I finally got this project finished for my first grandchild! It works perfectly for her and should for several years. I made mine with walnut. Although I watched this video many times and looked at the plans for every step, it seemed like I made mistakes with every step. She’ll never know and it looks beautiful! Any suggestions on a species of wood that would be good for a painted version? I was thinking maybe poplar?

the script is well written. the way you tell the instructions step by step is amazing. it's like it made me felt that it is soooo simple and easy to make. hehehe amazing. love this vid.
Very fun build. My 22 month old loves hers. Can always count on your kids furniture being stable and safe. The kids table from WWFC is another favorite, My daughter and I like to eat dinner together at it. This and the table both support my 6'4" body.
a 15 minute video, became a 5 day project. but the result is superb. Mine was made out of home lumbered lark wood, gives a great wood pattern and color. Our 15months old kid got crazy about it, climbing on and off for almost the hole day. ( maybe run the plans also in metric numbers for the other side of your viewers ) Thanks a lot !

I built a folding version based off of Mark's dimensions that (by happy accident) doubles as counter extension. I did not intend for this function, so I did not even think about making the platform a cutting board. That is a great idea. Here's album of the finished product: imgur.com/a/DmJjn

Hi, I have this on my to do list for a long Time now. My Wood Store is a bit Limited in his selection. Do you think red cedar is sturdy enough for the joints used? Thanks
Did you give any thought to tip resistors on the bottom? For our kiddo's first tower was just a frame on top of an Ikea stool, and he tipped it over once. Luckily he was ok. So I looked at a few plans online (didn't see yours, or I would have gone closer to this route) and was sure to put the tip resistors on...even though I broke a toe kicking it while I was still waking up one morning.
We've been using ours for a couple of years now and haven't once felt that tipping was a risk. So I'm not making any safety claims on that but I am saying that tip resistors look ugly, get in the way, and make an already bulky piece of furniture have an even larger footprint. But you'll have to make the final call for yourself as to whether you need more support. Extra support would be easy enough to add later if needed.

I'll be the first to admit that my Ikea iteration was probably too tall with too small of a footprint, and the larger footprint probably solves the problem. And like I said, I broke a toe on them. I hate them, but was also thinking they would be a necessary evil...I'm glad you've had a positive experience without them....it might tempt me to take ours off.
I wish there was a sheet on where to put the dominos.. I swear I can not get the ones on the legs to attach the two pieces together for the live of me..
Yeah, but looking at their rickety old mass produced ugly, will be broken within a year thing, they should be ashamed of themselves. Perhaps they were and wanted to stop people searching from seeing this work of art and finding someone to build one for them?
Cool concept . Safety is over rated . I just propped my kids up on a bucket that fits under the sink . Hours of fun kicking the bucket out from under them . Lol JK . It is a good idea though.

My wife always wants more counter space. You could make an arborite or cutting board type topper for this and you have a portable prep station.

Any issues with your son slipping? That high quality finish looks slippery with socks on.
It's actually not slippery at all. A few coats of Danish Oil has just a little bit of luster but still appears very matte.
