What a brilliant tutorial Dan! This is extremely useful for anyone wanting to install extra and/or different fans to their HP omen. Thank you for all that you do.
3 years later and your video is still helping people. My HP Omen 30L was crashing constantly during most games and couldn't even handle the Steam VR lobby screen from the Quest 2 Steam link app. Now after adding a bottom fan 120mm and swapping the stock 92mm back fan, it's running quiet and cool! Thanks!
I actually followed your video guide on installing extra fans. I have added two 120mm Chromax fans in the case, one intake at the bottom and one at the top as an exhaust, it has helped with the cooling. I am still using the stock prism cpu cooler. My current idle temp is now a steady 35 centigrade, dropped from the previous 45. Also my fans are set to quiet in the Omen command centre.
Dan you are a lifesaver. I’ve learned a lot about modifying from you because I also have an Omen PC (same model). Since watching you it has dropped almost 20 degrees and I will soon be using my PC as a walk in cooler to store meats and ice cream. Have a great holiday season and New Year sir!
Just want to share some info, if you like it, you can take it with you, if not leave it as is. I recently bought the Hp Omen 25L with 3070 in it. From idle to gaming, the temperature was never below 60 C. It can reach max 80 C when playing FPS games. *Max CPU speed. If you want actual normal temps. Try using the pc in Open case. See what temps you are getting. What I am trying to say is, a good case with good airflow will be very close to your open case temp. It doesn't really matter how many heatsinks or fans you add to that case from HP, it just doesn't have enough outlets (holes) to carry the volume of heat generated by the components. So what choices do you have? 1. Cheap and easy, use your pc open without the glass panel. 2. Buy a new case and transfer your components. 3. For sure get a new case and use a better cooling (aircool heatsink, or watercooled AIO/ system). What did I do? I went with another PC case and added a 280M AIO cooler. What are my temps now? 36 idle to 50 Max load. HP was my first prebuild and will be last, it is just not worth the money and time to solve issues that should never be there on the first place.
Thanks for the comment. I have pretty much experimented with just about all configurations for the Omen and made videos on case swapping / heatsink replacement / AIO install / fan additions / etc. I do agree that the case is a limiting factor with Omens. I disagree that lowering CPU temps is not possible with heatsinks or AIO's. I have ran a Noctua U9S air cooler and a Corsair H60 AIO, and CPU temps dramatically. Almost a 20c difference under an R23 benchmark, which is 100% CPU utilization. I also case swapped which dropped that temp about 5-10c lower than that. ( th-cam.com/play/PLx9LWJcz6lN5lMqNjh_4gKG9YW5tMKHwA.html ). All Omen videos I made are in there including the case swap, U9S, H60, etc ). Also, 80c under max load ( I'm not sure if you mean 100% CPU utilization or max game load ) is completely safe, well below the throttle limit for AMD and Intel CPU's. It is a bit warm for most peoples liking, including myself though. Case swapping is a GREAT idea though for different AIO setups / taller and bigger air coolers / fan configurations / airflow / etc. I highly recommend it as you have as well. This video was more for people that don't want to case swap but optimize their Omen a bit better.
Very informative video, cheers man. I should be doing my fans early Jan, but in the mean time the cool weather will keep the PC nice and chilly. Congrats on 1.7k btw 😁
A year later and I just found this video. Bought an OMEN 30L prebuilt for my friend and I wanted to swap out all the cooling so I went ahead and bought just about everything you recommended. The setup is a little bit different but overall, the parts fit great. Great video!
@@DavyMaybe it’s awesome! I’ve followed all of Dan’s videos by adding a top mount exhaust fan, upgrading the stock case exhaust fan and swapping out the cpu cooler all to noctua stuff
Only really need to change the PSU if you are installing a GPU that requires more power. I just uploaded a PSU install video if you’re interested, when the time comes.
You might now see this comment but I literally got a hp omen gaming desktop five days ago and this helped so much and also made me feel stupid but you got my sub as soon as I found out that I can take out that top ceiling and add a fan there so thank you so much😁😁👍
Thanks for the sub! I have an entire Omen playlist if you want to check it out, I’ve made over 30 videos on my 25L. Yeah, the Omen is interesting and took a lot of experimenting when I first got it in April or 2020.
@@DanKamYouKnow hi I’m back with a couple of questions of course, so I saw your video on installing fans which helped me out because I needed to make sure on how to do that and it was easy to understand and helped me out a ton but I got a new problem now, so recently(yesterday) I got cooler master fans and they have rgb but it was just a one fan and I don’t know how to use the rgb cause my motherboard has less spaces then the ones I have seen in your old videos and I can use some help on how to install the fans, the fan name is “Cooler Master Masterfan mf120 120mm halo white edition” and I got it off Amazon so any type of help with the rgb would be grateful
Unfortunately, powering RGB components with the Omen motherboard is a pain in the butt and just doesn’t work properly. And even if you figure out a workaround, most RGB software won’t work with Omen motherboards. That’s why I went with non-RGB fans
I appreciate your videos man, I installed a top mount fan and while my temperatures are now staying in the safe zone I'm going to be extra safe so I took your advice and ordered a fan to put at the bottom of the case. Thank you for making these videos.
Hey, just wanted to let you know that I installed those 2 120mm fans like you did, and took your advice to utilize dynamic fan curves, and, sure enough, the combination of those the new fans plus the fan speed curves dropped my temps by ~10C! Thanks for your help! Super happy with the set up. She purrs like a kitten.
Another great video. Have been using the 30L stock for a few days with a few fans and a U9S on the way. Been telling the wife, "babe there is nothing I can do, DanKam says..." May try to press my luck with that line on non-PC stuff and see how much mileage I can get from it. Thanks again.
LOL! The U9S will solve all temperature problems for you ( except GPU if that’s an issue for you ). The extra fans do help but the weakest point ( other than the case ) is the cooler, BY FAR. Thanks Rob!!
I got my new omen 25L today. Luckily for 2024 they gave a front fan with breathable mesh in front of it which Intakes from the front side vents, it also has a proper CPU cooler now similar to the one you have installed. I am going to install a bottom fan which will Intakes from the vented base and also a too exhaust fan. I will be using your Gorilla tape technique for the bottom fan and push those centre squares out for the top fan. Thanks for the tips. Good video 👍
I'm thinking about doing the same to mine. I'm already getting decent thermals in fortnite on high-epic settings at 60fps, around 60°c for CPU and 68° for gpu but would love to drop it even lower. How much of a difference did your additional fans make?
Thanks for videos. People need to ensure they have more inflow than outflow before they detab the top bracket, or else the rear fan will pull in air from top and send it right out the rear, cooling nothing.
If the top fan is exhaust that should not happen right? I am thinking of installing a Chromax to the top of my 30L case but I am a noob and this is my first ever pc and cpu and gpu runs at 80c-83c when playing flight sim.
Dude flight sim eats my 30l, I'm running a fresh air duct from outside, direct through the top. I'm in Alaska and temps are below freezing and still I'm running hot.
Thanks for all your Omen vids bud. Although I've loved tech since the early days of windows 95 computers I've never took the plunge with the world of gaming pc till now. You answered alot of questions!
I have some videos dedicated to the thermals I’m getting with this setup. But to recap: CPU: Idle: 40-45c In Game: 60-65c Rendering: 75-80c GPU: Idle: 30-40c In Game: 60-67c Stock - CPU: Idle: 55-60c In Game: 75-80c Rendering: 90-95c GPU: In Game: 75-80c The biggest change I saw was changing the CPU cooler and setting up a custom fan curve for my GPU in MSI Afterburner.
@@DanKamYouKnow Thanks! Yeah I just purchased the Omen 30L RTX 3080, and was going to switch out some of the fans for Noctua, and adding fans where you’ve specified. Then seeing how the Omen AIO performs during gaming and editing, have a few AIOs that I may switch in there if need be. I also was on the fence to just swap out the case for the Lian Li 011 Dynamic, and go from there. But didn’t want to spend too much more money if I didn’t have to.
The best mod you can do for your system ( the higher end 10700K’s / 3080 builds and higher ) is to swap out the case. Fans will have very little effect because the case just lacks airflow. If I had your system, I would swap out the case and opt for a 240 or 280mm AIO. Only AIO that fits in an Omen case is a 120mm and that’s just not enough for those super strong processors. Plus the 3080 gives off a lot of heat as well. I’ve seen those machines sit between 85-90c while gaming in stock form. Way too warm for my liking.
Yes. HP will require the PC in stock form before they consider warranting anything. I did just do a case swap for my channel though if your interested.
@Jesus Melendez oh wow! Ya replaced all fans and that helped a lot you should also get the ryzen cpu control app so you can change it that helped too and then the program to control your fan speed but I'm playing elden ring on 1440 and it stays at 60 now
Just got my 30L on Saturday, The omen is not running hot but I am still adding the top fan. Thanks for the video, hopefully I don't go with the upgrade upgrade upgrade mentality, haha, I know I will.
It’s hard not to fall into the “upgrade” mode, especially being a PC enthusiast. Constantly want to change and upgrade everything 😂. My Omen didn’t really run hot, but when I would render videos, it would. The fan additions and CPU cooler made a huge difference 👍🏻
@@DanKamYouKnow Great video.I bought an Omen 25L 3070 RTX with Ryzen 7 3700x/32GB DDR4 and 2TB Nmve pcIe storage. The Top mount bracket idea is a lifesaver.By instaling a 120 mm Corsair top fan and a Front 92 Noctua Fan my temperatures are around 32 idle and 62 while gaming with all setting at high. Thanks Dam your videos are like a bible to me when it comes to this computer.I need you to explain something to me.If my pc comes with a 550W PSU how can it runs perfectly with my CPU and GPU????????
Your system only probably draws about 400w of power. The 3700x is a 65w TDP and I think the 3070’s are about 220w ( I could be wrong ) so 550w is more than sufficient. HP would not ship a computer with an inadequate PSU. Thanks for your kind words!
Dude I just added a Noctua fan in the front right where you did and it dropped my ssd temps by 16c. So happy with the results, ssd is sitting at a steady 33c now. I should have done that so much sooner lol. Thanks again for making this video man it has helped alot.
@@DanKamYouKnow I have one more question, in the omen software is it safe to put the fan speed to turbo? besides it being a bit louder is there any downside to it? When I put it on turbo my temps dropped quite a bit and I'd like to keep it that way, I am going to be getting a new case with better airflow soon but in the mean time I'm doing everything I can to keep the temps down. Putting it on turbo has dropped my CPU temps to around 60, my gpu to 49 and my ssd to 30c and I'm really happy with those temps just wondering how much faster the fans will wear out if I keep it on turbo
The fans are pretty much designed to run at any speed throughout their RPM range, stunning them on turbo all the time is just fine, and I actually recommend it. 👍🏻
You’re welcome! I ordered mine from Costco and had mine in 2 days! 😳. I’ve heard of you order directly from HP, it could take several weeks depending upon your configuration
@@DanKamYouKnow hey man I was curious my gpu and cpu gets over 150/170 sometimes whenever I’m playing a game of let’s say fortnite is that good or bad? That’s in Fahrenheit but the celsius is around 60/70
Usually, PC temps are always listed in Celsius ( even though I’m from California ). 60-70c for the CPU and GPU are completely safe and I wouldn’t worry about those temps. If you are over 80c and getting close to 90c, then that’s a little too warm.
@@DanKamYouKnow okay so your telling me if the Fahrenheit is over 170 for the cpu and gpu I have nothing to worry about but if the celsius is over 90for both the cpu and gpu that’s a little to warm?
Thanks for this video! Just got my 25L for my sim racing setup, because building a pc at the moment is really expensive I had temp issues and the stock fans were too loud, now I got better fans and a new cpu cooler and it's a lot quieter and cooler
Do you use your top fan as an exhaust or an intake? I’m a new learner that just got an Omen 30L and I want to learn the best ways to modify to improve my temperatures. Thanks and great video!
For my setup, I found that the top works best as an exhaust fan. But it takes about 3 minutes to flip it around, and you could test with it as an intake as well. Welcome to the PC world! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Watch his other videos as well buddy. As a former noob the most important thing to look for as a gamer is at his video on the memory problem. Dang proprietary hp crap motherboard but yea good luck
@Emmy I have a 3060 omen as well with a ryzen 5 5600 ... i have no issues with my GPU at all it runs very cool honestly, the CPU however is a different story. I want to add water cooling but im nervous ill fuck up my computer so i think i will just be adding 1 or 2 more fans and hopefully that helps
Thank you for all your videos. They have been super helpful. Quick question - on 25L have you ever noticed the PSU fan intermittently kicks in even while scrolling a webpage or a small mouse movement. It makes an audible click sound every time it spins( sounds like a spinning drive head movement when it is loading up programs). The PC itself is quiet otherwise. Thanks again!!
You’re welcome and thanks for watching! Yes, the PSU fan is designed to come on and off and is unfortunately, completely normal operation and no way to get around it.
Thanks for the wiring info at the end, I feel a ton more comfortable trying to go at this. Edit: so parts ordered got the cooler the fans and the noctua thermal paste, think I can do just about all of it but thinking of taking the cpu cooler and paste to geek squad and have them do a set up like yours with the dual fans, do you think that they will do it correctly? I am very hesitant about trying to take the motherboard out and installing the cooler...
Hey, nice vid as always. Question, do you know how to/if it's even possible to take off the mesh on the bottom? I want to increase the air intake from the bottom
Very cool solution, it will save my pc! I will assemble it at my Omen 25L 😇 cause the temperatures and the speed of the actual set is horrible. Thank you very much for this!
Hey man ! I ve been watching your videos and I have to say thank you so much! I have bought a pre-build omen 25L with an AMD 5 3600 and my CPU temperature while streaming and playing league of legends or brawhalla ( really weak games ) increase up to 80 and sometimes 85 degrees Celcius ofc. I have even since opened the case for more air to pass through. I wanted to ask you if you considered getting water cooling such as the Kraken m22 water cooling which I bought and I found extremely difficult to mount since I have to take the motherboard out entirely and I am not even sure If I will be able to mount the radiator plus thefan since you the case is really small and not the best for extra parts. My questions for you would be, is 70 to 80 degree not as alarming as it seems ? And would you advise to follow your method and install multiple fans on the inside instead of a water cooling system ? Thanks a ton ! And wish you a great day Dan !
Hey Ahmad! A 120mm liquid cooler should fit within the chassis of the Omen with no issues, but you will have to remove the motherboard. I myself went with a Noctua air cooler which has yielded better results than 120mm AIO’s and doesn’t involve mounting a radiator. The fan additions/replacement will slightly help with temperatures and also fan noise ( if you replace the stock HP fans ). You could always try and set your maximum processor state to 99% and your minimum processor state to 5%. That made my temperatures plummet with almost zero performance loss. But tbh, 75-85c is a bit warm but those temperatures are considered safe. You could continue to game and everything would be fine. Cooler temps will make the components last even longer though.
Awesome video, been looking at a 30L with a 6600XT, but didn't want to purchase until I found a few ways to improve the thermals. Nice to see that plate can have those brackets punched out!!
Thanks! Omens run a bit warm ( but safe ), so some fan additions make a nice improvement. Even just removing that bracket by itself makes a change in temps 👍🏻
Have you ever experienced any coil whine issues? My 25L has a pretty mean coil whine issue with it while gaming. Though its harmless it can be pretty annoying. Im thinking maybe changing the PSU will remove the coil whine issue but idk.
I have heard several people complain about PSU noises and coil whine but the small amount of GPU coil whine doesn’t bother me at all. Most people hear a clicking type noise from the PSU that goes away with a better quality one.
Pretty much any power supply will work, I would just make sure the dimensions of the new PSU are the same but I think most are. I have not changed my PSU out so I’m not 100% sure but I have seen a wide variety of PSU’s put in.
Hello Dan, thanks for very informative vid. I was wondering if changing out parts (PSU, Fans, Etc) would void HP’s warranty, because I want to add a 120mm liquid cpu cooler and some other fans as well and still have the security of knowing that I have a warranty service. Also, I have the intel version of this pc so, will I still be able to do all of these upgrades? Appreciate it, keep up the great work!
Most of those items will void the warranty, yes. HP will only perform warranty work if the computer is in its stock form. So, if the PC was reverted back to stock before sending it to them for warranty work, they would perform the work needed. And thank you Spencer!!!
NP. With the warranty, you have to treat it as a “What HP doesn’t know won’t hurt them”. So if you revert it back to stock before you warranty convo / work with them, they won’t know about the mods.
I ordered 4 120mm fans, the splitter, and the control to make a similar set up on my Omen 25L. The total came out to more than the Noctua CPU cooler you're using. I am planning on using the Omen cooler for at least 4 months before upgrading the CPU cooler. I think having great airflow in the entire case is probably better than just adding the CPU cooler by itself. I'm going to run some tests to see the temps before/after adding the 120mm fans.
It’s actually the opposite. The CPU cooler is hands down the best modification you could make to the PC. You really only have room for a top and bottom mounted 120mm fan, so you really only need 2. You could maybe double sided tape a 120mm to the front. In my opinion, I’d do the CPU cooler, top 120, and bottom 120.
Just wanted to stop by and thank you for this in depth guide. I used it back in early 2021 when I got my first real PC - my HP Omen 25L which is almost identical to yours (RTX 3070 and Ryzen 5 3600) and I copied every fan placement you showed here, the only thing different is I'm still using the stock cooler with a small size Noctua fan on it. PC still runs great and a lot of it is thanks to you, its coming up on its 3rd birthday soon!
@DamKamYouKnow Hey man, I had a question. Do you think I would be able to plug in the bottom fan that you installed with the y split connector you linked in the description? thanks
I just got my 30L today and thought it was running too hot. but it came with an amd ryzen 7 5800x which apparently runs hot . i ran a short stress test at close to max cpu clock speed and it shot up to 90c instantly but once the fans kicked in it was sitting at 75c the next 30 mins no issue. Im going to let the omen run like it is for a while (factory stock), if i upgrade it in the future i'll get a whole new tower with better airflow to put the components in. Im very happy with this pre builts performance so far
Thermal throttle is 95c so you’re totally fine. The 5800x is actually one of Ryzen warmest running CPU’s too. Case swapping will lower temps quite a bit. Glad to hear you are enjoying it 👌🏻
Hey Dan, lovely tutorial as usual ! saw your surgery video and had a few question as I'm getting a 25L :P When you end up running 7 fans on this 25L, are the noise noticeable while just browsing youtube ? Have you noticed which of the 7 fans creates the loudest noise when you are maxing games? You mentioned you are swapping case due to bad airflow/thermals, wasn't the 7 fans enough to cool things down ? Thanks and stay safe !
Thanks! With higher quality fans, their noise level goes down drastically, so even with all the fans I have now, the fan noise level is not bad at all. The component that actually creates the most noise is my GPU fan. Actually, as of right now with everything I have done, my Omen runs fantastic and I’m a more or less doing these mods for expand ability and channel content. New case brings more options for fans and cooler, while a new motherboard brings all the BIOS adjustments.
Ended up getting the 30l instead. I know the video says 25l and 30l but the 120 mm noctuas fit just fine on the 30l as well ? Going to get the top and bottom and I guess get the y split cables in the description too.
@@DanKamYouKnow thanks , and lastly ... how many of the y split cables in the link you posted do I order ? Or is it not necessary for me to install these ? That’s the only part that confuses if I need them and how many. I’m only doing top fan , bottom fan , and cpu cooler install with the extra fan for push and pull like you did.
Hey Mr. Doge. So this video is still pretty up to date but the best setup for Omens is a top mount 120mm exhaust / bottom mount 120mm intake / replace the rear 92mm. That fan configuration works best. Then if you want to really dive in, replace the CPU cooler
Excellent video. If it helps anyone else save a return. Omen 30L can't fit Noctua 80mm fan and 120mm Noctua Chromax Fan at the bottom of the case. The stock front fan (led) is in the way. I returned the 80mm.
You're the only one who's done enough with these that I can think to ask, so here goes! I picked up an Omen 25L shell (case/mb/psu/cooler/HDD) and I'm in the process of rebuilding it. Unfortunately, it didn't have the top bracket that you've mounted the 120mm exhaust fan to. Do you have any idea where I might be able to get a replacement? I'd love to mount that extra fan or a 120mm AIO, but without that bracket, it's a lot more difficult. Thanks!
Honestly, your best bet is to either join our HP Omen Discord group in the description and see if anyone is willing to part with theirs ( we have a For Sale channel ) or contact HP and see if they can sell you one.
I am so glad I found you channel bro. I got my Omen 30L a week ago and it is my first desktop ever. I have a question, man: will the Cooler Master - Master Liquid ML240L AIO fit this case on the top? I wanna upgrade my cooling system but I am a total noob. Thanks brother! PS: It is a 240mm radiator overall size
Hey, Dan! Thank you so much for the videos! Question for you, and apologies if you answered this already: what would you suggest as the recommended (realistic) temperature for both GPU and CPU?
Hi Dan! I got some questions about both the fans and storage upgrading in my omen 25L I'll first begin with the fans questions 1- I will order 4 fans, top, bottom rear and front fan. Which one are the intake fans and which one are the exhaust fan. 2- I've heard that the bottom fan is better as an exhaust fan. (I've got my pc on my right next to the monitor) 3- should I change the stock cpu fan? non water cooling 4- I got a 500 ssd and I want to update it. I was thinking of buying an extra ssd. is there a slot for an extra NVMe SSD? or should I buy an HDD or a SATA SSD and which one is better and which one should I buy. Thank you for all these helpful videos.
Hey! For your fans, you’ll want your bottom fan as an intake because heat rises ( and the Omen badly needs intake fans ). Top and rear are exhaust and the front will be blowing toward the back of the system so technically an intake. Stock CPU fan is mediocre and a replacement might drop temps 1-2c, so not a huge change. Your best bet is to add an additional SATA SSD to your machine
Hiya Dan, thank you fo4 your videos they are awesome. I just purchased an HP Omen 25L with a gtx 2060 for a very good price, it’s for my son and I did think at the time that the fans looked like a weak spot. I have a couple of questions, why didn’t you go AiO for the cpu? Like the Corsair 120mm AiO? Also have you shown us how you are running the fan controller powering the bottom 2 fans and the front fan? How is that setup working? Does this mean you cannot control those fans and they are 100% all the time?
So, the Omens can only fit a 120mm AIO, or an air cooler under 140mm in height. My Noctua U9S has shown better results than any 120mm AIO out there, plus I honestly like the way my air cooler looks compared to a 120mm AIO ( 280 and 360 AIO’s look sweet though ). The fan controller is powered off the empty SATA power plug for the 2nd hard-drive ( so you wouldn’t be able to use a 3rd drive if you use a a fan controller. ). It can hook up to 3 fans and their is a manual turning knob to set the fan speed for connected fans.
Thanks. Depends on the system but usually exhaust it the best route. Some people have reported the intake works better. Really easy to switch the orientation and test out both.
Thanks for this , I bought 2x of the noctua 120mm , one for top and one for bottom, y splitted them into my omen 25L i7, 3060rtx ti, but to be honest I got same temps as before 😅while gaming in 2k I got like 80 degrees for gpu , 70 CPU , normal Gaming is like 60 for both
For maximum effect and to lower your GPU temps a bit, I would use the program MSI Afterburner, to make a custom GPU fan curve that’s a bit more aggressive than the stock one. Should be able to lower it down a couple Celsius. 70 for the CPU is perfect and no need to worry
Does this support a liquid cooling system? If so, what would you recommend? Also thank you for the awesome tutorial, very detailed and fully explained!
@DanKamYouKnow Excellent work on these tutorials. I bought a 25L with just the PSU and rear fan that I plan to add a motherboard, AMD Ryzen 7 3800X, 16 GB of RGB Ram, AMD Wraith Cooler, and a Powercolor RX6600 XT along with an EVGA 650W PSU upgrade due to the proprietary 4 pin CPU connector on the OEM Cooler Master unit. Upon buying this and finding out the hard way HP used a 4 pin CPU connector on the PSU was disappointing. I have other plans for it though as I have an old HP motherboard I can turn it into another budget PC that will work with it. What did you do with the Omen once you swapped everything into the new case? DId you reuse the Omen case and make another custom Omen 25L?
Thanks Mark!! Sounds like you got a project on your hands. Lots of proprietary items and limitations with the Omen unfortunately, but still can be made into great rig. I explain what I did in this video: th-cam.com/video/iHgLXKw3dSg/w-d-xo.html I basically swapped all Omen components ( for content purposes and tutorials ) into a different case and slowly started replacing those components as well. Once the time came, I had all the remaining Omen parts left over and I was able to reassemble! Now it stays connected to my living room TV and I use my main rig in my office for games / editing / etc 👍🏻
@@DanKamYouKnow sweet! Thank you for the link to the newer video. I'll definitely subscribe and check out more of your content as well. Take care. See you again soon.
The 40L can be purchase for about $1400 with the 10% discount coupon from the HP website. Should I buy the 40L noe or hold off to see if the price drops any lower on Black Friday? (I'm talking about the GT21-0385XT)
Looking at the specs, that’s a pretty good deal for what you are getting. Only cooling options is probably recommended ( if needed at all ) are setting a custom GPU fan curve with MSI Afterburner and possibly undervolting the CPU slightly.
Hey Dan, you helped me out in my last comment about fans but this time im coming to you with a different issue. I just got my Omen 25L with the RTX2060, just downloaded warzone and after a few minutes, an audible buzzing started occurring. Definitely load enough to hear. The buzzing continues until i enter a loading screen or a black screen when i tab out then quickly starts again. Would this be the GPU? coil whine? not having enough power? Omen comes with a 500W power supply. Would love your expert opinion on what you think it is, what i should do, and if it is much cause for concern. Thanks for all the great videos and help!
500w is definitely enough to power your system. It most likely is normal coil whine coming from the GPU. Have you taken off the side panel to try and pin-point exactly where it’s coming from? A buzzing though could be coming from a fan or something.
The one thing I regret on these Omens is there isn't an extra unused USB connector on the board. I got the Corsair LL120 and if the I want fan speed control with the Corsair app I have to be able to plug the USB controller that leads to the module. I can maybe kill a front end USB connector by unplugging (but I use both the front ones). I still need to get a 92 mm fan for that back one (it's next.)
@@DanKamYouKnow I have the white case which is supposed to have better airflow. I know the mainboard is fragile as all get out so if case swap the recommendation is toss the board. Limit of fan slots I could deal with (splitters). But the lack of unused USB controller and my case plug in for a second hard drive may drive me that direction.
Yeah, a new motherboard opens up a lot of doors to customization. A large amount of Omen users go down this path for the uncapped freedom of a normal motherboard.
So I have a 30l rtx 3080ti, right out of the box it runs hot just as a lot of people have suggested, but I found a way to drop my temps by 24-28 degrees fahrenheit by simply turning up the fans rpm speed via the graphics card settings. The turbo mode that the omen hub places the fan speed at is a joke it only has it running at 800-1100 rpms at any given time. However after manually adjusting the fan speed via the graphics card settings I was able to pump out 3500 rpm+ which took my pc from running at 87C to 62C. Now the stock fans do run loud but for over a 20C decrease I think I/you will live. In conclusion if you do not mind a little noise from your fans "which if you are a gamer you are using a headset anyways so yeah . . . what does it matter" and do not want to take extra time/energy/money pull up your "NVIDIA GeForce Experience setting>In-game overlay> select the big [DONE] icon>Performance>at the bottom FAN SPEED will be greyed out, select manual, turn the speed all the way up. Now listen to how loud your fans get, watch the RPM zoom up a couple of thousand, and watch those high numbers on your GPU start to slip away.
Adjusting the graphics card fan curve is a great way to lower your GPU temps, but it won't have any effect on your case fans ( rear 92mm, CPU cooler fan, and front 120mm ). I am a strong believer in using MSI Afterburner to adjust the GPU fan speeds to lower temps ( or through whatever graphics card settings you used ).
@@DanKamYouKnow Great point, you are completely correct! This is only too lower your GPU temps, as far as the CPU this method will have no affect. I am a gamer so I wouldn't be putting as much stress on the CPU as say an architect or engineer, so I didn't take that into consideration.
Hey Dan, thank you for your previous comment I’m not so sure which brush I can safely use when it comes to removing dust from my pc without electric static, is there any you use and if possible link it? Thank you once again.
Depends on how much you want to spend. I would highly recommend an electronic duster like this: amzn.to/3QGmNyy If you want something on the cheaper side, you could do something like this: amzn.to/3SSd36f
As the resident IT guy in the neighborhood, I'm asked for a lot of assistance from neighbors, which I give for free. In spite of my working at an enterprise level for the Navy, gaming and related hardware is NOT in my wheelhouse. I was recently asked by the mother of a 12 YO kid to help install a gifted KRAKEN Z53 RGB and I had to tell them that it wasn't compatible with his OMEN 25L and it should be returned, which disappointed the kid, given the wow factor with lights, displayed temps and all that. I told the mom that I needed to check for compatible solutions as a way to buy some time, and then I found you and your videos. They are a family of modest means, so I ask you this: What would be a decent cooling solution for this kid? Kraken 120 (lights), Corsair H60 and/or Noctua NH-U9S or some combination thereof? Thanks in advance. ~Doon
Hey Doon! Personally, the U9S is hands down the best option for Omens. I have done tutorials on the U9S and the H60 and after thorough testing, the U9S is the best cooler for the Omen case. With that installed, a bottom mount 120mm intake fan and top mount 120mm exhaust fan really do the machine wonders. The lack of USB headers on the Omen motherboards makes powering RGB difficult and most RGB software doesn’t even recognize devices plugged in. The Corsair H60 only requires SATA power which is why I decided to go with that one, because of all the requests I got for a tutorial on a liquid cooler, over the original air cooler video I did.
I have yet to see ANY HP Omen overheat because of the addition of a top fan. Yes, they do run warm out of the factory and a top fan won’t magically make the PC run a ton cooler but, do you care to explain a little bit?
@@DanKamYouKnow i followed the instruction the video you posted about how to install a 120mm in the 25l or 30l. so i did that just today and temps went from a normal 70-75 with stock components to a insane 85-90 with the top fan installed. not sure if it was pushing cpu heat onto the gpu or what but uhh i had to stop that real quick and it went back to normal. otherwise your vids are awesome and helpful but this time seems tricky for me. all the best Dan!!!
I would really be curious on how you hooked up the fan because there’s no way that a top mount fan, set as intake or exhaust could raise the CPU temperature 20 degrees. Did you pop out the squares of the top bracket? Did you see the fan as exhaust? How is it hooked up to the motherboard?
@@DanKamYouKnow I had it installed as an intake with the 4 panels removed plugged into the LCU FAN 4 pin. my buddy on discord said I should flip it to exhaust since I have one on the front panel for intake.
great video as always, quick question. Do you keep your fans on turbo all the time? I still have the stock fans and I'm scared that it will damage them. I'm planning on attaching a top fan later on and using the first video you made on it.
Yes, I actually always keep my fans on turbo and it will not hurt the computer n any way! Whenever you do upgrade the top fan, I would follow this tutorial because it is updated from my original one. I time stamped the install for the top fan so just follow that and you should be good.
@@DanKamYouKnow hey another quick question. On my omen 30L, there is no on-off switch on the power supply there is just the plug. How will I turn it off properly then? Was there an on/off switch on your 25L so you can properly turn it off? Thanks in advance
Going to purchase a 30L 3070/i7 10700KF build today at microcenter. Pretty excited and grateful I came across your TH-cam Dan. Hoping I can get by with stock for at least a little bit then down the line replace the case and cooling options. What do you think? Sidenote that desk is beautiful is it custom built or where did you get it from? Appreciate it boss
You should definitely be able to use it in its stock configuration! I used mine for a couple months with no issues. I would definitely remove the bracket at the top of the case to increase air flow. The desk is from IKEA! They are “Alex” drawers with a table top placed on top 😎
@@DanKamYouKnow Just got back and setting up now, will do! Thanks for the assistance. Looks like an IKEA trip will take place tomorrow, take it easy buddy
Hey man, these videos have been helping me since I recently got a 25L and I can only get 2 of these fans at the moment and I was wondering, which of the 2 fans you installed would you say are the most important for the best possible temps? Thanks for any help!
Thanks for pointing me here. I had ordered the Noctua NF-A12x15 PWM chromax.black.swap, Premium Quiet Slim Fan, 4-Pin (120x15mm, Black) from the previous video, and it's still not shipped from last week. I see the 25mm version is also tough to get, so doing some research. See any issues with running a Y split off of a Y split? LOL for power options?
I would not recommend daisy chaining y-split cables. Noctua stock has been really bad since Christmas time! Stock for the majority of Noctua products is super low!!
Got my 30L last month. Been slowly making upgrades from your videos. The PC cooler my be the next upgrade coming soon to my PC. I noticed the Y splitter link sends to you a Y 3pin / 4pin splitter. Did you mean to post that? I got that one, and the fan connected to the 3 pin spun crazy fast. I'm going to go with the Y 4pin / 4pin next purchase. Thanks for these vids!
Yes, one of the legs is supposed to use PWM and the other leg of the split just spins the fan at motherboard speed. What fan header are you using? Trying switching the legs in the cable
@@DanKamYouKnow Yes, I just switched the fan connectors on the Y. So the top case fan is the same as yours and back fan I still haven't changed. I had the back fan on the 3 pin, it went crazy fast (way to load, stock fan) so I just swapped the connectors and much better.
Hi Dan and thank you for great videos! I have 25L blasting in corner of my livingroom and my wife asked me why my pc sounds like jet engine. So here I am taking notes. 😁 I have ordered Nzxt Kraken m120 for cpu and Noctua NF-A9 PWM fan to replace backpanel fan. I am adding intake after I see results of those mods. My question why I'm here. Did you ever measured or do you know Omens noice level in its original state? My Kraken db is 25 and Noctuas 22,8 db. Those are low but I cant find any number where I can compare
Hey! I unfortunately do no own a DB meter to check their sound level about I would honestly say it’s very high, maybe around 45-55-db. The stock HP fans are VERY high RPM which can lead to a lot of noise. The Noctuas can push the same amount of air at a much lower RPM, resulting in the noise difference. Only problem is you’ll still probably hear your GPU fan(s) but it won’t be too bad.
Thanks for this! Very helpful. Looks like you're installing SP fans. Do you know off-hand if you're achieving a neutral pressure? I love the Omen 25L I just got, and want to add two more 120mm fans like you did. As of now, with the RTX 3060 ti, I never go above 80C CPU/GPU when gaming full-throttle, but I'd like the temps to be cooler.
With Omens, you are pretty much always going to have a bit of negative pressure ( more exhaust fans than intake ), which is kind of just how the design is for these tiny little cases. Adding 2 fans like I did should slighlty help with temps, but not a drastic amount. 80c for the CPU and GPU are good, but could come down a bit if you aren't happy with them. If you want a drastic change, change the CPU cooler and use and aggressive GPU fan curve in MSI Afterburner.
They do exist but they are a gimmick and not very beneficial. The maker of the GPU ( HP in this case ) makes the air cooler that is attached to the GPU PCB board. There are no replacement coolers for GPU’s, unless you water cool it, which would require a custom water cooling loop, which definitely is not possible in an Omen case. An aggressive fan curve like I was saying is your best bet, or swapping all the components into a new case, which will open you up to more fan options and good airflow.
Anywhere from 1c-7c I would guess. Different systems / components benefit differently from it. Still greatly increases airflow in a bad airflow case though.
Great video! I got a 30L 2 weeks ago and love it but It’s getting loud. My temperatures look normal but even playing not graphically demanding games, the fans are at 3000rpm and loud. Should I replace or add fans to help this out? And which ones?
Thanks!! Congrats on the 30L! The stock fans can definitely be loud and they don’t have the greatest airflow either. I would recommend replacing the rear 92mm fan and the 80mm CPU cooler fan, and the front mount 120mm fan, which will GREATLY reduce noise levels ( except for GPU fan ). You could always add a 120mm fan to the top bracket and a 120mm at the bottom as well. I love Noctua Chromax fans, they push a ton of air and are SUPER silent. I have all the link to the fans I recommend in the description. Let me know if you have any other questions 👍🏻
@DanKamYouKnow Another great video. It seems kind of simple but, from time to time questions come up in yt comments and on discord regarding how to determine fan airflow (exhaust or intake) and how different fan configurations work. Maybe another video where you explain it for 25L/30L and blow smoke through your computer to demonstrate?
Hi Dan. Great videos. Thank you! 25L has one exhaust fan. If adding one fan is it better to install it as an intake at the bottom or as additional exhaust at the top?
What a brilliant tutorial Dan! This is extremely useful for anyone wanting to install extra and/or different fans to their HP omen. Thank you for all that you do.
😎😎😎
Those are some great temps!! Glad I could help. Omens just need a little airflow in em

@@ersiefrost4699 I reply to 99% of my comments! Have a good day!
All your videos regarding Omen 25L helped make the call to buy one! Thank you

Very informative video, cheers man. I should be doing my fans early Jan, but in the mean time the cool weather will keep the PC nice and chilly. Congrats on 1.7k btw 😁

@@DanKamYouKnow Does swapping out to a new case void the warranty on the Omen through HP?
Yes. HP will require the PC in stock form before they consider warranting anything. I did just do a case swap for my channel though if your interested.

I had temp issues and the stock fans were too loud, now I got better fans and a new cpu cooler and it's a lot quieter and cooler
Nice dude!
This was super helpful. Definitely going to try this setup .
Only thing I would change is that front fan, doesn’t make much difference. Bottom and top are a must. As well as a different CPU cooler.
Same for me.
Super helpful, thanks!
Replying to old comments, haven't seen you around in awhile! Hope everything is good
Great tutorial. Keep up the great work brother. 👍
Thanks Miguel!
Hey, nice vid as always. Question, do you know how to/if it's even possible to take off the mesh on the bottom? I want to increase the air intake from the bottom
I do not believe it’s possible to remove the mesh bottom.
Very cool solution, it will save my pc! I will assemble it at my Omen 25L 😇 cause the temperatures and the speed of the actual set is horrible. Thank you very much for this!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@DanKamYouKnow do you have any recommendation on which power supplies to upgrade to and which ones would work with this case.
Pretty much any power supply will work, I would just make sure the dimensions of the new PSU are the same but I think most are. I have not changed my PSU out so I’m not 100% sure but I have seen a wide variety of PSU’s put in.
Well done! Thank you, sir! Appreciated and giving great help! Stay blessed!
Any info on the CPU cooler? i had purchased a Cooler Master Hyper 212 and my case is not deep enough. So that looks interesting lol
Couldn't remember if you commented on another post but the cooler is the Noctua U9S and it's FANTASTIC!
This is exactly the video guide I needed. Great job 👍
Thanks Stephen! Glad it was useful for you!
@@DanKamYouKnow Two new fans arriving tomorrow for top and bottom of the case 🙂
Nice! Let me know how it goes.
@@DanKamYouKnow thanks for the clarification!
NP. With the warranty, you have to treat it as a “What HP doesn’t know won’t hurt them”. So if you revert it back to stock before you warranty convo / work with them, they won’t know about the mods.
Love the video, super helpful and thanks for taking the time to put this together!!

Just picked up some fans from your links thanks for the vid!
Appreciate the support! Thank you
I ordered 4 120mm fans, the splitter, and the control to make a similar set up on my Omen 25L.
You sir, are a legend
Thanks my dude 👌🏻👍🏻😎🤝
Just wanted to stop by and thank you for this in depth guide. I used it back in early 2021 when I got my first real PC - my HP Omen 25L which is almost identical to yours (RTX 3070 and Ryzen 5 3600) and I copied every fan placement you showed here, the only thing different is I'm still using the stock cooler with a small size Noctua fan on it. PC still runs great and a lot of it is thanks to you, its coming up on its 3rd birthday soon!
Great to hear! You have been subbed to my channel for a long time, appreciate the support!
Awesome thank you! I plugged my top fan into the lc pump slot and it sounds like a damn jet engine. I’ll definitely pick up a fan splitter.
It will definitely help with noise! Glad I could help!
Where do you plug in the fan splitter on the motherboard?
I show it in the video towards the end. The rear and top fan are plugged into the SYS_fan header
Best omen 30L TH-camr guy
Thanks!
Great video, thank you! Will definitely upgrade and add a top fan, maybe upgrade the CPU fan also. :)
Fantastic video!
Thanks Darryn!
gonna try this! probably just the top and bottom for now but it should help. thanks
Honestly, adding a top and bottom fan is really all you need! Easy work, you got this
@DamKamYouKnow Hey man, I had a question.
Glad to hear you are enjoying it 👌🏻
will the top fan help with cpu heat? thanks in advance!
Yes, it will help get all the hot CPU air out of the case. It will definitely help.
yes!!thankyou

Hey Dan, lovely tutorial as usual ! saw your surgery video and had a few question as I'm getting a 25L :P
When you end up running 7 fans on this 25L, are the noise noticeable while just browsing youtube ?
30L works with this as well. Pretty much identical except the front fan bit.
There is a 3-pack that’s only $10 I’d recommend. Never know when you might need more
Hey Dan, very informative video.
I want to make sure, but is the top fan insertion up to date? I am contemplating wether to install one.
Hey Mr. Doge. So this video is still pretty up to date but the best setup for Omens is a top mount 120mm exhaust / bottom mount 120mm intake / replace the rear 92mm. That fan configuration works best. Then if you want to really dive in, replace the CPU cooler
Thank you very much
Excellent video. If it helps anyone else save a return. Omen 30L can't fit Noctua 80mm fan and 120mm Noctua Chromax Fan at the bottom of the case. The stock front fan (led) is in the way. I returned the 80mm.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

PS: It is a 240mm radiator overall size
Congrats on your new PC! Only 120mm AIO’s will fit in the Omen case.
@@DanKamYouKnow i appreciate the fast reply. Thanks brother!
No problem! I have had great success with my Noctua Chromax U9S air cooler in my Omen. Full tutorial on my channel as wel
Hey, Dan! Thank you so much for the videos! Question for you, and apologies if you answered this already: what would you suggest as the recommended (realistic) temperature for both GPU and CPU?
On a stock Omen while IN GAME: 60c - 83c for CPU and roughly the same for GPU. Those are completely normal temps and are considered safe.
Hi Dan!
I got some questions about both the fans and storage upgrading in my omen 25L
I'll first begin with the fans questions
1- I will order 4 fans, top, bottom rear and front fan. Which one are the intake fans and which one are the exhaust fan.
2- I've heard that the bottom fan is better as an exhaust fan. (I've got my pc on my right next to the monitor)
3- should I change the stock cpu fan? non water cooling
4- I got a 500 ssd and I want to update it.
Thank you very much
Hiya Dan, thank you fo4 your videos they are awesome.
@@DanKamYouKnow Hi Dan. Late response, but: What fan controller do you use??
amzn.to/3f391W4
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Very nice video. But I have 1 question. Is there any difference in performance or temp when top vent fan use as exhaust or intake?
Thanks Jonathan! Yes, Omen 25L and 30L cases can fit a 120mm AIO only. I did a tutorial on how to do so:
th-cam.com/video/sG9LLNnY3uY/w-d-xo.html
very cool.
i will pimp out my omen with an extra fan or 2..
is there no issue using splitter cables? taking 2 fans from 1 power source?
Hey Dan! Thank you for great video!
Is power of extra fans provided by PWM? and how many hubs or splitters do you use for fans?
A single fan header can power up to about 3 fans, and yes; all fans are 4 pin. I would recommend using 2 splitters but it depends on your setup
@@DanKamYouKnow ahh awsome. Thank you for answering and trying to make better omen!!
I explain what I did in this video:
th-cam.com/video/iHgLXKw3dSg/w-d-xo.html
I basically swapped all Omen components ( for content purposes and tutorials ) into a different case and slowly started replacing those components as well.

@@DanKamYouKnow i definitely will!
Hey Dan, Could you create a tutorial on how to optimize the cooling of the 40L?
I would love to but I haven’t gotten the chance to test a 40L yet. HP isn’t too interested in marketing the 40L so they haven’t sent out review units.
I honestly always recommend motherboard and case swapping. Too many restrictions with Omen motherboards and the cases lack airflow and space
Hey Dan, thank you for your previous comment

The Corsair H60 only requires SATA power which is why I decided to go with that one, because of all the requests I got for a tutorial on a liquid cooler, over the original air cooler video I did.
you should talk about how much installing a top panel 120mm fan causes major overheating issues.

You’ll want to shut it down through your desktop -> Windows button at the bottom left -> Power -> Shut down

Hey man, these videos have been helping me since I recently got a 25L and I can only get 2 of these fans at the moment and I was wondering, which of the 2 fans you installed would you say are the most important for the best possible temps? Thanks for any help!
Bottom 120mm and top 120mm are the most important. Don’t worry about the front or the extra bottom fan, they don’t do much.
@@DanKamYouKnow Thanks man, this will help alot!
Good tutorial, how did you install the front fan where the hdd slot is?
I used double sided tape and it attaches to the hard-drive cage. After months of testing, it really isn't that efficient.
@@DanKamYouKnow oh ok thanks, just wondering whether its worth buying another fan for the front
If you have an extra fan already, sure. I wouldn’t go buying one though. A top 120mm / bottom 120mm / rear 92mm is the best setup for an Omen.

@@DanKamYouKnow I was looking into a CPU cooler, but what about a GPU cooler? Does such a thing even exist? And thanks for the quick reply!
@@DanKamYouKnow I looked into them right after I ask, and you're probably right. I'm curious to see how the two new fans will do.
Anywhere from 1c-7c I would guess. Different systems / components benefit differently from it. Still greatly increases airflow in a bad airflow case though.
What size fan do you have attached with tape next to the hard drive bay? Very helpful video.
Thanks! It’s a 92mm
That is a good idea. I’ll have to look into this. I’d be curious for my own knowledge.
Awesome Idea. Maybe A Vapor Instead Of A Smoke. Less Particulates
Hi Dan. Great videos. Thank you! 25L has one exhaust fan. If adding one fan is it better to install it as an intake at the bottom or as additional exhaust at the top?
Bottom mount 120mm is the best option
@@DanKamYouKnow Thank you Dan! Very much appreciated.
