I like this because it is kind of overpowered, but takes a lot of work to maintain, and is expensive, and also you cant enter, leave or dock while cloaked, making it kind of balanced
It’s a pretty sophisticated system for scouting offline bases or having a cargo stash be protected against any AI enemies. There’s a lot of real potential with this and I think we should expect to see this technology more often once it’s potential is fully realized.
For PVP I wouldn't count on it too much, all weapons can be manually targeted. For PVE, it would absolutely work wonders. The black diamond ship format is pretty ominous in its own right though :D

I played Space Engineers at 2 separate points in my life. I'd be willing to return for a third and final time if I could get enough people on board to assist me in re-creating my most ambitious creation (only this time with zero mods.) I was working on a simply MASSIVE ship. Its stats were ridiculous honestly, albeit the fact that they were heavily boosted by mods. But I digress, what made it so special was all of the collaborated talent that contributed something to it. We had clang drives for maximum thrust. We were rocking rotor cannons the pilot could use while flying. Two people could operate piston guns (remotely) from inside the ship. Our vehicle depot was extremely large and could store a small army of drones at a players command and a wide assortment of vehicles all docked and ready for combat. The vehicle depot also had some of the largest opening blast doors we could rock! The landing gear was outrageous. We even had a method of nuking large enemy opposition. There's so much I want to do with this ship design idea, and its not just the creation of the ship, but also an entire server that revolves around this vessel and the crew exploring a massive hostile world. The server idea itself is extremely ambitious but none of that will ever matter if I don't return to the game. I just don't want to go it alone anymore.
Well, I'm thinking about starting a new role playing thing and the ship is still under construction. Could be somewhat in the lines you're talking about. Why did you step away from SE?

This is mind-blowing!! I was trying to build a cloaking ship with LCD's or something but I could never acuttly get it to work efficiently. This concept is amazing, I am going to try it right now.
Well, it looks like someone stole my idea. I already have designs for cloaked fighters and battle craft, I just haven't been able to build them yet. Excellent video, sir! I would note, to anyone reading this, that you do not have to make the cloak as complex as this for it to work. My designs involve a two grid system where the internals of the ship (all the functional parts) slide into a separate sheath grid, which is neutral. It is not mechanized, but also cannot malfunction. The weapons of these ships are positioned to fire out of small openings in the neutral grid, which makes them partially targetable, but only if they are in direct line with enemy weapons, which, if you are maneuvering quickly as I do with lighter vessels, means you are much less likely to take damage. Just some thoughts I've had, hopefully someone takes these ideas and runs with them.
Honestly looks like something out of an early 2000s or late 1990s sci fi film. Very good design indeed. There was a similar ship in looks only called Stealth something. It also used that same chrome sci fi look but it could still be targeted.
I think for a turret it might be too bulky - you're probably better off just using inertia based projectiles. Another idea I had for those was putting decoys on them between the "functional" part and the armor-block-weights. That way the enemy turrets shoot off the terminal blocks while leaving the weights perfectly functional. But yes, regarding the mobile base: I'm thinking that in a realistic manner, this might be able to guide enemy fire away from positions you want to protect to others that you want attacked (through decoys even more so)
Dude. This is BRILLIANT. If I get a good computer one day I'm gonna buy this game and try it out. I've loved this game for years. Sinply lack funds. But honestly this is amazing. The way to use this in pvp lies in using gravity drives inside and make the shell so it fits over a ship like a sock so its less likely to clang. Having the back open also allows u to ditch it fast if needed.
This is awesome, and especially hilarious to me because i'm currently working on building a faction of rogue AI themed grids that are designed around that kind of monolithic black diamond shape. I am totally going to borrow this idea. ;D

Its a good idea and as you references LSG showed what an unpowered grid will do. Unfortunately this design would not work well in MP thanks to clang on a moving grid. It could be more possible on a ground base design. Really stealth is hard to do in SE. Various different elements cannot mix and the only way to use these features is by going with the one or another approach. In the case of the video that would be using this to block ground fire instead of space or to just make a dark hard to see ship. In mp we really cannot have both at the same time.
@@antiloompa8338 There are still some questions. Does this still work with antenna set to on? How can i navigate a grindingdrone without third person? Some of lucas drones works with visual navigation if i remember correctly. This really add new possibilities. Thx, for that fellow space engineer 👍

Oh, yeah, this ship is highly impractical as it is. Even the thrusters damage the cloak. It's definitely nothing I'd do for a combat vessel, except as you said, to protect most important areas from Ai-Fire. But for scout-vessels, boarding-vessels or anything that needs to slip by undetected this could be vital.
I have the exact same design and concept, it opens up all the same ways but it's rectangle.. I just classed it as my fully armored ship But what I didn't know is that it's can't be targeted when closed so thanks for that
@@antiloompa8338 dude theres no way, then the turrets would start to shoot the black panels that cover the ship. Ive done some testing on my own and the ship is immediately targeted and shot at. Especially if the enemy craft or base is owned by a different faction. With neutral targeting enabled.
@Antiloompa What if you made a version using one of those laser mods. And as soon as the seams open up, you see laser light being emitted along the seams, collecting in one lasercollector in the front where it shoots out?

And for Hydrogen Men.. well, I think you get the idea what can go wrong with that lol.
Don't let me discourage further R&D though! It be amazing if such systems were simple to install and make the ship retain its original aesthetic.
Keep us informed! 😀
Oh, yeah, this ship is highly impractical as it is. Even the thrusters damage the cloak. It's definitely nothing I'd do for a combat vessel, except as you said, to protect most important areas from Ai-Fire.
But for scout-vessels, boarding-vessels or anything that needs to slip by undetected this could be vital.
...I’ll be borrowing this...
I have the exact same design and concept, it opens up all the same ways but it's rectangle.. I just classed it as my fully armored ship
But what I didn't know is that it's can't be targeted when closed so thanks for that
Glad I could tell you something new about your ship 🤓
Set turrets to target neutrals.
They are. It's in the video.
@@antiloompa8338 dude theres no way, then the turrets would start to shoot the black panels that cover the ship. Ive done some testing on my own and the ship is immediately targeted and shot at. Especially if the enemy craft or base is owned by a different faction. With neutral targeting enabled.
bro im literally see it. Even with a corner of my eye on a far distance
Very Cool
I have some theories about how to make these Strealth Armor Panels printable. I'll try and put them to good use on the Destroyer i am building.
You've gotta show us how to make this
Very awesome!
@Antiloompa
What if you made a version using one of those laser mods.
And as soon as the seams open up, you see laser light being emitted along the seams, collecting in one lasercollector in the front where it shoots out?
That would be siiiiick!
Cool ship, but Im not getting the cloaking effect at all. It doesnt blend in for me.
As in visual or the part where the turrets don't shoot it when it's closed?
I used more simple version of that with glass even before laststand vid (i just sticked glass shield around my main ship), everyone just not trying to use it
The turrets tried to shoot the inner part but not the outer diamond? Sooo... I can cover vital areas in this armor to protect them from automatic targeting? :D
Exactly!
sims marker ship
Should've made it green haha
Is this effective against the Reavers?
No idea, honestly. But if they target stuff by the same system that turrets do, then it would be.
Would we be able to make a one of these except it’s a blue cube with a huge laser in the front? We could literally make Ramiel from evangelion
Holy shit thats huge
I thought it was a 4x4x2
This is ganna really help me make a working spacestatioan for my fleet
Dang now I really want to make a diamond shaped ship with no external features but I'm terrible at making things lmao😭
Just go for it bro, every creation you'll get better
@@antiloompa8338 Thanks! I'll try it out tomorrow
