280hp Arteon drives really well with the awd but its slower than the Audi even it has 28hp more.
Pete Sandov, kilowatts = horsepower, we generally use the term kilowatts in South Africa and not horsepower. One kilowatt is about just over 1.3 horsepower. He said 700,000 Rands, not ronm, (local currency). Hope that helps
Lol that's the beauty of globalisation. The other day one guy got confused with someone saying it's very hot, it's 32°. He was thinking Fahrenheit but we use Celsius here
If you wouldn’t have bunked science in school you would have known that the unit of power is a watt not a horse.... which is equal to one joule per second....
Interesting, you say that this will replace the cc, a favorite with the police. My mechanic has been trying to talk me into a used cc to replace my current car, a retired police cruiser. The Arteon is one of those cars that strikes me as trying to be something even tho there is every indication that the manufacturer is desperate that potential customers NOT see it as that something. The (excellent) reviewer uses the word "sporty" several times, yet by virtue of the styling and the price, VW wants customers to see it as a (near) luxury car. BTW, I like the idea of the large(r) sized hatchback sedan, but the rest of the car...? At least from the outside it looks like a Buick but as styled by the Koreans....kind of blah.
HERBERT leitner how so? A golf R is 600k. This is literally a golf R sedan with more features. With that said how is it overpriced? There are diesel versions for 200k less
Urban Chaos 2.0 "Millions of people buy the better car, I should buy the worse car to stand out to strangers and show them I'm different." Great logic 👍👍👍
Clearly VW forgot about the Phaeton disaster and how competing against your own luxury brand Audi is a failure. This car will without doubt have bad resale value with the likes of Passat - that said, its a beaut.
This reviewer should not be allowed to review a car since he clearly does not know what he is talking about. The A4 is not even in the same class (size wise) as the Arteon. The Arteon is closer in size to a full size car not an A4. The closest size Audi would be an A7 or A8 and when you compare the size of the vehicles. When the price of those cars is compared with the Arteon then it is clear that the Arteon is the better value.
Every audi has an equivalent VW which is exactly the same car, same engine, chasis, gearbox, drive train etc.. Just different body, badges and interiors. Same as Toyota - Lexus. Not in the same league as BMW, or even mercedes
Public Sector Direct sort of but not really...the smaller VW group cars, yes, but Audi larger cars are on a different (MLB) platform, which VW don’t use in their cars...the Arteon sits on a stretched Golf (MQB) platform and the A4/5 on the more expensive MLB with the engine sitting the other way, and hence different drive trains. Lexus is similar...the IS, RC and GS sit on a bespoke Lexus platform you won’t find under any mainstream Toyota; it’s too expensive.
Good comment, but I would add that there is no such thing as a stretched Golf platform. MQB is a standard, not a platform. It dictates the way the engine is positioned and allot of other things but other than that every car that uses the MBQ standard has it's own bespoke platform. Platform names are like A00, A0 (PQ2x), A(PQ3x) and are all MQB.
Even though your videos aren’t always relevant to someone like me who lives in the US, your quality and reviews are well done! Great channel!
Bought a 1 year old one, 2k on the clock. Saved a third o the list price. Cheaper tax and insurance than audi and more stylish. Very happy with it and plan to keep it forever
I,for one, will buy one. Gorgeous car! Sure not an Audi, but they are much more money and this car has all the looks. Love it!

I love this guys Reviews. There’s a hint of Sarcasm without being sarcastic

TOP QUALITY VIDEOS !!!
Great reviews, and great footage.
I hope cars.co.za makes it big internationally. Always great production
Its not all from a golf, its the complete Passat R Line interior!
Sarcastic, informative and captivating review. nice camera work. on point topic 'value for money'.

How do I get the upper LED strip to turn on? When does it turn on? Seems like the lower DRLs work but the upper no

That's what I thought as well. This thing is made using a stretched MQB platform
MQB platform?? But look at the chasis of this thing; It almost has the size of a new Lincoln Continental.
could've been...that last part, you definitely nailed it.
Great review Ciro! I think the Passat CC had a soul which this one lacks.
I love your reviews.
Thanks for the look!
Imagine the massive loss your going to take when you trade one of these in. The Jetta, Passat and CC had the most shocking resale values.
It would be a bloodbath, second hand buyers' paradise
You lease a VW, don't buy one
@Christopher Allen 😯😯😯
3 years later, what is your thoughts on the resale now?
Looks better than Audi
All of you don't want to say the truth
I would still choose this over a golf 7 r. This is so matured
"Just ask Ford what happened when they launched the Fusion"
And when ciro said this is the front door i thought he was going to open the bonnet, i love how this arteon's bonnet is designed and how "out of this world" it opens.
Would make a great used purchase, since depreciation would be heavy! Lots of bang for your buck then...
I saw one for the first time today, Black On Black at Dusk OOOHH BOY It Looked So Good :D I first thought it was an Audi S5/7
This is an MQB car not MLB
It's really a likable car... I'd choose it over its rivals really coz it's refreshing and different but at that price I'd wait for the upcoming Touareg...
Is it a sportback or a sedan? And what about the rear head room?
So, it’s a Jetta
Is this going to be the new fascia for VW sedans ?
I'd like to see a Passat with that front/rear in an R-Line package
Alex F The Passat will get the front in its facelift
I'll rather just have the golf R. Love your reviews mate, keep up the good work.
Couldn't stop staring at it's yellow gold version!
Work a bit harder and get an Audi S4, It's only R100k more but it has an Audi badge and around 40 more kw.
Zwivhuya Sivhabu Audi is Volkswagen so I guess people will think your cool except for everyone who knows Audi is Volkswagen 🤷♂️

MY '13 cc sport stick TSI is here to stay for me.
Analog clock from the passat :-)
Why didn’t he show the boot & the leg room he was on about 🤔
Please can you do a review on the new hilux dakar
Anyone noticed the engine light already on
Looks nice... however, cars in general are too expensive ! Arteon in particular.
I do wonder how many more vehicles manufacturers would sell if cars were 5-10k cheaper than what they ask for and how much of a profit would offset the cheaper prices. Most cars are not worth the asking price.
Saw one in a stealership yesterday … $51 000 Canadian dollars
😂😂😂stealership
700k probably an issue. You think?
R700.000 it is a issue
"I'm feeling...nnnnyyaahh about it" lol nice!
its basically a stretched posh Golf! Love your reviews though.
Yannick Co which A5 has 252hp?
It’s actually a hatchback not a sedan aka saloon as it’s known in the UK
NIce review, good looking car. I hope the next generation Golf borrows a lot of the front end styling from this new car!
its beautiful too expensive for a VW
But vw can be a lux car compared to other cars in its class...well atleast in usa
It's not just petrol that's expensive but even the cars are too now
So it's a Golf R/Audi S4 sedan.
This engine is transverley mounted in this VW. Definelty not based on the Audi A4 which is longitudinal. Ill take a rwd Kia Stinger over this plow
VW should make all their cars front ends look like the Arteon!
I'm so confused what do you mean kilowatts ?? It's electric?? and what do you mean 700,000 ronm?
Pete Sandov, kilowatts = horsepower, we generally use the term kilowatts in South Africa and not horsepower. One kilowatt is about just over 1.3 horsepower. He said 700,000 Rands, not ronm, (local currency). Hope that helps
Nhlanhla oooooooh got it lol was so confused
Lol that's the beauty of globalisation. The other day one guy got confused with someone saying it's very hot, it's 32°. He was thinking Fahrenheit but we use Celsius here
Pete Sandov approx $51,000 USD
If you wouldn’t have bunked science in school you would have known that the unit of power is a watt not a horse.... which is equal to one joule per second....
“MBQ” not “MLB”, get that right next time. Why would anyone even buy a rebadged CC over an A5?
Because it’s quicker and has better tech
Nice one.
I’ll pass on this model
Why spend twice as much money only to get an over priced golf
Mark Wagner Same reason people buy Audi's which are overpriced VW's with worse gas mileage.
so is no one gonna talk about how much this man looks like jimmy kimmel
Front reminds me of a newer chevy malibu
Interesting, you say that this will replace the cc, a favorite with the police. My mechanic has been trying to talk me into a used cc to replace my current car, a retired police cruiser.
The Arteon is one of those cars that strikes me as trying to be something even tho there is every indication that the manufacturer is desperate that potential customers NOT see it as that something. The (excellent) reviewer uses the word "sporty" several times, yet by virtue of the styling and the price, VW wants customers to see it as a (near) luxury car.

@6:27 Oh That's from a Passat
They should add new vw dashboard
I haven't even watched the video and I've already made up my mind. AUDI✌
2020 & these things cost R500K 2nd hand😬
Looks styled after the Audi A5
Not quite sure what or how to feel about it. It doesn't help much if you're not a VW fan 😏😏
Another good reason for the VW Executive executive being arrested - VW has lost the plot
HERBERT leitner how so? A golf R is 600k. This is literally a golf R sedan with more features. With that said how is it overpriced? There are diesel versions for 200k less
2024 I'm still here
BMW m4 convertible tempting but this car is sexy
I’ll have the bmw 4 series gran coupe, thank you.
Paddy Downey same, I got a 440i GC. No regrets
Like millions of other people. Therefore, making you look like an average consumer driving an average car.
Urban Chaos 2.0 "Millions of people buy the better car, I should buy the worse car to stand out to strangers and show them I'm different."
Great logic 👍👍👍
Urban Chaos 2.0 this is a Volkswagen review! a VW is hardly an alternative choice 😂
. . . Because a BMW is so much more reliable and cheaper to maintain than a VW?
I will see them in the showroom rather than on the road... Price is just utterly ridiculous!!!
Clearly VW forgot about the Phaeton disaster and how competing against your own luxury brand Audi is a failure. This car will without doubt have bad resale value with the likes of Passat - that said, its a beaut.
What is your thoughts on the resale now after 3.5 years? The car is holding its Valie better than any equivalent from then...
Imo the engines choices for "high class Arteon" are a joke - 200kw of what? Dreams?

Good comment, but I would add that there is no such thing as a stretched Golf platform. MQB is a standard, not a platform. It dictates the way the engine is positioned and allot of other things but other than that every car that uses the MBQ standard has it's own bespoke platform. Platform names are like A00, A0 (PQ2x), A(PQ3x) and are all MQB.
