Philosopher Slavoj Zizek once made a joke that he was ready to sell his own mother into slavery for a sequel to this film. This is because many people flirt with the idea of popular revolution, but the more difficult conversation is how to re-structure society once this revolution has taken place. Unless you have a vision of what form this new society will take, you risk it falling to the same fate as the one which came before it.
It actually makes sense why Anonymous took this movie as reference, the narrative as some sort of analogy taking in mind the power of a 'user' in a modern society working perhaps alone or with others to archive something with resources which ain't privative but still controlled
I love how when Evey says, "He was Edmond Dantes," Finch just kind of looks at her like, "Oh, honey...you really are crazy." (I know that's probably not what that look meant, but it certainly could be interpreted that way!)
Anyone else read the Count of Monte Cristo and come here just for that one line, "He was Edmund Dantes". Art gives us permission to live a certain way by showing us what it looks like to live that. It puts words to our passions, confirms our desires, and shows us how to go about getting what we want. Gives me chills that line.
That line actually inspired me to reread it. I'd read an abridged version back in middle school. I bought an unabridged version off Barnes & Noble in all its 1000+ pages of glory. The parallels between the characters are clearly evident. The messages are quite different though.

What does that look like to you? How do you see it playing out? As an Anarchist myself, I'm curious how people think this will happen and the result. Its not what you think. It will be horrific. Don't wish for things you aren't prepared for. The free market, trading, free society, no rules. It's cute to think about, but the reality of it is most people will die. Most people can't fend for themselves. They will steal to get what they need. You will have to kill to keep what you have. Butterflies and rainbows, until shit hits the fan on high power and your caught in the middle of an actual power shift coming from all sides.

Strange how 15 years later the clips from this movie have been showing up in my feed an awful lot. Is the algorithm trying to tell me something about the world 🤔
What never ceases to amaze me about this movie is the film makers reversed just about every theme of original story for this movie, and still told an entertaining tale, that in its own way was as entertaining as the original work.
The Ayrton light (the green light that is lit when Parliament is in session) was lit up in this scene, meaning that parliament was talking before the palace went booming, which means they killed off a lot of people, bravo to V
Not one moment of the finale is anything but perfection. I remember when it was brand new, and some people mistook the dead characters showing up in the crowd as a goof. I can understand it might be too subtle for some, but c'mon. The symbolism of their appearances is just sublime. The victims are being honored. Their memories will remain. Their suffering won't be in vain, for they helped in their own way and will stand in time as examples. It's specially good, to put those last four people in the end: Dietrich, the little girl that was shot for painting a wall and sparked the riots. And last of all, Valerie and her girlfriend. I'm sure Valerie's letter was the primary inspiration, for V to go beyond personal revenge. To enact justice for everyone. To BECOME everyone.
It’s always bugged me that those people are standing way too close to parliament and Big Ben, they would have gotten blown up or crushed by falling debris…
My headcanon is that since they never removed V's mask they're not 100% sure that he's dead. Therefore he may still be barely alive and conscious while on the subway train of explosives. While aware that he is about to die he can at least do so with the satisfaction that his plans will certainly succeed and he will leave this mortal coil completing what Guy Fawkes set in motion so many years before.

No matter how many times I see this movie, the ending sends chills down my spine and I cry. Powerful scene with many lessons about our power as a people vs, the government.
Ideas may be bulletproof, but they die when no one is allowed to know they exist. Thanks, social media.
"They will remember him for what he did for the country. I remember the man and what he meant to me." man that made me teared.
Watching this yet again, on November 6th, 2024. A very Happy birthday to me.
This is such a powerful scene but I’ll never not laugh at the pure bass coming from the explosions.
Who found this after Trump got elected President the second time??
V for Vendetta, the Handmaids Tale, the Hunger Games: what do they all have in common? That fiction is just reality sprinkled with glitter
Not even that much glitter, tbh...
I watch this movie every year on November 5th. It speaks volumes about the world today. 1:27 , 1:46 , 2:18 , and 2:35 I love how the explosions go perfectly with the music.
This is such a spectacular & emotive scene for any Brit to watch. I know she got a lot of stick for this performance at the time, but I think Natalie Portman's performance was beautiful in this film!
i honestly think this is one of the most epic endings to a movie ever. love love love it. brings me to tears.
One of the best movie endings in the history of film making. I feel so privileged to have seen this in theaters.
the greatest scence in all of movie history, nothing can ever come close to achieving movie history like this
This is one of the best movies ever made. its message has sadly gone unheard. And that message is vastly relevant to todays events.
How could anyone thumb down such a fab film. I even brought a mask . Love it .
I almost cry when I see the scene. Such a powerful scene. Ideas never die.
That's how u end a terrific movie, one of my favorite endings to a movie. Great acting by Natalie, love her a lot, just an excellent actress. One of the best out there.
Still one of the best movie endings ever, I get goosebumps and tears in my eyes every time.
We need this today
Philosopher Slavoj Zizek once made a joke that he was ready to sell his own mother into slavery for a sequel to this film. This is because many people flirt with the idea of popular revolution, but the more difficult conversation is how to re-structure society once this revolution has taken place. Unless you have a vision of what form this new society will take, you risk it falling to the same fate as the one which came before it.
This scene gives me goosebumps every time.
I cry as soon as the little girl with glasses takes off her mask. Every time.
my speakers were proud to die for this amazing show
they went out with a bang!
Who was he?
He was Edmund Dantes. And he was my father. My mother. My lover. My friend. He was you. And me. And all of us.
He was Luigi.
I can't stop watching this, reminds me so much of what we have faced for the last 5 or so years. Inspiring.
Here on Guy Fawkes Day. Remember, remember, the 5th of November.
Well this movie seems a bit more relevant now in Britain….
Michael bay looks on in jealousy.
LOL! Ain't that a fact! 😀
I came here hoping this happens IRL nowadays. It's really needed more than ever.
That line actually inspired me to reread it. I'd read an abridged version back in middle school. I bought an unabridged version off Barnes & Noble in all its 1000+ pages of glory. The parallels between the characters are clearly evident. The messages are quite different though.
One of the greatest movie endings of all time. So powerful and moving.
It feels like this is what we need in America. We are leading to a totalitarian government. So many people have predicted this moment and I feel like it’s going to happen with the Statue Of Liberty. Quote me 01/05/23.
Did you hear in the very beginning the announcement on TV regarding America? I think this movie IS in reference to America!
And so... on 05/11/24 here we are...
This scene always gives me goosebumps
This movie doesn't get talked about much in the 2020s
Fun fact: this movie never made it to China.
And we all know why.
This is from the news media in China. I would translate for you, but I'll just let google take care of that. FYI, you can use translate.google.com to translate the entire webpage.

🤔 they need to replace john hurt with Winnie the Pooh.
Lie. I watched this one on China Central Television Channel.
@@xiajiayu3443 True, but it was actually banned in China, which is funny considering it can be applied to China more than any other country in modern history.
I don’t know if this was intentional but I find it slightly amusing how V dawns a Guy Fawks mask when Guy Fawks himself was a famous revolutionary who died before being able to strike a match stick
Wait...what?!? You don't know if it was intentional?!? I suppose you probably don't know why they specifically chose Guy Fawkes Day, I mean, the 5th of November, to blow up parliament either?!? I mean, I don't know how they could have possibly made the Guy Fawkes connection any more obvious, and intentional at every level, but sure. Well done for spotting it then, I suppose. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

Happy Guy Fawkes Day
When is that? I can't remember.
@@ThatIanShane I see you found your reason
Hah it’s 11:30PM. I haven’t missed it. I managed to watch this on November the 5th
I know we’re supposed to be sad for V, who died moments before, but I can’t help but smile and raise my fist in the air when the fireworks start and Parliament blows up while the 1812 Overture plays triumphantly in the background.
@@theaviationchannel122 This was supposed to be a satisfying scene.
@@theaviationchannel122 Yeah.
@@theaviationchannel122 to hate your own country & to hate your own countries Politicians, is actually pretty different.
For two years now, no fireworks anymore. Forbidden in the failed state of germany. Shame on this rotten population. No freedom for our people.
I still cry
This movie has never be so relevant as it is today. This is what the people are being pushed to and I can't wait to see it 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
What does that look like to you? How do you see it playing out? As an Anarchist myself, I'm curious how people think this will happen and the result. Its not what you think. It will be horrific. Don't wish for things you aren't prepared for. The free market, trading, free society, no rules. It's cute to think about, but the reality of it is most people will die. Most people can't fend for themselves. They will steal to get what they need. You will have to kill to keep what you have. Butterflies and rainbows, until shit hits the fan on high power and your caught in the middle of an actual power shift coming from all sides.
I'd actually like to know. Not being snarky.

This always gets a tear in my eye. V changed Evey forever.
By far my favorite movie ever. Chills
Now the big question:
Which House was in session at the time? The House of Commons, the House of Lords or both? 😉
V is my favorite. I just love him
Not one moment of the finale is anything but perfection.
2:04 is the cherry on top for this moment. This is such a great cinematic shot!
Let’s hope we remember the 5th of November 2024 fondly!
We need a V right now, the world needs a V.
Remember, V is all of us (I'm already thinking of making a complaint about a few things in my city)
@@sofiu-v3p as long as politicians hold diplomatic immunity IN THEIR OWN COUNTRIES you can complain to the goverment officials all you want.
They decide what is and isnt just.
The world will follow the antichrist, that is your V. The whole film is NWO and satanic.
-Great epic ending, a classic film.
This country needs more than a building right now- This is so iconic and important these hard times. For everybody!
This movie is a prophecy...watch and learn:>
Now more than ever, people need to realise the truth of these current events. I feel that there are to many people still asleep to what is going on, really going on right now.
Predicting the future is a tricky thing. For example, if you are correct, what will be the defining moment? Will it be when the public accepts the masks? or when the masks are finally removed? Perhaps when the populist firebrand 'blows up' the establishment and all the masks come off? Complicated Business 😎
Exploading in my ears, love it!
The only missing thing to yesterday's good news
Every shot from above gave me chills, this massive shadow just moving across the city.
"Tell me...do you like music, Mr Finch?"
I always get chills when Valerie and Ruth appear
