this is one of the rem songs that gets stuck in my head all the time, aside from the message, the music is good on its own, although i do like the message as well. when i first heard this song i couldnt understand some of what he was saying and i liked it anyways, because he is a good musician. his voice is unlike any other, so much raw emotion
agreed. Mills's bass on this song is amazing. listened to this on way home from work and loved it so much had to youtube it when I got home. Such an amazing band and always enjoy reading so many wonderful comments about here from people who are so connected and appreciative of all the great music REM has provided
@@ryanjsimpson agreed, but in this live version he seems to be a little shy :) I mean, I miss the high notes that he touches with the bass in the album version
There is one thing that makes r.e.m. the best band in the world: they've never made a bad album or song. Every song by r.e.m. has it's own quality! If you look at other rock bands like bon jovi, you know, personally i never liked his music, but i can see why others did, now he's just a jerk with good looks. r.e.m. has managed to uphold their reputation throughout their career, and thats *one of the things* that makes them special
@kayekattt I agree with you, however, what really makes this band is the great Mike Mills.....just listen to that bassline......love him, the band and this song to bits :)
i cant rember the if losing my relgion or radio free europe was the 1st rem song i heard, about, 2 3 years later was in a music shop alphabet search lets see heard these guys:) bought what i could afford, lifes rich paegant and murmur didnt like the dead letter one i purchased a few months later all casette and cool:)chronic town even had that cassette as well.(my brother was into graphic design back of the lada i was driving was r.e.m sticker window:) just thought id share lol
@remnrone I heard Mike Stipe interviewed about Shiny Happy People and he said it was a cartoonish song and a goof. But nothing they should be ashamed of. The same thing with Don't come back to Rockville, except that was a satric poke at country music.
@MrSabblade i stop upload videos for time being. in the past "oldtestleper" channel upload many videos from jools holland 1998 but now i do not see this channel :)
@Doleafol come to think of it, i'll give you right on one song: Shiny Happy People never was good, and i think the band have come to realise it over the years, with Mike Mills quoting in the TV program 'R.E.M.: Behind the Music:' "[Shiny Happy People] is not the kind of song you want to be remembered for"
@Doleafol i do not reckon Accelerate nor Around the Sun as bad albums. I do, however agree with you that Boy in the Well (if not necessarily High Speed Train) is not of their strongest songs, but it doesent mean they're downright bad; i'd rather listen to Boy in the Well to thousand times than be exposed to two and a half minute of Justin Bieber... wouldnt you?
One of my favourite REM songs, with strong heartfelt sentiment, a plea for a little empathy and humanity in our crass, cruel world.

When these guys are at their best they can't be topped
Great song; it hits home on the issue.
love R.E.M.!!! Hope they will get back together after a well deserved vacation. They know what they mean to music and they know we need them!!!
Brilliant😊
My God it’s his favourite TOO!!! I love these words

This song defines a good band from a mediocre band
