- Today I'm joined by CrystAAHHL to chat about all things Persona and SMT! Originally this was meant to be about a pretty specific thing but it kinda turned into a full on podcast. We talk about how we got into the series, our favorite characters and games, SMT's reputation for difficulty and much more!

It was such a pleasure to chat with you fam! Thank you so much again for having me!
Thanks for the surprise! It made my gloomy day much more pleasant.
Delighted hearing you two bounce back n forth about ideas, themes, and feelings on things!
Great video!
edit: It felt like there was such a comfortable back and forth, and such... different ideas that just... were listened to?
Often it can be that talks like this have two fairly similar pov's that don't question or analyze thanks to just agreeing on everything, or two pov's too opposing to understand each other.
But it felt like the two of you had such different ideas, but were *entirely* earnest and listened to each other. Crystahl seemed to appreciate the opposing ideas, and Fither seemed fascinated in learning about a different perspective.
It was so pleasant. I'd love more videos like this.
You're my favorite SMT/Persona streamer, and Fither is my favorite youtuber in the same communities. This is an AMAZING crossover for me!
Two of my favourite persona youtubers ❤

I cant believe Adachi had a crossover with Akechi, this is awesome
LOL that's so true
It's the ultimate persona sexyman multiverse!
Best crossover ever or what!?
I can’t believe Adachi didn’t ask Akechi if he was kek or cringe
"I love the feeling of being mentally challenged"
-Crystaahhl, 2023
Funny thing about JYB voicing Adachi and Narukami, apparently he went in to Adachi and they were like hey you wanna do the main character too?
"I love the feeling of feeling mentally challenged."
Based.
Almost woke up some roommates with my laugh after hearing her say that 💀
“Devil Survivor is the closest to Persona”: Respectful
“SMTIVA is the closest to Persona”: Derogatory
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK
She's going to have a pleasant surprise when she learns Devil Survivor is an actual tactics game.
Now we need Fither in a Crystaahhl dance video
Fither busting it down (sexual style) as Adachi would destroy at least 2 different timelines so that can't happen
Fither in tears, breaking it down while muttering 'Dance white boy, Dance...' under his breath.
CrystAAHHL and Fither co-performing The Fog (Atlus Konishi remix) would be pretty amazing.
Alright that’d be epic
the main character in p3 shares a va with Ryoji Mochizuki so protagonists sharing va's with antagonists is a pattern at least
(Spoiler Warning for P3 to anyone that wants to avoid that)
Well Ryoji kinda has a huge important connection to Makoto Yuki in a literal sense not just metaphorical so that feels less about protag and antag and more of they were literally in the same body for 10 years to me at least.
Honestly I'd be totally down for a full podcast series about Megami Tensei stuff with these two.
Holy shit I never expected this crossover. CrystAAHHL is really cool! BASED GOD FITHER
Somebody should Tell Crystahl that Devil Survivor does the Fire Emblem tactics gameplay, The Persona time management AND the Fiend(like) bosses :O
Crystahl being mindblown by the fact that Fither was playing P3 at the age of 15 was kinda funny to me because I played P3 when I was 14 and it was the perfect story for me at the time and is now the reason why it's my favorite videogame story ever
The crossover I never knew I needed but so glad it happened
I would of never predicted this collab happening. Also the 1st long Fither video in a while which is one of my favorite things period to listen to while doing random shit.
Their entire time talking about an SMT game that has good characters, villains, and setting I was screaming "Play DDS. Pls just play DDS."
58:18
Wish granted.
Well DDS won her poll on what MegaTen to play next in the future
japan really likes persona 3 portable. there's not a lot of fes acknowledgement from what i've seen. most japanese persona 3 footage i've found on youtube is either vanilla p3 or portable.
The degenerate king Fither and the wholesome queen CrystAAHHL doing a collab should shatter reality but i think we're safe for now
WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT HOW IS THIS THE FIRST I’M HEARING OF THIS???? THE ADACHI BOY AND AKECHI GIRL CROSSOVER???? LETS GOOOOO
@14:44 I did not, by any means, play RPGs growing up. I played platformers, fighting games, rail shooters, etc. I had a PS2 and a Dreamcast growing up, so I played games like Ratchet and Clank, Sonic Adventure, Rez, Okami, Mortal Kombat, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, etc.
I played Persona 5 Royal after buying my friend's PS4 and honestly, it's changed so much how I view video games and even how I live and relate with other people.
To the first, the notion of a game being an "experience", of being immersed in a world with a deep story and characters, wasn't something I was really aware of. For the most part, I played arcade-style games: the goal isn't to "experience", the goal is to improve. Get a new high score, get a better time, etc. Rinse and Repeat. (Okami may be the exception)
To the second, I have a friend who I hang out with almost every week now to play a new Persona game. After I played 5, I showed 5 to them, and they liked it more than I did. Ever since then, we've been playing Persona games together. They have told me that it has helped them to romanticize certain things in their life, such as studying.
I'm really glad I ended up playing this series of games because it opened me up to a whole new way of gaming. I've played P5R, P3Fes, P4G (didn't finish), just beat Persona 5 Strikers, and started Persona 2: Innocent Sin Today (also beat Catherine Classic). I'm looking forward to playing the rest of the games and seeing how I grow with the series.
Ngl Fither, this upcoming JoJo June, imma need a “all JoJo Villains vs all Persona Villains” video.
Woah, a Fither/Crystaahhl collab? I never would've expected it but this'll be great to listen to while I work.
I have seen you in like every video I watch about persona ._.
@@stevlajer4823 lol sorry
@@ShadowOfMassDestruction nah its ok, glad someone enjoys this franchise as much as I do
This is the best of both worlds in terms of SMT/Persona content creators omg 😭 Also, I'm REALLY looking forward to Crystal playing the masterpiece that is the Digital Devil Saga duology. Such minimal storytelling but every bit of the story is impactful
"Im not an artist"
Says the guy who made the 'what if giorno could only make pitbulls and babies' video
Lol who do you think you're fooling?
OH MY GOD I NEVER KNEW I NEEDED THIS CROSSOVER this is already going to be great
33:23 I think she meant she preferred P3’s story over P4’s even tho P4 had better gameplay, I think she was swapped them around when she made this claim cause in her tier she ranked P3 higher than 4 so 🤷🏾
12:30 I like to imagine it was intentional because Yuki and Ryoji also share a VA.
The weirdest thing about the potential existence of a P3 Remake is that after its release P4G would be the most antiquated modern Persona
Love the feeling of SMT’s mental challenges 🎉
THIS IS THE CROSSOVER I'VE WANTED FOR YEARS
*I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS*
@@ShadowOfMassDestruction*DID YOU SEE THAT SHINJI*
Not true, there is exactly one perfect company in existence and it’s Tanaka’s Amazing Commodities.
Yes.
Devil Survivor is the perfect game for her
She is going to lose her shit when she starts playing it. She will likely love Strange Journey too.
I just wanna say, i *did* play Persona 3 when i was a teenager, and it became my favorite game ever
I've struggled with mortality my whole life, even as a little kid, and to have a game that tells me that the inevitability of death is no excuse to lie down and do nothing really stuck to me
Honestly this was an interesting video. I originally thought and it would be another "Lets rip Personas 1-2ep a new ass hole" kind of rant. Though I am glad that she enjoyed P2's duology. Though honestly I can see why P1 can be seen as poorly aged, though I mostly grew up with 1-3 on psp loving that early era and loved moving onto Smt since Personas 1-2ep get less and less love nowadays. I wished that would change someday. Though characters choices are challenging for me when it comes to P1-3 alone. Would love to see Persona 1-2ep get more love from newer gamers and rpg fans alike
The stuff that Fither says at 34:33 and 35:40 really makes me want to push him into playing Yakuza 4. To reiterate, I love Yakuza 4, but there are a number of bad things about it (specifically at around the last third of the game) that I love to point out and talk about. Really, I need Fither to make a video about Yakuza 4.
Omg the greatest crossover SMT fans have been waiting for
I mean, SMT, and the Megami Tensai as a whole, is adult pokémon before Pokémons existence. So apt description.
Yoo awesome you got Crystal on your channel. I just got into her channel recently cool to see some more Persona and SMT fans collab.
So far I've played Nocturne, SMT 1, 2 and 4 (in that order) and I'm pretty confident that I wouldn't enjoy a Persona game, at least not a modern one. I actually liked the sense of solitude that came from Nocturne, and while the core crew from 4 is pretty likeable, the game definitely tries too hard to make me care about NPCs sometimes and it just annoyed me (that Ring of Gaea who gets eaten comes to mind as a particularly obnoxious example). As such, I don't think I'd like a lot of the characters in Persona games, whether it's from the actual characters themselves or from how they're presented.
Ironically, I think this POV has given me a great idea for a (possibly in-party) "rival" character in a future Persona game: a Wildcard who doesn't actually like any of his social links except maybe for the protagonist, and is just using them to unlock more powerful Personas. We have seen social links/confidants that let you unlock Personas despite them secretly not liking you (Adachi and Akechi), so logically it could work in reverse as well. It's also a chance to get really meta if the rival calls out the protagonist/player and accuses them of being no different.....after all, what Persona player hasn't maxed out the social link of a character they don't like, or picked a dialogue option they didn't like because they knew it was what the social link wanted to hear?
I can't believe Crystaahhl managed to afford Jonathan Fither
OMG it the funny discussion man and the funny dancing girl to talk to each other. They just like us fr fr😭
Shortest conversation between megaten fans
"I don't feel like a rumor spreads itself for that long that consistently unless there's some amount of truth to it."
And that's why Dragon Ball AF is coming out next year.
It's been a minute since I've seen an Akechi enjoyer, so that's pretty cool
glad to hear another smt and persona topic video, missed these from you :D
People argue a lot about MegaTen and Persona, but I believe we should all remember the one thing that unites all of us, is the knowledge that SMT and Persona are better than every other JRPG. Persona has its social mechanics, and SMT has its unique atmosphere and paradoxically action-packed turn-based combat. Both of them are so different not only from each other, but every other JRPG.
Unlike Final Fantasy, which is always focused on pushing the series forward and not going revisiting old ideas, or Dragon Quest, which is always focused on the past and capturing the classic feeling, SMT and Persona always capture the magic of the classic days of SMT 1 in 92 and P1 in 96, while pushing the series forward with new ideas. It makes every game feel fresh and distinct.
The most sane of the SMT community and the least sane of the Persona community.
Truly, the second Gore Vs William debate.
i wouldnt say story is secondary in smt, i feel like story is important in both persona and smt but the way they approach it is different. persona being more about the introspection of specific characters while smt is more about its world and how people react to the world around them. the only games i would say are light on the plot are nocturne and v
Honestly the reason SMT never got me as much as Persona did is that the Persona games are WAY more polished in everything, from basic interfaces to sound design.
Surprised Maruki isn't in your top 3 characters
I would have loved a Soul Hackers segment but the video was really great anyway ! Great work !
"I love the feeling of feeling mentally challenged" - CrystAAHHL, 2023
Jokes aside, this was a lovely interview from start to finish! Would love to see more podcast chats like these in the future, it was a great listen.
Great podcast. Makes me nostalgic for when my friends and I would talk about smt way back.
That said, now I am just depressed. There’s so much I want to say as someone who started with smt 1, 2, 3, and then played P3FES way back when, and I feel that perspective is desperately needed here, but all I can do is bite my tongue. There are so many details on consistency, development stories, and the torch being passed down and what that means for the constitution of the series’ identity. I’m happy all these new people are giving smt a chance. I just wish they had the context to take away the bad taste they get from Nocturne and understand the line that was tread up to strange journey… and how that line was largely discarded in 4, and replaced with a soft reboot multiverse continuity retcon of 1&2 because the devs got scared of following up 3 (admitted in interview at the time, too). Agh.
It's nice to see this discussion! I just started my first playthrough of Persona 4 Golden! I do know the story, but never got around to actually play it. Since it's on gamepass why not try it?
I did beat Persona 5 royal as my first persona/SMT game ever and I loved every single second of it! I've tried to play persona 3 portable, but the "Portable" part really threw me off.
I was not expecting this crossover but it's super cool to see two TH-camrs I really enjoy talk really cool 👍
yo
@@nothanksidiot you need to be more enthusiastic go "YOOOOOOOO" instead
@@LostBlade776 you're too right
I'm only partway through the video, but I'm surprised that you haven't mentioned that Devil Survivor is a SRPG similar to FE yet, considering how often she's mentioning it
This is the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 of Persona and SMT content creators (the joke is that Crystaahhl has also streamed XC3)
This is the craziest crossover I could've expected.
Persona and SMT both have their merits and appeal but for me, stories where only a handful of characters are around and they all seem to go to extremes and try to kill you if you disagree with them isn't very appealing. Persona leans pretty hard on building relationships with characters as a source of power, which is a big part of the appeal. DDS still had the post apocalyptic setting and a small cast of characters but the way it went about the story felt more satisfying than the likes of Nocturne and 5. It has elements of drawing power from working together as a group the way Persona does, which would make it more appealing to people who like that about Persona games while still being similar enough to main SMT games to appeal to those fans as well.
The main reason I see for persona fans being hesitant to get into SMT is that I see a lot of SMT fans talk down on Persona as being 'too casual' or 'not edgy enough' in ways that create a sort of unwelcoming fandom atmosphere. Harsh gameplay difficulty isn't for everyone but people are going to be less willing to try it if the fans drive them way with that kind of attitude. Persona can get pretty grim too even if it isn't constantly apocalyptic and has happier endings. Super hard difficulty also isn't a measure of quality either, so SMT being better at offering the kind of challenge hardcore gamers are after doesn't make Persona inferior. Describing SMT that way just makes it sound like it's for edgelords that think suffering is a measure of quality, which is a disservice to it.
It really is a difference in genre. Persona may not do alignment routes but its different setting allows the exploration of ideas that don't work as well in an apocalyptic scenario and it goes more deeply into psychological themes where mainline SMT is more about philosophical ones. Both are ultimately explorations on humanity and the various ideas that can shape the world. It's also pretty interesting to think about how they tie into eachother in the timeline and metaphysics of the setting with how they're all part of the same multiverse but have different ways of expressing the same concepts.
Really good video!! loved hearing how you guys got into the series and different perspectives on smt. The business talk was also interesting I wonder what Atlus next step is gonna be
Thank you for being in my ear while farming for the Elizabeth fight
Adachi fan 🤝 Akechi fan
Fithers approach to SMT4A is how I approach RWBY😂. Also I’d love see a discussion with crystal about the criticisms with Akechi and her defenses of them, it would be pretty funny I think
I think my first SMT was Devil Survivor then I played Persona 3 later.
Perfect video to start my day with!
This will either be a chill talk about some fun video games or it will devolve into pure chaos. Either way I’m all for it.
What A Glorious Collab, Just Started The Video But I Love It Already
This is so cool! So happy it happened
wtf?? I didn't even know you guys were in the same universe
This could work as an actual podcast maybe
I had to fucking rub my eyes to make sure I wasn’t dreaming
You guys should do a Tellius discussion
Ironic akechi fan and unironic akechi fan
I find it the other way around
god f*cking dammit they're both Akatchi dammmmmmmmiiiiiiiiii
*Adachi
No one tell Crystaahhl that there is a really well made persona 5 visual novel where the player can romance Akechi
If Fit her likes artist characters, he would probably like Blue Period( a manga a young artist trying to get an arts degree).
She actually didn't play apocalypse on the hardest difficulty, it's free dlc and she just ignored all dlc and in IV the hard difficulty is unlocked in ng+ so she didn't do it in IV either
This crossover was not on my bingo card this year but i’ll gladly take it
Crossover of the ages!
This video was awesome. Fither and Crustaahhl would be great podcast hosts.
A very pleasant surprise.
I love how social links were the defining feature of modern persona and now every frikin' JRPG has affinity systems lol
edit: the thing persona has that differs from other JRPGs is that it does it's best to keep the story grounded and it's themes/messages very human, while others bury themselves under very heavy handed metaphor and power scale themselves out of all subtlety.
OMFG I LOVE YOU TWO SO MUCH THIS IS AMAZING
I also love the feeling of feeling mentally challenged. lmao
New Fithlore dropped
Gotta love when two content creators I watch crossover :)
Woah wut? i didn't expect this collab at all
This was awesome!
The story and character aren't secondary, you happened to play SMTV and Nocturne which are most difference from a JRPGs.
In comparasion , i started with 4, 4A, Strange Journey and Devil survivor 1 and 2 then smtv. Characters, alignments , story and choices are the most important to me.
Probably good to let someone finish their thought before jumping into the comments lmfao
@59:10 - 59:23 Yes
