    Kevin Hart's 3 Secrets To Hilarious Storytelling
    Kevin Hart is one of the funniest men alive. Whether in interviews with Ellen Degeneres or George Lopez, or his standup specials, he tells absolutely hilarious stories. In fact, most of his standup routine consists of him telling stories. But he does it in such a way that hooks an audience and never lets go, partially because he is able to include so many jokes.
    It's not that Kevin Hart's life is inherently more interesting than the rest of ours. He is just a better storyteller. The good news is that storytelling is not something you're born with or you're not. Anyone can learn to tell the kind of funny stories that made Kevin famous. You just need to know the most important pieces.
    While there are many storytelling techniques and styles that will enable you to captivate an audience, ultimately, the best storytellers share a few things in common: they get attention, they commit, and they are constantly refining their craft. These fundamentals can be used in any kind of story but they are especially useful for funny stories
    So if you want to know how to tell a story better or you are just are interested in what makes Kevin Hart's stories so engaging, check out the video.

      Your feelings probably aren't wrong but you don't know how to interpret them it seems. If this is the case on how you feel about the matter there are two things that might have gone wrong on how i think about it.
      Either you stretch out the story too much by giving too many details repeating yourself or in any way or form give more information than is actually needed or you haven't yet figured out how to make your story entertaining at all times to the point where you feel it yourself. Think of your story like a novel, a series or a movie that really has an interesting premise and think about where the writer fails to keep the pacing right or succeeded in it. Thats the key you're looking for since based on your phrasing it doesn't seem like you lack the interesting bits that form your stories.

    I just have to say, my Fiance' who passed away at the beginning of the year was a huge Kevin Hart fan. He was an older man who had been known for many years to be a fantastic storyteller and he was.
    I was amazed watching this video to see the tactics they both used so similarly. I doubt he even realized it. The only thing that would have made this better was if he was here to show it to.
    Thanks for putting a smile on my face this evening.

    I wonder if Kevin is conscious of what he does
    Recall Summary: Grab people's attention first: "Listen" say their name, give the story a preamble (hook), repetition
    Commit to your story: use expressive gestures, play the character,
    Test out funny stories to see how people react, then use them again.

      I am not so sure he is conscious. Knowing someone who was a fantastic storyteller and being almost 100 percent sure it was almost instinctual with him, I think a lot of it is just natural to Kevin.
      Even down to the slight name change, such as when Kevin called Jimmy, "Jim".

    • @AlfredEiji
      @AlfredEiji 7 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      I think that when it comes to people who are such successful at a particular skill, it's pretty much always both. At the highest level, you don't ONLY need instinctual talent. You need to be conscious of what you're doing and how you're doing it well. That way, you don't stagnate. However, talent does help by helping you learn faster, and the instinctual aspect increases the success rate of your experimentation to be the best.

    Thanks Charisma on Command - getting attention, and making sure you answer side questions before plowing ahead with the story. Awesome advice. And being animated, because if you're not excited about the story, you can't expect your audience to be excited about the story. As well, setting up the story - "true story", "just this and I gotta go..." All great information. And last, but not least - practice, practice, practice the story. I'm working on story telling for my own channel and this was insightful. Thank you, Cheers Rick

      +Charisma on Command I just ran across your videos and they're really good, I'm a fan of verbal techniques and non-verbal communication. I was looking at the Donald Trump videos, I don't know if you know who Conor McGregor is, the popular UFC MMA Champion, you should really check him out, he uses similar speaking techniques very similar to the ones Donald Trump uses. I bet he would be a good subject for a video ;)

  • @bunnysenpaimon6742
    @bunnysenpaimon6742 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Here are two things I noticed in Kevin in the video as well:
    Pauses are key in strategic places. I noticed this in Kevin when he's narrating what someone else said, saying something like, "And he said to me...[punch line]." That small pause, with the right emphasis on the words in the sentence can make the listeners lean forward, waiting for the next part.
    The second thing is to portray the characters yourself, and not simply narrate the story. Kevin almost always tells the story by using his hands (as mentioned in the video) and telling the story from an almost first-person view even if the story is about someone else. He doesn't say the general idea of what someone else said, but rather uses direct lines, direct quotes from the person. He didn't describe his son doing the Spiderman move, but did it himself. It's what made the audience feel so much more included.
    But those are my two cents that I saw too :) If anyone else also notices something not mentioned, it would be awesome to point it out!

    One of the best storytellers I've seen is Kevin Smith, and I don't know how he does it. I've seen an audience member ask him one simple question and he uses that to tell a 50-minute story that has multiple flashbacks transitioning naturally into one another w/o boring the audience. Then he brings it full circle by finally answering the original question in the end, turning it into a punchline of a needlessly long yet entertaining tangent.

    The most interesting thing about these video show they incorporate their own techniques before teaching you. Go back to the beginning of the video and spot what they say: Start with the carrot: "How to instantly hook and crack up" 0:06. Subtext is you + video = Kevin Hart (other celebrities/popular characters substituted as necessary). Then: "Stick around to the end of the video" 0:12. This means that EVERY part of the information is gold - undivided attention + better youtube % watched.Then signpost with "3 most important tools" so that viewers don't get lost. Finally, "while there are tonnes of techniques the most important thing..." 0:20 Acknowledge that this is well trodden ground but that you alone have the best solution. Did I do good +Charismaoncommand?

    The best college lecturer I had was a history teacher who told the stories about history very much like this. Not as a comedy routine but as GOOD stories, ones you wanted to hear. Also as he was speaking he would walk around the classroom, get louder, get softer, get faster, and best of all throw your name out there as if he were only talking to you. That was an easy A because it was easy to remember what he taught you. You had enjoyed it.

      I’m not good at being entertaining but I give you ridiculous amounts of information from the story and people just kind of zone out listening but not like I’m bored zoned out like deep into the subject zoned out also I have a extremely monotone voice and a southern accent so I’m like a narrator that usually has a stuffed up noise do to allergy’s

    I want to point out that you don't have to use Kevin Hart's style to be successful or to keep people engaged. However, the 3 principals. 1. Getting People's attention 2. Being Concise and adding spice 3. being in the moment of a story to see which part has vibed with your audience right now. Are all great secrets to good communication in teaching, in story telling, and in many other platfroms. You can watch Jon Stewart and see how he runs his show, you can watch Televangelists, or your local church pastor, and learn a lot. Remember though to tailor these principals to you. You're not Kevin Heart. You're just as good, you're you.

    Commitment comes naturally to me, grabbing attention first is more difficult. I used to be well-known, in school and around my town. Automatic respect, you know? They all knew me, they all knew I was good and when I spoke most would shut up and pay attention.
    Real world is tougher xD

    Having watched a few of these vids I will say that I am becoming a fan of CoC now. The presenter gives it to you straight - he's firm but he doesn't shove it down your throat. His style means that he not only grabs you from the start but also comes at the subject from all different angles, which makes it interesting and enjoyable. Also, his attention to detail is notable because he covers the subject really well.

    Hey man, I love your channel! What I love that you do that most other channels don't is that you give us a huge amount of value and great content in the video before making an ask or a sale. Plus, the ask that you make is to go and check out more great content, not just sell us some poorly thought out gimmicky program. Real stuff, great advice, solid content. Keep doing what you're doing man, thank you!

    Hi Charlie, I really love your videos. I was wondering if you could do a video on the aspects of power struggle in conversations. I think this ties in to the new topic you presented at the end, about handling conflicts with a boss, which would differ from how one would handle a conflict with a coworker. Or not. I think one trick is when dealing with anyone, whether it is a boss or a coworker, you don't want the power differential to be so big or obvious. Thanks.
