Thanks for checking out this video! This is definitely a song that grows on you very quickly. We now can't get it out of our heads! What did you think about the reaction? What's your metal tomatoes rating? What should we react to next to keep Metal Maiden Mondays going?
@@ChemicalReactions Yea, I would say use the live video with the lyrics. Maybe also read up a little bit about the meaning of the song, particularly what the situation was when Tuomas wrote it.
if you are doing a reaction ( and i bet you will) on "the poet and the pendulum", I stongly suggest you should do a backgroundcheck on the song before you listen to it, because i think you would feel that song more intensive when you know what it's about. Maybe you should use the video version with the lyrics shown (just a suggestion) If you want to liste to the first Nightwish Singer Tarja Turunen i would suggest the "Phantom of the Opera" where she has an awesome duett with the bands bassist Marco Hietala keep rocking Greetings from Germany
Floor and Simone didn't meet until Simone met Mark (they had a relationship in the past) and eventually became the singer of Epica. They were in their late teens then. But when they did this song they knew each other for a long time.
@@ChemicalReactions That's not that big of a deal. In fact, the beginning of the third month of a pregnancy is, when women reach their peak performance level, because the body is already prepared to provide for two, but the embryo is not so big, that you would notice the energy drain.

As a Dutch person, I can not feel more proud. To see you both react so positively to my fellow Dutchies. I've been lucky to know both Floor and Mark since their early days in After Forever. I even was a member of their "Guest list" for their local performances two year in a row from 2000-2002/3 until Mark quit/had to leave due to artistic differences. Though Floor and Mark remained good friends, and there's absolutely no animosity between them... as you may have seen from this performance. Though them (Floor and Simone) being childhood friends is exaggerated, like I saw somewhere in the comments. Mark and Floor do know each other since they were 15/16 years old though. Anyway, might I suggest Ayreon "The day the world breaks down" MV, or Ayreon "Everybody dies (Ayreon Universe)" Floor is a long time collaborator of Arjen Lucassen (the musical genius behind Ayreon) Also Simone appeared as a guest on an Ayreon album. one small tip; Use earbuds so you can actually hear each other. ;)

F1rst World NomaD, I don‘t know about far superior - it’s probably just more „stereotypically“ Within Temptation. I LOVE their stuff and don‘t really have a preference! 🤟
Some female-fronted metal bands for Metal Maiden Mondays: Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering - Dutch band): Nighttime Birds Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation -another Dutch band): Faster Charlotte Wessels (Delain - yet another Dutch band): Army of Dolls Liv Kristine (Theatre of Tragedy - Norwegian band): Der Tanz der Schatten or Rose for the Dead Cammie Gilbert (Oceans of Slumber - US band): The Banished Heart Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil - Italian band): Shallow Life [Aleah Stanbridge] (Trees of Eternity - Swedish band): Sinking Ships Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy - Swedish band): War Eternal Noora Louhimo (Battle Beast - Finnish band): Black Ninja Anja Orthodox (Closterkeller - Polish band): Władza Medeah (Artrosis - Polish band) : Nazgul
When it comes to symphonic and progressive metal. You should try Ayreon who has collaborated with both Simone and Floor among many others. The Day the World Breaks Down is a good start.
haha. Their reactions to Powerwolf's lyrics ought to be something. Certain songs in particular ^^ Their keyboardist is the most hyped up dude I've seen on a stage short of Rammstein's performances. Or perhaps Bruce Dickinson. He was when I saw them at Getaway Rock in Gävle, Sweden in 2014 anyway
This was actually recorded in 2013. Their 10th anniversary show. With a 70 people counting orchestra and choir. I was at the show. Floor and Simone are very close friends.
Simone was in fact pregnant here, and was on stage for hours at this point nearly. Simone is actually pretty incredible on stage, take it from someone who has seen her on stage 4 times. Songs like “Kingdom of Heaven” or “The Holographic Principle” are long epic songs like “Ghost Love Score” is, however Epica focuses on very different subject matter than Nightwish tends to. Maybe, to get the full impact of Epica, you need a video where you just hear Simone not up against Floor. People tend to compare singers even when they’ve got different styles and sounds. And this particular performance was in 2013, Simone has vastly improved her live performance abilities since. 👍🏻 Keep it up, and thanks for bringing Epica into the mix! Edit: Floor also did join Epica on stage a couple more times at this show, one in particular performance shows Simone’s vocal chops much better than this one. That would be “Stabat Mater Dolorosa”.
Immortall1408 that’s what I’m saying (in a sense). She was up there a long time, while pregnant. But despite that, she still held her own up there all night. It’s not an easy feat to sing on stage for 3 hours while being pregnant (and as far as I heard, she also wasn’t feeling too well). At the time, though, no one knew officially that she was pregnant, though...just suspected it...a lot. Some even were mean and were saying she’s “getting fat”. I’ve seen Epica twice in 2010 (January and November), once in 2012, and once in late 2017. She’s always been good, and she keeps getting better. I just wish sometimes that people wouldn’t compare when these women never compare themselves or their counterparts to other singers. Floor is incredible and so is Simone.
@@imcherylynn I am not comparing them, far from it. I think she was quite glad to share this song with Floor because she was not feeling particularly well.
Two great singers from my home country the Netherlands. The Gathering with singer Anneke van Giersbergen Within temptation All from the Netherlands and very well known worldwide
One thing you should know about the metal community is the camaraderie between bands. There's so much respect between heavy metal bands, especially between bands who perform the same style of metal. People outside of the metal community don't seem to realise this. It's never about who is better. It's "I think your band kick ass so I want to help you guys succeed"
Next Maiden Metal Monday: Within Temptation - Faster (4:24 version, not the 3:33 version) The 2013 Isle Of Man TT race used that song in their video here on youtube, and it has something like 66 million views, so definitely Within Temptation's most well-known song.
Burning Witches - Wings Of Steel This is the first video released on June 14 featuring new lead singer Laura Guldemond taking over for Seraina Telli who left the band just prior to the Sweden Rock Festival to focus on her other band Dead Venus. They're an all-female power metal band with an 80s Judas Priest/Warlock vibe.
As other have said, Simone was 3 months pregnant when this performance was done. And it was 3 hours in, they turned up Simone, and lowered Floor'd volume. Simone took lessons from Floor from what I have read. In verse two they swap roles seamlessly, and then both sing in unison together. Both such talented singers having a blast singing together. It never grows old watching this performance.
Continuing the theme of Nightwish guest stars, you guys could always react to DELAIN "Nothing Left" (Live) or "The Gathering," (Masters of Rock 2017) featuring bassist Marco Hietala.
this concert was given for the anniversary for epica (i donnow how long they are around), the whole show was 3 hours long, only for that concert they've done it with a symphonic orchestra and choir, also what has been said simone was singing already 1hour+, might be the reason for the flaws and what not, i love this song, the 2 compare greatly in soundranges, keep up the good work. love it so far.
I don't think they are ready for any AE< even Alissa is a bit advanced... :) Also Angelas Under Black Flags we March! :) Im thinking any Arch Enemy would knock em for a loop... ESP World is Yours or Eagle Flies Alone. :)
Since you've done Epica, you have to do Kamelot now. Epica is named after a Kamelot Album. III ways to Epica would be a great song to tie them both together.
Simone was singing for 2 hours already before this song and was 2.5 months pregnant. Take that into your consideration when you compare their performance. She did amazingly there they are both out of this world
The retrospect show was a celebration for epica. Thats the reason they had the orchestra with them on stage. Simone and Floor are very close friends. And you can see that in their interactions
Suggestions for Metal Maiden Mondays - try almost anything from Battle Beast (‘Let it Roar’ is a personal favorite), and give Dance With The Dragon by Dark Sarah a listen. 🤘 You guys are great to watch, thanks for doing what you do!
If you liked this one, please check out "Stabat Mater dolorosa". It's from the same concert, I think. No Metal though but amazing opera voices from Simone and Floor!
It's the next logical step after going Floor taking them to Epica, Simone takes them to Kamelot. For me it was the other way around. Started with Kamelot, then to Epica, then found Nightwish.
When talking power and technique no one can match Floor. However when hitting pure angelic note no one can hold a candle to Sharon den Adel. You *need* to check out *Within Temptation* - Angels/Memories ... Thats said, Floor is still queen as an overall vocalist.
"Jansen" or "Janssen" is as common a name in the Netherlands as "Smith" is in the USA. This particular concert is a 10 year anniversary concert called 'Retrospect' and is about 3 hours long, give or take. For this occasion Epica was accompanied by an orchestra and choir from Hungary. Simone is not headbanging very much as she was just pregnant at the time. This song was not written as a duet but lends itself for it very well. Simone and Floor are longtime friends from the time Floor was still in After Forever. When Mark Jansen left After Forever he founded Epica. Since he already knew Simone Simons from the After Forever Forum, he asked her to be the lead vocalist. This song was performed after about 2 hours into the show, so signs of fatigue are quite normal, especially given the state Simone was in. Earlier in the show Simone did another duet with Floor Jansen called 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa', a classical piece by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. Absolutely beautifully performed. I really recommend you to react to that one, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy!
ooooh Metal Maiden Mondays!!! The perfect time to do Within Temptation feut Tarja Terunen (Ex Nightwish) - What about us? .. awesome track for you guys to do
Hello guys! Definitly check -- PARADISE (What about us?) -- from Within Temptation, their singer is Sharon den Adel, guess what, another extremly talented female, dutch singer. Also the song is featuring TARJA, NIGHTWISH's first singer, who many fans say was the BEST. I reccomend the official song, not a live version, but those are good too.

Thanks!
Fred Barrut, that WILL be cool! 😊
Paradise is ok and all but their older stuff is far superior.
F1rst World NomaD, I don‘t know about far superior - it’s probably just more „stereotypically“ Within Temptation. I LOVE their stuff and don‘t really have a preference! 🤟
@@F1rstWorldNomaD True, but the duet between Sharon and Tarja IS what makes this song so great.
U guys should definitely do Ne Obliviscaris - And Plague flowers the kaleidoscope (live in Colorado)
Great channel btw keep it up! :) subbed

@@ChemicalReactions Happy to help! :)
When it comes to symphonic and progressive metal. You should try Ayreon who has collaborated with both Simone and Floor among many others. The Day the World Breaks Down is a good start.
Ayreon is amazing, but I think in order to really appreciate it at its fullest, you need to listen to the entire album
@@Sacrimony_ It`s concept- albums, so yes. But the song i mentioned is still a good start cuz it stands well on it`s own.
Still to go: Powerwolf, Avantasia, Blind Guardian
YES, POWERWOLF!!!
@@sicksimeonsamurai8897 saw them live on saturday, amazing as always :D
They are Amazing live. I will see them in January. Cant wait!!!
@@sicksimeonsamurai8897 i probably gonna see them again in december but still have to get them tickets though
haha. Their reactions to Powerwolf's lyrics ought to be something. Certain songs in particular ^^
Their keyboardist is the most hyped up dude I've seen on a stage short of Rammstein's performances. Or perhaps Bruce Dickinson.
He was when I saw them at Getaway Rock in Gävle, Sweden in 2014 anyway
Epica " unchain utopia"
Delain " Masters of destiny"
This was actually recorded in 2013. Their 10th anniversary show. With a 70 people counting orchestra and choir. I was at the show. Floor and Simone are very close friends.
Hi guys and greeting from Finland! Thank you for reactions. You should react also Epicas Cry for the moon. Just love it.
Epica vs Attack on Titan is also quite cool.
Keep it up, and thanks for bringing Epica into the mix!
Edit: Floor also did join Epica on stage a couple more times at this show, one in particular performance shows Simone’s vocal chops much better than this one. That would be “Stabat Mater Dolorosa”.
Simone was good even before, but her breathing was impacted because she was pregnant and her voice was weaker.
Immortall1408 I wasn’t saying you were the one comparing them.
Still to go: Delain, Within Temptation, Evanescence and Anneke van Giersbergen
And the Gathering
@@hendrikvandenberkmortel6702 that's a good choice to show the beautiful voice of Anneke van Giersbergen
I would suggest Sharon Adel's duet with Anneke at Black Symphony, 2008. Very awesome female duet.
Everyone forgets Theater of Tragedy.
@@hendrikvandenberkmortel6702 Yup. Gathering (fronted by Anneke) at Pinkpop '96 or '97 - Strange Machines
For a Dutch TV show, Floor Jansen & Henk Poor sang "The Phantom of the Opera".. you DEFINITELY want to check this one out...
Kamelot - Elizabeth /I, II & III/ - live!
React to NIGHTWISH: the poet and the pendulum (live in Wembley) is a must. Please read synopsis first
Please try More EPICA they're really really good!!
Two great singers from my home country the Netherlands.
The Gathering with singer Anneke van Giersbergen
Within temptation
All from the Netherlands and very well known worldwide
Love Anneke too!
Blind Guardian - Valhalla (Imaginations Through the Looking Glass)
Now proceed to Consign To Oblivion :)
Floor was a vocal coach and Simone was one of here students.
Get some Ghost going on. I recommend Square Hammer and Cirice.
Gotta love Swedish Metal Bands.
Definitely want to start exploring the Swedish scene!
Ghost would be cool. Hard to pick a song from them, I like so many of them.
More like a classic hard rock band ;)
But Yeah.. Ghost are pretty cool :)
@@ChemicalReactions If you're checking out Swedish metal bands, i'd suggest Avatar. For a heavier side, Amon Amarth.
Next Maiden Metal Monday: Within Temptation - Faster (4:24 version, not the 3:33 version)
The 2013 Isle Of Man TT race used that song in their video here on youtube, and it has something like 66 million views, so definitely Within Temptation's most well-known song.
I saw Epica in November 2008 (Montpellier) and they where already 3 years old.
Anyway, check this with Simone:
th-cam.com/video/EuOqYqxqEOU/w-d-xo.html
Do Arch Enemy - Ravenous or Nemesis live in Japan next!
or wacken 2016 side by side ;) but Ravenous is a great choice...I would vote for Bloodstained Cross though
Burning Witches - Wings Of Steel
This is the first video released on June 14 featuring new lead singer Laura Guldemond taking over for Seraina Telli who left the band just prior to the Sweden Rock Festival to focus on her other band Dead Venus. They're an all-female power metal band with an 80s Judas Priest/Warlock vibe.
Greetings from Germany and a big chapeau for the young lady, you are very open minded and have a huge background knowledge
You have to react to the father's of symphonic metal THERION
Yes, Typhon or Blood of Kingu!
@6:13 if you like syncronized headbanging, check out Bloody Angel by Avatar. The live at Wacken 2015 recording is great.
Try Epica - Chasing the dragon live Retrospect!!!!
I saw Epica in a smaller club a couple of years ago and they were great. I wish Floor was there too.
Continuing the theme of Nightwish guest stars, you guys could always react to DELAIN "Nothing Left" (Live) or "The Gathering," (Masters of Rock 2017) featuring bassist Marco Hietala.
A great After Forever song is "Energize Me." Floor's voice is killer as always.
this concert was given for the anniversary for epica (i donnow how long they are around), the whole show was 3 hours long, only for that concert they've done it with a symphonic orchestra and choir, also what has been said simone was singing already 1hour+, might be the reason for the flaws and what not, i love this song, the 2 compare greatly in soundranges, keep up the good work. love it so far.
Within Temptation does a song called Paradise of their Hydra album that has Tarja Turunan as guest vocals. Tarja was Nightwish's first vocalist.
really think you need to try " ARCH ENEMY - The World Is Yours "
Absolutely!
I don't think they are ready for any AE< even Alissa is a bit advanced... :) Also Angelas Under Black Flags we March! :) Im thinking any Arch Enemy would knock em for a loop... ESP World is Yours or Eagle Flies Alone. :)
i cant hear you. I said I CANT..... ohh ya.lol love it guys!
Since you've done Epica, you have to do Kamelot now. Epica is named after a Kamelot Album. III ways to Epica would be a great song to tie them both together.
No The Haunting w/Simone off of Cold Winter's Night live!
@@alexojeda9048 That's a great choice as well :)
Simone was singing for 2 hours already before this song and was 2.5 months pregnant. Take that into your consideration when you compare their performance. She did amazingly there they are both out of this world
Metal Maiden Mondays, Battle Beast - Black Ninja. Awesome reaction, and my rating for this Epica song 77.
I was there, almost in front was a great performance!
The retrospect show was a celebration for epica. Thats the reason they had the orchestra with them on stage. Simone and Floor are very close friends. And you can see that in their interactions
10 years´ anniversary
Thanks. Couldn't remember for how long it was.
Oh,- Female fronted.
Ranthiel Soprano - Midgard ( Therion cover ) You won´t believe what these ladies do with their voices.
Thanks!
"The Haunting" by Kamelot
It's the next logical step after going Floor taking them to Epica, Simone takes them to Kamelot. For me it was the other way around. Started with Kamelot, then to Epica, then found Nightwish.
@@brianl8481 then Kamelot can take them to Once Human.
Yes, Jansen is a pretty popular name. It just means: son of Jan (Jan-son). :-)
Jan is Dutch for John, which I think is short for Johannes.
And what about the two s version like Coen?
@@ChemicalReactions just a different writing style, kind of like: "John's son"
Devilskin - Little Pills
Female fronted metal band from New Zealand.
When talking power and technique no one can match Floor.
However when hitting pure angelic note no one can hold a candle to Sharon den Adel.
You *need* to check out *Within Temptation* - Angels/Memories
...
Thats said, Floor is still queen as an overall vocalist.
We will definitely have to get to them! Thanks!
Kamelot ft.Simmone - The haunting live is a pretty epic song, btw simmone is the singer from Epica
Check out the other Epica Songs and your put up to at least 90 % for sure ;)
Will do!
Enjoy!
I think you are ready for Epica - Consign to Oblivion (live at Zenith); it is epic.
I can tell she was really into this one - this is the most bright eyed I have seen you
I would love to see you react to more Epica. Consign to oblivion or some others.
Yes. They r that epic.
We are blessed.
ooooh Metal Maiden Mondays!!! The perfect time to do Within Temptation feut Tarja Terunen (Ex Nightwish) - What about us? .. awesome track for you guys to do
Also with Metal Maidens got to have Doro Pesch and Kittie reacted to, Nita Strauss as well
Thanks!
Girly.. the band's name is Epica, and their singer is Simone Mairia Joanna Simons, Floor Jansen was invited to sing along with her and her band.
they are amazing together
Here are a few more bands - songs for Metal Maiden Mondays:
Visions of Atlantis - The Deep & The Dark
Delain - Masters of Destiny
Within Temptation - Raise Your Banner
Raven Black - Dollhouse
Burning Witches - Hexenhammer
