Growing up on a super 88 is what got me hooked on collecting Oliver tractors. After 48 years and buying eighteen 88's, a year ago I unknowingly (until I got it home) bought the very tractor I grew up on. sale was over an hour away. Dreams still come true.....
@@444MH I seen it had a sticker from a local repair shop on it 2 miles from were I grew up. I called the repair shop and they confirmed they had bought the tractor at the auction and sold it years ago at one of Polk's auctions in Leesburg. the tractor was in Valparaiso. It's a super 88 diesel. The tractor runs strong and starts when hot. that is a sign of a good motor. Had someone scraped that repair shop sticker off it would just be another tractor, but when I loaded it I told the grandsons something felt different about this one. BTW, i only went to the sale to buy another 2655, which i ended up buying too. Like i said, dreams come true....
Just putting this out there, yesterday I went looking for Emery cloth for the shop! Local hardware store nope, Menards nope, Advance Auto nope, TSC in the welding section, nope, Burnips Equipment nope, finally stopped by Greenmark (JD) low and behold they had it on the shelf. You would think places that sell welding supplies would have it! Even checked NAPA store, nope. Most of the places I stopped by didn't even know what I was asking for.
We had a Super 88 diesel back many years ago. Pulled 3-16 really well. Dad traded it on an IH 460 which we still have. Love to have a Super 88 too. This one sounds really sweet.
Nice! My late great uncle had a 88 Diesel, a some other Oliver tractors an a miniapolis moline from the 60’s. was a dairy farmer until the late 1990’s.
I have a 88 diesel and use it a lot really enjoy hearing it run. First diesel I ever had that will blow a flame out of the exhaust when it’s pulling and dark.

What was it that made you realize that 88 was the tractor? Serial number or something else?

Growing up we had an 880 diesel she was a bear to start cold but once it was running it would pull like a beast, had more power then traction

I had an 88 diesel it was my big tractor witch was a huge jump from a farmall M I put a lot of hours on that Oliver I wish I still had it.
That’s what most guys say that had 88s and got rid of them.

They are monsters for their size with a little pump work.
I know of a super 88 diesel with a mounted new idea corn picker being sold in Baldwin Iowa but they want a pretty penny for it
