We visited a sloth sanctuary, butterfly house and reptile house in Costa Rica! Spending the day at Selvatura Park, we learned about the sloth rehabilitation program, saw thousands of butterflies in the butterfly house and met Costa Rica's most dangerous venomous snakes! We also spent the night at a Costa Rican home stay with a local family and our host gave us a tour of the land and her garden.

Oh, and the coati is a member of the racoon family, fun to see wild family groups in the rainforest, they hop up the nearest tree or bush if alarmed, each on on a different trunk or stalk 🙂

Growing your own coffee will depend on the altitude of your land. If it's too low down the plants won't be happy, so check it out before investing in plants. Great video. Love the sloths😍😍

I learned a phrase/poem in 4th grade back in ‘96’ from Reptile Rick that helps you tell the difference between the coral snake and scarlet snake, deadly or not deadly
“If red touches black you’re OK Jack, but if red touches yellow you’re a dead fellow.”
You can see the attraction with having them as pets, they are beautiful creatures.

Here in Cpsta Rica that animal is called a "pizote"... the red bird is a "lapa" you can see them more often close to the beach/in warmer weather... really nice places you visited!!!

Great place, so many so called sanctuaries are basically zoos, but that place looks like it is a genuine rehabilitation centre. The sloths are called 2-toed & 3-toed, we get them here in Peru as well, strong swimmers if they fall into rivers or want to cross. 2-toed are more difficult to see in the wild & you really got some nice closeup views. So many butterfly species in the rainforest, in the Tambopata rainforest area where I work with responsible travel here in Peru, we have over 1200 species recorded & new ones to identify. Excellent to become familiar with species that you may encounter at your land. Getting into the wet season now so there will be more frogs & the snakes that feed on them. Make sure too to be abke to recognise any dangers & have an emergency evac plan to a local clinic or hospital just in case. Dangerous encounters are rare, but best be cautious. Wish you the best of luck in your new home & looking forward to the next vid 😀
