thank for very detailed tutorial video on the workflow, but do you know why sketchup model imported in revit come in as a group or block instant? seem like I can't edit anything because it's locked
That's on Revit for them to handle however they do for other imported 3D elements. You have to explode the imports in order to edit in some ways. This is often not even allowed in some cases.
I use sketch up 2019 with newer version extension to open 2021 sketch up model from 3dwarehouse, then i save it in previous version of sketch up, still i am unable to open it in revit 2018! Please advise.
thanks so much i was in doubt to learn revit because i did exporting plans and sections in sketchup but in this workflow im interested in revit a lot, and a Question im working with 3ds max too any link managing and reloading in it?
Hi Joseph, this video is really helpful. Have you found a solution to the doubling up of 'materials' every time you import the model? My workflow is Microstation > export as Sketchup > import into Revit. I do all my material assignment in Revit. Every time I change something in the model and reload - a new blank material appears and disregards all of my previous materials. I would be really grateful, if you have found a workaround this issue! Thank you!
Great workflow, have you tried to add different section cut patterns to SketchUp model inside Revit? Ps. I also noticed there is a problem with non rectilinear geometry from SketchUp (cylinders, etc.)
I think you can set different patterns for imported elements. Yeah, the triangulation has been notorious problem for Revit. This is true to all foreign objects coming in to Revit.
@@JosephKim I'm sorry because I'm Vietnamese, so my interpretation is a bit confusing, I hope you can help. I draw a project entirely in sketchup, then I export to a revit file. The purpose of this is to help me have projections: plan, section, elevation of the building to present drawings. But I don't know how to turn groups or components in sketchup into walls, floors, roofs in revit. How can I then plot the positioning and dimensioning axes for the above views. Your channel is very useful for me, always support you since I know it.
Very good tutorial. DO you have any solution to import png or alpha channel texture in revit from sketchup for texture? I meen the texture of the trees in your example.
Joseph thanks, another very informative and helpful video. As I followed along using SU 2018 to Revit 2020 in a site context file (Caddmapper origin) buildings and curbs show up fine but other site context (road, rail, landscape outlines) do not. I've tried everything I can think of re-linking numerous times, grouping, exploding, un-hiding, hidden geometry, consolidating layers. They just wont show up in the Revit file. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
It doesn't play well when a group or component is scaled or mirrored. Either you need to set it to scale definition, or explode to the raw geometry. If not, I have no clue.
Thank you for this tutorial! By the way, what should I do when I import something that has been scaled and the mesh is displaced? This is for my final graduation work and I haven't benn able to find a solution.

A good topic suggestion Filip. :) I have explored this method and there are a few useful things, but material per layer is what I usually resort to as well. I don't think this is as important as materials in Revit aren't usually for visual purposes, but just quantity. Any specific reason you are needing to take Revit materials?
@@JosephKim Thanks for the quick answer. Yeah, I have experienced that too. You can set groups and components 'scale definition' and basically, that locks its scale. I imagine if you have variety of scales of same objects, you would have to make all of them unique and to scale definition all of them?
