    I think you are right that it would be good to have a cycle of fifths plugin which can rotate, that helps a lot highlighting practical and simple way anybody can use the cycle to move from one key to another and turn simple chord progressions into different ones which still works. While it s true that the circle is really useful and applicable at any level of musicianship, most people are just shown it and informed that it is important, but left with no clue about what can be done with it. Good video, thanks both.

    I use Chordgun regularly, Scale Finder on occasion and Snap to Let very occasionally. Might look at the Circle of Fifths thing and see if I can make use of it.

      Scale Finder and scale snapping take the scales from the .reascale file. They didn't mention that there are various reascale files available or you can make your own. John has a blog post about it reaper.blog/2012/03/how-to-use-reascales/

    This is great. I'm a fairly amateur musician. I do know some music theory, but everything is fairly manual for me. I couldn't tell you what chords or notes are in a particular scale - well, most scales - at least without a lot of thought.
    I actually had Chordbox already installed quite some time ago, but I remember going "how the heck can I insert notes from there? (vs auditioning)". Unusual for me, but I never bothered to find the answer to that, and just kinda forgot about Chordgun.
    Also, Lil chordbox is new to me.
    I've been using a website to take notes I entered to reverse-figure out what scale I'm working in, after I've started a track. LOL I had no idea there was such a feature built right into Reaper. Funny enough, I actually have a button in my mail toolbar to launch Scale Finder, so I must have known about it at some point to add that, but I've never used it once.

    Definitely helpful! I had seen one of your videos (can't remember who's) on the chord gun, but forgot about it. And it could really help find those jazzy chords that I don't always know (certainly not on a keyboard). The other tools can also help and I did'nt even know they were there. So thanks again guys!

    one thing I would like is if reaper put a chord box in the main page just like logic so when u play you instantly get the chord your playing and the name of it ,,,,it would be a convenient tool hope they embed this into reaper great video 😎

    17:53 you can also shift-click on the little arrows to insert the new inversion into the midi editor (when notes are selected)
    19:39 all of the actions listed at the 19:13 mark can be imported in the Midi Editor action list and assigned to the same shortcuts, in order to solve this focus issue
    great video thanks 👍

      Yeah totally but that's a bit of a design flaw because the user has to do all of that :) Not the creator's fault :)

    Loved this. Would really like a more in-depth look at the notation view. I think it's got a tonne of untapped potential. I use it quite a lot but it is a bit fiddly and I don't have time to pick up a notation software like musescore or dorico at the moment.

    • @IDDQDSound
      @IDDQDSound ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll add it my list of stuff to cover but I would say it really needs A LOT of improvements to be seriously usable :)

      @@IDDQDSound totally agree. I have hopes for musescore 4 but until then it’s pen and paper + Reaper notation view for me. I mainly use it just to sketch ideas so right now it’s fine. Out of curiosity what notation software do you use ?

    • @IDDQDSound
      @IDDQDSound ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a main action and you can only add midi editor actions to midi toolbars. Alternatively set it to a hotkey and make that hotkey global :)

    Thanks for the video, man! There's lots of stuff in here I'd like to try that I had no idea about. I have to ask - why use a midjourney image for the thumbnail?

    • @TheREAPERBlog
      @TheREAPERBlog  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use it when I'm stuck coming up with ideas for thumbnails, especially when its a sort of abstract concept. I tried also generating images of "classical music" and "music theory" and this was the best of those results. None of the script UIs are particularly interesting and I didn't want to use stock images of music notation or something. The image is either recognizable as Jacob Collier, OR making people curious and clicking. I think its working.
